  2. Hey all, happy to introduce myself. I make workflow tools. Time-savers. I get that it's not everyone's cup of tea, but some folks have common tasks they find themselves doing repeatedly, and might want tools to speed them up. 🙂 For instance, you can certainly recreate what X-Fade is doing by drawing in your volume. You'd want to taper it some, to get more of an equal-power crossfade (so the volume doesn't dip midway through). X-Fade just automates it for you, so you can perform it on the fly in real time (and it'll direct the midi data to each channel as well as the volume data). You also have more fine-tuned control over details like the shape of the curve it generates.

  3. @Niky Serrano "Hi guys, Apologies for the confusion our system has caused. Full cards on the table, here's what's happening. Firstly, you must be logged in to see any further upgrade discount that you are entitled to. Otherwise the site will display the general £74.99 (exVAT) sale price, you'll be asked to log in for the checkout page anyway where you should see the correct price for you if upgrading. Please don't submit payment details if you've not seen the price you think you're entitled too. Some customers are logged in for their first visit, they see the discount, and are logged out for a second visit. This may explain the apparent increase in price. To be clear the site pricing structure has never changed and it'll run til 31st July. There's also a chance that browser caches are remembering the higher price if you've been logged out at any stage. Here's the complication: Our website cannot apply the discount if your upgrading licence is second hand or NFR. This is when you need to contact support (that's me) and I'll sort you out with the discount that Lamont Cranston referenced a few posts earlier. To further complicate the situation there are two upgrade prices, depending on which older or smaller versions of the series you have. So add these two situations together, it means users with an NFR M-tron Pro and full licence of M-Tron are seeing the wrong discount. In the end, I do really like personal customer interaction, so get in touch via Tech Support or the contact us form and I'll arrange the right upgrade price for you." -Graeme / GForce

  5. I just noticed the release of v7 of Captain Plugins Epic. The v7.0.0 installer was code signed on 27 June 2023. The update is free if you have v6, $39 if you're still on Captain Plugins v5. The VST versions load and run no problem, but I'm getting a blank GUI with the VST3 versions, so beware. I'll send a message to their support. To download the update, you'll need your original v6 email with the download link, or use the Download link in the web page footer. I did not have to reauthorize v7. Captain Plugins Epic EDIT: I am getting a blank VST3 GUI in Gig Performer. The VST version loads fine. In Studio One, the default only shows the VST3 version in the browser. The GUI opened OK, but I had to reauthorize it. Odd goings on. I think I'll clear the plugin list in Gig Performer and do a full rescan and see what happens. So my guess is that you'll have to reauthorize in Cakewalk. Can someone confirm?

  6. Thanks my friend. Good to learn about the high end roll off thing too. Since my DI is a super cheap passive one, I'm sure there's plenty of that going on. The good news however is that I'm a stellar musician. So no amount of sound degradation can mask my immense talent. 💪

  7. I counted at least 44 15" subs. Way more than the iPhone could handle, as you can hear in the dreadful audio. Then later on in the video you see them bringing in yet another box, as if they weren't sure they had the bass covered for a 10-mile radius.

  8. User 905133 Thanks. That worked. I was trying to print from the main menu. It works from the Staff View menu. I just printed my first sheet music of original composition. Now I've got a lot of work to edit it and make it sound better.

  13. That's a very cool message. I trust Graeme to straighten things out. I've had nothing but positive experiences with him in the 20 or so years I've been a customer -- even when I couldn't get the original M-Tron to work on my system. I suppose it's time for me to grab the upgrade.

  14. Since when is Brainworx selling through Plugin Boutique?? Through July 31st, BTW. That SPL DeEsser is something special. It uses phase cancellation instead of dynamic EQ and it a great alternate to traditional de-essers. I especially like it on cymbals and harsh guitars...

  18. Thanks for jumping in the thread! I think this is a super practical plugin, and has a great place in the toolbelt. I think it’s the micro time savers like this and making full use of keyboard shortcuts which result in creativity not being limited in the macro final product. While some automations can take time (long or short), it’s still time that can be saved, which all adds up down the road. And the fine tuning of the curve is a BIG plus. Keep it up!

