  1. https://www.4-30pm.com/sound-lab/menu I had an early version of CHOSAT that they released for free, but the UI was broken. Still, I loved some of the presets. So happy to see them release an updated version.

  2. During the holidays, Epic Games gives away one free game every day, amounting to a total of 17 games. Each game is available for free for a limited period of 24 hours. The twelfth one is Saints Row. "Welcome to Santo Ileso, a vibrant fictional city in the American Southwest. In a world rife with crime, a group of young friends embark on their own criminal venture, as they rise to the top in their bid to become Self Made." https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/saints-row Gameplay video:

  4. IK Multimedia make excellent software products. They don't force any of us to buy what they have to offer, they constantly run promotions with insane discounts, they give users/buyers JamPoints for further discounts, which can be used towards hardware products. Sometimes they also offer free shipping. And last, but not least - they constantly work on creating new great products and improving the existing ones. Their business model might not please everyone, but as long as it works for them and enables them to deliver goodies - I'm going to support them with my money.

  5. I get that many here are generally against subscriptions (me included), but the current deal for Mega XXL is quite good. What puts me off a subscription is the idea that if I stop paying, I lose access to my past project. However, you get plugin vouchers with the Mega bundles; that makes it more like paying for a set of plugins to keep while getting full access to their catalogue. For reference, F29 (no longer available) costs $30 per plugin: $29 for the sub, $1 for the plugin. In comparison, Mega XXL yearly is currently $249.99 for 10 vouchers - $24.99 per plugin - while having a year's access to everything.

  6. It's hard to say. Should you try processing any UJAM Guitar instrument with your normal guitar plugins or, God forbid, with your outboard guitar gear, you might find yourself hard pressed to think it bears any resemblance with normal real guitar or a good guitar library. Having said that, I must admit that Sparkle outperforms new NI guitar libraries (Session Guitarist series) in terms of consistency. Don't take my word for it, here's an example of Sparkle 2 VS NI Session Guitarist. The latter sounds like each chord is recorded with a different instrument. Guitars.mp3 TL;DR It is worth $19 if you do a lot guitar mockups.

  8. The only way I would pay for WUP would be if one of the Wave plugins I use (mainly the Abbey Road ones) stopped working. Otherwise, I see no reason. Even then, I would explore buying a replacement plugin before spending money on WUP.

  9. https://www.thehomerecordingstudio.com/rubber-bridge-guitar/ Note: The library creator asks you to subscribe to his newsletter and confirm your email to get the free guitar, but clicking on the link in the email to confirm the subscription takes you to a ConvertKit log in / create an account page. Some have tried creating a ConvertKit account (and confirming that too), but still did not receive the freebie. So this one may not be worth the trouble.

It's good enough to have charged for. Grab all of this dev's freebies. https://www.xperimentaproject.com/preparato-piano-free/ Death Piano LE Another free version of a prepared piano library that I like a lot. https://www.productionvoices.com/free/ Analogue Drums Big Mono Kit https://www.analoguedrums.com/drumkits/big-mono/ Pocket Blakus - Free Cello Look around the VST Buzz site for freebies for KONTAKT, there are some nice ones there. There's a glockenspiel, I believe named Jonathan's Glockenspiel that's quite nice. Check out the Ivy Audio piano and other libraries. https://vstbuzz.com/freebies/pocketblakus-cello/ Performance Samples Cello, Violin -- grab all of their freebies https://www.performancesamples.com/pacific-solocellolegato/ Westwood Alt Piano -- an upright felt piano https://www.westwoodinstruments.com/alt-piano-lite-edition/ Musical Sampling Legato Trumpet This is a really nice free legato trumpet library. https://musicalsampling.com/trumpet-freebie/ Sonuscore Free Pipe Organ This is a free KONTAKT Player library, but just in case you don't have it, get it! https://www.sonuscore.com/shop/free-pipe-organ/ Keypleezer Upright Piano A character piano, slightly out of tune, but cool. https://keypleezer.com/free-upright-piano-for-kontakt/ Sinewave Lab Free Mellotron Library I'm in love with pianos, Wurlis, glockenspiels, celestes, drums, guitars, basses, cellos, Wurlis -- and Trons. https://sinewavelab.com/products/free-mellotron-library-for-kontakt/ SoundIron has some freebies that are fun, especially, believe it or not, the free Desk Bell library. Pianobook See my list for recommendations, because a lot of stuff is poor quality. You can use my list to find the best libraries there, and you can also look for high-rated instruments at the site, of course. The Quarantine and Isolation pianos are two that immediately come to mind as some of the best there. Pick up everything from Dan Keen (he does mainly string and piano libraries, and they're very, very good). https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/topic/65790-best-free-sample-libraries-for-kontakt-a-curated-list-of-recommended-libraries/

