  1. This is an oft-broached topic, people bemoaning that something doesn't work right after an upgrade or how do I roll back to the previous version, yada yada (before figuring out that it was something else that changed on their system that broke it), so I'll share a tip. Typically when CbB is updated, the major changes only occur in C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Core (assuming you have installed Cakewalk in the default location, if you have not, adjust accordingly) If you want to upgrade to the latest version of CbB yet also retain the ability to run the previous version, all you need to do is make a copy of Cakewalk Core before you let the upgrade do its thing. If you want to get fancy, you can rename the copied folder to reflect exactly which revision of the program it contains. In this way you could have 2 or 3 revisions of CbB sitting there if you wanted to. To set this up: Right click on C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Core and select Copy. Right click in the C:\Program Files\Cakewalk folder and select Paste. This will result in there being a new folder with the name "Cakewalk Core - Copy" which you can rename "Cakewalk Core Previous" or whatever. Then let the upgrade run its course. If you want to run the previous version, all you need to do is run the Cakewalk.exe that is inside the "Cakewalk Core Previous" folder, which you can do directly or from a shortcut.

  3. I agree with the others that it sounds as if the client has used a demo version of an audio conversion program to supply different formats for distribution. I gently suggest that this is an issue of client management. Ask them what formats they require for distribution so that you may deliver them in those final formats. Instruct them not to do any conversion themselves, that you will be happy to supply any further formats if required. This will prevent any future such problems. If this is not practical for whatever reasons, I recommend that you supply your files in FLAC format and that the client use MediaHuman Audio Converter to do their conversions. MediaHuman is 100% freeware and does not impose any watermarking. It is easy to use, available on Windows and Mac OSX and handles conversions to and from all popular formats. https://www.mediahuman.com/audio-converter/ I hope this helps!

  8. This was how SONAR worked through X3. IIRC, a change was introduced early in 2015 where the interleave was no longer linked to the track input but I do not recall the rationale for the change.

  11. I listened on headphones. I liked it inside of the first second turned it on. Cool groove, cool progression, cool as hell! So I imagine you are still playing with eq and such? What's great about this groove is also what could be trouble - it's pretty dense with all the parts. As I listen to the bass guitar, I get (again, on headphones, HD380 pro, they have decent bass response) I'm hearing the wonderful "plucky" bass highs. But also, some really deep and kind of gushy sub-bass. I think you also have some kind of boomwhacker in there? I'd maybe tame that sub-bass region just a bit, it fills and fills the basement. Might be worth moving that hpf up just a tad? It's most noticeable around 1:30, whatever chorus or section you have there. Maybe a bit more variation in the drum fills? OK, again, great song, vocals totally work a treat, I could hear plenty of the lyrics. Wouldn't this be fun to play live? The room would go crazy. cheers, -Tom

  12. Time has been limited lately so I chose to just post a video of me playing my latest compo. The basic organ part is the basis for the rest of it. This is a classical piece loosely based on the way Bach made music. I am reading a bio on Bach and am fascinated by the way he made music.I'm also a fan of baroque music. I intentionally added an bunch of twists and turns in this to make it more difficult to "pre think" the music.

  14. In addition to my request for Nested Folders can I also ask that we have the ability to Export By Folder In the world of making music for TV & Film Libraries more and more of them are wanting stems. The easiest way to organise stems is by Folder ( not busses ) so the ability to Export them would be a huge time saver

  16. Don't you think it’s wrong that only one company makes the game Monopoly? Speaking of, Don't play poker with Tarot cards I did once got a full house and 4 people died. Which reminds me, yesterday a woman at the grocery store leaned toward me and whispered I was going to tell you a joke about my *****, but you will never get it. Don't you hate it when someone answers their own question. I do but that's not important right now The New England Journal of Medicine reports that 9 out of 10 doctors agree that 1 out of 10 doctors is an idiot. You're not in trouble til you hear a doc say you have a very short time left and you ask how much and says 10 and you say 10 what and says he says 9 8 7 6

  19. Thanks Larry. As you say there is little doubt what is causing the crash I just wondered if the computer gibberish included in the error message gave any clue as to why. It seems that others who have this plug-in are not experiencing this issue, so I just was hoping that somebody could suggest why before going down official channels and causing possibly unnecessary work for someone.

  20. Go to your Cortana area and type OSK to bring up the Onscreen Keyboard. In the lower right you will see a button for ScrLk. Click it. Thanks for asking this, because I noticed that my Dell Latitude also lacks a Scroll Lock key and it made me figure it out for myself!

