  3. Huh?? They expect us to actually make music with these plugins?? 🤪 (Actually, the timing is really good. I'm literally just finishing up the first song I've written in years... Not that anyone cares. 🙂 )

  6. But back to the younger demographic...I do seminars to at places like MTSU, where the demographic is entirely college age. They're very enthusiastic about the subjects covered in the seminars. They like having their learning process shortened, because they can learn from my mistakes, or gain from my experience. When I talk about Cakewalk, they're responsive. They just don't know about it, or this forum. When forums were the only game in town, sure, that's where you had to go, and participation reflected that. Now there are so many online places to learn things. I just posted an Instagram video on how to create a cool preset in Helix, and it got 2,400 views - more than it would get on the Helix forums. Yet, the Helix forums are the go-to place for deep information, and participation seems to cut across a variety of age groups. There's nothing inherently wrong about like-minded people congregating in the same place, except that given all the competition for attention, it's unlikely that others will stumble on some place by accident that they might want to know about. But, let's not look at the past through rose-colored glasses, either. When this forum was at its peak in terms of attendance, there were a LOT of whiners, spammers (kitchen cabinets in Manchester, anyone?), crazies, and the noise-to-signal ratio was high. The Cakewalk forums were pretty civilized compared to many other places, but in its current incarnation, the crazies are pretty much gone. I still have my Sound, Studio, and Stage forum, which has been in continuous operation for over 25 years. It has nowhere near the participation it once had, but that gives a certain freedom to discuss anything, and not have to deal with crazies. Some of the information in there is pure gold, like a guy who said that he no longer needs to wear headphones when tracking vocals, because he uses a figure-8 pattern mic, and points the null toward the monitor. It really does work, but I would not have considered checking it out without reading his post. Once you record vocals without headphones, you might never go back. Perhaps the biggest problem with forums is lurkers. Lurkers in my forum outnumber posters by 10 or 20:1, and even more. I posted a thread once asking why people didn't participate. One guy said "I feel like I'm attending a panel discussion with smart people, and I have nothing to add." I can't imagine someone saying that on TikTok

  7. I think that I've finally narrowed my plugin collection down to a nice round number. When I started Cakewalk today, the plugin scanner said I only have 100 plugins now... 🙄 Whooops! Misread that earlier... it's actually 1000 plugins. 😁

  8. It really should read "Cakewalk Deals powered by CC LARRY." He is our guy. When he left us for a while, not to exaggerate, but it was terrible, horrifying and pretty much, all hope was lost until he returned. That said, I saved a lot of money.

  17. I did qualify. But it was not a moment of weakness. I thought about it for quite a while before I pulled the trigger. Reading and the users here tell their stories of how they use it convinced me I would get some use out of it.

  20. EDIT: Final mix is in this post! Hey everyone! Sorry, I've been out of circulation for a while. A little matter of quadruple bypass heart surgery. 😳 But I'm doing great and am back with a new song. This is a rough mix; still missing a harmonica part. But I'm soliciting advice on how to mix this. So many of the parts are busy, or dirty - I even applied a little distortion to the voice. (Black Keys FTW.). But does the mix need more clarity? Or is it good to sound swampy? Let me know your thoughts, thanks. https://soundcloud.com/barry-seymour/sneakin-up-on-the-blues

  24. "Taikos Not Included" Westwood Instruments continue to produce some very interesting libraries and this one is no exception. Using recordings from their earlier Untamed series libraries, these harness the percussion side of the stringed instrument family by presenting the knocking, tapping and other techniques to provide a unique percussive experience. Powered by the FULL Kontakt engine, Percussion Untamed comes with 200 MIDI loops that give you lots of options to start. These MIDI loops can also be used in your DAW by Dragging and Dropping them into your track. Percussion Untamed is currently $19 during their intro period ($29 after June 17th). For more info visit Westwood Instruments here: https://westwoodinstruments.com/instruments/percussionuntamed/

  26. Good point. If I have the improvements I might just sit on this for awhile. I don't enjoy handing money out for no good reason. The only thing I can think of there is maybe one or two plugins crossed over with something else I bought. Heck I'll just delete the multiples. If I have duplicates it can't be more than a few.

  30. Your ears are true; I went into the drum mixer and panned stuff out from the center, including the snare. Toms were added manually to a separate track. "High pass" as in reduce the treble, or increase it? And to which guitar, the backing guitar or the solo?

  31. I have 100's of different projects and this will not help me. While this works for you, it doesn't work for me. I work with the same snap settings (Set and forget) for all my projects and having to set them all the time is becoming a royal pain in the *****. Can't there be a global settings, and a override or remember state in the projects settings for people like youself?

  32. I'm hearing it ok. I do think I'd high pass the guitar pretty hard Barry; there's a lot of low mids there. For some reason the snare is "hotter" in the left can here, (could be my ears though...). Like that move to the IV chord, brakes the 12 bar up nicely! As always well crafted, you always deliver. t

  35. Well, yes... unless they're forced to update to stay compliant with the most recent changes in Windows 10 policies. The whole point of my previous post was that today there's no right way for those who prefer to install software and do not poke with it later. One and half year after I upgraded to Win10 slowly I'm becoming exhausted having to constantly pay attention whether I should update the plugin or not, because developer says it's an important update. It takes too much effort always having to check forums and articles before doing an update just to make sure that I'm not falling into trap - most recent examples are AIR and AAS updates - not saying they're directly related to Win10 forced updates in this case, but if I didn't hunt for the right info in the first place, I would regret a quick jump on the update. Didn't want to make it sound too dramatic but life was much more easy before Win10 . Or maybe it's just me.

  41. I think what people are concerned about is not where Cakewalk is now, but that possibly the direction they might go in is toward a cloud-based app. so you would need to be online to use it. I see no evidence that things are moving in that direction. but I understand the concern, as so many other things are going in that direction.

  42. I use media monkey. I also tend to include a photo from the session. Nice and small, but good enough to look nice in a phone screen or car display. How cars display tags matters. Titles cannot be too long or car displays don't show them well. I bought media monkey gold a long time ago. It was money well spent. I use it on my phone too.
