  2. Holy bad advice, batman. Win10 x64 Pro licenses that are sold for $20... are not usually legit. Legit OEM copies typically sell for $150. A High-School "gamer" doesn't know the first thing about building/configuring a DAW. Let's say you have a 10900k based machine... and you're running a Thunderbolt audio interface. Tell me which BIOS parameters need to be tweaked (and to what settings) for audio to play clean? Do those same settings apply to a 12th gen 12900k? I can buy guitar parts and assemble a guitar for much less than a US PRS or Suhr. At the end of that assembly, the guitar will function. Will it play like a PRS or Suhr? No way. Does that make PRS or Suhr grossly overpriced? Only if you don't value the quality and attention to detail.

  3. Just leave him alone. He'll be back when he's ready. Larry looked for all these deals cause he really couldn't afford (at the time) all the plugins he wanted to try. So he would find deals, buy em, try em, and if he liked em he kept em. If he didn't like em, he sold em. And he would pass his knowledge to the forum. His situation has changed. Just let him be. He may be taking a well deserved break.

  4. Us humans are such strange animals! We are more affected by people that disagree with us, than those that appreciate us, when it should be the reverse. But we can't change a couple thousand years of evolution unfortunately! 😒 We miss you Lars!

  5. When you don't care at all, to be grammatically correct, you should say "I couldn't care less". What you said is "you could care less" which actually means you are still at some level of caring. Where's @SteveStrummerUK when we need him?

  6. Ah ha! There's a little banner up on the picture that says "Click to see your upgrade price", THEN the code will work in your Shopping Cart. Now to decide if I need another tape delay and if I want to give them my Credit Card... 🤔

  7. Hint for anybody who'd like to reach him: Look at the signature in any of his old posts. I did contact him that way. From his reply, I got the impression he really felt the need to take a break Let's give him time, continue to show appreciation every now and then, let him know we're not forgetting him, and hopefully soon he'll feel the itch to come back.

  8. Is this the end of Larry? I don't know... But seriously... Larry wherever you are - I hope that you're happy, healthy and living large! No further comments or posts from me on this subject..

  9. No one really ran him off. Some posters were being rude and making unfounded and insulting accusations or just strongly disagreeing with him around the same time. I think because he invests so much time and effort here that he took it very hard and I think he just got burnt out. Hopefully, after a vacation, he'll be back. He has to realize that the vast majority of us greatly appreciate him and value how much he means to this community. If that wasn't already obvious when Larry was actively posting here, it sure is clear now. Even if he comes back just to comment in posts, I'd really like to see him back. He's a giant part of this place for me and, I'm quite sure, most of the regulars. It's just not the same without him. Also, IBTL.

  10. I miss the guy. He will be back... eventually. But that being said, I was just thinking about how I appreciate everyone who has been posting deals so we can continue to spend in his absence. I love you all! ❤️

  15. The haters apparently just made that sh*t up!!! 😢 And I'm rather impartial as well. I have been building my own systems for 20+ years, as a hobby. But I have to say that for as long as Jim has been posting computer technical advice here, and on the legacy Cakewalk/Twelve Tones Inc. forums over the years, I have always listened. And learned a few things. Strong credibility that one has!

  16. Are we looking at the same web site? That studio pro has a base price of $2319 and adding an audio drive + sample drive makes it $2800. Where is the $2-3k mark up? I took a quick look at Dell and couldn't customize exactly, but it would be close to $2500. The mark up over Dell may be $3-400. That seems reasonable to me. I haven't bought from Jim so I'm fairly objective.

  17. Can't agree more with the comments (save Mr. Ewing). You are not just paying for parts but time, knowledge, and service. Jim is the whole package and is not only willing, but absolutely does go above and beyond the extra mile! Business? Yes, but also a man of integrity, character, and patience. Case in point was the most recent purchase for a church in rural Kansas with an unhappy pastor. Jim shows up after online troubleshooting a few days later (drove himself) with parts in hand to rebuild if necessary. Turns out, the youth pastor had prematurely updated the projection software with the latest and greatest which was what was causing the problems. Jim politely, professionally, and without complaint set things right with the world, the computer, and the staff. Love you man, and you really don't need to bother explaining yourself. Thanks for all you do, wish I could afford to buy personally again! Not that I need it, you're build is still going strong.

