Went and got it for $55 with existing HG-2 licence and a $25 voucher. Now I just have to find time to fiddle with it... Did I need it - highly doubt it - but it's surely gonna be "nice". 😂3 points

I use a venerable ECHO Layla3G PCI card in my DAW. The ASIO drivers are version 8.6, released for Windows 7 "back in the day", but work fine in my Windows 10 system. Related to PCI cards, is the description of how I managed to install it into a new computer with only smaller PCIe slots.2 points

Hi Everybody, This is a track off of the album I'm currently working on called "The Westerly Sessions Vol. VII". As always, any comments and critiques are welcome, and thanks for listening. Here it is: https://www.soundclick.com/music/songInfo.cfm?songID=141974932 points

Considering a class action lawsuit. One more click to get to the deals forum (or should I say sub sub sub forum). I reckon I will get RSI from all those additional mouse clicks.😀2 points

SoundID Reference is the new product name. Main features seem to include: Resizable GUI. Includes a dark skin. Ability to apply correction only over a user-defined frequency range. Ability to emulate a variety of playback systems - earbuds, laptops, car, phones, other studio monitors, etc. Ability to specify a target frequency response - not just flat. Lower latency correction filters. GUI is easier to navigate. Very easy to pick any of the +280 headphone models. On the music consumption side, a SoundID app is available to allow users to optimize their own listening experience. Currently only useable on Android phones and Windows/Mac desktops. It is not clear, but it may only work with streaming services, not locally stored mp3s. Upgrade from Reference 4 Speaker & Headphone is $119.2 points

Well, I do have other people double check and make use of forum comments. I've never used meters (SPAN and such) much. It's all instinct and using the same techniques that worked in the past. Oh yeah, I mainly mix in headphones and crank those suckers up to 11.2 points

@Lemar Sain I immediately made the same connection when I became aware of these great freebies from AnyDayLong. On AnyDayLong's page they write that they (he?) had formerly coded a lot of drum libraries for another KONTAKT sample developer before going off on their own. Based on the vibe and the vocals on the demos, it seems extremely likely that the person behind AnyDayLong was formerly with Past to Future Reverbs. In any event, I appreciate them both and think AnyDayLong has been really generous and doing a great job with the KONTAKT libraries -- really nailing the sounds they are trying to recreate, and how can we not appreciate that they are giving them away free. Very cool. I'm a fan.2 points

Exactly. "Professional" does not directly imply that you are necessarily good at something, just because someone was willing to pay you to do it. I have been a professional musician, a professional hardware engineer, a professional software engineer, and a professional teacher. In each of those roles, I knew plenty of associates - also professionals - who were flat-out sh*t at their jobs. There were others that I knelt at their feet beseeching them to bestow upon me even a little of their vast knowledge and experience. On the other hand, there's such a thing as the passionate amateur, someone compelled to learn everything they can about the subject of their passion. Such people aren't constrained by the narrow needs of a specific job assignment, but are free to branch out into any related field that piques their interest. I am happy to call myself an amateur mixer, and would be considerably less happy if I had to do it as a (shudder) job.2 points

Well, I was 'this' close to giving up on Cakewalk (beginner user). Couldn't get any sound out of my laptop headphones even after a considerable effort via Google and YouTube. You very clearly and succinctly covered this topic on the idiosyncrasies of motherboard sound card/chip settings. And, you know, sometimes it's the little things that are so valuable too, like mentioning that ASIO is only pertinent for off-motherboard sound devices. I now understand, finally, that ASIO can be of no use to me unless I were to get one of those external USB sound thingies. Thank you!! Oh, by the way, that original song you recorded on your YouTube channel; quite good.2 points

Wow! I just finished watching the new features video for 5.2 this morning and I'm blown away. One of the things that really shocked me was they developed software that is available to any developer that will automatically scan and set up any virtual instrument and automatically set up all the controllers. I wonder if this will somehow be extended to external hardware eventually. First ARA, now this, and it's just starting. I can see a lot of amazing things coming in the future from Presonus. 👍🏻2 points

Is the loss and damage consideration that serious? I used to manage licences for specialist software in a international organisation. We had around 60 dongles and we lost or broke 3 or 4 in around 10 years, usually during demob and international shipping. Other licencing methods were more problematic. Worst were geographicly restricted authorisations. We had a licence purchased in the US that could not be authorised from a Mexican ISP address.2 points

You would be better off brushing up on your Brit English. Meng grew up and studied at math at Cambridge, England. He speaks really fast with a Brit accent2 points

It was with some sadness that last week I finally contributed my VS-700 T-shirt to the rag pile. At least it was put to one last musical purpose: cleaning up after my granddaughter, who'd just finished spray-painting her guitar as well as the patio table she'd used as a workspace.2 points

I really hate that when I buy a door, I have to also buy a lock. Why should it cost me money just because some people are thieves? And that lock seriously slows me down going in and out of my house. If I lose my key, then what? I'm locked out! (I'll see myself out now)2 points

*Gasp* non-Sphere?! You just had to be different didn't you. (Am I allowed to say that?)1 point

I'm sure that's mostly true. There was an issue some people talked about a little while ago when they bought some AIR product (I think) on a cheap deal; it bundled an older version of the iLok driver, and then blue screened their computer when it conflicted with the newer version. Certainly a rare exception rather than the norm, but I'm just saying it can happen. I'm very glad you and others here are happy with your dongles; may they continue to function flawlessly. I'm happy to use the plugins that I do that don't use a dongle. We all choose the software that suits our purposes and workflows best.1 point

I have an 1976 Series I Alembic Bass. I am technically the original owner although it was actually first owned new by a young kid for about two weeks before I bought it. Oh yeah, my son is a much better and somewhat famous musician in the Death Metal Scene. One degree of separation there. The most important thing I ever did (in the software industry) was create a product that was used for many years by Boeing in St. Louis, MO back in the 80s. Of course there was over 80K posts on the old cakewalk forum. Does that make me a bad person?1 point

Are you the person making these libraries and giving them away free? If so, I just wanted to say thanks and I have been really impressed on how well you nail these sounds. If you're not the person making them, thanks for spreading the word about this cool find.1 point

For some reason I read RX as Ozone so was scratching my head till I realized I cannot read.... Spectral Layers Pro 7 has less artifacts from my experience, but RX Advanced will let background vocals through in many cases. In spectral Layers you can additionally split the stems into sub components (sometimes this will separate background vocals from the lead, but is iffy - can check the content for each layer as you go), but you may also need some post mixing to get the desired result. I forget offhand if RX Standard will do this, and RX (via the Mix Rebalance) doesn't actually give you the ability to export stem tracks to work with elsewhere (that I am aware of) but Spectral Layers does. The price point between Spectral Layers and RX Advanced is also significantly different.1 point

Symphony #6 - Tchaikovsky - Cleveland Orchestra, George Szell conducting Tchaikovsky is said to have composed this while contemplating suicide because of his homosexuality. He said he wept while composing it, and died by drinking disease infected water soon after. IMO it's a great piece of music. Sometimes anguish can produce great art.1 point

Definitely! Some of those simple 2D, one screen games were awesome! Crystal Caves, Commander Keen, Joust, all the Mario and similar types... On the flip-side, I eventually want to get into VR game development, but with Myst-like games. Immersive with puzzles and awesome background music.1 point