  12. I got a 2022 total with $299 as I purchased the voucher last year, and have upgraded to 2023 with voucher which is $150 for 14 plugins. This way costs less and will keep all plugins permanently, only need to wait a year for the latest plugins.

  15. Thanks for that. Appreciate it. Yeah, I suspected as much. Simple little freebies Uncle E has created to generate some hopeful sales. The collector in me thought it was worth a mass grab if all free at once. But barely. Thanks for the tips on the other stuff. I should have come over here years and years ago from KVR when Fleer quit there. The community is still alive and well here it seems. Appreciate your time and input PavlovsCat. Ding!

  20. Some general tips to avoid unexpected dropouts (in addition to the ones mentioned above): Outside of Cakewalk: 1. Ensure all of your Cakewalk project directories, and any "content" directories (e.g. where plugins load their samples from) are excluded from virus checkers. 2. Turn off any cloud-sync applications/services while Cakewalk is running. 3. Make sure Windows is up to date before you run Cakewalk. If Windows starts downloading/preparing updates in the background it'll kill your audio performance. It's not always obvious Windows is doing this, so I still get caught out by this one, wasting hours troubleshooting! The best thing to do is check for updates and allow them to finish before you open Cakewalk. 4. If you're using a laptop, consider disabling your WiFi adapter - some are known to interfere with audio performance. You can always turn it on momentarily to allow plugins to "phone home" if necessary. Within your project: 1. Avoid using lookahead plugins (e.g. linear phase) during tracking. Some linear phase plugins have an option to switch the linear phase part off - do this while tracking, and don't turn it back on until mixing time. 2. Consider sharing high CPU plugins such as reverbs by putting them on a bus 3. Some plugins, especially mastering plugins really eat up CPU. Consider creating a new project for mastering with just the stereo mixdown in it, and only use the mastering plugins there rather than on your "mix" project. 4. Either commit changes regularly (i.e. bounce to clips) and/or freeze tracks when you think they're in a stable state. If bouncing regularly, bounce without effects - but freeze with effects to free up resources.

  21. Looks like your using a high resolution monitor on a small screen. Good for games but not so much DAWs. For Windows 11, right-click the desktop and select Display settings Select the monitor your using if you have more than one. Scroll down to Scale & Layout > Scale Set scale to 100% or the recommended % Click on the Scale section to open Click on the Text size section to open Reset Text size to 100-120% using the slider Go back to Display settings Go to Display resolution and set it to 1920x1080 or whatever works best for your screen size.

  23. My main DAW is a desktop with a decent interface. However, there was a time where I would use my laptop to compose on during dead time, where I dropped one kid off at an activity and it's not worth it to do anything else but kill some time at a coffee shop. In these cases I might not have wanted to lug around a spare interface and didn't have a ton of USB slots to spare. On top of that I wouldn't want to bring my guitar with me and I doubt anyone in the coffee shop wanted me to sing, giving me no reason to need audio input. In that case ASIO4ALL was a perfect solution.

  24. In somebodies defense, sometime you just spent a huge whop on the PC/Laptop and a set of decent speakers and you think maybe I should give this music thing a try now that I have a decent computer setup. You know, give it a go before I invest even more money on specialized gear and peripherals. Just saying.

  28. Ext.Har stands for extended harmonics – a new free library made from two natural viola harmonics, sourced from the Iremia sessions. This is old school sampling at its best, taking a single sample and stretching it across the keyboard, except here you actually get two samples, so you can seamlessly morph from one to the other. It sounds distinctive, different, a little bit Nordic and somewhere between a flute, an organ and a cello. And it’s free… It's available from the front-page of the website, where's there's a short walkthrough video, in which I also talk about why these samples never made it into Iremia, demonstrate the difference between artificial and natural harmonics, and complain about the weather in Denmark...it's all good fun! https://payhip.com/b/HOR8r

  29. If you watch the video, you can hear what it sounds like. It's 3 samples stretched over a keyboard, so, there's an incredible gap between this little freebie and the dev's highly detailed viola sample library.

