  3. You Don't Know Jack Schitt? Many people are at a loss for a response when someone says, "You don't know Jack Schitt." Now you can intellectually handle the situation. Jack is the only son of Awe Schitt and O. Schitt. Awe Schitt, the fertilizer magnate, married O. Schitt, a partner of Kneedeep &. Schitt Inc. In turn, Jack Schitt married Noe Schitt, and the deeply religious couple produced 6 children: Holie Schitt, Fulla Schitt, Giva Schitt, Bull Schitt, and the twins: Deep Schitt and Dip Schitt. Against her parents' objections, Deep Schitt married Dumb Schitt, a high school drop out. After being married 15 years, Jack and Noe Schitt divorced. Noe Schitt later married Mr.Sherlock, and because her kids were living with them she wanted to keep her previous name. She was known as Noe Schitt-Sherlock. Dip Schitt married Loda Schitt and they produced a nervous son, Chicken Schitt. Fulla Schitt and Giva Schitt were inseparable throughout childhood and subsequently married the Happens brothers in a dual ceremony. The wedding announcement in the newspaper announced the Schitt-Happens wedding. The Schitt-Happens children were Dawg, Byrd, and Hoarse. Bull Schitt, the prodigal son, left home to tour the world. He recently returned from Italy with his new bride, Piza Schitt. So now if someone says, "You don't know Jack Schitt", you can correct them. Not only do you know Jack, you know his whole family!

  4. Sorry this is much better than the old one, and is resizable. While I don't think it is the best looking plugin I have, it is an order of magnitue better than the old original klunker. Hopefully this is a sign that Boz is going to start making resizable updates, as the plugins are starting to feel long in the tooth without such feature sets.

  8. ALT+S does work, but it toggles solo on the selected tracks. So to un-solo all, you'd need to: CTRL+A to select all ALT+S twice to un-solo ( the first solo's everything, the second un-solos everything )

  11. Not too long ago, I played both the PC Games, Hollow Knight and Ori and the Will of the Wisps. In addition to being incredible games, they both had beautiful soundtracks. I was trying to write something that captured the feel of those songs. A few years ago, I wrote a tune called To the Outer Planets. For reasons known only to Google's algorithms, it has recently racked about 40,000 views. So. In a shameless bid to take advantage of that, I have named this one Among the Outer Planets. As always, I appreciate any feedback you might have. Also, this was inspired by the planet themed songs that were being posted by Wookie and others not too long ago. Jeff

  14. I know there are some serious orchestrators here, and this content isn't targeted at them. This will appeal more to the casual composer who just dabbles in pseudo-classical genres. Like me. Anne-Kathrin Dern is a working composer out of Los Angeles, originally from Germany (like another famous composer we all know and love, whose company she once worked for). Her background includes creating sample libraries for CineSamples, so she's very knowledgeable about that stuff. She's been doing this quite a while, despite her apparent young age. No, you won't recognize most of the movies she's done; they are third-tier flicks like Hallmark Christmas specials and kid's shows. But she's done a lot of them, makes a living at it and knows her sh*t. The channel's content ranges from orchestration/composition tips to library reviews to how-to techniques to the recording process. It's the latter category I find most interesting, as she explains how a cue gets from ITB mockup to live orchestra. Plus she's way cuter than Rick Beato.

  15. You almost got me again, Larry. $16.79 is a great deal. This time, though, I checked my plugin inventory first and found out I already have it. OK, so I apparently have too many plugins. In my defense it's still a far smaller collection than bapu's hoard.

  17. @Wookiee Thanks O. Furry One! I recently requested an additional forum for mixes and maybe mix templates. (not had a reply yet). Many post their songs up and then post various revisions for advice on mixing etc. My suggestion it would be good to have a dedicated area. Its so easy to get lost.. ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. Dont stress too much. Some here think just because you have +0 Community reputation points that the member is New to Cakewalk or have no knowledge of the daw. It's just a misconception on reality in the realm of the internet. Millions use Cakewalk for years, but only discover its forum today. Might be new to the forum, yes. Definitely not the DAW. I'm not trying to disrespect anyone. So, my apologies if this leans towards that area.

