HI:)2Pre-" As Base 57 mentioned: I've never heard a "very good" De-Esser, so I took a Dynamic EQ and do some "Pre-" Levelling with Clip-Automation. Then, if you have harmonies, you can blend "s" and "t" for the harmonies completely out, you only need one of the sybillances. I would use Melodyne for that! For sure only if Harmonies and Main Voice do sing the same lines;) Bassman.3 points

99 cents I can afford. It's the monthly subscriptions to UAD Spark for $19.99 (USD), billed monthly (annual subscriptions $149.99 (USD), billed yearly) that hits you after 3 months that hurts. I really wish UAD had come out with their native versions 5 to 10 years ago - I'd probably own all of it. At this point I'm too invested with other brands to consider reinvesting in stuff that does what stuff I already have does either equally well or well enough that no one listening to my music can tell the difference.3 points

You might know this fellow for his song Bad Things that was used as the theme for the TV show True Blood. That's a good tune, but not the only goodie on the superbly-produced Red Revelations album. It's in of my collection of references.3 points

For me, IK Multimedia Tape Machine 24 and Neold Warble are the best plugins to achieve that classic saturation character with Analog Synths emulations. 2 presets attached are one that i made in IK Tape 24 and then approximated its sound in Neold Warble. I'm biased, of course, but I think I put together a pretty extensive list of high quality free sample libraries that play in free players. I organized it by instrument type -- piano, electric piano, percussion, organ, synth, etc. My inspiration was seeing so many lists of free sample libraries and plugins where there was no way to discern the good from the bad. The reality is, a very high percentage of freebies are not great quality. Sifting through the bad ones to find the good ones is incredibly time consuming. So the value of my list is that it only contains sample libraries and soft synths that I've spent time with and found to be good quality and others add their recommendations to the list too. My motivation was to help those who are short on funds but love making music.2 points

JRR had a bad crash some time ago and "lost" a bunch of records. You may want to ask support, they may be able to reinstate the info. If you have the emails it will probably make it easier.2 points

It would be great to get a thread rolling with peoples' personal workflow/usability tips for Cakewalk. This could be anything: external controllers you use, special settings or features in Cakewalk that you use in a special way, a favorite pet that somehow enhances your inspiration (ok, maybe not that one.... then we'd all have to get a hamster?) or something else. I'm sure there are a lot of great ideas out there! 😃 My personal two workflow staples are: Custom keyboard binding: ALT + X for "Start/stop audio engine" I run CPU heavy projects all the time and I don't want my CPU to max out during all the breaks when the project is not running. I use this constantly. Custom keyboard bindings: numbers 1-7 for setting snap grid size to whole note, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32 and 1/64 note Also a complete life saver for all audio and MIDI editing. Also onstantly in use for me. I could fill a whole topic of my custom keyboard shortcuts... 😂1 point

I remember an original series episode along those lines. I forget the actors name that played the part of the creator of the AI, but I do remember he also played Dracula in the Blacula franchise in the 70s. He was a very good and underrated actor.1 point

I have these and I love them. However, you would need a subwoofer if you do (sub)bass heavy music. For $50 though, they are almost in no brainer territory. Mackie is a well respected brand.1 point

Agreed with the above thoughts, but I did find there is an option checkbox down the bottom that prevents the browser from closing each time you choose a preset. Sound-wise I feel it adds a slightly different (clean-ish?) flavor from other synths in my plugin stable though1 point

I own $5000+ in Arturia hardware, and a bunch of plugins / software instruments and my price is still $199. So someone who owns nothing could spent $50 and get the same collection. Customer appreciation FTW.1 point

Well I hope more people get to hear this. A vibe of Gordon Lightfoot but truly original, with a really cool video. I have travelled that touristy but highly recommended White Pass and Yukon Railway https://wpyr.com/ is this the area that your photographs come from? The entire mix works very nicely but I found that fiddle / banjo towards the end particularly uplifting, they didn't sound like VSTi's! Very well done! cheers, -Tom1 point

What you want is something that can both capture and remove a "noise print." Wav editors are best to do this (often stand-alone apps), but IIRC both Audacity and ReaFIR both have some capacity for this and are free.1 point

The more I see mixing tutorials all over the place, the more I agree on how EMI used to teach their engineers back in the day as mentioned by Peter Doell. They learned to master before they learned how to mix. The logic behind that is you learn how the finish line is supposed to be, then you learn how to get to the finish line. Otherwise, you start decorating cake recipes that don't apply to all cases and tend to get stuck. And this is exploited by marketing departments all over to the point of selling falseties as a problem that only secret sauce product X can solve.1 point
