  6. Not all plugins are compatible with Plug-in Load Balancing. In general I leave it off unless a project is heavily loading the first core, and enabling load-balancing clearly helps. In projects where the load is already pretty well-distributed and I'm not having to greatly increase the ASIO buffer to get it to play cleanly, I've found it can actually be detrimental. I'm not able to repro your crash on closing multiple folders.

  7. After a long journey I have now finished the project. Its had enough of my time. Thanks to all that contributed to the process. Well after much thought, listening and revisions I decided to strip the song down. I thought it was too over crowded and needed more clarity. Could I have your opinions on this version. Its coming together now.. After this... I spotted a bass note that was too early!! Can you see it? 🙂 have to go back and do it again. Groove Test? Mix test with some automation. Changes now made.. trying to bring them together and get a mix balance. Vocal timings now fixed. Think I hear some vocal timing problems after the main guitar solo Trying to bring in everything and get clarity. Not an easy task!! Added vocals now. Would appreciate comments on backing vocals too the mix... should they be louder... also solo guitar is that loud enough?? Still need to automate guitars. Checking on vocal levels for Lead and BG Vocals Drums are added for a sense of timing. No tuning effects added at all... jus straight tracks from the studio. New backing track trying balance guitars with a few over all tonal corrections. Working on masking and other stuff... Still no automation added. Guitar tones are enhanced to see if they stick out and not levelled correctly This is the backing track.. Here is the second pass... trying to get clarity. No automation yet.. Struggling with the guitars.. so many layers. Also need a lot more eq to get rid of the masking. Ill keep adding the progressions here.. newest on top for those who are interested in the project. All feedback and tip good or bad recommended 🙂 This is a new Hobo Train track "I've Been Down" Ended up with 48 tracks and loads of guitars which is quite difficult to get the eq correct. There is no automation done yet and is a rough mix... would value thoughts. Would value feedback and comments on the song arrangement. There is load to do yet.. just cant get the clarity at the moment as my ears are shot. Its mixed LOUD!! As that's how I imagine it to be played. The first one is not so HOT! Thanks In advance Gary

  8. Hello , here's a new instrumental I'm finishing up. I rarely play mandolin or cello but enjoy playing both . Thought I'd do a no pressure instrumental in between vocal songs. Yairi acoustic , "A'"style mandolin and cello used. Kick was built from finger tapping a 15" speaker and percussion (some of it reversed) from tapping and slapping a guitar body. TTS brush kit and additional percussion used. I finally got to use the "whoo" in TTS in a couple of spots. All suggestions for improvement are welcomed . Thanks .. mark https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=14708495

  11. FTR, I gave it a laugh because I should have known better than to ask my fellow plugin and sample addicts to talk me down. Instead you have me checking out additional plugins! But thanks for the suggestions. I do think everything we're discussing sounds excellent to my ears, but especially Capitol Chambers. I thought Abbey Road Chambers would be the be all, end all for me, but I love CC even more.

  12. I remember that statement to about when Sonar is released new downloads of CbB would not be available. I don't worry anymore. I'm very thankful what Bandlab did to keep Cakewalk operational and will decide when Sonar is released if it fits my needs. If not priced within my budget so be it. Peace and Happy New Year!

  13. Clearly this is another excellent tune from Hobo Train. The intro guitar is the one that seems "muddy" to me. Where do you have that one high passed? Are the guitar tracks miced amps or are you running sims here? If these are miced tracks, I'd suggest rolling off some more bass on the amp at time of capture. As to "hot", I sent the tune into CbB and put iZotope's Tonal Balance and Insight on it. LUFS at -10.9; is 10 too hot for a country rocker? Not for my ears... I'll hold my "like" and 👍's for the final mix. t some thoughts on guitar "tone". I tend to play with way too much distortion (live especially). When recording, at least IMHO, its better to get the "tone" and then dial it back! When the mix gets "busy", all those amps at "11" tend to muddy up the mix; at least that's my experience... YMMV

  14. Ten years anniversary overhaul: Experience the sound of an authentic orthodox choir you definitely haven't heard before! Tropar adds what nearly all virtual choirs out there lack: a warm, soft, but still powerful sounding men choir section. With the remastered edition it is now encoded for Kontakt and features brand new polyphonic true legato. https://www.strezov-sampling.com/products/view/Tropar Remastered.html

  15. I got this several years ago for just a few dollars. Strezov sent me a free upgrade code for this remastered version. Very cool. Edit - looked it up, and it was only 9 Euro in 2019. Dealio!