  19. Honestly this is my most used PA "effect" plugin. Not sure your workflow, but if you like channel strips as part of it, this is the most feature rich and usable one I've found. Sure I augment it with other eqs/comps/etc sometimes. But it is low on CPU usage and the more stuff you can accomplish in it, frees up resources for adding other things. I always say each of the other strips feel more compromised in some way. From unusable compressors, to questionable EQs, terrible layouts, etc. It can't do everything - but the knobs / workflow is among the best on the market, and the sound quality is quite good. One of the only plugins I don't regret paying a little bit more for.

  21. Wow, Tom and Mark, that is an excellent endorsement for Jim's products. Buy the best and just forget about it for the next dozen (or more) years. And when it's time to retire it, you have a silent case and power supply to give to someone building a quiet gaming rig. I managed to get my latest build, Narsil (the sword reforged) down to about 32dB with the iPhone dB meter next to the case. The fan from the refrigerator in the next room is louder. But I can still hear the power supply fan. I'm already wondering if I could get it quieter by swapping in a $10 Be Quiet or Noctua. That kind of fiddly-tinkery stuff is something that I enjoy, but it's something you haven't had to think twice about in a dozen years. A DAW system that remains viable across 3 presidential terms is pretty danged tasty. IMO, it's also a testament to the Cakewalk dev team, who have made the SONAR/CbB code more efficient in the past 4 years. The first release of CbB was kind of a slug on the i7-3770 I had at the time, but it runs great on that same system now. See how many times "various audio engine optimizations" and "UI drawing" appears in the release notes.

  22. OK, installed it on my Win10 PC, and it works great! Big fun! Today's free games are Star Wars Pinball: Masters of the Force, and Williams Pinball: The Getaway High Speed II. They seem to rotate them daily, hoping you will buy some tables. Just an FYI, the disk space required is nearly 16GB. I was wondering why the download took so long. Assume you get it all, then they just unlock content as needed.

  28. Not necessarily a deal, but I wanted to give @Jim Roseberry some kudos for my new DAW. We recently had two threads regarding new DAWs - @Larry Shelby thread on building his own new DAW: And @Starship Krupa excellent thread about repurposing parts for a new build: My last DAW was self built around 7 years ago, and it was time for a new one. I'm a career "IT Guy," and although I spend most of my time these days in meetings and on airplanes, I've tried to stay technical enough to do everything for myself. I've built countless computers over the last 25 years or so, so I generally know my way around computers. I built a new water cooled gaming computer last year, and I came to the realization that I really just don't enjoy it anymore. Quite honestly, it was a pain in the rear, and I pretty much hated the process. It had always been a matter of pride for me to build my own computers, but I decided my next one would be purchased. I started researching DAW builds around a year ago, but really couldn't find exactly what I wanted. I'm generally picky about things, and needed some flexibility that most manufacturers couldn't provide. Around 6 months ago, I contacted Jim and started talking to him about what I needed (and, sometimes more importantly, what I didn't.). Jim was extremely friendly, gracious with his time, and certainly understood my requirements. We emailed back and forth for several months (he probably wondered if I would ever hit that "purchase" button), and ordered a rack based DAW several weeks ago. I received it about two weeks ago, and started getting it all set up. Jim has continually been a great help to me, and I couldn't be happier with my choice. So, if any of you need a new DAW and don't want to build your own, check out https://www.studiocat.com/

  30. If I remember correctly, "unplugging" the device on which Cakewalk was stuck have enabled me to choose different one. That was with one of virtual interfaces inside virtual machine, but I think that should work with real device on real computer as well. Probably disabling the interface in Windows also helps. PS. things with names sounding like "extreme professional" are normally not professional 😏

  34. That's a very disrespectful thing to say about someone who has been a very helpful long-time forum member here, and has been building custom DAWs for music professionals for decades. You get what you pay for. Jim has actual real advice and support to offer DAW users based on many, many years of real experience. Not all musicians have the time or inclination to build their own. Did you happen to miss the testimonials from the other users in this thread, or just wake up grumpy today?