  30. @PavlovsCat thanks so much Peter - very kind of you! Native have sent links to some free Sonuscore orchestral instruments - wondering if they are worth installing. I think they may be getting on a bit now. I have Miroslav Philharmonik (also very old!), Garritan PO, BBC SO Core and now, of course, the Orchestral Tools instruments in the Kontakt Factory library so not sure I need those as well though the free Kontakt library GAS is going to be in full flow over the next few days!

  31. I didn’t know either, but I think $150 a year is the battle line for many plugins companies, they could keep this for next year with more than 10 new plugins. If I kept away from any new PA for 3 years, may buy another total bundle after that will be better. Recently I can hardly find any new plugins are so unique that must own.

  33. Don't blame @jngnz for IK devaluing all their products to the point of absurdity. By your own logic, the ~140 products in TS3.5 are now worth ~$1.50 each, and the 30 products in TS4.0 are worth ~$5 each. Of course, some products are more valuable than others. For example - I completely understand that TONEX MAX is 50% the cost of the TS4 $199 upgrade, since it's so indispensable and ground breaking, and will absolutely not be abandonware in 2 years. But, let's be honest here. Like most developers these days, milking existing customers for upgrades is highly profitable. Whereas, attracting new customers is expensive, and incentivizing them with dirt-cheap "total catalogue" products is where profits are lost. iZotope and Native Instruments have perfected this method. Get people into the ecosystem for cheap. Then milk them for upgrades. IK might be slightly better at this when it comes to "group buys", which is another dirt-cheap way to get new customers in and prepped for the milking. It's smart business in the short term. That 3rd point is intentional. Has been the case for years in products like Amplitube. Crippling software with "missing product" prompts is a sales tactic. Doesn't matter what it does to the user experience. You must be constantly reminded of what products you don't own. I'm sure IK borrowed this from mobile gaming. And, unfortunately, it works gangbusters in the gaming world. Surprised more audio devs don't use this tactic. Then again, those other companies probably care about their customers' experience lol.

  37. As per title. Download from here: https://id.korg.com/static_pages/3 Note: On their previous versions, on my PC and another here, Korg Software Pass would show the GUI for about half a second. Then it would close without displaying anything further or any error message. It was due to an incomparability between Korg Software Pass and the latest Microsoft Vdist Runtimes. Version 1.2.11 starts correctly.

Poke around in Preferences and you can uncheck the option to see offers. Corel Painter and Paint Shop Pro are similar. Bombardment with offers until you disable it, but disabling it works.

  44. Thanks as always folks. I did really jus want the fabfilter reverb-but the price for 3 (as mentioned above by me comp\EQ and reverb) is double so kind of 1 for free. Just as a note-You do NOT have to just use the AI featured with Izotope. Especially with the EQ and compressors. I most likely will do the fabfilter 3 bundle though. Maybe I can learn more and catch up to John V. with "standard processing tools"................😉

  45. I think compression is used too much nowadays, in fact I think it ruins songs on many occasions, the guide I think should always be, apart from other things, to use your ears and get the sound you want.

  46. Quick note, get in the habit of saving both project templates and (more importantly IMO) track templates when you put that much work into routing things that you may ever use in another project. Track templates are more ideal, because you can save multiple tracks that are project independent... so you can simply add a track "from template" and Cakewalk will insert all of the tracks, routings and busses that you saved. It will save you a lot of time going forward. Always, always save intricate routings as a track template.

  47. If you are referring to assigning external MIDI controller input, to say multiple VST MIDI synths, the method I most often use is creating a MIDI only track for input to each synth I want to control, and then selecting the same MIDI input (port, channel option, output, etc.) on each virtual synth setup, so that in effect, all the targeted synths are triggered from the same external input. -There are many other variations on that type of routing scheme, including as mentioned having "all" selected in the routing. Basically any MIDI instrument can have multiple MIDI tracks assigned to it, and any external MIDI port input can be assigned to multiple tracks as an input. Choices in the routing can seem confusing at first though, just remember each track, instrument, will have its own specific routing choices, and the various external controller setups have their own MIDI settings, and so forth.
