  1. We're pleased to announce the 2022.09 release! This is primarily a maintenance release that includes fixes for a few user reported issues. Please note that in order to automatically keep your activation status up to date, Cakewalk will renew your activation status whenever a new version of the application is installed and run for the first time, and when you sign in to BandLab from within Cakewalk. If you have never signed in to BandLab from within Cakewalk, you will be prompted once to sign in. Thanks, The Bakers For new feature details, see New Features. Should you need to revert to the 2022.06 release, you can download the Cakewalk 2022.06 Rollback installer. 2022.09 Highlights Improvements Mono inputs from Patch Points and Aux Tracks Prior to this release, if a track or bus had an input assigned to a mono input (L/R) from an AUX track or Patch Point, the input would always and include both left and right channels from the patch point when playing back. Patch point inputs now correctly include just the channel specified as a track input. Note: Existing projects that utilize aux track or patch point mono inputs will sound different because previously these would render as stereo only. If you want them to sound the same as before, you can reassign the input to be stereo. Reduced minimum project loop length The minimum project loop length has been reduced to 1/128th note (30 ticks). Update to élastique SDK 3.4.0 Integrated zplane élastique Pro audio stretching and pitch shifting has been updated to version 3.4.0 with bug fixes and performance enhancements. Update to latest Microsoft redistributables and compiler The application is now built using the latest Microsoft tools that include some minor compile time fixes and optimizations. Application Signing The application signature has been refreshed to remove dependencies with Symantec certificates. In some cases, this would cause the application to be flagged as unsafe or cause the digital signature to be treated as invalid, potentially causing activation errors. Additionally, we now sign all DLL files and themes installed by the application to prevent unexpected quarantining by antivirus programs at install time or runtime. Note: If you do an update install of the application, only the main application and its DLL files will be updated with the new digital signatures. To update all signed components, you will have to run the full application installer. Optimizations Improved responsiveness of the application on stopping transport with large projects The MIDI All Notes Off message is no longer sent to VST plugins on transport stop. This message can be expensive for some plugins (eg Console Emulator) and the symptom was that the application could appear unresponsive for a few seconds after stopping playback, when the project contained a large number of tracks. Since Cakewalk manages all MIDI note on's explicitly, sending note off messages for just those notes, the All Notes Off message is no longer required. This may also improve start/stop responsiveness with other VST instruments. ProChannel plugins no longer receive MIDI Some ProChannel modules were requesting MIDI data leading to unnecessary processing lag. MIDI to Prochannel modules has now been blocked. Bug fixes Application UI is not shown after "Almost done..." message when opening projects containing certain plugins Occasional heap corruption on deleting synth tracks "Nudge by snap" uses Landmarks even with Snap to Landmarks button disabled Regression - unable to use automation shelf tool after making time ruler selection Set Measure/Beat As Now creates duplicate nodes at the end of the tempo envelope Export presets do not recall custom sample rate Export module shows inaccurate elapsed time for selection The ampersand character (&) behaves incorrectly in the track inspector's Description text box Simple Instrument Tracks cause incorrect track numbers when exporting audio Latest release notes are here. 3. The forum is pretty good for getting questions answered. You might also try here: https://answers.presonus.com/ Definitely not as "targeting" for specific questions, but I find lately I've been gravitating towards ANY video by Gregor. I almost always come away from one of his videos learning something new. He's awesome!

  5. You probably didn't even know you needed a banjo, but according to Tracy it was his "most requested library". I just got it today and will be kicking the tires and will report back. My expectation is that it's going to be great, like all the Indiginus stuff. Introductory price: $39 Product page: https://www.indiginus.com/the-banjo

  10. Always with major version upgrades...that have to be paid for. I bought SpectraLayers 5. Paid for the v6 upgrade. Then said 'f' it and wound up with a superior product that I've only had to pay for upgrading once (it's seen a bunch of v7 updates for free). The Pro version costs 199,90 € and includes a bunch of excellent audio repair plugins. It's super fast, has a much better looking UI that SpectraLayers, has an excellent spectral editor and handles up to 7.1 audio source material. An all-around great audio editor. 11. Nothing challenging. Nothing ground breaking. Just a nice little indie folk tune in an unusual open-tuning. I've been unusually active in writing recently and this one came together in a flash. I might need to return to it at some point to sort out the vocals....if I don't get lazy I think it could make a nice album filler.