  20. I borrowed it from today's "day 5" thread from @laglag I have a couple SL libraries and they are very good. The world Instruments is also the one that interests me the most. I will have to check @Simeon Amburgey's video out, but honestly with his talent, he makes everything sound fantastic. He needs to wear boxing gloves to show how it would sound if I played it.

  26. I don't think I have printed out music from SONAR/Cakewalk in 15-20, but I followed these instructions and they worked. CORRECTION: I looked at the instructions, but I think my hands just did what they always used to do. Sec. Let me retrace them and write them down. UPDATE: Ooops. I was typing down the exact steps, but when I went to look at your reply, I lost the text. 😞 I was only up to Step 5 or 6. I will re-do and post as I go. Open / Load Project (2 midi tracks + 1 instrument track). Select 2 midi tracks (Ctrl + mouse clicks). Choose Menu Bar > Views > Staff View (opens up in Multi-Dock). In Multi-Dock's Staff View, Choose Print > Print Preview. OPTIONAL: Press Configure; Change Rastral Size; Use Zoom In/Out (resizes display size); Choose Close. 5a Press Configure. 5b Change Rastral Size. 5c Click OK. 5d Use Zoom In /Zoom Out buttons to see the result of the Rastral Size change. 5e Choose Close. PRINT Path 1: Choose Print (the button next to Configure once you are in Print Preview / Configuration Change mode). Path 2: Press Close to exit Print Preview / Configuration Change mode. Choose Print (on the Multi-Dock's Staff View Tab/Menu Bar Select Print to PDF [I used Microsoft Print to PDF]. Save [I saved to Desktop]. **In order to have the preview display change to something close to the new rastral size, I had to close out of the print preview and then choose print again. The rastral size [layout] was correct in the PDF that was printed. But in order to see the approximate layout in the preview display, I had to close out of print preview and re do it. I will try this again to make sure I typed out the steps I used correctly. I think the first time I tried, the steps might have been different. SEC: I left out a step: Zoom out let me see the preview change the first time. Let me update the steps. SEC: I believe there are (at least) two paths to printing. Double checking that now. So, these steps (and variations) worked consistently on my PC. Hope they help. I have been trying different things, but so far in Step 2, Print Preview is not disabled no matter what I do. Maybe someone else has some ideas about what might cause it to be disabled. It shouldn't matter because Staff View has been around for so long, but I am using CbB Version 2022.11 (Build 021).

  28. Thank you for the feedback Wookiee. Here are the lyrics. As we get older, we tend to think more about these things! We hold it in our hand Salvation is attainable No need to beat a dead horse down All that we need is faith Hope and charity If you treat others well Lend them a timely helping hand In desperate times of need You hold it in your hand Don't listen to that shite You know I'm ultimately right Don't let them foil your plans Remember who is number one Keep your eyes on the prize The spoils are yours to take. The choice is yours to make free will's a bitch no matter how your path diverges Will you be on the rise as others burn You hold the answer in your hand No matter what life hands you Someone else has a heavier cross to bear You know it's true so ... Let kindness be your shining guiding light The darkness, will tempt us the choices are shaded and obscured by forces that are hard to fight The choice is up to you.

