  3. I used this on a remix I was working on. The original bass line was just sustained whole notes. By using the gate and pitch functions, I was able to turn the original into something that resembled something more like the bass line in Herb Alpert's "Rise"

  4. I have the v3's of Ultra Analog and Chromaphone. The new v3 GUI is awesome for both, and the dual engine 'Layer A'/'Layer B' for the new AAS synths truly rocks with more complex sounds made possible!!! They have remastered the Chromaphone v2 factory presets for use in v3, plus added a new new factory presets library for v3 to Ultra Analog and Chromaphone. Not implying here that they added Layer B to the former presets, as that feature only appears to be used in the new v3 factory presets.

  9. More and more plugin developers have very frequent updates, but do not provide (detailed) change logs! I hate it, because in many cases I don't need their updates (e.g. I don't use Mac, Pro Tools, ...). So it is a waste of time to always migrate my systems.

  10. Yep, the 6 month refresh requirement is about my only gripe coming from an easy unlimited off-line install scenario that never needed to check in or phone home.

  12. I'm still stupid on how to use a compressor despite watching tutorial. If all of my compressors turned into hardware I would need a warehouse for them.

  13. ^^ Killer advice! But I'll counter what Mark says slightly in that while more mics means more control, it also means more potential issues with bleed from other drums or phase issues. I'm a guy who uses a LOT of mics on a kit, and I'm not scared to try something unconventional, like close-mic'ing cymbals and all of that kind of stuff, but I definitely remember the first time I tried a multi-mic kit after coming from using drum machines almost exclusively before then... wow, was it ever confronting! "I want to turn the snare up. Oops, too much hi-hat in the snare mic! Can't." "The cymbals should be louder. Oops, too much snare in the overheads! Can't." "Yes, huge tom roll! We'll EQ and compress those to sound huge. Oops, cymbal bleed sounds terrible in the tom mics." AAARGGHH!! I'd recommend going as simple as possible and using as few mics as you can get away with. Start with a good overhead sound to get the kit itself sounding good. This is where I completely agree with what Mark said - the drummer needs to play well and very balanced, and the kit needs to sound great, so that those mics just hear a great drummer playing a great kit first and foremost. Then use the rest of the mics to fill in the blanks. You'd want a kick mic for sure, possibly a snare mic, and then work backwards, being careful that whatever mic you're adding isn't causing you more issues than what the goodness you're trying to gain. And yes, absolutely recording a sample set of the drums is really handy. We have great tools like Audiosnap and Drum Replacer that can enhance or even fix some disasters. I would go exclusively mono mics on any drum stuff, so you have better control over panning, and you're not introducing even more potential points for phase issues. Keep it simple and work up. Guitars, it's incredibly rare for me to go stereo because I normally record DI and re-amp later or run through plugins. I've been locked into a sound that I've had to revisit later for a remix or whatever and kicked myself for not having any flexibility to change anything. And stereo can sometimes really limit how you place stuff in the stereo field. But each to their own - if you're getting exactly what you want to hear out of your effects and it's stereo, absolutely by all means go that way. The end justifies the means, so feel free to ignore everything I said here if you're getting the results you're after.

  19. At first I thought, what a mono piano but then as you could hear in the video, it was an interesting surprise to hear the depth that was there. It also really came alive when it was passed through the "Room" which allowed it to have somewhat of a stereo field.

  20. Spinning up my old hardrives to keep them working I found this old orchestral project made in 2002 using Sonar 6 or so.. This has my old EX4t for the Violin, Cello & flute..poorly mixed, no plans on editing, made these YouTube audio versions for my archives. This was done at a time when I was waking up at around 4 a.m. after going to be around midnight..Half asleep I started composing this by using the brush tool in ACID 3.0 & painting in loops at random a la Jackson Pollock then recording the other tracks quickly keeping the first takes & ideas. I used 1 or 2 reoccurring themes throughout. After 2 weeks I ended up with this experimental symphonic type suite. Audio only, split into 2 parts..not for everyone's tastes, may be better suited for background listening... stay safe..

  21. In terms of quality customer support I have to mention UJAM, excellent experience even if they didn't have a direct solution for my Cakewalk issue it's still very rewarding. And another vote against online-only authorization method here.

  22. I finally picked up M-Tron Pro and the M300 library. If you're into Trons, this is a must have. As Fleer posted, it is the best -- and I own a lot of other Tron sample libraries and VSTs (yes, my name is Peter and I am a sample hoarder).

  28. Melda Production Audiority I'll include Plugin Alliance because the quality/sale with loyalty is about as good as it gets if you are patient. Authorization fits in the acceptable category but I'd prefer more freedom. Toneboosters has a lot of bang for the buck, compare features and interface of EQ4 to anything on the market to the price. Upgrades at IKM are terrible but they are responsive on the customer support side even for the free products. And the number of products they have given away over the last 2 years is pretty amazing. And 9 authorizations with the ability to deauthorize is pretty good (expiring downloads for purchased products is also terrible)

  35. Fun fact: I was in the band (playing geetar in Spektralized, a band I've played live, and some studio with since 2001) that played before Kraftwerk in the Arvika (Sweden) festival in 2006. It was an outdoor gig in beautiful weather 👍 We played the stage next to them while their stuff was loaded on stage.
