  5. Larry, you are Screamin' FAST! As soon as I put it up, I checked the link, saw it was wrong and immediately changed it. Bang! It was literally "click, wrong link, change." I was in a BIG HURRY because my link was very stupid. I typed as fast as I ever have in my life. While I was doing that, you posted that it was the wrong link and then posted the right one. 🙂 Larry has fingers that type faster than the speed of light. There can be no doubt about that. I always knew you were the king, but now I have even more admiration. Larry is the Jordan Rudess of the VI bargain hunters. Hail to the king!

  7. VB3 has been my goto for years!!!! I had a problem once when Windows 10 had an update that trashed vb3. I contacted Guido who is the guy who developed it and he worked meticulously with me thru emails to fix the problem!! Great one on one support directly to the man who wrote the code. Can't beat that. Btw, Microsoft had to issue a patch fix after about 3 days that fixed VB3. I used NI B4 while VB3 was down. As soon as VB3 was fixed, I immediately replaced B4 with VB3!!! Nothing personal, NI!!😉

  9. Sounds great, looks like butt. I wish they'd give you two "skins": 1. The "original" modeled unit 2. The one that has decent sized GUI and looks good.

  10. We're on a very similar path and those 3 are on top of my list as well. I haven't looked into Revalver, but I believe SoundWise likes it a lot. So, this might be another one for my (growing) list. Oh yeah, also looking for talent and inspiration...

  11. Don't waste any time troubleshooting since Noel is already on top of it, but thank fro being wiling. And I must say I have a great debt of gratitude to you for pointing me to that obscure post over a year ago that fortunately you remembered. This gave me the clue to try turning on and off input echo. You've helped solve a year or so of frustration and troubleshooting, trying to get to the bottom on all 3 of these issues - the dropouts at 2:08, dropouts at 4:17 and the strange dropouts I'd get even when I left the computer for 5 min or more. So this is a big relief to get this behind me. Thanks for all the excellent help you give in this forum

  13. What you were seeing in previous versions was actually a side effect of a bug which has now been fixed in 2019.09. Notice that when you're clicking on the header using the smart tool, it's the Move tool that is engaged. The bug was that when you cancelled a move operation, your selection was lost. So previously, clicking on the clip header whilst using the Move tool had the same effect of cancelling the move and clearing the rest of your selection. Now this issue is fixed you can no longer use this side effect. EDIT: Found a way for these to coincide. It'll be fixed for the general release, so clicking on the clip header will clear the previous selection.

  15. It certainly does @Noel Borthwick. It could be my imagination, but projects seem to be loading much faster too rendering the pre-load unnecessary. The end result is that there is no glitching and zero waiting between songs. Projects with 40+ audio tracks, fx and midi control data are loading in 1 to 2 seconds! The first project in any list loads a little slower, but that has always been the case and is obviously not an issue. The discard changes works perfectly too. The playlist is back in action my friend! Drum replacer is also working like a charm. Thanks Noel - awesome job!

  18. Originally my "go to" Hammond was Native instruments B4. and then the B4II. But for some reason NI stopped making that plugin and replaced it with Vintage Organs, which doesn't sound nearly as good as B4. Then the GSi VB3 was my go to Hammond for a long time. Unfortunately something went wrong with VB3 v2. It doesn't sound as good as the original. I have several others, but for me my current go-to Hammond is GG Audio's Blue3. IMHO, it is the best sounding Hammond emulator. I also tried the brand new IK Multimedia Hammond B-3X. A lot of people really like it. But after doing extensive A/B comparisons with the Blue3, I find that the Blue3 has a superior sounding Leslie speaker sound, including a better sounding tube overdrive. Blue3 is about a $100 cheaper than the new B-3X, and it uses much less system resources than the B-3X, which I'm reading is a common complaint among users. Go for GG Audio's Blue3. For $100, you can't go wrong!

  19. Minor UI stuff, and possibly not introduced in this version: The top level Views menu has a tick mark and highlight for the Inspector regardless of its state. Also, the Control Bar looks identical when it is active.

  20. Thanks for the feedback! On the plus side, the individual samples (.wav files in the Samples folder) for this particular instrument aren't locked down, so they can be imported into another sampler for playback. Build your own percussion kit!

  24. There must be a very specific set of circumstances for this to happen. It could even be a corrupt cwp file. The CW folks could solve the mystery easily if you sent them the project (assuming the symptoms are reproducible). Like others, I freeze and un-freeze synths all the time, including Omnisphere (that synth in particular gets the freeze/thaw treatment often, because it can be such a resource hog). Over the years I've witnessed a number of weird things happening after an un-freeze, but attaching the wrong synth has not been among them. Could it be that you moved Omnisphere since the track was frozen? I did that once, after deciding to get Omnisphere off my SSD to recover disk space. The problem with this hypothesis is that you'd normally just get the missing-synth dialog. I have seen one strange phenomenon wherein the missing-plugin dialog did not come up and the wrong plugin was chosen instead. But that was a highly unusual situation, in which two plugins had the same CLSID. That doesn't seem likely in your case, but I'm just trying to remember any comparable symptoms I've seen in the past.

