Whoo, it's finally there! I've been editing Wikipedia for years but had never created an original article. Quite the learning experience. I also went around to the various lists of audio software and company pages and updated them to link to this article. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cakewalk_by_BandLab6 points

Interesting indeed, meaning they can now kill your cpu with only one knob? sporting a gui which spits out cpu cores as you crank the knob. 🙂4 points

This is great. Maybe this http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=Introduction.30.html could use a little rewrite.4 points

I agree that I get a twinge every time I see it, but if I'm honest that's because I've taken advantage of Beat magazine's freebies without buying the issues. Not from hints in the forum, but via hacking the clues via context. In this case, I did buy the issue because while I was horking the freebies, I noticed that the issue was devoted to a favorite topic of mine, actually finishing things. It was worth dropping some coin to get some hints about that. The topic title should more accurately read "No software piracy please." I give the @Wookiee a break, he's got a tough, mostly thankless task in moderating the forum. He saw a bud forming and nipped it. Also letting any involved companies who might get alerted to the goings-on that BandLab have taken steps to discourage it. Cakewalk is already virtually invisible to these magazines, so they don't need to make it worse (not that it could be any worse in that regard). We were kinda being bad boys, IMO. Beat and CM and the software companies that offer up these premiums have been important to my development as a mix engineer. Magazines have a hard row to hoe these days, and Beat just took the step of expanding into the English language market. It's hard to hang on to my ethics when A|A|S soundpacks are dangled, though. 😂3 points

TheZhe has released TheSplit, a free multimode splitter plug-in, in VST3/AU format for macOS (M1 Apple Silicon supported) and Windows. L&H: "Low & High" mode uses a crossover to split audio in the frequency domain. 3.) A&S: "Attack & Sustain" mode uses a transient splitter to split audio in the time domain. 4.) L&S: "Loud & Soft" mode uses a gate to split audio in the amplitude domain. Price: Free. https://www.kvraudio.com/product/thesplit-by-thezhe3 points

This library came with SampleTank 4 MAX, but appears to be an older ST3 legacy preset collection. At least that's what the instrument edit page in ST4 indicates when you load a preset. Haven't really ever used it, as I also have Syntronik with zillions of synth presets. ST4 MAX also included tons of new synth presets in its core factory library. Spice up your tracks with this massive collection of dancefloor-ready synths! Including SampleTank Custom Shop! Be the future of dance music with Future Synths, a great sounding dancefloor-ready SampleTank instruments collection. With it you’ll have a lifetime’s worth of sound design knowhow at your fingertips. It gives you an absolutely huge collection of easy-to-use synthesizer sounds that’ll cut through any mix right out of the box — no tweaking required! You get 150 instruments, 150 MIDI patterns and 4 multis that all combine to create a sonically powerful toolkit that has everything you need to create hard-hitting, hands-in-the-air dancefloor anthems in every electronic dance music genre from stadium EDM to underground techno….and beyond. Primarily inspired by the sonic palette of top-tier DJ/producers like Tiesto, Hardwell and Afrojack, Future Synths gives you the sound of tomorrow, today. Its 150 instruments are grouped into 6 convenient categories, with a versatile range available in each: You get 40 clean and crystalline leads, 40 monster synth basses, 25 euphorically atmospheric pads, 30 upbeat plucks and 15 truly crazy FX. In addition to these synth sounds, you also get 150 MIDI patterns that have been programmed by IK’s resident team of expert dance music engineers to help kick start your creativity and set you on the path towards your next big hit. And while Future Synths has been influenced by EDM, the sheer quality of its sounds also makes it a perfect tool for producers working in other, more underground electronic music genres like Trap, Dubstep, House, Garage, Trance and Techno. It also makes for a great creative complement for Pop, Hip-Hop and Rock productions. Future Synths is exclusively available for SampleTank, the ultimate sound and groove workstation, or the included SampleTank Custom Shop!2 points

I am currently resurecting old original tracks from early 90s. I had the Cakewalk .wrk files on zip discs. Most of them used SOUNDFONTS and for the most part all of them are on the ZIP Discs also. I am using this FREE SF player in CW and works a treat. SFs can be dragged / dropped to the I/F https://www.kvraudio.com/product/bassmidi-vsti-by-falcosoft Whats refreshing about it is the quality of the SFs is very good AND I can do something that I cannot do resource wise with Kontakt. Load that SF vst on 14 tracks so far w/o causing any pressure on my system. Very very light on resources2 points

