  9. FWIW, here's an alternative approach. I almost always record guitar primarily in mono (one mic or direct). I started doing this years ago, when recording the late classical guitarist Linda Cohen, because: Setup is easier - find the sweet spot, and start recording. I usually position the mic about 6 to 12 inches directly in front of the 14th fret, angled in slightly so it points toward the fingerboard between the body’s edge and the sound hole. Zero phase issues. Only one mic preamp contributes hiss. Much easier comping. More repeatable setups if a session is interrupted (make sure you take a picture of the mic's position). I use taped "marks" on the floor for the chair and the mic stand, like the marks actors use on stage in theaters. I then use EQ to create a stereo image. This can involve any of several different techniques, depending on the program material. The reason I said "primarily" in mono is that I may also use a direct out if it's available, or stereo room mics to fill in the space. If quality stereo room mics aren't available, I'll use electronic ambiance processors. When going direct, though, you have to "nudge" the audio slightly behind to line up with the miked audio. I use EQ-based stereo imaging only when doing guitars that need to sound "solo." If it's a situation where the guitar needs to sound doubled, I do delay-based stereo, but using techniques that allow collapsing it to mono without artifacts. I'm certainly not saying this is the way to record acoustic guitar! But sometimes it's the best option for particular circumstances.

  10. Obviously, I don't know you, Brian, but you're in the deals forum -- and even more you posted about this deal in the deals forum, so can you hold out until Jan 4? My guess would be no. If we had self control we wouldn't be at this forum so often!

  14. Yes, but like Brian and Fleer mentioned, they're given away free even without purchase regularly, so most people have at least one licence! If it was the Standard version, instead of Elements, it might be useful. The plugin itself is ok, it's just not going to do much as an incentive for people to buy as something else would.

  15. Yes, but it has been given away so many times (even without purchase) that the number of people that actually don't have it must be fairly low.

  19. I want a real one. A strange as it is Balalaikas are banned in the US. It goes back to WWII when these instruments were used in protest songs against Stalin. Since they were our allies our country did it as a favor to Stalin. So far no US president has removed the ban probably because they are not aware of it.

  21. I prefer the term swine, thank you. ALTERNATIVE RESPONSE: We're not. We're having ours with pineapple and a side of sweet potatoes. Okay, I realize you weren't referring to me. I was just trying to inject a little humor into our nerd talk. I think you're saying that you're with the Puritans, right? In any event, I'll pivot back to music before the mods clip this thread. So I wish you and everyone else here a great, peaceful, friendly, happy and healthy day.

  22. I feel you. I have a raft of songs that have been sitting here because none of my channel strips can pull off the kind of subtle transformer saturation I require. And what's a channel strip without a bus compressor? Where are all the bus compressors?

  26. Sorry I didn't comment sooner. Yes MCabinetMB does come with MCabinet. As other people have said it is very light on CPU, so you don't have to worry if you're using tons of tracks. You can also blend multiple IRs in a way that doesn't use much more CPU. If you want to try to add some dynamics, use the dynamic EQ to compress or expand the sound depending on how hard you play. You can also use the "MODs" to do things like change the IR mix depending on how hard you're playing. I'll try to do more videos on this in the future. Merry Xmas

  27. Here's what I'm working on today. I have no idea what "style" it might fall under. The oohs are five different patches from Omnisphere plus one Kontakt library. I've had no success yet finding a place for Blue in it. https://www.soundclick.com/music/songInfo.cfm?songID=14355696

  35. I completed my U-He synth collection last year in the NI half-price sale and I wouldn't be without any of them including Bazille. Also, further to the post above by @kevin H Howard Scarr's 118 page pdf about the Bazille Cookbook is worth a read and can be downloaded for free on that page.

  36. It's too late to tell this now, but when Plugin Alliance has a sale like this with daily deals, a last minute encore with all the deals available is not guaranteed but definitely not unexpected. They have done it many times before. But don't feel too bad. If you bought something that is now discounted, that's something that happens to everyone sooner or later. If you missed a plugin you wanted, I promise that you can almost certainly get it at the same price or lower before summer.

  37. I was under the impression that you could compose any beat you want with it. So far, after looking a dozens of videos about it, I've come to the conclusion that this can't be done - but I'm hoping that I'm wrong. I think it may be great if all you're looking for is to make (what I call) dance music. Oh well... $60 down the drain. I'll be sure to do a lot more investigating before I buy something else on impulse. /Bobby

  39. Could've fooled me. There's a few things I might change, but I think they're more like aesthetic choices than actual flaws. Could've fooled me. Even if you might not have the range or technique of someone like Chris Cornell, you're in tune and in time. That's what matters. If you do that, I will find you and I will hurt you.😁

  40. I left that as stock because it is used elsewhere to indicate "click here to show a drop-down menu" (i.e., Track Pane Edit Filter, I/O, etc). And that's what it is. I get that the Bakers used the down-triangle based on Windows combo/list widgets, and I'm okay with that. So my argument for that is consistency. I considered this, and will probably do it in the next update. Agreed; I knew they'd still be some places left to clean up. I was prepared to implement the turny-triangles, but then I saw the "Show Bus Pane" and thought, hang on, we have a seriously under-used precedent for "expand/contract", how would it look if I propagated it? And I really liked the end result. So I ran with it. I may have missed the reasoning behind changing this. I'll review. Also, now I'll take a look at Tungsten RS, now that you've released it 🙂

  42. I can share some of my MCabinet presets to show how I use their R and W settings, whatever they mean. Definitely! AT5 runs circles around AT4 in cab simulation. In fact, cabs in AT4 were the weakest link in the otherwise solid product. Overloud's SuperCabinets is one very powerful IR loader. Hopefully, you won't be disappointed.