  40. I have a large budget for purchases if I need them. Most of it goes to hardware. But I think I probably buy less than most amateur / semi-pro peeps I see on forums, which is always funny to me. Although I've ran into a lot of amateur musicians, especially guitarists, who have better equipment than the pros I know. Most of my colleagues, and myself included, use subscriptions where possible. $1000 / year for instrument / plugin subscriptions would give you almost anything you need to do excellent work. That's about $100 a month. Composer Cloud, PA Annual plans, etc. are the smartest way to a) have fixed annual costs, no update costs and b) try out expensive software for long periods of time to see if you even use them. Same goes for bundles like Komplete. These are no brainers, especially on sale. You can tell someone doesn't run a business when they complain about fixed costs like subscriptions provide. Audio / music work doesn't have to be expensive. There are excellent, absolutely excellent free plugins and instruments. There are excellent subscription options. And routinely excellent sales across the industry. This applies to software and hardware. I tend to do 90% of my purchases during Black Friday sales, and follow sales (to see what something should actually cost) and releases over the year to create a large list of what I want. And then wait (usually). 20 years ago, software budgets could go well into $10s of thousands per year. A single string library could be $1000+, and rarely ever go on sale. For that same price, you could get 5 years of composer cloud today - and 5 years is about the lifetime of a competitive sample library. Libraries will either be discontinued, lose compatibility, or require paid upgrades in that time. Economic downturn or not, this is the THE cheapest time in history to get into music / audio production. There are way too many cheap paths to excellent quality stuff. Unless you pirate, then every year is the cheapest year I guess. Haha. But I think people really have to become more disciplined. There is no need to have 10 tape emulations. 14 reverbs and 8 LA-2A emulations. Imagine running any other business where you're constantly just buying more and more shit because it's on sale. Like a construction company that has 80 types of a hammers because of "flash sales". Haha. Excessive software also creates legacy / compatibility nightmares over time, and just adds tons of logistical headaches (i.e. total wastes of time) trying to keep track of it all, or doing new system installs or troubleshooting.

  41. In practice, the vast majority of people are just plugin owners. But they fall into FOMO by hoarding plugins because what if they need that specific plugin and they don't have it? And said time never comes because they might even forget they own said plugin or even have it installed. Not to say you shouldn't strive for better tools, but those are a dime in a dozen these days and there's very little, if any, innovation in plugins at the present moment.

  42. This is a pretty song. Great lead and background vocals. I enjoy hearing the melodic guitar and synth as a pad. I would like for the bass to be stronger and the plucked strings to have less volume.

  43. No worries, you've had a lot of advice here. Some good, some great - plus the odd thing I don't really agree with 😆. But I've made the journey from bedroom studio dabbler to writing for TV where it's expected that you mix and master your own tracks. These are a few things I've learned on that journey. 1. You can deliver decent mixes on any playback system if you get used to how it sounds 2. Get decent stands for your speakers - they will sound at their best this way 3. Proper room treatment helps a lot and needn't cost a fortune - You can mix without it it but it will take you longer 4. Plugins to even out the room sound like Sonarworks Sound ID are also a great help includindg the headphone version 5. Subs in a small room are a nightmare 6. If the arrangement sucks so will the mix 7. Being able to instantly switch between several different playback types is massively helpful i.e. Nearfields - Mono Auratone/Mixcube - Old Boombox / Computer Speakers 8. Taking a break is important to reset your ears every hour or so 9. A/B referencing against commercial mixes is the best free training and more easily accomplished with a dedicated plugin like Metric AB 10. It's easy to be tricked that something sounds better when it's louder 11. You don't need to tweak every single track in your mix - " Do no harm " is sometimes the best way 12. Topdown mixing is a good method to learn mix fast and effectively 13. L-C-R Panning is also a good technique that will make mixing simpler and faster and forces you into good arrangements 14. You can learn almost anything on Youtube 15. But the best way to learn is just do a lot of mixing i.e. My 600th TV mix recently was a lot better than my 1st from 6yrs ago

  46. Playing with fire, there. Not recommended. It's 32 bit, its manufacturer deprecated it long ago. It's a matter of time before it will simply stop working in Cakewalk, and other hosts as well. For free, you can have REMatrix or MConvolutionEZ. For pay, there's MConvolutionMB. Wait for it to come around at half price in MeldaProduction's weekly "Eternal Madness" sale. That shouldn't take more than a few months. If you're a first time buyer you can get it for under $10 by waiting for the signing up for their newsletter ($10 credit), waiting for the sale (50% off list price) and using a referral code (MELDA65032871) for another 20% off the list price. I guarantee that MConvolutionMB will give you more control over the various parameters than you could ever use. That's just how their stuff is. It's also said to be light on resource use for a convolution. Here's a shot with both a "device" view and some of the underlying parameters. I think it will address your "relatively few controls" issue:
