  1. I find this browser add-on incredibly useful during these sales: https://github.com/m36/PA_owned Install, go to https://www.plugin-alliance.com/en/manage-plugins.html first before going to https://www.plugin-alliance.com/en/products.html. With this, I can easily see which plugins I own and which ones I don't.

  3. Seems some of you have missed the point of the piece. It's about persisting with something despite knowing you'll always be mediocre at it. Let's be real: that describes the vast majority of us here. (Don't be offended. I am using the word "mediocre" in its literal sense. It comes from the same root word as "median" and "medium". If there are a billion musicians in the world and you are good enough to blow away 500 million of them, then congratulations, you've successfully achieved the rank of "mediocre".)

  5. PSP Echo v.1.5.1 NEW: Native Apple Silicon AAX format. Scaling control with dropdown functionality added. Automation name of controls to hints added. FIXES: Track routing in Reaper for more audio channels than two. Minor bugs fixed. TO BE DONE: 1. Improving stability between VST3 version of the plugin and Ableton Live host application, 1) Log-in to your PSP account and go to My plug-ins section, 2) Download the installer appropriate for your operating system. You can overwrite the newer version over the old one so after downloading simply start the installer. 3) Restart your computer. 4) If needed you can always return to the earlier version.

  6. This is why everyone should grab a copy of the free tool AutoRuns from Systools and run it periodically. I recently noticed that the Pace driver was being loaded at boot, despite having uninstalled all products that use it. Not a big deal, as that driver doesn't actually do anything unless validating a license, but it's still irritating. And don't get me started on Acronis and its takeover of my computer.

  9. Ah, MModernCompressor, the neglected child of the MeldaProduction line. It was the first one of their plug-ins outside of the FreeFX bundle upgrade that I bought. It was $25 in a half-price sale, I had my 10 euro newletter sign-up credit I was new enough with compressors that the "automatic" parameter setting sounded interesting, and I was in the market for a compressor that was more capable than MCompressor. I did the same thing as @bitflipper, played around with it and truly couldn't make head or tail of it. It even lacked the great "moving line" dynamics display that MCompressor has, as well as the ability to make custom curves. I asked the people on the MeldaProduction forum what I needed to do to be able to use MModernCompressor and the impression I got from the responses seemed to indicate that most people who have a license got it as part of a bundle that also included MDynamics, so they kept trying to tell me how to use MDynamics to get the job done. Even Chandler, in his "all MeldaProduction compressors" round-up, glossed over it and when he did the wrap-up he said that he supposed he might use it for a voice over gig and paid no attention to its unique features. My determination to master this first pro compressor I had paid money for was great, but I still didn't have a handle on it. A couple of Melda forum regulars gave me advice (mostly that I should just get MDynamics). It was suggested that I not waste time messing about with the automatic settings feature and use the rolling display for compression visualization. Vojtech himself tried to explain what the dynamic distribution graph was for and how it worked, but no luck. I recently saw a post from Vojtech himself saying that nobody My deep dive revealed a cool feature that's front-facing (it exists in MDynamics, but it's 2 menus deep): there are various detector settings you can select, one of which is "psychoacoustic," which Vojtech says is supposed to mimic human hearing in some way. I tried it and really liked it. I've lobbied him many times to add the MCompressor dynamic display, but he's kind of given up on developing MModernCompressor. He admitted that hardly anyone can figure out the "automatic" settings thing. I finally did and found no use for it. It requires you to decide ahead of time what dynamic range you want, which is useless for music, because who decides that ahead of time? You just set the parameters of a compressor by memory and by ear. Who starts out saying "this vocal needs a dynamic range of 20dB?" It's a nice workhorse compressor for compressing. It has the clutter of that useless autocompression display, but has easy access to the detector settings, if those interest you. At this price, it's a good bundle coupon for MMixing and MMastering.