  13. https://gearspace.com/board/new-product-alert/1390309-kiive-audio-releases-xtressor-compressor.html Xtressor will be available at an introductory price of $64.99 (using code SUMMER35) at kiiveaudio.com starting on October 7th 2022, and the sale will run through the entire month of October (afterward it will go up to $149.99). Xtressor will also be available to any customers who already own at least one (1) paid kiive plugin for an extra discounted intro price of $50.99. will be sending out that email with the loyalty voucher in an hour. 14 day Free trial: https://www.kiiveaudio.com/downloads FREE PLUGIN AS WELL we're also giving away a new free plugin; Xtressor NUKE https://www.kiiveaudio.com/nuke ... have been holding out for a deal on https://www.empiricallabs.com/product/arousor/ as the only compressor I -need-, but don't have. ELI has cred as the original dev for it and almost bought the lite version they put out earlier this year, perhaps in an attempt to bridge the gap to their current pricing. however, knowing i'd still want the full version, decided to wait for a deal but it's never gone below $129 afaik. and that was with a email signup, iirc. ... any thoughts, comments, experience with kiive as a dev would be appreciated. Or any of the other alts out there? I demo'd the UAD some time ago and found it to be pretty good, but looking for alts to their ecosystem. have not demo'd the Softube version based on minor "grumbles" and at some point bought the SKnote clone, but didn't love it.

  15. The only concerts I've attended for the past 20 years or so are symphony orchestras. This is for a few reasons (1) the don't hold them on the weekends here, when I'm gigging so I can actually go. (2) I really like the music (3) It's music I can't play without hiring an entire orchestra (4) the audience is reasonably well-behaved (5) it's not loud enough to be ear damaging if I sit far enough back. 17. I had a similar problem a few days ago (see thread "Cakewalk not opening - Solved"). For me it came down to a corruption in a control surface file, caused by trying to install a new controller. The crashes are probably creating dump files ( .dmp) and these can be sent to Cakewalk technical support ( see details in the other thread ). My experience was that they were pretty quick to try and help, so this might be a better route to go before major re-installation of Windows etc.

  19. I love them (Acoustica Premium and SL Pro) both, I use them both. At least each new SL version comes with some meaningful improvements in contrast to iZoNope’s RX Advanced I got my SL Pro 6 copy bundled with Sound Forge Pro 14 Suite with a free SL Pro 7 upgrade included. Then upgraded it myself to 8 and then 9 and I didn’t regret it. Upgrades immediately after the release date are always somewhat discounted.

  21. That would describe me, and, well, color me PSYCHED to get a free license for it! Since I returned to making electronic music, I've been perfectly happy with the synths I've been using (Hybrid 3, Vacuum Pro, XPand!2, A|A|S Player, TAL Noisemaker), but there are certain ones that tower over the rest when it comes to reputation in the EDM world (Massive, Serum, and Omnisphere are the first that come to my mind). Having Massive makes many signature genre sounds available to me. I don't necessarily always want to use signature sounds, but every genre has them and they can trigger ideas. There's usually a reason why they became "signature" in the first place. Plenty of free presets around for Massive, which is less the case for the other synths in my collection. I know that there's a Massive X, which is the next generation, but hey, in terms of resource usage, give me the synth designed to run on systems that were state of the art 15 years ago. I've only browsed a dozen patches or so, but I see what the fuss was about. Some inspiring timbres in there. (sure am glad that the not-so-new Focusrite interface I bought had an unused serial number)

  25. It's the same everywhere Facebook Twitter Youtube Reddit They're copping major backlash over this. I have mostly bit my tongue so far, although having just bought it less than two weeks ago it feels a lot like a bait and switch on the back of the previous U-He promotion. Really hoping they listen to the community and find a way to course correct. I understand the commercial imperative but there's a right way and a wrong way to do things.

  26. The cool thing about Indiginus, the "full" prices usually run about $59, so still quite affordable. I just checked and already had the Renaxxance Nylon String Guitar in my shopping list. https://www.indiginus.com/renaxxance-nylon-string-guitar That banjo sounds excellent though, and since there's no way I could ever play one correctly it looks like Tracy has made the banjo as effortless as the fiddle!

  27. Thanks to all - I have just found a way to get this to load in Cakewalk. I was able to open it in Minihost Modular 32 bit previously but couldn't get Cakewalk to recognise Minihost other than the 64 bit plugin. Solution as follows I downloaded JBridger. Created JBridger files for both Minihost Modular and Proteus VX. 1. Opened the Minihost Modular (J Bridger) vst in Cakewalk as a soft synth track - then opened Proteus VX dll in Minihost Modular - result - Proteus displays OK and I've loaded up a couple of patches which seem to work. PS - Lenovo P52 laptop - Win10 - Tascam usb interface - MAudio oxygen Pro controller. 2. Created a jBridger dll file for Proteus VX. It loads as a soft synth in Cakewalk and loaded up a couple of patches. There is sound but needed to tweak settings to get fully working. Now seems OK. But the end result is - you can get Proteus VX to work in Cakewalk 64 bit version and it is still usable. Hope this all makes sense

