  2. An accurate emulation of the Neumann w495 3-band EQ Neumann w495 EQ’s were used to master 90% of the vinyl records manufactured from the 1970s to the 1990s. But even after this golden age, many mastering engineers still love this EQ. Why? Because the w495 has wide equalization curves that can be pushed to ridiculous levels while remaining musical. The w495 is an easy-to-use tone shaper for individual tracks. But It can also enhance presence and depth of an entire mix. But we’ve taken Pulsar W495 even further, adding all the key features you would expect from a modern EQ plugin, including visual curve editing for a fast workflow. From channel EQ to mastering EQ, Pulsar w495 is an easy-to-use powerful tone shaper, faithfully emulated from an iconic 3 band EQ. https://pulsar.audio/w495/

  3. The fact of the matter is that we live in a connected world. I understand your perspective and I feel the same about some things esp appliances, but like it or not the world has moved in that direction. Even appliances like phones, and electric vehicles are extremely tied to ever changing software on the back end so you are intrinsically tied to the company whether you know it or not. If google or apple were to go under suddenly, its guaranteed that your phone would not work. If tesla were to tank, your car would certainly develop problems. My point is its pointless fixating on these issues. Its a possibility but unlikely for the reason that if there is indeed an escrow situation, in the vast majority of cases someone takes over and services are restored. You are still using SONAR and its services, more than 5 years after the company tanked aren’t you? If that isn’t a good example I don’t know what is. Bottom line is if this scenario is not acceptable, then you should consider something else that uses the old desktop software model and isn’t connected to web services.

  6. https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/911-operator-585edd I miss the free Epic Games posts that used to be here. If it is considered too far afield I will cease. I keep forgetting to check every week and I liked the reminder. I bought 911 Operator a few years ago on Steam and I really like it. You can set the city map to any real city in Open Street Maps. I actually worked nights as a 911 dispatcher when I was a college student. I won't compare this to reality (for one thing, back then our maps were on paper), but it is fun.

  8. Cakewalk does use ASIO. In fact, it is recommended. You just don't have a real ASIO driver. You need to get a real audio interface.

  9. Installed. Then quickly uninstalled. I definitely didn't find this virtual ukulele makes the cut -- or even comes close. [EDIT: For some reason I put in mandolin sample libraries instead of ukulele samples. Oh well...] If someone is looking for a vastly superior free mandolin sample library, Spifire has one for their free Labs Player that is vastly superior, there's another library for Decent Sampler called Stella Mandolin and, for those who own the full version of KONTAKT, Edu Prado has a free mandolin library. https://labs.spitfireaudio.com/mandolin https://www.decentsamples.com/product/stella-mandolin/ https://sounds.eduprado.com/products/extended-mandolin-bits-free

  10. Can't confirm "exact" but it basically was from what I recall. This product has been available to demo for a long time or free for complete users. There is a lot inside. Once they get the NAM loader rock solid this could be a force to recon with. Wish you could drop TONEX in the stack, that would make it insane

  12. Sorry mates. I've been meaning to at least sign back in but didn't find the time until a search about Z3t4 and Rapture Pro brought me right back. LOTS happened (including the long overdue computer upgrade) but nothing negative.

  14. I think it's more important to point out that an EA is a candidate for final release, not a beta. As such, it should be quite solid and stable but it's always possible that a new feature has issues with a certain workflow or project configuration that was not encountered by the beta team or that some change introduced a regression in related functionality. I would therefore advise that EA users who encounter problems should review the list of fixes/features in the EA release post to see if there's anything there that seems even remotely related to the issue they're having. If the code that governs the functionality they're using hasn't been touched, it's highly unlikely the issue is new and specific to the EA release, and it should be reported in the generic Feedback thread instead of the EA release thread or - better yet - posed as an open question to the community to see if non-EA adopters can reproduce it. It's human nature to attribute "new" problems to recent changes, and being aware of correlations like that is an important part of troubleshooting, but you have to take care not to jump to conclusions.

  22. In the description of MGA, I found this: MGuitarArchitect contains all MTurboAmp and MCabinet devices. Therefore the users who already own any of the named above can upgrade to MGuitarArchitect at a significantly better price. I can find it no cheaper than the $105 intro price. I have MTA and MTC. Will have to send in a email for some clarity.

  27. I suppose I might give it a shot, but, very candidly, I installed one of their plugins years ago and thought it sounded very poor. In fact, I've just never heard anything from this developer that sounds good to my ears. Is there something someone feels that they excel at?

  30. Let’s go back to 4 tracks of magnetic tape and splicing, bouncing down tracks to get another track for recording, reduced SNR, head realignment. Yeh it was exciting and what we had to do to get the best sound possible at that time. You had to re-record as there was no practical alternative. Digital technology has opened the door to creativity, making it available to more people who don’t have to be electronics technicians to operate the equipment. Access to technology doesn’t make them better musicians but owning a 4 track didn’t make you a star either. In the end, good music will find a way to be heard. There was always bad music too. Mozart was a genius in his time but I bet there were others we’ve never heard of simply because they didn’t get the opportunities or their music stank.

