  1. What's not to like about a $12.50 plugin? I've got the SSL 4000 E, AMEK 9099, Crispytuner & Limiter True Peak in my basket at the moment. One click away from adding 4 fine products to my growing collection of unused plugins!

  3. I buy Plugin Alliance, but I also am not getting the Dirk love, hate relationship here today??? Oh well, just give me the 4 plugins... 😄 After looking at what I thought I needed to buy, I decide that I have all of the BX plugins I need. I'll pass on this offer.

  4. I’m not as involved on this forum as some others here, but why are people so down on Dirk? While PA’s constant sale mode (as in the case of Waves) can be pretty annoying, they’ve also released some pretty good plugins, at prices that would have been regarded as steals 5-10 years ago.

  5. Hello travellers. This last appeared on these forums back in April, originally created 2018 . . . remixing suggestions have been taken and appreciated, and now a vid. Would love any comments on any aspect of things, thanks! (stream @1440p if you can?) Soundcloud is also nice:

  9. Honestly it has no use especially in ASIO mode. Maybe we should just block it unless in MME or WASAPI shared.

  11. so, firstly, get your mind out of the gutter 🙂 one day i was sitting in my living room playing my acoustic guitar and the electricity went off. i really only noticed because all of the electrical appliances went quiet, which was nice. about 20 minutes later the power kicked back on. and my TV set and cable box turned on without sound. and it was a soap opera channel... there were two fabulous women on either side of a nicely dressed man, and the brunette was getting all the attention and talking, whilst the blond on the other side was looking for the opportunity to get a word in and get the man's attention. she just had this look on her face like "why aren't you coming on to me since i'm just as, if not more, attractive than the brunette"... i just started strumming a I - iim vamp and using my Neil Young impression, sang "come on to me" and it made me laugh, so i had to make a song about forlorn attention-getting on a social scene. of course, it could be misinterpreted so a group dance may be, erm, awkward... 🙂 major update - basically a complete re-do 🙂

  12. The title covers the topic of the song. Credit for the drum track goes to my dear friend Marcelo at homestudio kurumin on soundcloud. Everything recorded and mastered in Calkwalk by Bandlab. I think this falls into the category of folk rock (nice and easy). Piano & Organ, Bass, Vocals, Acoustic & Electric Guitars. Enjoy!

  13. I also struggle to understand why people get mad at software companies instead of apple when they intentionally flex their power by forcing developers to jump every few months to make plugins compatible.

  14. I'm quite surprised my comment was seen as so negative. The guy is called Dirk, he's constantly trolling with his deals and changing conditions. So "dirk move" is a bit of a pun, nothing more. I found it quite ironic, that he leaves the company with a deal while suspending the monthly voucher in the process. I do have my problems with him though. I am a member of his facebook group and his actions there were more than questionable. He published private messages of complaining users to openly ridicule with his crownies. I am not a fan of the word toxic, but that behavior IMO clearly qualifies.

  20. Tom you had fun making all the references, when you got the to Ensoniq and the floppy disk it remined me of something I heard on a program a couple of days ago. A PFY (Pimply faced youth) asked when he saw a 3 & 1/2 floppy "Why did someone 3D print the save Icon." Cool tune, nice mix.

  23. I got roped in at the same time you did, Peter - about a 100 bucks or so. The demos sounded amazing...but that's a Troels skill and not a me skill. Steven's point about the Spitfire strings is spot-on.

  24. Hi Peter, I agree with a number of points/issues you've raised. One of the problems I've had with 8dio is as you say "I find that the quality is all over the board". Being that various Spitfire libs (Originals Intimate Strings, Originals Epic Strings) were recently on sale for $17 and still sell at $29 - I don't know if this 8dio collection is really even a contender.

  25. I want to add this walkthrough of the raw sounds from this library to folks a very good idea how the library sounds. If you're considering this library-- and it's really a large group of solo string libraries-- I strongly recommend giving this video a listen first. The person the video isn't playing anything interesting, so it's musically boring, but it is an accurate representation of what the strings in this library sound like without any effects. It's not an influencer promoting the library, it's just someone playing the various patches dry, without effects or other instruments.

