  1. The company name is "Indiginus", not "indigenous". It's a pun on "in digital". It does not imply that the samples have been co-opted from some ancient Inuit tradition. Note that he's wisely never released a library of snowmobile sounds, thus avoiding any potential controversy.

  2. If a person wishes to use their native tongue in these forums so be it. There is no part of the TOU that state one must speak English so those requiring the OP to use English you are somewhat out of line. Keep it polite people or this thread will be locked .

  3. I admire anyone that understands more than one language. I wish I did. I consider it a personal short coming on my part that I don't. This forum is for anyone that uses Cakewalk. Not everyone is a an English speaker. Thus as long as a member can answer in the language a question is asked in I think it would be great if we that are limited by having only one language be a little more tolerant. For the rest of us there are solutions for translating if we wish to do so. I have noticed many helpful members supply a translation often. That should be enough.

  6. This is getting better.... I think this is one of the longest Early Access before release, means Dev team really carefully work in detail. Couldn't wait for the final release. So exciting. Keep up the good hard work. I thank you all for everything. Thumbs up!

  7. That was my impression. May be adding "preferred communication language is English" to the TOU as well as one single "International" board (for those who don't want or can't use English, threads like this one can be moved there instead of deleting or confusing some people) is a good idea. But that is up to BandLab. I am so used to be in multi-lingual environment (up to 5-6 different languages in parallel within one room) that I don't feel anything unusual once someone write/speak in any language (known or unknown for me). But I understand that can be confusing (as it was for me 25+ years ago). What I find really confusing is proposal "please write in English" (written in English) to someone who has used some other language... And even more confusing the same proposal to someone who has replied using the language of the question... That make no sense for me (unlike for example a suggestion to repeat the question in English, written in original language).

  9. Spent some more time with it, and I guess my earlier impression was not fairly obtained. When testing a creative effect, I often fire up a MIDI file with some long Xpand!2 pad chords playing and run through the presets. This usually works pretty well, but sometimes it doesn't for FX that reward more abrupt envelopes. While SILO can bring something to the table with that kind of source material, if y'all ain't entirely sure what it's good for (and how could you be), put a rhythmic loop through it and stand back. I think the presets may have been designed around drum loops to put you in that "give me this thing NOW" frame of mind. Because doing that made me very happy for my $14.99 purchase and turned it into something other than just a possibly fun card in my Unfiltered Audio Pokemon deck. Tips: go to UfA's SILO resources page, where they have a bunch of videos that aren't on the PA site about how to use this thing. The "Oddiction" presets that they link to from the page are already included with the install along with the Richard Devine set. However, this YouTube review includes a collection of 40 presets free for the downloadin'. Although the guy seems to think the plug-in is as well-suited to mangling Ali G impressions as I think it is for drum machines, his presets sound great. He gets some cool Dumpster Fire-ish sounds in his demo after he gets past Da Ali G.

  11. Benefits? The fact that BandLab is finally recognizing people within its sphere certainly feels good. We have already spoke about doing some giveaways (cash prizes as well as some other goodies). Likewise, we get to help shape the direction that the company is going based off of what I report from the community. As with most creator based ventures, the benefits are reciprocal, and so long as the creator with whom they’ve partnered with has the best interests of their preexisting audience… then everyone should benefit in some way. I assure you, I want to help as many people as I possibly can. This has been evident by the amount of work I put into my channel and the plethora of things I have been giving away for years now. Hope this helps!

  12. All kidding aside, I'm hoping it will last 5 more years, then I'll probably only need one more upgrade to last the rest of my life because by that time I'll own ever plugin known to man and aliens alike and most likely will only WUP after that (just to get in Fleer's craw).

  16. I saw a number of updates for the Play Series of Kontakt Instruments (Analog Dreams, Ethereal Earth, Hybrid Keys, Lo Fi Glow, Modular Icons, etc). Not all updates addressed the same issues, but some of the common ones were an issue with notes hanging and others with the tape simulator causing dropouts.

  18. The developer seems intent on following his own path for licensing and authentication, rather than following any industry standards. His way is better (or so he believes). For this last upgrade merry-go-round, I had to: 1. Use the unzip password to decompress the downloaded installer folder. 2. Then I had to run the "install.exe", which asked me what paths to install everything to. Since I always use a "Fathom" folder in "My Documents" for everything except the plugin .dll, it did all the work correctly for me. I assume that the installer adds to, or overwrites Fathom content files as needed in that target "Fathom" folder. 3. Then I had to "activate" the plugin itself with my email address, and my original Fathom Pro order number. Then all was well. Until next time, LOL!

