  6. The only time this has happened to me was when I had a disk failing. I've been using Cakewalk stuff for decades and never had this happen other than file corruption on a dodgy disk. I can definitely say that it absolutely SUCKED losing files and having to rebuild things before I realised what was going on, however. 😑 Like Bill said above, I have to ask though, who did you ask for help with this? You only have one post (the OP), which means it hasn't been anywhere here on the forum, and there's a LOT of very knowledgeable and helpful people on here that could have given you some great advice. I'd start with a disk scan first and work backwards from there. If that comes up clean, I'd still suggest troubleshooting with a different disk for your project files to rule that out entirely.

  7. Honestly, it sounds like you have a bad HDD that is about to die. If I were you I would urgently back up everything. In over 20 years of using Sonar/Cakewalk, I've never once had corrupted audio files. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you have not posted on this forum before and only joined it a few hours ago, so who are you referring to when you say "no one seems to be able to fix the issue". I hope I'm not feeding the troll...

  8. as per Fleer's intuition 🙂 What I find strange is we actually waste lots of time by messing around. ....let's just put this (plugin) on, than this, great it sounds better, than this... fiddle more, than more.. almost always sounds better, right, at least louder - louder is better... than fiddle some more, adjust fiddle again. Then I take everything away, and if level matched I almost always prefer the original. We loose so much especially with, De-Brethe, De-plause, de-ess, de-this, de-that = de-stroy! I find this especially true for the vocals, presuming they are well recorded in the first place. For all that ''wasted' time experimenting with the plugins I could have just gone through the original (edited) vocal track and make the required automation (or cuts- fades) for the relevant vocal elements. Same time spent = much better final result. But is it more fun than fiddling with the plugs? no way... just way more hard work = better results. But hold on aren't we the big boys with the toys, just love to be at play 🙂.?. SO here comes Larsy again with his another deal, we grab the 'virtual 'wallet, get the fix... and enjoy our play in our custom 'virtual' playground... finally! Seriously though... I always ask myself what is the reason for me destroying that lovely sound of my expensive mic, boutique pre amp and great compressor chain that I used at the tracking stage?

  12. Does it appear in the Command Center? Did you not save and backup all your files from the CCC download folder back when Gibson gave us the boot? These files are worth a lot of money and it's best practice to have them all backed up to a few safe locations. I certainly wouldn't count on those old Sonar servers being around forever.

Most of the time the updates are only a pain, time wasted, settings reverted, some unnecessary cloud play things (child stuff), ... If I had the chance to choose, I would still use the first Windows 10 version!

  18. In addition what @John said, if you use the right click menu to insert a new track, you can select one track in the same breath to define where the new track has to be inserted. I like to use it that way, because often you do not want the new track to be added to the end.

  20. I am not clear on why this new option is even necessary. If you DO want the notes in the staff view to snap to a given note value, turn on the Global Snap and choose the value. If you DO NOT want the staff view to follow the the Global Snap settings, turn off Global Snap. Another question I have is why would anyone not want the snap function to work properly in the staff view? I've been using the staff view successfully for some 25 years and when the snap function became dysfunctional it was a real pain. But now, since Bandlab has fixed it, I have no idea why someone would not just leave it alone and use the staff view with, or without, the global snap button turned on or off. I myself just leave it on and leave it set to either an eighth or a sixteenth note. If I need to enter triplets or 32nd notes I quickly change the snap value. It's quick, it works. What is the issue? 23. There are over three dozen major fires going in Oregon and even more than in Washington and California (not to mention the states that border these!). I think Mother Nature is punishing the West Coast (Left Coast?) for it's idiotic politics... Check out this Government Fire Map! Like Kenny, I can barely see across the street and the sun is just a little red circle in the sky! There's finally a REAL reason to wear a mask if you have to be outside... We have some clients that have already evacuated and others that are prepping (we're working to make sure they're backups are safe - I do IT consulting). Between my business partner and I, we have several friends and relatives that have evacuated. The statistic that blew me away (I'm not sure I agree with the "Worst Air Quality on the Planet one, I've seen parts of China on video!), is that 10% of the population of Oregon has been evacuated! (Over 500,000 people.) There was a rumor going around that Antifa was starting the fires (they did double in number over night), but this was primarily due to a fake social media account that got created. This rumor has been well OVER debunked with all sorts of media (including Snopes) saying it's just not true. I believed this too until I learned a few things... There was a 37-year old female from Selenas California that was arrested for starting fires (no known Antifa affiliation), then a 36-year old male from Puyallup Washington (who DID turn out to be an Antifa member), plus they were looking for a guy "with a black German Sheppard and a green SUV" who was seen starting a fire. Now, that still didn't convince me until I heard from an ex-business partner in Willamina Oregon who witnessed some youths get arrested with "incendiary devices" on them, a client who was listening to a police scanner in Molalla Oregon about police chasing four to five cars of kids throwing Molotov cocktails, and a guy who used to be on my dart team posted a video (since removed by the censorship of Facebook) showing the arrest of one of occupants in one of those cars... Now I'm not convinced there isn't a connection... Even without any organized affiliation, people that are starting fires should have all the punishment possible! There are at least four towns in Oregon (Detroit, Pace, Talent and Phoenix) that simply no longer exist! I have no idea what the death count is up to by now (more than 20), but MILLIONS of acres of land have burned (to give an idea of the scope, it's more than the entire size of Wales' 8,002 square miles!). Of course, as much as most of the population just wants to get the fires put out and then figure out how to start over, the idiotic people that somehow got elected to run things are, naturally, trying to politicize things... After repeatedly saying that the Federal government should stay out of all the "Left Coast" states, the governors are now begging for help (while complaining that it's coming too late - more "Trump's fault!" B.S.) - oh, and they're also using this as proof of Global Warming! Really???! Facts mean nothing to these people and they should all be put in a hole if you ask me. (Ah, I forgot to mention some of the mishandling of fire resources where some units were allowed to be lent to other places because they pay more and, therefore, became unavailable when they're OWN neighborhoods needed to be evacuated! Wow... I hope they get all these fires out soon with minimal more destruction and impact on people! We just had a very welcome change in the weather that should help.