  22. Personally, I think Linux as an operating system rocks. However, as a DAW platform (certainly on desktop), it has these two major issues: 1. Lack of audio driver support for professional interfaces 2. Lack of native Linux VST plugins (2) can be worked around by using a wrapper, but this increases CPU usage. I don't know Presonus's motives behind this move, but it may be to allow some of Studio One's features in a hardware product at some point (total speculation here!!). Korg already uses the Raspberry Pi as the basis for a lot of their hardware synths, so likewise, Presonus may be looking to re-use Studio One's technology in a linux-based hardware product at some point - maybe as part of their StudioLive series? Having the fully-fledged DAW out there in the wild being effectively tested by users may help to iron out issues before they commit to shipping it in a hardware form.

  26. Did anyone else try Ubuntu Studio when it first came out? Word on the street: it was intended to make things easier for creative types so they didn't have to be Linux Geeks. In my admittedly limited personal experience with Linux, having music apps bundled with Ubuntu was a good start, but it wasn't anywhere sufficient for me to try to give up my existing music-making tools (which included SONAR). It still would have required too much to teach myself what I already knew how to do. I see that Ubuntu Studio 23.10 was released in October. I note with interest that it includes OBS Studio version 29.1.3. If in addition to Cakewalk Next and Cakewalk Sonar, there were a Cakewalk Performer that (1) could exchange files with Next and Sonar, (2) would allow for multitrack recording of live streamed performances, and (3) would be geared towards live, realtime performance modalities, I could see that being useful to a number of different music creating communities.

  30. As John said, on the front page it will give you its opinion of whether your system is in good shape. If you want to see what's limiting your performance, the best place to look is the Drivers page. That will show you what driver(s) are chewing up system latency. That's how I spotted my bad NIC driver, I saw that NDIS.SYS was clobbering my system. NDIS.SYS is a driver for network operations, so I started looking into it.

  32. Interesting how you made the percussion. Im with you liking an instrumental in between vocal songs ! I enjoyed this and would describe it as smooth. Now and then when some string parts came in, they were not smooth and to me kinda stood out in the rest of the smoothness. If I was working on this I would probably lower them a tiny bit in volume and eq some of the very highs off. It does offer contrast which is valuable, just commenting with my reaction. Otherwise, smooth and relaxing and easy listening!

  34. You haven't "missed it" because no one ever gets specific with what to do with the results. After you run the program for a few minutes you can click on each of these tabs to see what it's telling you. Green doesn't necessarily mean it's time to move on. You can still use it to tweak processes to improve overall DPC latency spiking. Stats will give you the headlines. Processes will give you an idea of what's running in the background. Drivers will show you all the drivers and which are running the highest ISR, DPC counts and the highest executions in ms. It'll tell you the company that the driver belongs to, etc. CPU will tell you which CPU(s) is(are) getting hit the hardest with DPC latency and which driver is causing it. You can then search those drivers and processes online to see what exactly they do, etc, and if there is anything you can do to alleviate the problem. Maybe you can just shut off a process...maybe you can't. Maybe you can make sure that process doesn't run on the same core you're running audio on, etc. Maybe it helps you figure out what to change in the bios. Once you try a fix, you can run LatencyMon again and compare where you were to where you are now. You really can chase down problematic drivers and processes that are causing latency spikes. Just takes time.

  35. I belive so as you are buying one year of updates from whenever you register it, for the next 12 months. So you aren't buying an upgrade from a particular version, so the price is the same regardless.

  36. I think the developers have been clear that there will be plenty of time to use CbB while we decide if Sonar is worth using or moving on. It appears to be an extremely fair offer.

  41. Hauntingly beautiful. This is a Very Nice production ! As a cello player , and after hearing this , I just learned the impact of slightly "swelling" the notes and subduing some of the highs normally present in my tracks. I thought I got done mixing a new song using a cello this morning. Now I'm going back in .. Enjoyed it .. mark

  43. Hmm. I should be up for 4th seat at the throne ... yet here I am ... Back to the topic at hand, as long as your power source (home) is properly grounded, I don't see a need for an extra wire. That said, pop the ground wire off your turntable and let the buzzing begin. So I dunno. Maybe there's something funky with that piece of gear and it's required. Try it without it. What's the worst that could possibly happen? The magic smoke comes out? 🤷‍♂️
    1 point
  44. To the chassis itself? That is a bit odd since everything in the rack should have a 3-wire power input on it and designed to fault out that ground. The chassis itself should never see power except for things like you walking on the carpet or similar and shouldn't transmit to the circuitry either.

  49. Marcos Kholer has reduced the price of PolyPhase for a limited time, now only $9.99, (usually $14.99). https://apps.apple.com/us/app/polyphase/id1440617668 PolyPhase is a generative sequencer. Melodies on a Master Track are created on the fly & copied, with phase offsets, to Follower Tracks. This structure, along with the interplay of various probabilities, leads to interwoven melodies and rhythms.