  21. Are you going to edit the Wikipedia page on SONAR? If so, it would be great if you could do some tidying in there as well. I don't know who thought it would be a appropriate to list every single plug-in effect, great and small, included with each revision, but they were wrong.😊It's historical now, but SONAR deserves better than that mess 1. If you are not 100% sure about the dual monitor thing, write what you are sure of or cheat a bit and say that SONAR was "one of the first" or "the first commercially successful DAW" or "the first DAW to successfully" implement dual monitor functionality. That sort of thing may be frowned upon, but it's more important to give credit where it's due than it is to be 100% ironclad IMO. Besides, if someone reads the entry and suffers from knicker entwistment as a result, they are just as free to revise the entry as you are. 2. If you are not 100% sure, again, you can say "most DAW's" or "all in the top 10 list," with an external cite to Music Radar's yearly Top 10 list, which Wikipedia's reviewers love. It's hard to say "all" about things like software features, because there could be some tiny abandoned freeware program somewhere with a cult following of 25 users that never had dual monitor support.

  22. I don't know if this is supposed to be funny, but it's certainly not helpful. The OP indicates in his first sentence that he knows CbB is crashing, and it's because of unfreezing Sektor. @paulo, this is the kind of thing you need to send to support@cakewalk.com. They may want you to send the dump file described in the error message. A little more information here. Best of luck!

  24. A song you wrote at 19 - that's cool - I liked the song and it's catchy. As far as the mix is concerned, I would like to hear more separation for the bass, but it's not that bad as it is.

  25. Maybe instead of vouchers they are starting some new "plugin of the month price" thing? They certainly keep coming up with strange pricing. Just have to be patient, pick your target price and wait for it. BYOME is pretty neat, but to be honest it's not been very useful for making music. This multi-band version seems nice but again not sure how it helps me all that much. A lot of these advanced audio effects fall in that boat for me, could be it's just me though.

  26. Lol you did great on your own. Maybe a collab later on. "Nordic fury" suitable name? 🤣 I have my "studio" in the livingroom with a second child coming in about two weeks, so not much time for daw-ing now. We have planned the top floor for about 1,5 years and in august it hopefully is ready for moving in. Then I will get an own music room again.

  27. It makes sense to me to NOT have the interleave linked to input. I might record a Mono guitar but want to process it with a Stereo Guitar plugin like Guitar Rig. Or a Mono vox track with a stereo doubler like ADT. Just because it’s mono in doesn’t mean I want mono out. This rationale makes sense to me.

  28. Thanks so much for the comments... very helpful. When I ask for comments you dont hurt my feelings ... as I want it all full barrel. This is why I post here. Its OK having all the gear... but you also need the ability. I am finding it hard with the accordion and dont have a reference track to relate too!

  31. Nice song you got there Gary. Agree with Steve on the mix. Could use another go at it to bring things out more clearly. All instruments sound good, and like Steve said, the squeeze box sounds good. Like it will be one of the highlights of the song if you can get it to stand out a little more without overpowering the strumming guitar, which has a good tone to it. Maybe add a little more mid-highs to it? IDK, just thinking what I would reach for if I was sitting at the desk!

  32. Yep, the same here. To be funny I got email from them with heavy hitter discount down to ... $99 But when logged in got $49 with plugin of the month annotation close to price as below: Not having byome.

  33. Hi Mate, you have a nice tune here with a great story line so all good there, I feel as if the instruments have been mixed as one track without any sub mix to eq and bring the whole thing out. The guitar playing is good the squeeze box is on the money and the beat fits .... it may be my old ears or the cans, but it sounds a bit muddy, even through the monitors there's a mid range cloudiness. I've seen your gear so I know you can bring this out a bit, and your correct IMO about the vox being too harsh ...that said Iike this a lot but I feel it could do with another mix ... hope that helps but it's only my thinking ...and you did ask for ops on it. All the best Steve

  34. I agree with Base57. You should be able to scale your screen to a preferred resolution/size. There's some additional options in win10 regarding scaling and blurring. I've been using a 2k/25" monitor for some years now, and have started planning a bigger screen due to ageing eyes. 1440 resolution is great for Cakewalk but 25" is too small. I wonder what size a 4k monitor should be for usable image at a native resolution. Is 32" too small? Maybe cheaper to buy better glasses 🧐

  35. Hi Mark Three different situations: a) Waves C1 comp Mono --> New Track. Interleave in Stereo. Then I record. Then I add the mono plugin. Finally I pass Interleave to Mono and Bounce to Clip. Result Everything perfect. b) FabFilter Pro-Q2 Mono --> New Track. Interleave in Stereo Then I record. Then I add the mono plugin and everything is blocked. Close Cakewalk with End task and rerun Cakewalk. c) FabFilter Pro-Q2 Mono --> New Track. Interleave in Stereo Then I record. Now I pass Interleave to MONO, before add the plugin, then I add the plugin and finally Bounce to Clip. Result Everything perfect. Waves allows you to add the plugin with Interleave in Stereo and with FabFilter you have to pass Interleave to Mono BEFORE adding the plugin. Of course for the Bounce to Clip to work well it is imperative that Interleave finally be in Mono. This is what I just tried. I hope it is useful for you.

