  1. When you refer to Jay Graydon as an engineer, I'm wondering if you're aware of how legendary Jay is as a studio musician. For example, that's Jay Graydon's guitar solo on Steely Dan's "Peg." He's also played on (and this is a cut and paste from Wikipedia) songs by Gino Vannelli, Barbra Streisand, Dolly Parton, Diana Ross, The Jackson Five, Alice Cooper, Cheap Trick, Al Jarreau, Christopher Cross, Ray Charles, Cher, Joe Cocker, Marvin Gaye, Hall & Oates, Wayne Shorter, Olivia Newton-John and Albert King. Greg/Orange Tree Samples works with Jay. I don't know if I'm allowed to tell this story, so I'll withhold the artist's name -- but when I first heard the library, I was chatting with Greg and started telling him how much hearing the library reminded me of a certain artist's music from years ago (because a lot of it used this Rhodes; which Jay happened to play guitar on some of those songs too) and Greg told me how he was just helping that artist get set up with the library the day before. So yeah, the Famous E library is a pretty big deal and a bunch of the artists who I connect with that iconic Famous E sound that already own the library.

  2. I have been using CbB for almost 2 years now. While making a Piano Roll tutorial for beginners, I figured out a lot of stuff that blew my mind. So, I suggest even the experts to take a look. Cheers!

  3. @Starship Krupa thanks for your analysis of the original problem. These are exactly the issues we fixed that have been around for about 20 years. We have literally had hundreds of support calls and reports about this over the years. Even though it was a huge PITA to fix I decided to do it since I was making similar changes for synth port naming which was potentially an even worse issue with multi-out synths like Kontakt.

  4. It's probably more to do with your audio interface / audio interface driver. When the PC wakes up from sleep, the status of everything (including the audio interface driver) is restored. However if the actual status of your audio interface mismatches what the driver thinks it is, you'll get these sorts of issues - at worst you could get a crash. You could try turning the engine off then back on again within Cakewalk to see if this solves things: The only other alternative is to save your project and close Cakewalk before putting your PC to sleep.

  5. It doesn't seem like any of the people who begged for the port naming to be corrected have chimed in here. The OP and the other people complaining can't see how this change would help anyone, so I am here to enlighten you with some background, the justification for doing this. I say "corrected" because I have an interface that has 8 inputs on the front. They are labeled 1-8. They are not labeled left, right, up, down or anything else. As follows, this is how my inputs 3 and 4 were displayed to me in Cakewalk: Left FirePod ASIO x64 FP1 - Input 3L Right FirePod ASIO x64 FP1 - Input 3L Stereo FirePod ASIO x64 FP1 - Input 3L Tell me which of those inputs is 4 and which is 3. Then tell me how long it took you to figure it out. If the answer is longer than "instantly," then having a "4" that corresponds to input 4 on my interface is an improvement. Whatever input you think it is, notice how the numeral 4 appears nowhere in any of the choices. The second choice in the list is labeled both "Right" and "L." My interface has no "stereo" inputs either, it has 8 mono ones, so "Right and "Left" and "L" are useless unless I am going to look up at the interface and count them from left to right instead of just seeing the correct number on the screen. I don't mind Cakewalk grouping them to indicate what inputs will be tied together for recording stereo tracks, but Input 3 on my interface is not a stereo input and there's no input labeled "3L." The thread below is one of my earlier requests on the subject, and I will tell you that since that time, I had one session where I was trying to record a vocalist and wound up with the singer's mic connected to "Left FirePod ASIO x64 FP1 - Input 3L" instead of "Right FirePod ASIO x64 FP1 - Input 3L." However, there was a mic plugged into "Right FirePod ASIO x64 FP1 - Input 3L," across the room in front of a guitar amp. The minutes that it took me to figure out why I could hear the singer at a low-amplitude thin sound, but tapping on the mic didn't do anything were verrrrry lonnng minutes. This came out okay in the end, after I apologized to the singer for the extra time I took running around looking foolish. There have been two other times when I was trying to capture live drums and at the end of the take, one of the 4 channels was flatlined because I armed the wrong input. They were just me recording ideas while I was practicing, but should serve to illustrate the kind of thing I was running into. Having your inputs mislabeled isn't just inconvenient, it can result in failures to get a good capture. Who knows if my singer would have performed better if he hadn't had to stand there while I ran around jiggling cables. It did actually bite me in the asterisk as I thought it might. So if you think making the change was "a bad idea," you're wrong. It was an excellent, necessary idea. It looks like the implementation isn't working for everybody, which in a feature like this is probably not unexpected. So as far as "it wasn't broken so why fix it," okay, maybe it wasn't broken for you. It's valuable to know that the new implementation isn't working well for everybody, and it looks like the developers are going to take steps to change it. Relax, I had to live with it the old messed up way for years. The new messed up (for you) way will likely be changed in 30-60 days. It seems like the preferred option is to allow suppression of the port numbers in friendly names. I'm sure they can handle that.