  25. Some of the most common and complex problems that arise when using a DAW (digital audio workstation) are issues relating to plug-in compatibility. At Cakewalk we take plug-in compatibility problems seriously and all reported issues are investigated. It is however impossible for us to test thousands of plug-ins in Cakewalk. While we follow best practices for VST compatibility, handling plug-in's can be complex since many vendor's do not test their plug-ins in all hosts, and there can be subtle or not so subtle (crash) behavior changes across plug-ins running in different host's. Before drawing conclusions on the cause of a plug-in related fault, its important to properly collect information that can assist with diagnostics. If you encounter an issue with a plug-in here are some tips to diagnose it. Identify the kind of problem. There are a few kinds of issues: Compatibility issues. While this can be wide its important to try and isolate whether the problem appears within the plugin or the host. e.g do you notice the problem in the plug-in UI, does it occur with only certain presets, does the issue occur when loading the project or when exporting audio, etc. Crashes. This is self explanatory but its critical to observe whether the crash report indicates that the crash in within the host program or within the plug-in DLL. The crash dialog will typically list the module that the crash occurs in in the title. If a crash occurs please save the Minidump for the crash since it is the only way for developers to diagnose the issue. Hangs. In a few rare cases a plug-in can cause the host to hang. If a hang occurs you can still capture a dump file while the app is hangling, though it may be a lot larger. Project specific problems. These are cases that result in unexpected behavior only with certain project files. Diagnostics and action If the plug-in crash is listed as happening within the plug-in DLL the first course of action is to contact the vendor of the plug-in. The reason for this is in many cases the the issue is caused by the plug-in running into an unexpected operation from the DAW that can only be fixed by the plug-in vendor. Every DAW is different and unless the plug-in has been specifically tested with a DAW there is a potential for unexpected bugs being discovered. If the crash occurs in the host program (Cakewalk.exe is shown in the crash title) then one possibility is that the host ran into an unexpected condition. This should be reported to Cakewalk. It's important to note that not all crashes in the host are caused by the host. Plug-ins share the same memory space as the host program and as a result of buffer overwrites can corrupt memory, leading to random crashes or app shut-downs. In all problem cases the best way to report it is to provide the following details to all vendors concerned. Write a detailed description of the problem Include a zip file containing the project in which the problem occurs Include all minidump's if the plug-in causes a crash. Please read this for more information on how to capture a minidump In some cases Cakewalk will assist and work with the plug-in vendor to get a resolution to a problem. If you send a problem report to a third party vendor you may also refer them to contact us through our support channel at support@cakewalk.com should they have technical questions or require internal follow up with us.

  28. I know the Eternal Madness sales are every week - and they are a great way to pick up a Melda plugin for 1/2 off. We all know the drill by now. https://www.meldaproduction.com/ But of particular note this week is MDrumEnhancer - at least to me. There are lots of drum replacement plugins out there, but I never see this one talked about for some reason. It's one of the pricier plugins, so I've never really looked at it either until recently. I got to tried it out during the 3 month Covid Subscription of the MCompleteBundle that Melda did. And I must say, I really liked it! I'm also pretty certain, as with most Melda plugins, that I've barely scratched the surface on what this thing can do. https://www.meldaproduction.com/MDrumEnhancer As an example, here's a mix from my SoundCloud page where I used it. These tracks have been around for a long time, but I finally got around to mixing them. (Not trying to push my mixing, but I am trying to push MDrumEnhancer because I really liked how the drums came out on this one. 🙂 ) Tiptoe Through the Crypto by Turkuaz It's certainly worth demoing if you're in the market for a drum replacement/enhancing plugin., and it's 1/2 off right now for $88. (Still kind of steep!) I'd also be REAL interested to hear from anyone with experience with MDrumEnhancer vs (the other options). i.e. Slate Trigger, PA's SPL DrumXchanger (meh IMHO), or UVI's new Drum Replacer to name a few. Here's the shameless salesy stuff: First time buyers can get 20% off whatever they're buying if they use someone's referral code.* The "referrer" gets a 10% credit on their account. 32. you could use a "junction" (https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/16226/complete-guide-to-symbolic-links-symlinks-on-windows-or-linux/) to map a folder "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Multisamples" to a content folder on the S: drive. as far as the mapping of DLL & EXE, i think the normal location is in the "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\VstPlugins\Dimension Pro" - you could probably remove the others in the sample folders and rescan. or rename those DLL and EXE to DLL.REM and EXE.REM (so they're not found by the app) and rename them back if things break.

