  2. iZotope switching to software as service stimulated me to get the Mastering Bundle of FF + Pro-G, Saturn 2 and Timeless 3 as Ozone, Neutron and Nectar replacement. Valhalla Room, VintageVerb, Plate as a Neoverb replacement and last but not least SpectraLayers Pro as a semi-RX7 Standard replacement. My iZotope software is on sale. I already have Melodyne Studio, so their offer of Elements is of no interest to me. iZotope opting for software as a service and abandoning the perpetual versions is not a nice move IMO.

  5. seems like you have 3 or 4 audio drivers involved. i doubt this has anything to do with Cakewalk. i suggest uninstalling or disabling every audio driver except the default Windows WASAPI drivers. then test. and if that works, then use WASAPI Shared with CW to allow it to cross-operate with other audio apps. skip the ASIO4ALL, VoiceMeeter, etc as they're often problematic if not properly configured.

  7. I constantly ask myself this question when it comes to Izotope MPS, being an owner of MPS3 Am I that sh*t at this mixing/mastering game that without the latest subscription, the end product will be rubbish? The answer has invariably been No I did this in the hardware era and still produced quality stuff, I have done this in the software era and produced quality stuff. Don't get me wrong The suite is impressive, I use Ozone a lot in addition to other plugins, but nothing here says without the pro version I cannot deliver a broadcast quality, professional result. It is the equivalent to walking on crutches before you have a leg injury just in case you have one in the future. You end up reliant on the crutches even though you don't actually need them If Izotope had released Ozone, TBC, Insight and RX as a subscription model in the first place, they would have been swamped with sign ups, but for a mature (and brilliant I must add) product suite with little headroom for improvement, the words "Cash" and "Cow" come to mind.

  10. Maybe... Technically, I think it is illegal (violates the license terms) to transfer your license to the software. Presumably, the OP has a valid license for his own copy, but just lost the installation discs. I expect that he could install the software from any distribution medium, but to activate and use it legally he would need his own activation key. Not all jurisdictions even support that license provision, so if two people are in such a jurisdiction, they could "legally" transfer the software.

  13. The only thing guaranteed to make your drums sound just as fake as quantization is "humanization". Don't do it. Someday, some clever programmer will invent a smart humanization tool, but it doesn't exist at the moment. Inserting random timing swings does not make the rhythm more human. Yes, human drummers are naturally inconsistent compared to a PLL oscillator. But the variations are not random. A good drummer advances or retards hits in order to add excitement or to relax the groove. When hits don't land on the grid with microsecond resolution, it's for a musical purpose. A random number generator cannot do that. If you want more natural-sounding drums, and learning to play drums or enlisting a real drummer are not options, you can still enter MIDI data by hand. You don't have to be a keyboard player, either. Anybody can tap their fingers. Watch this for some inspiration (note: the presenter is not a keyboard player). Here's something similar but using Cakewalk and SI-Drums:

  16. Its rare to have the switch or wiring go bad. As someone that still does some PC repair (I'm retired) the switch, in a case such as yours, would be the last thing suspected. I've been doing user support on the Dell forums for 20 years and don't recall one bad power switch.

  18. There should be at most one ASIO driver installed for a device. Generic ASIO "drivers" such as ASIO4All should not be installed on a machine when an interface with a factory supplied ASIO driver is available. The DAW can only use one ASIO driver at a time. In order to change ASIO drivers both input and output settings must be deselected in preferences before making a new selection.

  27. As Glen has pointed out. WASAPI is the best choice for an audio driver when using on board audio. It has made those other bandaid drivers obsolete. Of coarse you should use the Focusrite ASIO drivers when in use. But you cannot use your laptop audio jacks while using the ASIO audio interface (Focusrite). Just use a 1/8”-1/4” adapter into the Interface headphones jack. I would totally remove the not needed drivers including from the Registry or you will have conflicting drivers. WASAPI out performs those drivers as it is optimized for windows 10 if you do use you computers sound chip instead of you interface.

  37. I binned Netflix when they increased the price after gaining 30 million extra customers due to lockdowns, which also meant that they spent next to nothing on new content, which led to them swimming in cash which then drove the share price up considerably. I figured that I would probably resub at some point that still left me up on the deal compared to if they had just let it be as it was, but I haven't really missed it TBH. Binned Sky before that because of their policy of giving far better deals to someone new that is prepared to sign a 12 month contract than someone who had been paying for 20+ years. Prime...........good value of you already order lots of stuff, but I don't so as just a TV package it's not all that IMO. Anyway, Izotope...........not a bad price, but no thanks. Putting Pro on the end of the name of products you already own may work for some, but not for me.

  38. I think iZotope is overrated and they invest too much in sales promotion IMO. Lately I tested one function in RX Advanced (I own only Standard) that I am interested in: Wow & Flutter. The results for Wow were really disappointing! I had expected more! Maybe it works on full mixes, but on stems it's really unusable! And subscription for music production is a trap, unless you always finish your projects in short time and who does? 😆

  43. Had a second listen, seems the consensus is the drum track needs some massaging. The "bones" are here, fine songwriting as always Barry; but you've spoiled us, what else would we expect? t I'll hold my "like" for the next mix...
    1 point
  44. As ever you tell a story Barry, regards the mix the drums sound a little over reverbed for todays market they also sound a little boxy here. Something is missing in the bottom end too, I am not hearing much kick weight. As ever I am sure the mix only needs a subtle tweak or three and you will have another of you good tunes to enjoy.

  45. It does sound like some timing issues here and there. I think the vocal is too out front. The bass is pretty weak too. The reverb is kind of intense especially on the drums. It will be a good song when you're finished no doubt, nice guitar work as always.

  46. The main difference between aux tracks and buses is that aux tracks can be recorded in real-time allowing you to capture any signal flow. See the use cases for patch points on this article. http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=Mixing.13.html The following are a few ideas for how you can use patch points: Work exclusively in the Track view and have folders of tracks with their Aux tracks adjacent to them. This workflow can be used as an alternative to routing tracks to buses. Record a vocal track with effects to another track. For details, see To record an audio track that contains effects. Record two or more background vocal tracks to a single track. Aux tracks can be used instead of buses for busing or effects sends. For details, see To record multiple tracks to a single track. Record only the effect bus of a vocal track. For details, see To record only the send effects on an audio track. Record the metronome to an audio track. For details, see To record the metronome to an audio track. Control multiple audio track volumes with one fader. For details, see Control multiple audio track volumes with one fader. Capture the performance of guitar effects in real-time. For details, see Capture the performance of guitar effects in real-time. Control surfaces that don’t support buses can instead control Aux tracks. Record time-based effects in real-time. Record plug-in parameter changes that are not automatable. Record a bus to an audio track. Record complex reverbs and delays in real-time.