  29. The authorization system of most big players is terrible! I don't know how many hours I wasted with such stuff! But I agree that PA is really not the worst one in this area (they authorize all plugins at once, have a simple offline authorization, and if a machine goes belly up, you are not lost)! Yesterday I wanted to insert a plugin in CbB and immediately the system was hanging. I couldn't do nothing about it, I had to force a close of CbB. Then suddenly an error message of Waves appeared that the USB could not be opened. It seems I hit the wrong plugin (I have only 2 Waves one installed), so I was not aware what was happening. I may have lost an hour of my life! 😄 There are several small developers that have really quality plugins and a user-friendly authorization (like Toneboosters, Klanghelm, ...)! Melda: I don't get warm with their plugin interfaces and don't like their installation process (monolith). On the other hand they have a good authorization and update commitment.

  30. This is not new to CbB or any particular Windows version. Long before SONAR became CbB, it would create a "MixScenes" subfolder to support the Mix Recall feature on opening a WRK file that would cause the parent's Last Modified date to change. This continues to be the case. Even if you don't re-save the project and the MixScenes folder is discarded/deleted on closing the project, the parent folder's Modified Date will already have been permanently updated - first by creation of the subfolder and again when it's deleted. I long ago copied all my old WRK projects to a "Old Files" directory that I use whan I want to resurrect one of them and archived the original directory in a different location specifically for this reason to preserve the Modified Dates. As I convert them to use modern templates, plugins and routing. I move the copied WRK folders/files to a "Converted" subdirectory with a shortcut link to the new project location. I have actually done this a number of times as some projects have been repeatedly updated to work with different MIDI and audio interface and routing configurations over 30+ years. It's worth taking some time to work out a process and directory structure to reflect your evolving project setup conventions, PC configurations and studio layout, and rebuild old projects using current templates rather than just updating them and resaving in the current release which won't capture all your preferred default project preferences.

  31. This is the first time (and probably the last) that I have submitted a cover song. A long time in a place far away, I was listening to our local community radio station when I heard this absoflippinlutely great rendition of the Everly Brothers arrangement of the Richard Penniman (Little Richard) song Lucille. For any "Youngbloods" reading this, that are not familiar with this song by these artist, I recommend that you go on YouTube and bend an ear to both the Everly and Little Richard recordings. Unfortunately, I did not get the name of the band but I quickly plugged in my guitar are recorded a couple of tracks of what I remembered. A while ago I ran across this this recording and finished it up. As always I would appreciate any comments, suggestions, crit's, etc. but as this is my first time (for a cover) please be gentle. Thanks. LUCILLE ( A COVER) https://www.soundclick.com/artist/default.cfm?bandid=963481

  32. 1). My understanding is they will rest after the 7 if it doesn't looks like you are a legit human and not abusing the system. Allowing to authorize to 3 USB sticks at the same time opens the door for misuse. I wish it was unlimited without intervention but think it is still better than the majority. 2). Most people can't even hear it and only know this because the internet tells them this is the case. 3). I'd rather they cater to Windows users who are in fact the vast majority. 4). They have great pricing throughout the year as long as you get in the mailing list. They offer the exact same plugins as UAD for a tiny fraction of the price in sale. Those that fit in your box are the minority, who other than Melda?

  33. Amek 9099 I use a lot. Don't use ssl 4000 anymore. True Peak limiter gets use just have to be careful setting it up. Crispy Tuner I have but never used (note I have Melodyne Studio 5 which is crazy expensive). I paid $50 for the Amek only because it really can be a core plugin if you want it to be. Normally I wait for the $15 deals.

  39. I have these. While they aren't my go to strings, for $50 USD, I think they're worth considering. I think I paid a little over $ 100 US for them a couple of years ago. There are A LOT of articulations for each instrument, but they don't have intuitive scripting that enables you to get real-time, realistic sounding performances like some KONTAKT instruments have (which is what I really love about Orange Tree Samples libraries that made me a huge fan from day one). It takes a bit more work. If you have a go to set of strings and are looking for additional colors, I think this MAY be worth picking up. The interface allows you to trigger the various articulations by velocity you set. Consequently, if that fits your workflow, you may enjoy this approach.
