  2. I just want to say here that this is one of the things I love about this forum: despite the unhelpful troll-y nature of the OP, the discussion mutated into this helpful, long, thought-provoking thread that's now gone on for 6 months. It's like going to a wrestling match where one guy pins the other one and instead of going on and beating on each other, they start talking with about the difficulties of being pro wrestlers and reminiscing about how things were back in the day when they were getting started, how the rules have changed, etc. 😂

  7. What if Larry's like the dad who goes out for a pack of cigarettes and never comes back. What if he abandoned us and left us orphans? If so, considering the dad metaphor, should we: (A) be throwing a wild party or (B) realize that dad was fueling our GAS for more sample libraries and VSTs than we'll ever need and use this opportunity to reallocate our finances elsewhere Developers should be concerned and send out forces to find Larry ASAP.

  12. This plugin is awesome! Arguably, the easiest way to shape low end of your mixes. I've always been struggling getting it right, now it's a breeze.

  15. This might be an issue for all DAWs, not just Cakewalk! 😉 Not intending to be harsh here, and no offense intended, but there may really not be an easy way to distill a high tech recording studio into a "For Dummies" version. Years ago, in a real professional recording studio, you likely would have had to sweep floors and make coffee for several years before you could touch a knob or slider. So Cakewalk (a very good emulation of a real recording studio), and really any other leading DAW, will have a learning curve. This will require an investment of your time to understand the technology. Read the manual, watch some tutorials, and be patient. Those expecting instant gratification are sure to be frustrated. Those who stick with it will be rewarded. Yet @Noel Borthwickand team have managed to provide a very customizable UI that can be applied to your needs, once you learn what to show and hide.

  18. No, just going to need a new, main PC soon and was seeing if I could combine uses (as always!). I need to do some serious data crunching soon (a Windows program I'm writing that will data-mine a database I created) and I need to be able to have 4k output in both landscape and portrait modes. I think I'm just going to start with a DIY over-powered full tower with a lot of RAM and a temporary graphics card, then update later as GPU's become more available. Then, after a few (a lot of?) paychecks, think about creating a dedicated DAW with Jim Roseberry.

  26. Very nice song. Has a Doobie Brothers vibe to me. My nit pick is that the snare sound is too bright and stands out nearly to the point of distraction. A woodier snare might fit better. And then there is the actual drum patterns. A little too busy for my tastes for such a simple emotive song. Then again, I've been known to be wrong before.

  27. @Andres Medina Its a crash in our code where its doing something unexpected when loading a track template. I'll fix it for the new release. Thanks for sending this dump since it allows us to find and fix issues we would not know about otherwise. Although it happens when loading the Listento receiver the crash is not a plugin fault from what I can see.

  28. I think the Taylor Davis violin, CinePiano and the Solo Strings would be a nice addition to anyone's collection, regardless of what you already own -- they're standalone products and they're great. The Woodwinds Pro library doesn't have the bread-and-butter essentials found in the core library - flute, oboe, bassoon and clarinet - but does have a lot of really nice additional instruments that are good to add if you do the kind of music that needs them. I can see it being a worthwhile addition if you already have another basic woodwinds library. The Brass Pro library is really intended to accentuate the Brass Core library, and I suspect it would be much less useful on its own - it's got a few nice standalone patches (12 horns, and a couple of solo patches for Trombone, Horn and Trumpet), but is also has a lot of FX patches and muted patches etc that are intended as direct extensions of the ones in the Core library. They may be useful, but they'd be a lot more valuable if you have both libraries. CineBrass Core and Pro are two libraries that really should go together as a pair, and the Pro one on its own is very incomplete. The Descant Horns library is a nice addition to my library, but is kind of niche; the descant horn is a agile, lighter sounding French Horn variant that is great at playing high range notes, and very handy to have around, but not exactly a game changer. Nice to have, but not essential. So, there is definitely stuff here that would be useful to anyone, for sure, but if you don't have CineSamples Brass Core, then you're not getting full value for the package. There is also the matter of the CineSamples sound and vibe -- to my ears it's pretty specific to their products, and may not suit everyone. Their stuff is all recorded on the MGM scoring stage, and its got a similar sound across all their libraries, and it's kind of big and bold and a bit in your face. They do have lots of mic options, so that helps you tailor it to blend with other stuff, so it can be flexible. But it is something that should be noted. Hope that helps!

  31. Yes... but if your mono tracks with mono interleave are routed to a bus, that bus is stereo (unless you also changed the bus interleave). So the routing is from mono to stereo... and then the L/R from the bus output is merged/summed to mono again for the export.

  33. Yes, I know - if you're using the built-in Process->Apply Effect->Gain, make sure you "bounce to clip(s)" or "apply trimming " on each clip first. My video was an alternative that doesn't require you to do that.

  41. LOL someone is making assumptions I see. If only you were privy to the figures of what we've sold for AmpliTube 5 from release until now (well I report on it weekly so I know off the top of my head as of through last Thursday... and there are a lot of digits. To the left of the decimal.). I hope IK doesn't occupy so much real estate in your mind for a long time, that seems unhealthy. I probably shouldn't point out how successful a product is selling as it probably makes that plot of real estate grow even more, but unfortunately I must dispel such misinformation when I see it. If you need a mentor to also explain some of the marketing benefits of offers such as you see here with Thomann and IK, I suppose I could also spare some time but I'd also ask that you share exactly what issues you have with IK that cause an unhealthy obsession as a nice trade in kind.

  42. Who promised you that it would or should be user-friendly? No other DAW this feature-rich is user-friendly either. If someone installed an old rotary phone in your home, and told you you could use that to make phone calls -- or you could have a brand new iPhone 15 with a gazillion features, which would you choose? If you chose the iPhone, would you expect to know every available feature right out of the box? Or would you take the time to learn it? I'm guessing the latter.... So why would you have a different attitude about a complex piece of software?

  43. Essentially what you have here is the equivalent of walking into a fully kitted out recording studio. If you've never been in a studio before, how could you possibly expect to know how the patch bay worked, or how to set up the correct gain structures or any of those kind of things without learning how it works? And even if you are fairly well versed with a particular recording studio, walking into a different studio with different gear and set up puts you almost back at square one. Cakewalk is a professional program that gives professional results if you learn how it works first, which is why it can seem not user friendly - any complex thing like this must have the basics learned first. With that being said, I've helped a few people get started on this who have tried out other software packages in the past and after the initial getting to know how it all worked period, they all found things extremely easy compared to a lot of other apps. Like Millzy mentioned above, you can hide quite a lot of the more advanced stuff to concentrate on the things that matters to a novice user. By default, Cakewalk guides you to using the Basic workspace, which is far less busy and shows far less of the stuff that a seasoned user may need. If you're not set up to use the Basic workspace, you can learn about them HERE. But for obvious mandatory things like recording, opening and saving files, choosing instruments, etc, this is something that every DAW does more or less the same but also in their own way. You'll find a lot of fantastic tutorials, especially for new users, in the Tutorials section: https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/forum/35-tutorials/ THIS THREAD especially is a great place to start. I'd wager that after a couple of hours going through this stuff and trying things out yourself, a lot of the "what am I even looking at?" factor will just fall into place, and you'll be able to cruise along at your own pace for most things you'd want to do.
