  1. I received a 250$ discount code to upgrade from Horizon bundle to Mercury. My upgrade price for a long time is around 400$, and that would bring the upgrade price to 150$. I never got a quote that low over the years. I know Waves WUP and pricing is controversial, but with this price, I would get many plugins missing and upgrade almost everything from them from version 9 to 13 to the current version without the hassle of many installers, so Iโ€™ll probably get it. And Iโ€™m on Windows so never any problems with OS upgrades over the years. Check your emails for similar offers for those not on Mercury.

  3. You won't regret it! I made a similar upgrade years ago. WUP is currently maxed at $240 per year for everything you own of Waves - but you can get that reduced of course by not renewing every year, you can skip years. And every year several times they offer 25% off WUP so that's the time to renew when doing so. There are usually a few new products added each year that get included in Mercury. Given the amount of tools included with ongoing updates it feels quite fair and the breadth of tools continually keep coming in handy.

  4. REMOVED Removed Beta label from Go To Shop link Removed the version number from the splash screen. Still available in the ADDED/IMPROVED Added support for Light Mode and System Mode (Toggleable in the Preferences) When an action is not authenticated due to an invalidated session, improved UX to move you to the login window Added placeholder image if no default asset is available in the Download Manager. Major improvements to our diagnostic systems FIXED App tray icon now restores application window again Addressed a bug where information got clogged in the event funnel between Native Access and the NTK Daemon that caused users to receive a false negative that the installer service is unavailable. Addressed a bug where we donโ€™t automatically refresh the product list after a serial has been registered Addressed some cases where we performed activations too frequently

  7. That is a great deal. I think I paid around $180 to move from Horizon to Mercury. I don't regret it.

  8. The UI is being updated to use vector graphics so it can be scalable and DPI aware. The button icons will likely be updated but will all be in the same place as before, so there should be zero changes to your workflow.

  9. PSP BINAMP BINSON ECHOREC SATURATION PLUGIN @ JRRShop ($41.16 with code GROUP) PSP BinAmp is a class โ€œAโ€ triode preamp emulation. The specific preamp's implementation is based on the legendary Binson Echorec 2 delay. Echorec 2 was one of a line of famous magnetic drum delays designed by Binson Amplifiers Company since 50s. The Echorec 2 was released in 1960 probably as the best sounding in the line. It had unprecedented quality compared to tape delays of the era, warmth and musical sound due to class โ€œAโ€ triode tube design of audio section and distinctive character. Although the entire machine, its sound and design was incredible PSP BinAmp grew from an inspiration of the ingenious sound of its preamplifier. https://www.jrrshop.com/psp-binamp More details (and to check your loyalty discounts): https://www.pspaudioware.com/products/psp-binamp

  10. Thanks for handling last night's latest spam-bot attack! ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ‘ Not even sure how many people saw it (about 11:30 pm PDT), but it disappeared fast enough! We're getting more of these *****hats lately. They've probably rediscovered this book (from2014)!

  13. Yeah, local help is the best workaround to the current web help issue and probably the best help format available from Cakewalk for most users. Re-introduced a year ago, it probably should be advertised a bit more given the circumstances. The chm is updated with every release and offers the same context sensitive help the web-based system does. The pdf does is not follow as regular an update schedule.

  27. probably everyone who has tried to access the pages since early Jun. Retrying may eventually load the page Fortunately, the pdf and chm (local help has been optional install since 2022.06) still work reliably. To use the chm instead of the web, in Preferences Edit > Preferences > File - Advanced select Always Use Local Help (one day this link may be useful)

  28. Yeah that looks like fairly uniform preamp noise. I'd almost certainly point to bad gain structure like I mentioned earlier.