  10. I just noticed that Groove3 recently has released a two hour long 26 video tutorial called “Bandlab Cakewalk: Getting Started” (sic!). That’s the first new Cakewalk tutorial at Groove3 since “SONAR X3 New Features” was released some 10 years ago. At the same time, it seems like most of the old Cakewalk tutorials now have been removed, except for the aforementioned SONAR X3 video and tutorials for Rapture Pro and Z3ta+ 2. I think it’s great to see that CbB is finally getting some long overdue attention at commercial tutorial providers as well. I’m actually surprised that Groove3 hasn’t done it before, especially considering some of the rather esoteric videos that has been released there recently.

  14. Seriously though, UAD hardware based Unison plugins with an Apollo interface is the way to go. Recording a band, you want a Neve preamp for the guitar, API for the drums, Helios on the bass, Avalon, SSL or Manly on the vocals? Either printed to tracks or just monitored? No problem. You monitor thru UAD's Console app (not the DAW). DAW runs at 2048 buffers but the Console APP is "latency free". It's a joy to work in.

  15. I stand by my assessment of your claim (red flag # 1) both for what it says and for what it implies. In addition your new (not previously raised) corollary about websites that aren't (and are) designed to look good on mobile phones also says nothing about the quality of the products made available at that site. Yes, I disagree that website design correlates with product quality. I was also sharing my thoughts. One set of small points related to the website's automated response system and the developer's personal responsiveness: When I originally used the website I found that the automatic turnaround (acknowledgement / license / serial number) was fast and effective unlike many professional-looking sites with more modern website designs. When the developer took the initiative to send out an e-mail about a newly discovered issue with a plug-in stating what the issue was and what would be done to fix it, I took the opportunity to revisit the site and to try some of the other freebies. Again, the responsiveness of the website was fast and effective with one exception. When I e-mailed the developer that the website did not send out a similar acknowledgement / access reply for one of the products, he replied promptly and reported that he found the reason for the issue I called to his attention. When I looked immediately after getting the reply, it was fixed. The reply was not defensive or dismissive (unlike some replies I have seen and heard about from some huge companies with fancy websites.) As for your stated and implied points about mobile phones and using their website designs and functionality as standards to judge the professionalism of plug-in makers, I have used mobile apps from big budget international corporations that have very slick, very professional-looking websites that have major issues. In fact, I called several companies to try to work through some of the issues ("am I doing something wrong, or is it the app") and ended up with customer service duplicating the issues. By any chance did you write to the developer about the Infinity Synth and your concerns? If so, how did he respond? Also, did you try to give him your professional advice about his website design?

  16. I doubt they are doing anything nefarious either, however, they are, like many developers these days, fooled into believing that somehow they are making a positive impact on sales by fighting piracy (an industry of nefarious people who will never be customers anyway and just cost developers money wasted fighting piracy rather than giving customers extra savings or putting that money towards improving the development...) but I digress.

  18. I checked quick on that NTKDaemonService and saw comments about that chewing up CPU even with NA not running so I disabled it again after everything was updated. So many programs embed services into startup when you run them unfortunately, but that seems to be one to watch out for whenever you run NA. It seems its only purpose is for NA, so no reason to run it on boot anyway.

  19. Plugin Alliance have a bunch of good plugins and generally hold their own well against the usual competition. Some of their plugins are really good, otherwise definitely more than capable in any mix. Light on CPU (mostly!), much better licensing than lots of others too. Keep in mind with YouTube a lot of it is based off kickbacks and NFR licenses for a lot of content. For sure plenty aren't as well though and people will just use what they like, or what they know. Kirchhoff sounds better to me than ProQ3, DSM V3 is very cool and more unique (although takes a little read/time to work it out), Elyssia Alpha is a very good mid/side transparent compressor and clipper. Lisa is an awesome dynamic mastering EQ. Their channel strips normally compete very well while some of their channel strips are amazing, the Lindell TE-100 is a really nice warm analogy vibe sounding EQ. There's a bunch more, these ones just came to mind right then, so these won't even be my favourites 🤣 I wouldn't base too much on YouTube, just try them out. The majority of them are more then enough for daily use by pros and hobbyists alike. That said, I do see them reasonably often by pros on Youtube, so it just depends on who you watch.

