  1. Anybody who has read me at all on this forum knows that I have a passion for world music and world virtual instrument. There are a lot of things I hear often on the internet about world virtual instruments that don't sit well with me. This is my reaction to those things, and that's why it's so personal to me. I consider this my first video. It's also the first one not signed by Tiger, but by Reid. Oh, and if anybody thinks the title is clickbait, please watch the video before you make that claim. I believe the video earns its title. At the beginning of the video, there is a story I tell about the adventures I had working on Ridley Scott's "1492:Conquest of Paradise." When I was editing it, for fun I tried some music by my friend Tatiana Gordeeva, "The Legend of Edward B.," to play underneath it and I liked the way it sounded a lot. So I wrote her, showed her the sequence and asked if she would grant me permission to use "Edward B." in the video. Instead she offered to write original music--and that's what you will hear.

  3. Will, can I give you some good advice? You rightly reported a fairly annoying bug. What you were saying was correct, although John is correct - your first screenshots were wrong. It was conflicting information that muddied the waters and confused your report. What you were saying in your OP was entirely different to your screenshots, which was confusing. Each reply, especially your last one has come across and more and more aggressive and this is now more like a tantrum than a bug report, like you've done on many posts. A lot of long time posters here don't participate in your threads because they often go this way. Take a breath before you reply, you'll get more people responding favourably to your posts and working with you if you're not stamping your foot like an angry child.

  6. BandLab has focused on delivering the best free professional DAW in the world!!! So why so much concern for ancient plug-ins? I have all of the plugins from Sonar Platinum, but most of the free stuff out there blows them away from a technical perspective. A lot of that was based on 15 year old tech. The good stuff is still distributed in CbB... If you want more, just go out and download the free plugins that are available, or buy professional plugins if you can afford them.

  7. .sig is fine too. It's not that big a deal either way. It might be different if a user was abusive or continuously spammed the forum.

  9. Its an old bug. The same thing happens in SONAR. We'll look into improving it.

  10. Sounds like a great setup. Unfortunately, we're already a six-piece band and can't afford to bring in a second guitarist for operational redundancy. Then again, we have no fewer than three tambourine players. Just in case one of them goes out of tune.

  18. Sorry, but both are excellent. I use them regularly in most mixes. I wish all my plugins were so thoughfully designed/executed. Note, I don't use them to enhance audio but rather to fix problems or achieve standard mixing goals. I used to use them to enhance/sweeten/fortify tracks but found there were many better alternatives (YMMV).

  26. @PhonoBrainer Thanks Tom, Heartbeat hum I only have it as I got as part of a deal because I own Softubes Modular (joke). I used it here because I wanted to restrict myself to only Softube synths, if I am honest it is not my go to for electronic drums. Can it do the job yes but in some ways they have tried to be to clever with it which has had a negative affect overall. If you own a modular system like Cherry Audio VM I would normally use that. If you do not their VM + Electro Drums is $99 against Softubes Heartbeat $139 The big advantage of Cherry Audio's deal is you get the Core to their Voltage Modular, which includes a sequencer plus real electronic drums as against Softubes which is a mixture of Electronic and Samples, with no sequencing software. All in all I find Softubes Modular attempts poor in comparison with Cherry Audio's, I mean Polyphonic Modular come on.

  27. ...a minor one, but... Would be nice if "Append Instrument Track" would add the appended track just after the last existing one of the associated synth. Or before it. Or indeed anywhere near it. The new track is simply added at the very end of all the tracks in the project, so potentially nowhere near the synth to which it is being appended. And if the synth and its associated tracks are in a folder, whether created when inserting the synth or after the fact, the appended track isn't even included in the folder. In larger projects, it took me a while to even realize that a new track had even been created when an "Append" request was made, as my focus was naturally in the area where the synth lived. A little counter- intuitive, no?

  28. Huuuuge Knopfler fan here! Your guitars are credible - I'd say your vocal needs to be more prominent in the mix, and maybe processed with a goal of adding some weight or heft to the vocal - like a multiband compressor primarily working on some lower frequencies? Just a thought. Maybe the vocal could be doubled? It's got some cool interpretations and inflections in your performance. A blast from the past, nice job, thanks! cheers, -Tom

  29. Michael, I did try it with a stand alone B3 organ and didn't work. However, my PC tech just fixed it, all set now! He did what you said about uninstalling the driver then re-installing it, but he did fix a couple of other things before doing that. It seems I'm all set now. It was just strange that CW would notice when I turned off the keyboard, and when I turned it back on it asked if I want to add it, but it never showed up in the active midi device list in CW. Thanks guys for hanging with me on this and for all the help, much appreciated!

  30. So true, Piotr - I hid or uninstalled about a quarter of all plugins in my instrument and effect pages in the S1 browser. It looks and feels great to just make the "maybe that will come in handy someday" plugins go away, assuming what remains will probably do what I need and perhaps better than the ones I got rid of. Having all of those "maybe" options means I'm not exploring or understanding what I have already. Now, the question is "how do I make that Fabfilter sale eliminate even more of those second-rate plugins on my list?" Followed shortly by "how am I gonna pay for it???"

