  6. That too would be nice. My daughters say how many of the kids in High School don't know how to do basic research. Funny I don't blame the teachers as I blame more of the parents that didn't install learning in their children. We never gave our daughters the answers but would give little clues at times to lead them. I remember my younger one would get so pissed at me. My older daughter would tell her I told you dad wasn't going to give you the answer right away. She learned quickly that it was her responsibility to make a valid attempt at the work assigned. My younger daughter actually thanked me this past January for not giving into her and forcing her to buckle down. My wife and I told them we don't expect A's but we do expect them to do the best to there abilities.

  13. But what about the music software that is ******?
    2 points
  14. Not bad at all. Miroslav is a bit long in the tooth now but not a bad place to start. CE has most of the instruments you will need for orchestral mockups but of course articulations are somewhat limited. At that price though it is a good deal unless you want to wait for the next deal on a Total Studio Max package to get the full version and lots more!

  16. I too picked up VIP 3 bundled with an Alesis VX49 a few years ago. I never really got into the little keyboard screen and buttons, as I much preferred using VIP with my DAW's monitor anyway, but it's a functional controller for VIP, as well as a generic MIDI controller. I got it to replace an aging M-Audio Axiom 49 that was like a first gen version. But as for VIP 3 itself, I have 20,000+ presets installed in that (sadly stuck at VST2). It's obviously not moving into the future, but there's really no replacement for it yet. I have really become obsessed with PluginGuru's Unify lately. It is another tool for building layers of synths and presets. A cool discovery is that I can load VIP 3 as a plugin (along with my 20,000+ existing presets) inside of a Unify layer, along side of any of my VST3 plugins that were loaded by Unify! Best of both worlds!

  19. GForce is incredibly dedicated to detail and you can get the original tapes (for M-Tron Pro) like the pretty amazingly sounding Streetly expansions. Quite something. As for VSM, they include all former expansions at the current (crazy) price of £33 until the end of April.

  22. This one really sucks you in. Maybe at the upper edge of the eq spectrum, things are getting a bit pokey/crisp? I can't really judge much above 13khz but I think there is some icepick potential you could check? If only visually on a parametric eq? I heard the space toad . . . Otherwise super crisp, clean, and separated, mix-wise. Well done! cheers, -Tom

  24. If this same a bundle file make sure that you can open it successfully from the bundle. Any file can get corrupted on disk and since a bundle is a single file there is a risk of the entire file getting corrupted. Hence the recommendation you save both the bundle and the actually project file with it's audio.

  28. I have the Steel String Guitar, which I bought for $18 a few years ago. I highly doubt all of them will ever sell for that price, but probably one or two will. 8dio prices their stuff all over the place. A guitar could turn up as a free gift with purchase for all I know. Even though I have a lot of guitars from other companies, I do like the sound of this Steel String. There are a lot of really cool-sounding preset mixes. The main problem I have it is the strumming engine--because it doesn't loop. You want the strumming to continue when you hold down the keys, but it doesn't.

  29. HI LYNN! for me, it was a great and terrible experience. and we are experienced white water folk, but the people that we were with, were not. and they were the cause. either way, we dealt with it, and my lady did not even lose her paddle, and swam a class 5 rapid in repose. LOL

  31. Wow, no VST3 support is like not having 64-bit support would have been not so long ago. Thumbs-down to them for trying to squeeze even $15 out of people. Do you think that inMusic even has a "development team" as such these days? My impression is that they canned the last of the SONiVOX and AIR people right after the last new AIR synth shipped. Wasn't that a drum machine? Whatever the last product launch was. The latest in a long line of their KVR support forum punching bags put out a call for beta testers back in February which I assume was for Catalina support on the Mac side and the big PACE installer issue on the Windows side. How many $9 licenses do you have to sell to pay for one developer?

  34. As someone who sets up systems for users of varying experience levels... I can't say that I agree. Hiding the mix controls in the Track View means new users are now hunting for the faders that go with the clips they are working with. When the Fader/Pan/Mute/Solo/RecordEnable are right there on the screen next to the data (and not buried in lower control rows so that they disappear when tracks are minimized), it is a lot easier for me to get new users started. With the Track Inspector, I need to teach them to click on a track first in order to make its fader visible. Hiding controls encourages users to open multiple views at once to do basic things like mixing and editing. This can become cumbersome, especially on systems with 1080p displays, and especially when users start getting into things that actually require other views to be opened. As for me personally... I find that the only time I actually need the Console View (because the Track View is so capable and intuitive once its functionality is enabled) is when I need to copy a track EQ from one track to another. I think that may be the only thing that can't be done without the Console View. Otherwise, I keep it closed so that I have a lot more screen-space for views I really need.

  41. This better demonstrates why you might need to "Apply Trimming" before you do any operations on the Process->Apply Effect menu. I'm using Normalize as an example, but it also applies to Clip Gain, Remove DC Offset etc.. This might not always be desired though: If you're likely to slip edit the hidden areas back in, you're going to want to have had the hidden areas processed too. In which case Apply Trimming isn't what you want, as the hidden parts will be a completely different level.

  43. Exactly why I leave my tracks alone. If nothing is peaking and the mix is very close to my liking and then all that automated stuff as well as level sensitive effects. Example if you pull down the vocal track and it has a send to the reverb bus you have now changed th e send level as well. It should be proportional but there's never a guarantee of this in my experience. No, better to use sub busses for backing off on a mix. I will only return to tracks to balance a sub mix or deal with EQ issues. Overall there is a zillion ways to get to the same place so one just has to find a way that works for them. Ultimately you need a firm understanding of the signal path because making adjustments in one place has a different result than when you might do it somewhere else. This is especially true of the effects bins, Pro Channel and sends. My method works for me on hundreds of mixes. They are far from perfect but they meet my needs and expectations. I didn’t mention this in my first post as it was already turning into a novel. I also put Span on my sub busses. It’s a light load and at the master stage you can always push your buffers up. Actually I just drag Span and Youlean from bin to bin most times

  45. >>If I go thru the bug fixes in the last couple of releases, then I also see that many fixes are related to the new features! This is completely normal to the way we work. When we release a new feature we continue refining and making it as solid as possible before moving on to the next area. We also tend to fix issues by category. In every release we tackle areas like Plugins, editing, UX, workflow, performance and stability. So there is something there for everyone and the product gets better in every release. I’ll be the first to say that we still have plenty of room for improvement despite the fact that focus has been very high on making the product more stable since 2018. We look at the forums social media groups but the best way to get attention to problems and solve them quickly is to write specific and demonstrable reports of problems encountered, include a project file or video demonstrating the issue (if necessary) and include dump files if the issue is a crash or hang. And of course send the case to support and get a ticket to follow up. Following these basic steps has a much greater effect than making general statements like “I run into issues on every project”, etc. Not everyone has the time to do this, but if you care about getting issues fixed this is the only way.

  46. I've also had some luck sometimes (depends on the plug-in) of opening a cwp in Notepad or similar (Notepad++ probably better given Notepad's propensity to sit there for hours opening a large file :-)) reading out pathnames of programs or samples from the text.