  34. Are you sure about this? There are a few plug-ins that pull double duty as regular VST2 plug-ins and PC modules. The CA-2A is one of them. Typically these plug-ins install in the regular VST folder. The predecessor to the CA-2A, the PC-2A was strictly a PC module and like all the plug-ins that are PC format only it installed in the internal folder.

I think it is a little pricey but It is very deep. I use roland pads and SD3 for most of my drums. MDrumEnhancerdoes allow me to get even closer/faster to what I want than any other method. Still debating it.

  41. Hi Support says the crash dump shows the VST3 version of Iota Mini caused the crash. VST3s often give problems, and can work with some people and not others. Windows. 🙄 If you haven't done it already, install the VST2 version of Iota Mini: Double-click on Iota Min (PC).zip Double-click on Iota Mini (PC) Double-click on PC Files Double-click on x64 Double-click on IOTA MINI WIN64 VST Click on Iota Mini.instruments Hold in the Ctrl-key and click on Iota Mini.dll (The .DS_Store file shouldn't be there) Ctrl-C to copy the file and the folder. Navigate to C:\Program Files\VstPlugIns\Iota Min (PC) Click on the Iota Min (PC) folder to select it. Ctrl-V to paste. You should see the instruments folder and the dll file in the Iota Min (PC) folder. Then disable the VST3 version: Run a VST scan. Then: Utilities -> Cakewalk Plug-in Manager In the left pane click on VST3 Instruments (VST3i) In the middle pane click on Iota Mini Below the left pane, click on Exclude Plugin In the left pane click on VST Instruments (VSTi) You probably won't see Iota Mini in the middle pane, so: Below the left pane select show excluded In the middle pane you should see Iota Mini Click on it Below the left pane click on Enable Plugin Iota Mini will disappear from the middle pane. Click on Show Enabled and you should see it in the middle pane. Close the Plug-in Manager Make sure you have a backup up of your projects. They will all have lost their Iota Mins because they were all the VST3 version Create new projects, add Iota Minis (they will be the VST2 versions) Do the copy and paste thing from the old projects Hold thumbs, you should be OK now. A good chance that the LABS was just incidental. Support ask that you contact them. Cakewalk Support Tell them you are Nicole with the Iota Mini VST3 problem, referred to them by Nigel.

  44. Essentially what you have here is the equivalent of walking into a fully kitted out recording studio. If you've never been in a studio before, how could you possibly expect to know how the patch bay worked, or how to set up the correct gain structures or any of those kind of things without learning how it works? And even if you are fairly well versed with a particular recording studio, walking into a different studio with different gear and set up puts you almost back at square one. Cakewalk is a professional program that gives professional results if you learn how it works first, which is why it can seem not user friendly - any complex thing like this must have the basics learned first. With that being said, I've helped a few people get started on this who have tried out other software packages in the past and after the initial getting to know how it all worked period, they all found things extremely easy compared to a lot of other apps. Like Millzy mentioned above, you can hide quite a lot of the more advanced stuff to concentrate on the things that matters to a novice user. By default, Cakewalk guides you to using the Basic workspace, which is far less busy and shows far less of the stuff that a seasoned user may need. If you're not set up to use the Basic workspace, you can learn about them HERE. But for obvious mandatory things like recording, opening and saving files, choosing instruments, etc, this is something that every DAW does more or less the same but also in their own way. You'll find a lot of fantastic tutorials, especially for new users, in the Tutorials section: https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/forum/35-tutorials/ THIS THREAD especially is a great place to start. I'd wager that after a couple of hours going through this stuff and trying things out yourself, a lot of the "what am I even looking at?" factor will just fall into place, and you'll be able to cruise along at your own pace for most things you'd want to do.

  45. This is a beautiful song that deserves to be heard. I'm reminded of the 90's band Live in the vocal department, which is good because I liked them a lot. I'm missing some degree of "punch" here and there for contrast, but overall, this song satisfies me. With an adjustment or two, this mix is on the edge of being stellar. Good work!