  34. I would not call this Dance Type EDM. Why because it is not mindless enough. Might get played in a club whist they are setting up or breaking down but there is not as, Tezza said, , a 4 to the Floor mind numbing sub Bass kick to be the genre described. In fact it might be considered to clever.

  38. Congratulations Noel and Cakewalk team. I’m astounded how many improvements continue to be made to this program. I guess I could always find something to complain about or beg for a specific change or feature but after having now passed 25 years of using Cakewalk/Pro/Sonar/CbB (along with other programs) I’m actually content to follow Cakewalk’s vision for the program’s development. Since the acquisition by Bandlab, I have to admit I haven’t been able to keep up with the rate of development of existing and addition of some of the new features. The program now far outstrips my ability to maintain what I once would have claimed as being a very high level of proficiency with its use. I guess I continue to make music (when health permits) the same as I’ve done for ages and while the improved stability and smoothness benefit my process, I’m a long way off using many of the new features. While that leaves me more to explore in Cakewalk itself, I really miss the days when I felt I was able to make meaningful contributions to the community here. Like chiming in to answer a query regarding a function or process. These days I’m lucky if I understand the question. Lol Anyways, after rambling on so much; congratulations again to Noel and the team for another stellar update.

  39. Hatstand's flattener preset. This is a pro channel eq preset which you can use to check if your mix has any issues. It won't sound nice, I guarantee, but it will tell you whether your mix is close to having no eq problems. Stick this (temporarily) on your master bus or on an aux send going nowhere and whack a spectrum analyser on it. Your mix over the entire track should look something like this; i.e. close to flat across the spectrum. (let the whole mix play not just 30 seconds of it) This preset is based on several reference tracks both individually and together. It should highlight frequency issues pretty quickly. Whilst completely flat is an impossible dream, anything close to this using the preset should have it sounding darn good once you disable it. Extremely useful if you have deficiencies across the spectrum with your hearing but it is (as always) no substitute for feel, just a guide to where there might be over emphasis. Yes it will look weird ( you will no doubt be thinking wtf is this about) but it is the best I can do with four bands, but hopefully it will be a good sense check for you. As an added bonus, it will give you an idea what the different pro channel eq profiles do. This is based on the G type profile but switch to the other types such as S type, Pure and Hybrid to see the difference. (HINT: it wont be flat) Watch closely and you should hopefully see fundamentals , resonances, and harmonics. I used Izotope Insight but other analysers are available... save in Cakewalk Core>Cakewalk Content>Pro Channel presets (probably on your C drive) edit: for those of you that asked, without the preset enabled your mix should aim to look something like this, but it is much more difficult to spot anomalies as it is not a flat response curve. Any questions\comments let me know As Paul Young once sang "Wherever I lay my Hat, that's my Hatstand" Hatstands Flattener.pcp

  40. Edge webview is a component that is part of windows but is not necessarily installed by every user so we need to run the MS installer. It is not = edge browser. Its like saying the chrome runtime is Chrome. Cakewalk start screen has used the Chrome embedded framework (CEF) for a decade now and we didn't need to announce that. Its a part of the requirements to build the tools in CbB. We will likely deprecate CEF soon and only rely on edge webview runtime since that is more modern.

  41. Human sacrifice? Satan worship? Cats and dogs mating? Exactly what is the issue? If it is the collection of user data, it is likely that you have consented to worse than that with your operating system before you could even run your computer already. Have you read the privacy policy for this forum site prior to posting? If there is a problem with the code not working, I would be interested in knowing about that before I update Audacity.

  42. A common practice is to set levels/balances in mono first, before any panning. That's not done to make panning more effective, but rather to help prevent the phenomenon where the mix balance sounds fine in stereo but only when listening in the sweet spot between the speakers. That's because panning creates clarity through separation; lose the separation and you lose the clarity. For example, you might be listening to a mix from the next room and noting that it suddenly sounds inexplicably muddy. That doesn't directly address your question, though. A solution is to modify your monitoring balance to compensate for the hearing imbalance. After you've done that, you can be confident that others will hear your pan decisions the same way you do. I compensate for unbalanced sensitivity between my ears by adding about 2 db of extra gain on my right speaker. I play some white noise, sit smackdab in the middle between the speakers, close my eyes and listen for the "phantom center". If it sounds centered, I know the right speaker is now correctly compensating for the lower sensitivity in my right ear. I could accomplish the same end using the balance control on the master bus, but prefer to adjust the speaker because it's a set-and-forget solution.

  44. Investment in Melda's things has one crucial benefit. They don't require any additional payment with any version advancement. So if they are improving algorithms or functionality you are getting them free of charge. Owner of their plugins can feel appreciated for that reason similar like for Acustica Audio. And maybe they are not the prettiest but really powerful and useful. And they GUI as is written as shared by all plugins library has this advantage that with update is applied to all plugins at once. Unlike PA plugins which older and newer plugins are often like day and night difference about options for the same type of plugin.