  6. Hi Folks, We're working on a new web installer for Cakewalk and add/ons. This will be a replacement for installation via BandLab assistant. This is a simple tool that downloads and runs the latest version of Cakewalk on your PC. Please download and try this installer and let us know in this thread if you encounter any problems. Note that if you are already on the latest version it will not update it. Note: If you already have cakewalk installed you can update directly from within the application by choosing Help | Check for Updates EDIT: The web installer has now been officially released. The link has been updated to point to the website directly where you can get it. Choose Download and then pick the Cakewalk installer instead of BandLab assistant. Thanks everyone for your feedback.

  7. Buying an instrument more for it's history than a real need. Now that's a true deals forum spirit! 🤪

  8. Nah, that's absolutely the last one. For now, anyways... 😎 But I did get 3 libraries for the price of one!!! $537.00 > $174.71. First timer here. Did the group buy with two orders: 1. First filled out a few OTS surveys for Orange Slices. Then bought 2 Evolution guitars for 60% off, plus the slices from the surveys. 2. Got some more slices added from purchase #1. Bought a 3rd library for another 60% off, plus more slices.

  9. Some do indeed, like Angelic Keys for instance, or the Jaco bass. But it is clearly marked.

  10. Alright. I finally caved in on the Famous E when I realized I could get it for $56 with the group buy 60% off, plus some Orange Slices from my previous purchase.

  12. For sidechaining, I use the aforementioned MCompressor, from the Meldaproduction FreeFX bundle. There's a thread here in Deals that describes how to upgrade it and the 36 other plug-ins to their deluxe versions for about $10. Sale lasts another couple of days. But it works just great in its free state. The sidechain detector in MCompressor has an EQ so that you can filter selected frequencies, which is great if you have a complex signal and only want to duck the bass or whatever.

  15. I liked Z3TA+2 - it was great synth and for that time it was great cheap software alternative for Access Virus TI synth. To be honest I personally do not wait for re-release older synths like Dimension, Rapture... There is a lot of going on right now on the market for any kind of software synths, plugins and all technology. In 2006-2010 those old synths was groundbreaking and really incredible - but now when exists Omnisphere 2, Spitfire BT Phobos, Serum, Massive X... its pointless, at least for me. I would much more appreciate if in future there will be some new integrated to Cakewalk advanced sampler like in Ableton, Cubase and that new sampler from Logic.. It would be great to easy manipulate with audio - stretch, transpose, detune, warp, loop, chop etc.. its great technology and its very creative thing. Also I would like to see some new ProChannel module - or at least re-releasing those Concrete Limiter and other great modules. ProChannel is so powerful thing - absolutely love it!

  16. I am off on a bit of a different path again. This is a laid back, kind of early 1960's pop ballad song. At least that was the attempt of this number. The subject of this song is just having an imaginary conversation with a past memory. Not that he is unhappy or regretful but he is just enjoying a pleasant memory, As always any comments, suggestions, etc. will be appreciated. I hope you enjoy. DO YOU REMEMBER? https://www.soundclick.com/artist/default.cfm?bandid=963481

  17. I have a vague memory of there being some garbage collection when closing a project when it comes to orphaned patch points. Does that ring a bell for anyone?