  31. I'm not so sure @JohnnyV 🙂 ... it's so easy to dismiss the next generation (my dad came of age in the mid-fifties and still says anything from the sixties onwards 'isn't music' 😀) But the scenes I'm involved in (not pop - more jazz, funk, all sorts of electronic and yes ... even a little hip-hop) are full of bewilderingly amazing players, plus many who can't really play instruments in the traditional sense but still create fantastic (at least for my taste) music. It's also full of DJs, but they're an equally valuable part of the scene and the musicians love the DJs as much as the other way around. Without the DJs and the promoters, the musicians have nowhere to play and it's also really fascinating to see how the musicians are inspired by the DJs and what a pivotal role they play. No one makes much money, most still have to keep their day jobs. But there's a huge community impact and there are organisations that are really improving lives (e.g. https://tomorrowswarriors.org/) which are a core part of this. When it comes to distribution, bandcamp has been a gamechanger. There are so many small independent labels run by people in their spare time with full rosters and a lot of A&R behind the scenes. The sales are low and they only just break even (this is not mainstream pop!), but I'm still a fan of the current state of affairs versus the days when a few 'majors' controlled everything. I don't need to tell anyone how hard it is to make money from music these days - up until a few years ago 'merch' seemed to be the new way to make it work, but now I hear even that's not breaking even - productions costs are high and money is tights for fans. But I'm still positive about everything that's going on and people who love music will continue to make and play music. More power to Cakewalk - long may it carry on for the players, the button pushers and the DJs - and I'm happy to pay 😀

  37. I already purchased PolyMax last year and own a handful of UAD and Spark plugins. Wasn't lucky enough to receive that sweet $99 deal 😔 I'm thinking $199 might be the best price for Creative Edition, unless BF/CM has something better. I think I'm gonna wait this one out.

  39. my guess is GR7 should have newer and fancier effects. It's always been a great effects tool. As someone who uses Mixbox a lot, I would say, it makes sense to get it if you are a user of TRacks. It's very handy to have access to those modules all in one slot. In my case, I am a big user I got pretty geeky with it. I would read the IKM manual and then I dig up other articles on the units it emulates and go in there and tinker to see what it all can do. . So I am familiar with the stuff I like to use. I have other stuff in my collection, but defer to Mixbox as its much lighter on CPU compared to some other stuff i have. YMMV.

  40. I basically feel the same way as you do Keni. I have loved my years with Sonar, starting with Sonar 6 and all the iterations after that including my Lifetime Updates that I purchased. CbB was great for me and I am excited for the future and to see what the new Next and Sonar are. When you do the math it could very well be "less than the total cost one double latte a week from your favorite coffee vendor per year," to continue using my favorite DAW. We all have an individual tolerance for ambiguity, some more, some less. I look forward to the future. Peace!

  41. You have been given all of the answers that can be given. Continually beating on it will not reveal anything new at this point in time. We are descending into getting stuck in a loop, and the beginning of thumbs down and FUD replies and reactions. Time to lock.

  42. The cynicism in this forum never fails to amaze me. Why on earth would we or any sane company in our field want to hold users' data hostage? You do realize that we are one of the only DAW's whose project files can be opened in pretty much any prior version of the app? Would we do that if we wanted to hostage projects? If someone really needed to, they could open their projects in any prior product like SONAR 8.5 and get most of the data out. We also plan to have free versions of all our apps so if users needed, they could use the free limited versions if they never owned a Cakewalk product ever. The bigger question to ask is why anyone who cared about their music in any capacity would not want to pay a reasonable fee to support the development of a product they use.

  43. What Lord Tim says is correct. An audio interface (like a Focusrite 2i2 or whatever) with ASIO drivers designed for that interface will improve the overall performance dramatically. He's also right about WASAPI and RealTek. However, if you use multiple programs, not all of them support WASAPI properly. So, following is a fallback approach, I assume you want to use the FL Studio driver because it doesn't shut down other audio on your computer, like ASIO4ALL does. So, uninstall ASIO4ALL completely. But FL Studio's driver was designed specifically for FL Studio. In theory, for other programs the performance isn't as good as ASIO4ALL in terms of latency and CPU load. If you have to use one or the other, ASIO4ALL may give you better performance with Cakewalk. But, that's a big if. Although some people have had success with ASIO4ALL, I know others who had a real interface with drivers for it, but had problems if ASIO4ALL was even just installed on their system. It's a kludge and while it's clever, it's still trying to fool your program into thinking Windows' native drivers are something other than what they are. With FL Studio, note that when you install or update, you have the option to check or uncheck the FL Studio driver. So here's the summary: Your best option is to get a quality audio interface with drivers designed for it. If you don't want to buy an interface, want to run multiple audio programs, and the Windows native drivers don't do the job for you, use the FL Studio driver. However, this will likely give worse performance with Cakewalk than ASIO4ALL. Use ASIO4ALL with Cakewalk and uninstall the FL Studio driver if you're willing not to use several programs at the same time, want better Cakewalk performance than with the FL Studio driver, and ASIO4ALL works in your system. Hope this helps...

  44. Thanks for the memory jog. Now you've got me reminiscing about all the neat synths René brought to the table: Pentagon, Triangle, Square and the Soundfont player. Pentagon and Triangle were great for beginners trying to wrap their heads around subtractive synth programming, because they had all the essential features while still keeping it simple. I just had a look at my plugin inventory, and to my surprise, I still have some of those installed! Check it out...all those knobs! And text I'd need a magnifier to read...