  19. I haven't yet tried the network abilities but my main network use is with my iPad and I don't think BC connector is available as an IOS app or not yet at any rate (and I already have a working solution for this). However, the possibilities seem endless e.g. another use would be to provide separate audio outputs per layer in Unify. Here's a tutorial on offloading plugin processing to another computer using Connector: https://www.bluecataudio.com/Blog/tip-of-the-day/offloading-plug-ins-processing-to-another-computer/ For the relatively low price I will buy it. It seems like a good concept and investment; plus I like to support devs like Blue Cat. I would also prefer to use a single utility rather than lots of separate, free/donationware with limited or no support.

  20. After taking into account @DeeringAmps suggestions with call and response I have now added mix 5. Again learnt a lot here... as I had never thought about "call and response" before. Made me look at country music in a different way. Thanks. I know this thread is long and un-interesting to some people but I have done it so people can see the thought process that goes into a mix. The guy who orignally mixed this did it in about 10 mins... I have taken days!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  21. As a test, I used addictive drums to replicate your Scenario. 2 stepped clips, the first starting with a crash and hi-hats. The second stepped clip with just the hi-hats. I put the second clip straight after the first clip. Pressed play. It played as I expected. No crash cymbal sounded when the second clip played. One thing I can think of is this. You know how you can drag the right edge of a stepped clip to repeat the clip. Well, I am wondering if you inadvertently started a drag of the first clip's right edge to start a repetition. Zoom into the first clip to make sure there are no repeats. I was able to replicate your issue by dragging the right edge of the first clip. Once I did this, then the crash sounded at the play back of the second clip.

  23. Any time an interface has a factory supplied ASIO driver that should be the first choice. Note, this does not include interfaces that ship with ASIO4ALL. Focusrite does supply genuine ASIO drivers. https://support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/207546105-How-to-install-Focusrite-drivers-on-Windows When using a factory supplied driver, it is important to make sure generic ASIO drivers such as ASIO4All and the generic drivers included with Cubase, Samplitude and FL Studio are not installed.

  27. Avid quietly pulled the Pro Tools First product late last year and Focusrite are now offering a 3 month Avid subscription as an alternative. The seem to give you this even if you've already had the First licence. I thought I'd take a look, even though I have zero intention of subscribing. When you link this to your Avid account it dumps 3 month licences into your ilok account. So far so good - but on my account it activated a "protools inner circle' deal which has a bunch of free plugins and sound content. It's worth taking a look even if you have zero interest in an Avid subscription/Trial. NOTE: that when Avid dump the licences (lots of them !) in your iLok account the 3 month countdown begins immediately. It's not the 3 months from activation that you normally get. If you were thinking of actually using the 3 month licences you may want to wait until you need it to maximise your 3 months...if that makes sense ? ALSO: Avid also do a 1 month free trial with licences that begin after activation - and you can 'stack' these in your iLok account - so you can effectively get 4 months free if subscriptions appeal ?

  29. Just overheads. As is typical with Meldaproducts, I found the documentation to be unhelpful in respect to suggested use scenarios. I picked up what I could from the Meldaproduction forum and came to the conclusion that my drum kit would be happier if I just used MAutoalign on the overheads. You know how much respect I have for Vojtech and his products, but the lack of application notes in his documentation is so frustrating. The plug-ins are amazing, and have really deep feature sets, but about half the time I don't even know what the feature or even the entire plug-in is supposed to do. MDrumleveler is an example. I can't figure out if I'm supposed to use it on individual drum mics, the overheads, the whole drum bus, or what. So a potentially useful plug-in just sits. Same with some of the others I got in the Essentials bundle. And with a lot of the ones I do use, I feel like I'm living in a house with rooms I've never gone into. ๐Ÿ˜„ The ones I do use are worth every penny I've spent and a lot more, but there's a lot of signal processing going to waste. Matter of fact, I took a look at what Nugen has to offer and concluded that there's nothing I want that isn't already covered by Meldathings like MSpectralPan. But again, it was reading the ad copy for the competitor's product that got me to understand the possible applications for MSpectralPan. That seems wrong, somehow.๐Ÿ˜ P.S. I know that Chandler has done YouTube videos for a lot of Meldaproduction products, but I don't retain as well from videos as I do written material.

