  1. BlueLab Audio Plugins has discontinued the d of their products. The site will remain online for a while, but without technical support on plugins. The price of each plugin is now set at $0 as long as the site stays online. The latest non fully tested beta versions are available too. https://bluelab-plugs.com/plugins/

  2. Everything is relative. A "potential" additional reduction of $5 or $10 is chump change compared to my investments in my DAW laptop, DAW software, audio interface, MIDI keyboard controller, 4 basses, 1 guitar and a couple of amplifiers. A software app either does something beneficial for you or it doesn't. If it does, is it worth the asking price? For me, Scaler is worth it at list price, so any sale price is icing on the cake. The last thing I need is to wait for a more deeply discounted sale price, only to have it return to full price and missing out on the savings that were offered. THAT would really toast my buns. I purchased Scaler 1 when it was released. With the possible exception of Studio One Pro, which I first purchased as version 2, Scaler's regular updates have added more value than any other music software app I've ever purchased, and I've purchased a LOT of them.

  4. So the key is to buy everything so you can't buy anything? I wonder if my wife would go for that reasoning.

  5. Nope and it doesn't make elaborate claims to do so. What it could do is: 1. Aid you in coming up with chord progressions you might not have come up with on your own, particularly ones not typical of genre you are working with. 2. Assist you in mapping out borrowed chords from modal that make it easier to learn and compose in new ways that go beyond the usual cookie cutter methods used in pop music. 3. Detect scales that may not be obvious and suggest musical directions that might inspire.

  6. Actually I'd argue that given all you've already got, you can't justify not having Kontakt by now.

  10. Mind you, I play piano, not keyboard (important distinction) - but hey, just what I would expect a guitar player to say. I recently picked up guitar (and made some sounds), and it is definitely the more difficult instrument to learn and play well, which is why I'll make sure to use every opportunity to decrease guitarists' happiness. I'm not jealous, I just think it's Zen.

  19. As far as I am concerned, the QVOs work great for samples. From what I remember, they have a slower write time than other, more expensive SSDs, but their read time is on par as more expensive versions. So, since I typically write once only, this is a fine tradeoff for saving $. I've enjoyed my QVO drives so far.

  25. The Fluffy Cello is set up in the same way as the Fluffy Woodwinds, and I have all of them. They really make nice solo instruments. Nobody does them quite the way they do. Extremely playable and very easy to customize. The cello has some presets--different kinds of reverb settings, etc. That's not too common. You get visual feedback while you're playing. You can adjust the legato with a visual display. So it's not just some little thing with no features. It's made with loving care by people who love music. And it really sounds good. We are lucky that so many nice products like these are around at every price point.

  30. Upgraded the acoustic bundle (in other words, getting the new Dry Relic Guitar), for $63.00! That was pretty cool. Although it said the sale didn't apply to the Dry Relic, it certainly did to the upgrade of the bundle, so how about that loophole?

  35. The only way I've ever been able to get into a hardware control is to ban using a mouse, and force myself to use the controller. It's always uncomfortable at first, but once you learn it, it's worth the effort. I think a lot of people underrated Pro Channel modules like the QuadCurve because it was "free." The ProChannel modules are by and large excellent (and regarding those that aren't available any more, they were by and large excellent). They're my go-to processors in Cakewalk, and not just because I like staying in a DAW's ecosystem as much as possible.

  38. All you basically need to do for assurance is to test boot with the USB recovery drive. Select "Restore" and make sure that you can access a usable image file. And then cancel before starting the actual restore. No need to go swapping in spare drives to test the restore on, unless you really want to. Macrium is very reliable when it comes to making images, but there is one additional step that you can add to the image definition. Go to "Advanced Settings" and select "Auto verify image" and check the box to verify the file directly after creation. This will double the time that it takes your image job to complete, but you will be extra secure in knowing that you have a usable image file! I leave that enabled on all of my image jobs.

  42. Actually, I went to a GC one day just to browse and came across a very pretty white Squire Strat with a maple neck. I played it through a Boogie Mini Recto head with a 1x12 cab with Celestion in it. Anyway, the GC salesman was trying to sell me the amp and cab, but I was so impressed with the Squire that I told him leave me alone, I may not buy the amp and cab, but I ain't leaving without the guitar! I ended up getting them all! When I got the guitar home I did what I normally do, put my strings on it and give it a good clean up. When I took the pickguard off, I was totally blown away that it had conductive shielding paint all on the inside!! Then I noticed that the pickups were Seymour Duncan single coil sized humbers!! I also noticed that the tremolo was a knock off of a Floyd Rose floating trem!! The pickguard was 5 layers, in a type of MOP swirl, definitely not the standard issue on a Squire. Then I got to looking at the paint, this was not a regular Fender white. More of a pearl color. I am even thinking they did some kind of fret work on it also because it is just so smooth!! So I concluded that somebody bought a Squire, fixed it up, then sold it to GC for whatever reason. Some salesman over there saw a Squire label on the headstock and placed a $200 price tag on it!! This thing plays like a dream!! Sounds fantastic!! It will never leave my possession I can tell you that!

  43. Europa is the smallest of the Galilean moons of Jupiter, and is also the one most likely conducive to supporting life. I got most of the images and video clips from Pixabay and some I bought at iStock. I Photoshopped a couple of scenes together making Iceland a moon of Jupiter. This project started off as music, but as the story line developed the soundtrack became more tied in to the video. Not sure if I can call it a story line since I made it up as I went along, one thing suggesting another. The ending is pretty much what you want it to mean. I had to read the manual for DaVinci Resolve for some of the FX. I just barely scratched the surface for all that this program can do. Thanks for watching/listening/commenting. -Bjorn

  49. Just gave your new mix a listen, it's awfully good. Love the bass tone, you're going to have to tell me how you get that sound. I think you nailed it with the organ mix. Everything is nice and spacious. If I'd change anything I'd bring the lead vocal up just a hair, but that's a subjective thing I think. As always, great vocal performance. You have a really good set of pipes and you use them to great effect here. Loved the arrangement. It's pretty busy what with the guitar, the vocal and the bass all playing around at the same time. The guitar on the left still threatens to dominate the mix. This is a good one!