  28. I can't get anything like it with a static EQ. I confess I've not tried to recreate it with dynamic EQs. I'd imagine it'd be fairly difficult though. I understand it to behave like a Dolby NR reversal process, so if there are any specs available, they might be a good insight into what it does - either that, or using something like Plugin Doctor😁 I usually put it on the main bus, followed by the Ozone EQ with a very gentle scoop, and then an IK tape machine (one instance is all my computer can handle😁) - Dopamine will give it some colour, but I'll still add a tiny bit of EQ after. Sometimes I think it sounds great after a mixing session. I'll load it up the next day and wonder if I actually saved my work because it sounds so bad 😁

  29. Folks, I decided to go with a pair of Golden Age Project EQ-81 MK 3. I ordered the pair the other day and I am waiting for them to arrive so I can add them to my studio rack and plug them into my patch bay. I also ordered the Golden Age unite 19 inch rack kit to house the two EQ's. The difference now than the previous version of the GAP devices is that this version supports stand alone use, or can now be used with another hardware processors, not just GAP processors only.

  30. Thanks to some tests from @David Baay I have isolated the issue that causes the UI to be unresponsive after stopping when there are hundreds of tracks with certain prochannel modules. It is fixed it for the upcoming release. The issue is easily reproducible if you have 200 tracks containing the console emulator. The reason for the delay on stop is because the console emulator ends up blocking the user interface under certain conditions. I have worked around the plugin issue in our code. Edit: This fix is included in the 2022.09 official release.

  31. I'm aware of the 13900k (been running both a 12900k and 12900ks for a good while). 13900k adds eight more efficient cores... and increases clock-speed to 5.8GHz for performance cores... and 4.3GHz for efficient cores. Both the 13900k and 7950x have 32 processing threads. On paper, one would expect the 13900k to leapfrog the 7950x (as 12900k leapfrogged the 5950x)... but it's speculation until we can run audio specific tests. I would have liked to see 8 additional performance cores... instead of 8 additional efficient cores. With the 7950x, AMD seems to have achieved significantly higher all-core clock-speed (vs the 5950x). That kind of leaves the door open to doubt... as the 7950x has 16 full-performance cores... with max turbo of 5.7GHz. The PC Mag article mention's price being ~$100 less than the 7950x. That's not likely... because the current 12900ks is $700 (same cost as the 7950x). Synthetic benchmarks show the 7950x besting the 12900ks in most scenarios. I'm most interested in the absolute limits of ultra low latency audio performance. In that regard, there's not a huge difference between the 5950x, 12900k, and 12900ks. Audio specifics to come...

  32. Yes, I'll get this. AmpleSound's banjo sounds great, maybe a little TOO bright, but I have to muck with the string/fretting position to get the legato played correctly or to force open strings to ring out correctly. I have, but have not yet tried OT's banjo. But I use Indiginus' The Fiddle and The Resonator and they don't require much futzing. Plus, this banjo appears to have more bottom end, so it could be more folksy sounding, not as clinical. A buy for me.

  33. I have enough trouble getting competent with one tool. 😋 I have licenses for Reaper and SPlat (SONAR Platinum) and Ableton, but just use Studio One Pro. Works for me. I respect those who can be effective with multiple DAWs and other complex tools. I don't have the patience (TBI from American football in 1965; been dealing with it ever since; music is therapy for me), and don't make or take the time.

  42. Even though i'm not permanently in CbB anymore, I would still like it to grow in to a well-oiled DAW. It has all the abilities of 90% the requests made as "New Features" already at our finger tips, but they're locked. The one i'm making now is an old favorite I used a lot and occassionally still use everytime I fire up Cakewalk. Here goes . . . This is two requests as one, because they go together, but currently works independently it seems. So i'll start with the big one everyone keeps requesting, which is already available in Cakewalk - and that's VARISPEED! Yes, people . . . Cakewalk have always had the ability to do varispeed for years. I've always used it even though it was a real pain to create, but ultimately every single time I would get a perfect result. Requesting to have the pitch and the format/fine tune buttons as an envelope in the clip automation section on the track itself as shown in the picture. The second one is to have these sync'd. The Loop construction playhead and the TV has always been out ouf sync'd. Though, for some reason I can swore they were synced in X1 LE and X1 producer. This was many moons ago, so i'm not entirely sure if they were. It's an oldie, but it served me well over the years with transposing 808 kicks, speeding up short vocal samples and still retain its natural tone. It was a pain creating the effect and getting the timing perfect, but like i said - it was always worth it. It was my old secret in Cakewalk, but I think it's time we introduce it to everyone. EXAMPLE: Varispeed.mp4