  36. Hi guys, as usual there's a lot of astute listening done here so .. I took off the ending lead vocal track because of the trolls on Soundcloud, the song isn't complete without the last chorus part...but that's OK I have the finished vers in the studio. The whole work was started on Plat and then moved to CB 10 pro, mainly because ( for some reason I can't be bothered with) when using loads of multi tracks, it tends to freeze (always when you least expect) .. To date I'm looking into the Eq thing, side chaining and proper use of dynamics ... I figured at my age I should at least try, as mixing stuff is key to the songs I do.. and for the sake of repeating myself, you picked the heavy fly in the ointment Tom, the bass is too high, although I toned it down a bit and then brought down the Eq where it felt kind of muddy ...as said, I'm trying stuff out and as this is supposed to be a bit EDM, I left it in ... but I take your point so thanks mate . As regards to doing it live .. now that would be a gas ! LOL. The tech side of this work involved 4 lead vocal lines, 4 instances of chorus using a TC Helicon VL touch, 3 different drum kits each having 6 to 8 separate tracks and 5 guitar tracks so I had 6 busses to mix down to and then out to home where I put a touch more Eq and compression. Before the uploading I run the whole song through Cyberlink Audio-director which if used with a delicate ear you have the ability to do fine adjustments .... To answer the question Are you doing strictly LCR or are you the type to use the entire space?, each track is located using the entire space because with so much going on the song would be too messy ... and I suppose as Tom has pointed out, I most probably missed the ball there .. Thanks all for the time spent ..it means a lot !! Steve

  43. I agree that AAF should be in Cakewalk. I don't agree that Cakewalk is standing still. Right now Cakewalk is the best it has ever been. It will only get better. I'm going to list all the audio and video programs I use and have actually bought and own. Cakewalk Cubase Pro 10 Sampiltude Pro X4 Studio One 4.5 Fruity Loops Studio 22 Sound Forge Pro 12 Waveform 10 Vegas Pro 13 Davinci Resolve 16 Free Beta It isn't ready for prime time yet. Pinnacle Studio 22 Of the above Cubase and Cakewalk are the most used by me. Samplitude is a disappointment. Studio One is Studio One and is really not geared to my way of working. I don't view a DAW as a commitment to one developer. I use the one I find the most in tune to my way of working. Any one of those will do a good job of recording, mixing and producing music. To me the only thing Cakewalk lacks is AAF support.

  45. Good points, @Jim Roseberry. For me it boils down to "Where there's a will, there's a way," meaning if I (or you) really want to work with someone on a project we will figure out how to do it, regardless of what software each of us may be using. All the other hoo-ha is just noise.

  47. The pok from x-tempo is a pretty amazing device. It's wireless, and basically lets you program keyboard shortcuts on two banks of four footswitches. It's actually more than that, though, because you can have another set of shortcuts if you double-click the footswitch, so that's 16 keyboard shortcuts. If you dedicate one switch to a function key, then you can hold that and press a footswitch for another keyboard shortcut - so in this mode, you can have 21 keyboard shortcuts underfoot, as it were There's a Mac/Windows pok manager app for programming the shortcuts. You can also load and save profiles. For example, you could have a profile for keyboard shortcuts for Word - change selected characters to all uppercase, bold, insert page break, whatever. In addition to storing keyboard shortcuts, you can also store up to six individual keypresses as a character string. As one way to use this, if you put the keypress for zoom in horizontally (like PgUp or whatever) and the keypress zoom in vertically on the footswitch, then one footswitch press does a "two-dimensional" zoom. The pok concept has been around for a while, I wrote a review of the original wireless, USB-receiver-based unit, which was great. the latest model pok now works with Bluetooth BLE. The price is $259, but they have B-stock on the site sometimes for $179. They're rugged, so it wouldn't be a problem if it was a unit they took around to demo at a music store, had at a trade show for a few days, or whatever. Being able to place so many keyboard shortcuts under foot control is really helpful.