  31. I went to the doc yesterday, got an x-ray to make sure no infection had made it into my bones (it hadn't) and was prescribed some heavy-duty antibiotics. I have to take the industrial-strength antibiotics because I've had a MRSA infection in the past. Main side effect is diarrhea. But I'm also taking opiated painkillers, whose side effect is constipation. I'm hoping they'll cancel each other out. Today I was able to put on socks and sandals. I'd been going barefoot, but sheesh, the concrete floor here in my garage is cold. Plus they frown on going barefoot into the drugstore. The real fun will come on Saturday, when I'll have to stand for 4 hours. Because I'm working pedals with my right foot (the one that's still working), that means 4 hours standing on one foot (the bad one). I'm considering adjusting my stand down and taking my folding piano bench, but I've never used my current stand that way and don't even know if it's doable. The alternative is taking along a stool and just have a little sit-down between songs. At least this gig's indoors. Always look at the bright side, to quote Monty Python.

  32. I'm trying it out now. Works great with very low CPU use. It has a granular mode but also a loop mode and a one-shot mode, so very versatile. The only problem is that the samples I drag are not being set to C but to G and there's no way to adjust that from the interface. EDIT: you need to the Root drop down to Auto. It wasn't working at first but when you set it to Manual and then back to Auto it works. This is my main one-shot sampler now.

  37. Are they still rusty sheriff badges though? I've got no rep cred any more but I've still got my made up perma warnings, so at least they haven't messed everything up. I'm trying to take on board the advice of The Lord ( all bow to the Timster) but honestly, talk about mending something that wasn't broken.............. That right side summary thing is awful. It's like one of those TV shows that spend half the time telling you what is coming next just before they re-tell you the bit you just watched.

  38. They've been doing their best to give us a hammering today too, actually, but luckily we have people in a lot of different timezones now (there was sometimes a gap here and there where they'd slip through) and we've managed to keep on top of it lately. The forum upgrade seems like it's definitely going to be helpful with getting rid of these pests a little easier!

  41. Funny this subject should come up; I was re-reading the link below yesterday. I do not keep up with tech much these days, but this still may be relevant to discussions about plug-in UIs and Open GL. This link starts in the middle of the thread where the interesting stuff starts (at least what I found interesting)

  43. Depends ...... For free - you can't beat Spitfire's BBC SO Discover as mentioned already https://www.spitfireaudio.com/bbc-symphony-orchestra-discover Also Project Sam who make the Symphobia series do a Kontakt Player ( also free ) instrument called The Free Orchestra https://projectsam.com/libraries/the-free-orchestra Then I would go and grab whatever else you need from Spitfire Labs https://labs.spitfireaudio.com/?sortBy=prod_products_labs_latest&page=5 All of this is no good unless you can orchestrate properly and can make best use of articulations and CC controllers for expression. Otherwise it will just be a nicer sounding robotic performance. Being able to mix and master this stuff is also part of the recipe To learn how to use these libraries better I'd recommend watching something like Cinematic Composing on Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/@CinematicComposing

  44. Actually, newer versions of Sonar or Cakewalk by BandLab have other dither options, such as POW-r 1, 2, and 3. I don't know much about the difference between triangle and rectangular dither, but these options are not noise-shaped dither. I usually use triangle dither when I dither to 24-bit. However, when I dither to 16-bit, I usually choose an algorithm that has a noise-shaping option, such as POW-r 3. Noise shaping means that the noise is often louder in higher frequencies and quieter in the mid or low range, which can sound more comfortable to the ears. Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference and the source material. The differences between dither algorithms are very subtle.

  45. See, this is my reasoning for a lot of the complaints too. REAPER is a great example for me - it's a fantastic DAW but man, do I ever plod in it because it just doesn't agree with me at all as far as workflow goes. I do marginally better in Studio One, but I keep returning to Cakewalk because I'm super fast in it and nothing (for me at least) gets between my brain and recording the idea (questionable talent notwithstanding ๐Ÿ˜’). There's definitely areas where CbB can be improved, of course, and I have a few thoughts about that also, but it really seemed like there was suddenly a bunch of people who have been biting their tongue about them because of the free thing, and now it's a problem. Are those things more than preferences? What am I missing? That's the question!
