  1. Set the preset, "Cryin." Use one finger or sometimes two to play legato. No key switches. Forget about everything and play. If you want to work in your DAW afterwards to add other articulations (harmonics, etc) and effects, it's easy to do.

  2. Hi @Alan Tubbs nice to see you here and thanks for SOS's support for Cakewalk over the years! Thanks for your insights. I fully appreciate the logistics of balancing editorial content with readership metrics In case you hadn't seen it here is a link to all the new features that we've done in CbB. Due to the volume of fixes recently it might look like we've been only doing maintenance but that isn't accurate. We've added tons of new features over the year that fully justify calling it a new product release. Since SONAR Platinum we actually stopped doing "new" products as opposed to a rolling updates timeline. I understand that can make it harder to pinpoint one release as a major one but if you look at any 6 month snapshot you will see several new features added. Some of the notable highlights over this year have been: ARA 2 support zplane élastique audio stretching and pitch shifting BandLab import and export (preview feature) Multi-clip slip stretching Comping and Take lane enhancements Smart tool customization Selection markers VST Scan Sandboxing

  3. This is a little tune that I wrote while on vacation last week. I actually did the whole thing on my tablet using the FL Studio Mobile app which I love ( I hope I don't get banned for admitting that 😀 )

  4. Check out RipChord - this is a freebie VST3 from Trackbout. It's like the chord portion of Cthulhu (no arpeggiator) but even easier to use. And there is a community of folks offering their chord presets for use in the program. Here it is: https://trackbout.com/ripchord

  9. The issue isn’t whether to use normalization or not and there are many great reasons to use it. It should work and not corrupt tracks and you should be able to normalize multiple tracks at once . Compressors and the like don’t substitute . If I record a full drumset and the levels vary slight between tracks I like to normalize all of them so the loudest hits are equal. I normalize to -5 and get great results. Same for overheads etc where there are pairs or multiple tracks that “go together” . After all this time it should get fixed

  13. My favorite music player app is Pulsar Music Player - Mp3 Player, Audio Player. When you click on shuffle, most music apps use an algorithm where some songs play a lot, and some songs very rarely or ever play. When you click shuffle with Pulsar it will take all the songs you have on your device, and create a random playlist, so every song will get played. I have a couple of thousand songs on my phone, and once it plays all the songs through, I just click shuffle, and it creates a totally new order. There is a free version, and a paid version. The paid version adds an equalizer. Other than that they are the same. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rhmsoft.pulsar&hl=en_US

  15. Actually, this is a really good idea. Even if the clip gain was tied to a normalization function, that would work really well. So you could "soft" normalize the signal to -3db, and it would automatically adjust the clip gain accordingly.

  16. In this day and age, Normalizing should absolutely be non-destructive. It would make sense to tie this into that Per-Clip "Static Gain" parameter I've been lobbying for. 😁 There are many cases (when mixing), where I'll use static gain changes (per clip) to even out a vocal performance. Yes, Clip Envelopes work... but it's slow (compared to a Static Gain/Normalize parameter).

  17. Normalization is still an essential process for narration (and often vocals) when doing phrase-by-phrase normalization, because of being able to assign to keyboard shortcuts and move super-fast compared to using clip envelopes. You also don't get the artifacts involved with dynamics processing. CbB's normalization is particularly useful because it doesn't force 0 as the limit - you can normalize to any level. The best workaround is to create a macro that bounces a clip to itself, and then normalizes, with one shortcut.

  19. Thanks for the great feedback and reports all. We now have an early access hotfix build available that fixes known reported problems so far. If you are affected by any of the issues listed go ahead and install the build. Its identical to the 07 release with just these changes. We plan to release the final hotfix a little later after we address a few more issues. Please continue to give us feedback on this release in this thread. New option to enable/disable setting the now time during playback via Track View Options > Click Behavior > Set During Playback @Walter Treppler and @btbrock this new option should allow you to switch back to your workflow.

  24. Looks like you have to be careful and select the most expensive of your target product as your initial purchase. There are some "nice to haves" but no essentials for me. The Leslie collections look interesting, but I have several other Leslie emulations already, same applies to the tape machines. I will sit on this for a while.

  28. Personally, if you complain about SOS, what's left to other magazines that write one article about Cakewalk every 10 years (like Mix or even MusicTech). Sound On Sound has almost every month a place for Cakewalk, covered by Craig Anderton. I've saved the link to my cellphone's main screen, and I share it with the community: https://www.soundonsound.com/techniques/software/daw/sonar-cakewalk

  30. In my family, I am the outlier Practically all the others, parents included, are lock step with the process, strongly so I have a nephew who was adopted from Guatemala I wonder how he feels, When we gather together, and practically the entire room chants with the chorus "Send them Back" No One else sees the irony but me He was lucky, and is here on a price, and was a random pick luck of the draw like you and me and the powers that be won't come to the table to hammer out a compromise because if they can divide they can conquer don't tell me there isn't a solution law, fairness, and what is right are not mutually exclusive nothing ever changes Great tune Lynn, I'm surprised you didn't start a riot. I like the horns. Is there a way you can tweak the attack on them so they sound less keyboardy? Love the guitar tone and the bass drum is very organic, almost "stereotypically" native, if you catch my drift, but very appropriate if that was the intentions.

  32. I think I did buy it when it was going for dirt cheap there before the end. And I don't regret paying for it either. I had it d/l on my Surface and then I transferred the d/l folder (with riffstation in it) to a removable drive!! So I couldn't find it because the removable drive wasn't hooked up. Duh!! BTW: I d/l it again!! LOL

  37. So you're asking for dialog windows that are currently so small that their contents (i.e. lists) are constrained and therefore hard to use because of the scroll bars that that list has to show in order to navigate the contents? And you'd like either the dialogs to be larger by default or at least re-sizeable? I can get behind that request.

  40. With Sound on Sound, that is total B.S. They run plenty of reviews from companies that don't advertise. You're also overlooking a very important fact about demographics. Advertisers advertise in a magazine because they believe the readers are the target demographic for their product. Similarly, magazines want to review products that are of interest to their readership. The two often coincide. Having edited magazines, the single, most important factor in success is to have readers. Otherwise, a magazine is of no value to advertisers. We'd often run articles that we felt would appeal to the readers, regardless of whether a company advertised or not. It brought up the number of readers for those companies that did advertise. Sound on Sound supports CbB every month, by publishing my column (which has run since Sonar was introduced). These cover the incremental improvements in a way that a once-every-few-years review cannot. This also proves my point regarding Bouwer's comments. Not only does BandLab not advertise CbB in Sound on Sound, it costs the magazine to cover CbB because they pay me to write the articles. But, they believe covering CbB every month is important to their readers.

  42. It most certainly does, at home on my awful internet 600mb takes 45minutes to 60 minutes and that's providing the connection sticks, might have to do a few resumes. At the Library using their wifi it takes about 7 minutes. I think in this case, as has been suggested, it is probably downloading in the background and the internet connection is slow.

  45. Saw when you posted this Lynn but never got a chance to listen until today. Good song. Was not expecting the '80's flavored break in there!! It sounded good and I liked it. Good vocal performance also. I wasn't expecting as much guitar soloing as you got in there. But it went well with the song. You never forced it. Mix was excellent as I am hearing your remix, so I would agree with you that this one is done. As a side note, listened twice to that eerie sounding song "Can't Wait". Beginning of it just caught my attention. Also listened to "I Must Be In Love" and your gtr solo work in that was excellent.