  21. I spend a good amount of time moderating on the NI forum and have two thoughts; 1. I'm not updating to NA2(3) until the current NA1 completely becomes unsupported and they force me to... and 2. I'm really glad that I don't use a Mac anymore. 😁

  22. One apparent difference between Factory Libraries 1 and 2 is orchestral libraries. Factory Library (1) has a bunch of VSL instruments (Legacy and otherwise) plus a bunch more. Overall, there seem to be less orchestral instruments in FL2.

  23. As much as Plugin Alliance is certainly deserving of some criticism in regards to their product model (selling features from plugins as a brand new plugin you have to pay for), their installation process is the most painless one you'll find. You don't have to use their product manager if you don't want to. If you do, removing a plugin is a simple matter of going where it is installed and deleting it. No spring cleaning on leftovers, no annoying uninstallers that sometimes don't even work and so on.

  27. I bought MModernCompressor when it first came out, because that range control looked interesting. Turned out, dynamic range isn't something I even think about when setting up a compressor on individual tracks. I used it on a couple projects and haven't touched it since. I have two favorite compressors that cover every situation between them; the other dozen or so in my collection just take up space. That said, well hey, it's just 9 bucks.

  28. Hi Daryl , well those backing vocals were recorded three times (sound on sound)on one track then once again three times etc one another track and then panned left and right all choruses together (30 times) then the high backing vocals 4 times (20 times ) after that i lost count I think I may have copied and pasted towards the end of the song and panned down the middle... once i find the right harmonie its easy to dupilcate ..nice cup tea to pull me through and off i go ....I also have a pre vocal warm up track that takes about twenty minutes really saves the day... unbelivable... thanks for commenting cheers paul

  30. Yes and no. I have an issue where the CPU usage shoots to 500% - 1000% (yes, it is possible) which grinds the audio to a halt when I use another application in fullscreen mode while. They could replicate it and filed a bug report, but no solution yet.

  33. Very nice job getting all those photos out of the album and into a video. I like the references to the technology back then. Weird how VCRs and DVD players were so high tech and now they're becoming ancient history in our life time. One crit: maybe too much zooming in the video? -Bjorn

  37. My biggest concern with these tools (across the board) has been the propensity of people to be lazy and never even try to learn the skill these tools are helping them with. That lack of skill set is a significant liability that most do not realize until it rears its ugly head on them. "AI" has become more of a buzzword and I have gotten into system discussions arguing that scripting has been around a long time, and having one update parameters based on usage does not make it "intelligent," it is still at the mercy of the person(s) who scripted it in the first place. This news article made me remember this thread and is the embodiment of lazy. Someone paid top dollar to do work, but presenting something (fictional) compiled by ChatGPT, then getting caught. [@Grem TOP!!! LOL]

  38. To delete a phantom envelope, Shift+click on the envelope (to give it focus), then right-click the envelope and select "Delete Envelope" in the popup menu. One way a phantom envelope can be created is if you draw an automation envelope for a plug-in and then delete the plug-in without deleting the automation envelope first. The envelope then becomes "orphaned" and shows up in the track view even though it no longer controls anything. To see which envelopes are orphaned, open Automation Lanes. The valid automation envelopes will move to the Automation Lane, leaving behind the orphaned envelopes. I don't know of a way to delete them all at once. You may have to Shift-click and delete them one at a time. But you should be able to see them all.

  40. I found a used iTrack Solo Interface (Focusrite) from Sam Ash for $45. This clean, sweet, little box does everything it's supposed to do. Email support was fast, courteous, and technically right on. I am plugged in and rockin' with guitar and keyboards. No latency issues at all. The MidiPlus Smartface II I bought earlier this week ($38) is going back to Amazon tomorrow. Although they tried, Hung Lee and his Asian friends couldn't get the download links to work for me. Is this thread good enough, or should it go somewhere else for others to find? We've come so far from the original title I posted.