  18. you have to change the icon in the file, save it as a "normal" project file, then rename the extension to .cwt instead of .cwp. otherwise the image embedded will not change. if you open a .cwt file and a .cwp file you can see how the header of the file in the cwp contains a large MIME encoded image in the first part of the file, whereas the cwt files have the image embedded further into the file which is then used when you save the template-generated project as a cwp. here's the sequence: new (or existing project or project from a template you want to modify: add your image save as a "normal" project file rename .CWP as .CWT copy or move the file into the project templates folder when you open the start screen and select new project, you should see the template with the image if you want to change an existing image - use the RED X to remove then add a new image, remember to resave as CWP and RENAME to CWT

  19. In a recent post Glenn Stanton described a solution where you can use any icon you want in a template without having to include magic words in the file name. After adding the image you simply save as a normal project and then change the file extension to cwt. I tried it out and it seems to work flawlessly. See his post here:

  20. Seems you stumbled upon another one of the hidden laws of start screen icons. 🥜🥜 The 4-track, 16-track and basic template icons is "unique" for some reason. You can't change the name. You can with the Guitar Amps and Vocals. Then there's the situation where you happen to delete one of the unique ones. I tested this by moving it to another folder and then using Vocals.cwt and rename it to Basic.cwt. It did not produce the Basic icon. I then tried this on Guitar Amps and renamed Vocals.cwt to Guitar Amps.cwt which produced a nice new Guitar Amps icon. I'm sure there's more hidden gems? like this that we don't know about. 🥰

  22. It looks like all of the "Evolution" products priced at retail $179 (and the Famous E) are Player and NKS ready. The other OTS libraries priced for less seem to all require FULL Kontakt.

  23. From the webpage: Well, this E Piano thing would be my first OTS purchase. Everyone seems to rave about it, even Jeff Lorber! So if you buy this E Piano, it enables you to play like the demos too, right? 🤪

  24. Love the delay on those early chords, if you really focus you can hear the notes naturally decay to nothing. I also really liked the panning at around the 4:00 minute mark. Great track to zone out to. Andy

  26. @Milton Sica I have reported about a possible error and asked if others have the same error when performing the same operations. This is to confirm that there is actually a problem (since I can't fully isolate it considering that it occurs in a very strange way). A situation therefore completely different from what you quoted. However a little ago I also added the video of the problem, which I had not been able to upload previously. Now it is clearer what is happening. Thanks to all

  30. Interesting concept! The easiest concept (and the one I'd prefer) would obviously to just include track parameter changes in the normal undo history. No check boxes to check, no undo histories to select. Ah well, I'm just beating a dead horse here... 🐴 But out of curiosity, I think I will start investigating how many other DAW's don't support undo of a simple volume change of a track.

  33. As stated by Spectrasonics themselves: ”The story of the “E” name comes from one of these instruments Eddy modified that was often rented from Leeds Musical Instrument Rentals during the heyday of record production in the 1980s. The top producers knew which one to rent because it was marked with a big “E” on the case. This is not the instrument we sampled for Keyscape, but ours was made at the same time and has the identical circuitry and voicing modifications that Eddy did to that specific Leeds instrument. As the “E” legend has grown on the Internet over the years, what’s not widely known is that Eddy made several of these identically modified instruments after various L.A. session players requested the same modifications. Our instrument was a 1974 Suitcase that Eddy extensively modified … “ And the OrangeTreeSamples Famous E is THE original one. Here’s another interesting tidbit by the engineer (Jay Graydon): http://jaygraydon.com/The_Famous_E_Electric_Piano.htm

  35. There might be some licensing issues with DP/RP as much of the content was created by third parties who licensed to Cakewalk. These rights might not transfer to Bandlab. I'd like to see Pentagon come back, 64 bit VST3, with the bugs fixed. Maybe support import of standard wav files.

  37. The installer can not handle unicode characters in the path, so it doesn't find the update.exe file in the path containing an "á" character from my (user) name. After installing it, I lost windows 10 system volume control above cakewalk. The volume of cakewalk remains at maximum, even if I mute Windows volume. I have focusrite Scarlet 18i20 3rd gen. I installed the rollback setup, but I the problem still exits. Ferenc Pávai

  44. Infectious vibe on this, super melody and you and your bgv's are delivering the goods as usual. The mix really needs work in some low eq spots, to be honest, the strummed acoustic guitar and snare are both pretty weighty, thick, and heavy down below 500hz. You'd brighten the whole thing up by doing some selective cuts down there to those two. Superior songwriting, your tunes just hit me right. Kind of like The Samples in the groove quality. You know, the band The Samples, not just . . . samples. cheers, -Tom