  25. Per-project audio folders are the way to go. It is the default and has been for some time. Don't even need to bundle, rar or zip projects for archiving. Just drag the project folder to the new location. The new location could be a local HD or elsewhere. The project folder should have at least one project file and the associated Audio folder. When projects are created using the default per-project audio structure, the project folders are portable and may be run from any local drive. Yes, re-pointing the Global Audio Folder may work for you. Usually the DAW asks where the audio is when it cannot find it during project open. One thing about using a non-default Global Audio Folder, upon starting the DAW if the the folder is unavailable, the program silently switches to the default and updates preferences. This can be a real PITA when using external drives. I always use a different internal drive for current projects and create a directory junction pointing C:\Cakewalk Projects\Audio Data to the actual physical location and leave preferences alone.

  26. Not a new band, just new to me. I got tipped off to this guy by Rick Beato in a video about odd time signatures. It's become my new favorite falling-to-sleep album.

  28. Which is a shame as Sonic Implants and Sonivox were some of the first samples (albeit SoundFonts) that I used in my early projects. The drums, and concert strings were so very nice (especially the Con Sodinos which are missing from the String library in the bundle). I picked the bundle up a few weeks ago just to sort of preserve some of these wonderful sounds. The Cinematic percussion and brass are also very nice.

  30. @jono grant I tried your project file and the automation does move when the edit filter is set to clips and lanes are collapsed. Are you sure that you have your track options "Select Track Envelopes with Clips" checked? See attached picture. If that is not enabled then it will not move envelopes when you drag clips. Can you verify this please? This should not have anything to do with Win 8 BTW.

  34. Hello Ray, I am no genius in this area but I have been doing this for the past 3 years. I’m working with a instrumental songwriting partner that gives me a basic structure of a song with a bit of melody and chord changes. Unfortunately, the keyboard sounds are less than appealing. At first, I worked with his terrible drum sounds but I eventually had him just sent me a basic drum track so I could sync it more accurately. I do what you do. I lay out the basic intro, verse, chorus, and bridge sections. This is the basic housekeeping duties that really hasn’t changed except the I find Melodyne is much better at tracking tempo changes. At this point I start working with what I was given. I have a music composing and arranging background so I can’t resist slicing and dicing the bits and pieces and once this is accomplished I then add instruments. i don’t know if any of this helps you but your story is very similar to how my journey started with my songwriting partner. We have now completed over 40 songs. We live several hours apart and my partner does not use Cakewalk, nor any other daw. He uses something like a 20 year old Tascam Portastudio. We use Dropbox to up load tracks to one another. None of this is perfect but as you will find out it can be very rewarding.

  36. Grem, you get a serial which can be used to activate the plugin on 3 different computers (if you need more just send me a message). All the installation and activation informations are included whithin the downloadable files. Riffer is something different from Cthulu (which is also a great plugin), you will love it.

  39. I totally agree with this. I know simple instrument tracks save some space but I myself have had weird issues every time I tried to use one so I stay with keeping my tracks as Audio/ VST and Midi. Also agree with Pentagon is sort of boring. But it will work fine for you as a VST and just use a midi track.

  41. The optional dll was for Quicktime video support in the DAW. Other than that, nothing shipped with SONAR that used it. Of course, it was 32bit only because Apple never ported the Windows dll to 64bit. Don't recall when it was discontinued in SONAR. My guess is X1. I moved to 64bit with X1 so I cannot say for sure when they stopped including the dll.

  43. There is a folder C:\Program Files\Applied Acoustics Systems\Ultra Analog VA-3\Bitmaps that contains PNG files of the various elements of the Ultra Analog VA-3 GUI. You can edit them with a standard image editor that can edit PNG files with alpha. One thing to make sure when saving the images is that you save with the alpha channel (transparency channel). If you don't do this, you will get white rectangular place holders behind the image elements and it will look horrible. Those who have edited a Cakewalk by Bandlab theme with the theme editor will know what I mean here as you have to do the same with that as well. Of course, it goes with out saying that if you attempt this, do make a back up of the original bitmap folder. Also, if you make your own colour scheme, back that up as well. This is because, if Applied Acoustics Systems ever release an update for Ultra Analog VA-3, this bitmap folder will be over written and will revert to the original. Simply copy the contents of the backup folder to get your colour scheme back (With Ultra Analog VA-3 not running of course)

  44. Laptops in general can be more of a risk than desktops. They are more likely to contain non-standard parts, or to use solder instead of sockets, so do it yourself repairs may not be practical (or even possible). Touch sensitive screens are another area subject to wear. Often even the manufacturers will just toss them if they are returned for failure under warranty. Return and warranty with a refund option are a bit more important, and I would be very reluctant to pick one up at a flea market.