  34. Say what! This is the "Songs" forum, there isn't a person here that hasn't toiled for hours on a mix and questioned every decision they've made. creative process, who doesn't love insight in how others work? No, he was "familiar" with the track, I could be wrong; but no! Coming from a rock/blues background; its all about the call and response... I would "center", and bring up the level, on something when the singer is quiet. I'd have to go thru tracks, but I suspect there's something to "fill the void"; I could be wrong... I'm guitar "centric", and I know that; but with all these tracks, someone is "playing his a-s-s off" everytime the singer takes a long breath. Also, the first section of the solo lacks a "focal" point. I'm not hearing anything, and I find that surprising. The second section has that slide work (Dobro maybe). You've got that pretty well centered. These are my quick thoughts. HTH t big ๐Ÿ‘'s on the whole process here!

Thanks for the comments mate ATB Steve ( Are you still using the 1884 without problems, if you are I am well impressed, it's a great board but I had issues with my 1082 years ago and swapped it for a Behringer X Touch .. still miss the Tascam though it was a great bit'o'kit )

  40. It has quite a different sound to RC-20 (especially reverb / echo). And the bitcrush is quite a bit different than some others. I really didn't like Retro Fi when I demo'd it, so I would say VYBZ is superior. But I have a lot of lofi plugins and a prefer a certain sound. For lofi multi-effects I would put in order: XLN - RC-20 (great all around) Unfiltered Audio - Lo-Fi AF (love this plugin), Byome / Triad Freakshow Industries - Mishby, Dumpster Fire, Backmask AudioThing - Wires, Speakers, etc. Excite - Lifeline (just got this - it's amazing) Abberant Audio - Sketch Cassette WavesFactory - Cassette Thenatan - Vybz Neold - Warble Amplitube 5 (underrated for lo-fi) Stock DAW plugins STDs. ... ... Waves Retro Fi. Hehe. I think Vybz is a no-brainer for 10 bucks. Comes in handy sometimes. Edit: Oops confused RC-20 with Lo-Fi AF when it comes to reverb. Corrected.

  43. ? Not sure why you would need the step sequencer to create a hi hat and crash pattern. Most would just draw the notes in the PVR or actually play them and record them using a Controller or the Virtual Keyboard. Or drag a MIdi loop of a pattern to a amidi track, The step sequencer takes a bit more knowledge to master. One should not have deadlines for creating with tools they have yet to master?

  46. I finally tried EZBass on a new tune where I thought my established bass part could use some new ideas. It's a new 'Citizen Regen' metal tune. So, I loaded up the metal bass, plugged in the chords, and chose some metal patterns for the intro, verse, pre-chorus and the chorus. Comparatively speaking the various patterns I picked vs what I originally played were pretty busy (think Victor Wooten Solo but in Metal genre). One small verse section was even pretty close to what I originally played. Now, there was one section I really liked and so I nicked it for my final take that I played on the track, not EZBass. It was something I would probably never would have stumbled on, so it was a cool find.

  48. Most of the old synths still run really good. In fact, most run better on current hardware than they did when new! ๐Ÿ™‚ I think a lot of the difference in modern synths is UI design, preset browsers, and programming workflow. And factory presets. The synth developers try to keep making them easier to use. But soundwise, it is mostly up to the sound designers who designed the preset collections for the perceived quality of a given instrument's sound. Any of those synths in the hands of a skilled sound designer can make nearly any sound. When you use a label such as "modern" sounding you may be referring to newer synths that toss in wavetable and granular synthesis in addition to virtual analog, which may contribute to a perceived modern sound such as those synths that emphasize EDM in their preset libraries. For example, using virtual analog, a saw wave is a saw wave (or same for sine, square, triangle). It's how you filter it, shape envelopes (ADSR), assign LFOs, and effects, etc., that define a sound. Any particular synth architecture may set limits on how many choices of oscillator sources you have, how many voices, how many layers, filter and envelope designs, how you route modulations, etc. My take is that if you are looking for "modern" sounds, choose a synth that includes wavetable synthesis. And if you are not interested in programming, choose one with a lot of factory presets. Or a money pit with lots of sound expansions for sale. My biggest annoyance with the old stuff is generally the UI size, and that many have not been updated to be scalable for high res screens. But bottom line answer is Z3TA 2, Rapture Classic and Dimension Pro are still functional and good sounding. The UIs are a bit dated though. I still think Rapture classic has some fantastic sounds that I have not heard anywhere else!
