  4. I was thinking Vital (I have it) had some similarities to Phase Plant (which I don't have, just impression based on demo vids). Never tried Serum either. Vital might be an up and coming new star!

  5. I’ve been diving into Phase Plant lately, but Vital looks pretty interesting, and free to boot.

  10. I can't remember if this has been posted before, but I just picked up this free synth called Vital. It seems very powerful, yet highly intuitive to use. People are comparing it to Serum (which I have not used) https://vital.audio/

  11. Love em. I used them a lot. Great deal. You will likely overuse them at first. The 20dB pad will increase headroom/make things more subtle if you plan on using one on every track. I suggest you turn the intensity until you barely see any green LED’s light up, volume compensate and A/B. A=Api N=Neve TWK="Tweaker VCA" 458A=Altec Pro Tools is my primary daw, so the inclusion of the ø button is also very welcome since there's no friggin' phase button on each channel.

  15. SOLVED! Ok I'm back after more than a month of trial and error. I wanted to update this post in case anyone in the future finds themselves where I was. Imagine my surprise when the dropout problem survived , stripping the system of video cards and all non relevant drives , then a clean re-install of Windows followed by days of re-installation of ILOK, and other security software as well as 650 GB of virtual instruments. The culprit was, what I thought were SSD drives ( Seagate Firecuda 2TB SSHD). I have since learned the difference between SSHD and SSD, even though both are billed as "Solid state" drives and ( in the case of the Firecuda) pretend speeds of 5 times that of traditional drives. These drives may start out at 125 mbs ( which is actually lower than my traditional HDD ) but they degenerate over time, such that 6 months after formatting they were read / writing at 70 mbs, ( which despite Seagate's claim is actually less than half the speed of traditional drives). As soon as I replaced these "hybrid" drives with real SSD drives the problem disappeared. This was probably a mistake not many of you would have made which is why it wasn't considered. Thanks for all your help , very happy to get out of computer tech and back to music after many months.

  16. Who doesn't enjoy a nice flat white in the morning? I know I do. It's about the only type of espresso coffee drink I can make on my machine. However this theme doesn't really have anything to do with coffee, except maybe if you look at the "select/focus/OLED" displays and say, yeah, I have a desire to lick the crema out of an espresso cup right about now... I've been chasing the goal of the perfect non-3D "light" theme for some time and this is my latest effort. I want a theme that is clear, un-distracting. If you don't like grey, this probably isn't the theme for you. FLAT_WHITE.ZIP Previews: Updated 2021.12: refreshed Folder Archive button

  18. Specifically the Plug-ins tabs. Having to right click and select from a list of categories is excess hassle. Even 3 years in to CbB, I still sometimes forget that I can't just drag a plug-in from Uncategorized to the folder where I want it.

  19. I have an opportunity to buy a second hand Epiphone Emperor ii Joe Pass in my local area and given that I've never had a full hollow archtop before am deciding whether to pounce. It's got a bit of a consistent backward arch in the neck, so all the strings buzz but I think that is just truss rod adjustment, The frets and the neck seem straight and in good order the electrics seem fine. In general, a little pitting of the gold hardware and couple of little dings but nothing that you can see without a magnifying glass. The aging of the hardware just adds to the vibe. It comes with an excellent condition archtop hard case. It also comes with all the usual thrills associated with buying a new guitar, more money will come my way, I will meet the partner of my dreams and all my wishes will immediately be fulfilled etc

  20. Missing drag and drop from the OS is often the result of running the DAW as administrator. Windows does not allow drag and drop into programs with elevated rights.

  23. Hey Mark, the new mix sounds great ! I can really hear what the bass is doing now which is pretty cool and I couldn't hear it clearly before and the kick is nice too. Good job with the remix, the song is great.

  24. I could be wrong, but I think different people have different preferences, workflows, etc. For me this includes personal efficiencies. One person might have great visual discrimination abilities that make it easy to spot a specific word or set of words in a field of 200-800 phrases. Another person might be overwhelmed by anything more than 20-50 items in a display. One person might have great manual dexterity with the scroll wheel but have difficulties moving a mouse around a large area. Another person might find moving a mouse around to find and click on specific target areas repeatedly physically enjoyable and emotionally satisfying. One person might work best with a plug-in browser that in all workspaces is in the same place and roughly the same size but not do well with huge multi-column lists that cover up the visual field. Someone else might find it personally efficient based on her or his dexterity, visual acuity, etc. to have multi-column lists open and close. I don't doubt that some of you have different personal efficiencies, preferences, workflows, etc. than mine, but feel it is going too far to claim that your personal efficiencies are universal.

  27. I'd make sure the neck can be straightened first. It's beautiful. BTW, if you play loud and near your amp, you might not like a full hollow body - feeeeeeedbaaaaaaack. Insights and incites by Notes

  34. I tried the Guru plugin for a few hours with my spot checking phones, dialed them in & it sounded pretty good. Better than SonarWorks which is the only other software I have as I don't really don't care to mix on cans. This isn't 'select a preset & you're transported into a million dollar studio' type software, you need to spend time with it & set it up..I am curious about the environments they have planned to release, cars, different speakers etc..hopefully some will be included in the demos.. The trial period should roughly a month so so I plan on casually using it from time to time.. I still find mixing on my mono cube more gratifying!

  35. I don't think I'd seen this one posted, but "Decent Sampler" is way better than decent. https://www.decentsamples.com/product/decent-sampler-plugin/ Most of the EXS24 free sample libraries on https://www.pianobook.co.uk/ have been converted to Decent Sampler format (suposidly about 100 of them though I've only tried about 20). There isn't a fantastic way to find specifilly Decent Sampler versions all in one view yet. However it is pretty easy to find them. Select the instrument catergory, then search for EXS24 and click on a library on the page on the right it will tell you if a Decent Sampler version is available:

  43. Sorry but have you used asio4all in the last few years? It actually good software now and works well for most on board sound cards. I used it for a over year on this very laptop I'm typing on. I had it set up at work to mess around with Home Studio and midi files. I would also play with larger projects that had audio as well.. And as a test I then hooked up my Scarlette 6i6 and had no issues using that and it's proper driver. You can also use WASAPI mode for on board audio without issue unless your overdubbing new audio tracks. You will need to adjust your timing offset.