True, I have Thorn CM, and it can sure make some interesting sounds! I'm not convinced that I need the full Thorn dealio yet. Of course I'm sure a little of the Thorn CM sprinkled lightly here and there will provide some extra flavor!2 points

Hi everyone. The Cakewalk Web Installer has now been officially released. To download it, choose Download and then pick the Cakewalk Installer instead of BandLab assistant. Note that once you have Cakewalk installed all subsequent updates can be done directly from within the application via Help | Check for updates. Notifications for available updates are also automatically shown by default. There is no need to use BandLab assistant now unless you wish to do offline authorization for Cakewalk, or you want access to BandLab loops.2 points

Note that even if you have bought into the GB, you can still bump up the numbers by buying one of the newer releases such as Fractionate, and MIDI Mod.1 point

More stuff on their website https://bertom.gumroad.com/ some quite interesting I'd say with the EQ analyzer you can, for example, make sure that both your vintage analog Pultecs can work as a matched pair 🤣🤣 Air Shelf is a little genus idea1 point

@PhonoBrainer I have to confess Tom I am not a fan of pseudo vinyl noise, it irritates the { insert expletive of your own personal choice here } sorry. The opening piano is cool and does not need a supporting act of scratchy noise, just my own personal furry opinion. As for the rest of the song when the bass kicks in nice groove you have going on that bass, sounds like it might have a bit of dirty Wurli supporting it? Are the horns to in the face not for me the sound OK here on the Adam's1 point

I just hope it’s not a trend like pin 2 - “stop bashing WUP”, pin 3- “No bad jokes allowed”, pin 4- “no developer bashing in comments”, pin 5-“no politics”, etc. I understand the intent but maybe a pin that links to forum rules is better? Anyway, said my peace, will live with the pin, won’t mention it again, and will finish my song about being stung by a pin hahaha.1 point

I'm not going to argue with people not able to understand the fundamental issues or able to engage intelligently and in a civil manner. I'll just make a final point. The problem that Young has isn't about someone's right to free speech. His issue is with commercial interests profiting from actively engaging in disseminating disinformation. Young simply took a stand that he doesn't want to affiliate with an organization doing that. Several years ago a popular news network tried to recruit me to be a commentator on their network. I refused them. Not merely because they're a hyper-partisan network but because they profit off of spreading disinformation and exploit and further hateful biases of their viewers (research makes it easy to appeal to thus group using those biases; it's 24/7 confirmation bias manipulating q poorly educated viewers and I won't be part of that), bogoted tropes and racial and cultural division to their non-college educated audience that eats that stuff up (I grew up working class and despise billionaires or anyone with power / a voice manipulating this group). I've taken money for speaking engagements for groups that are on the same side as them politically, but my line in the sand is organizations that willfully engage in disinformation. So I greatly respect Young. You don't have to agree with the guy's politics to respect that this is someone who doesn't want to be affiliated with an organization that actively engages in and greatly profits from the dissemination of disinformation. He made a decision that will cost him 60% of his annual income. IMO, that's character. Regardless of whether or not you share Young's views on anything else, that is character and I think that any person of integrity can respect that. That's the end of this thread for me. Try to listen to each other and show respect. We can disagree and still respect one another. Otherwise, there's no point to having a discussion.1 point

FunkBass is a free sample-based virtual instrument plugin for DAWs and other plugin host software running on Windows and macOS. FunkBass was designed as a fast & light but solid tool to create simple bass lines in musical genres such as Pop, EDM, Funk Soul, RnB, and more. If you are looking for a virtual bass with tons of techniques, articulations, nuances, and effects, FunkBass is not for you – there are already dozens of such commercial plugins on the market. Our plugin is for those who prefer a simplified approach to “real” virtual bass and at the same time are aware that a virtual bass will never sound like a physical one. Inside you will find 8 bass presets sourced from a bass guitar, a decent set of playing techniques and effects: finger, slap, pick, chorus, fretless, fuzz, low, and sub. All of these patches can be selected from the top menu, also you have access to a basic filter with high/low cut, attack & release envelope, as well as gain and pan. There’s also included an LFO modulation section with LFO speed & depth knobs and wave type, source, and destination selectors. FunkBass is available as a VST/VST3 plugin for Windows and VST/VST3/AU plugin for macOS (El Capitan to Mojave, NOT compatible with Catalina and up). https://www.audiolatry.com/funkbass/1 point