  22. That's the point. A 64-bit CPU communicates based on the length of 64 bits (or multiples thereof). Be it busses or address registers. Everything can be done on 64-bit wide communication. But that's the hardware side of things. On the software side of things, apps at all times use data types, that are totally detached from a processor's architecture. We wouldn't have seen the game Elite, which used 32-bit data types although running on a 16-bit processor architecture. Cakewalk internally uses certain data types to represent audio samples. A sample in dsp is the smallest slice of data in audio streams, a sample point. Because recording audio is done by getting a sample of the original every x seconds, where x is usually very small, like 44100 times per second. The value of a sample is a representation of how strong it makes the membrane of your speaker/headphone/etc deflect outwards or inwards, which is why it is considered to be in the range of -1 and +1, and so naturally such a number will have quite a few digits at times. In the past, for example when working with 16-bit data types, this was less of an issue, because the number was actually stored as a so called 16-bit signed integer, in the range -32768 to +32767. But that means, you only have 65536 descrete steps to represent a sound wave's "curviness". And so DAWs soon switched to using what's called a single-precision floating point format, or single float in short. This is a format that instructs the CPU about the actual value, instead of really being a value by itself. It is 32-bits wide, and this range is divided into 3 fields, the sign, exponent and mantissa. The CPU uses a single to do this calculation: -1^sign * 2^(exponent-127) * 1.mantissa the sign is 1 bit, the exponent 8 bits, and the mantissa 23 bits. To pass this scary part, let's just say, both exponent and mantissa are limiting. This format can't represent every possible value. And so the cpu rounds numbers to nearest neighbor, if the exact value can't be reached. This makes things imprecise on edge cases. For example, a sound wave's value could become a very small number instead of 0. And many more unwanted effects. When using "64-bit engine", Cakewalk switches the whole audio stream pipelines to so called double-precision floating point format, or double float in short. A double is 64-bits wide and its exponent is 11 bits wide and its mantissa 53 bits wide. This is still error-prone, but now there is way more headroom, before inaccuracies appear. This higher precision of course means, that everything takes a tiny bit longer to calculate and the memory usage of course is higher. Both is of no concern if your PC is a rather recent one, say, 5 years old. You also get a higher dynamic range (but of course only inside Cakewalk). As soon as you render to anything other than 64-bit, you will raise the noise floor again. So just use 64-bit engine mode, whenever you want (best, by activating it via Edit > Settings > Audio > Driver settings, I'm on the German version, so the path might be named a bit differently in English), the downside is neglectable and the higher precision will yield more accurate results (even if often we won't notice them).

  23. There was a new password for v3. It has unlocked every v3 update so far. I used to toss a coin in the update fountain every second or third update, but that seems to be gone now that you can update through the app itself. The update mess still exists. The install app looks like it hangs (I needed to manually copy the .DLL into my VSTPlugins folder (the Install app hung; there's a note saying to install into a writable folder; all other plugin installers have no problem writing to the C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins folder)). And it still creates all new directories with a " 2" appended to each. No clue which, if any, files were updated, so I just deleted all of the old folders and deleted the " 2" from each folder name. A real Bass-o-matic approach to updating.

  28. Yep, the dev finally took the links down on the site. I guess he still needs to clean up the page and point users to this tidbit of useful info. You can check for upgrades from within Fathom now, and it will provide you with a link. This feature has been available in the Fathom GUI for a while now. Just start Fathom, and go to settings. Check for upgrades, and it will compare your current version with the latest available. If there's a new one, click copy link to clipboard, and paste into your browser. Works great!

  31. I touched something and my Cakewalk screen went crazy. A screenshot is below. It looks like it undocked the Multidock and moved it to the top of the screen with the basic Cakewalk underneath. I can't get to any controls at the top to re-size or re-dock. I guess it's because I don't have the recomended screen size. I will try to adjust my screen settings. Maybe then I can fix it. Is there a shortcut for "Undo Crazy Screen Configuration"?

  32. Well done on getting the woofer replacement, I don't usually think along those lines here in Oz because such components can be hard to source here. I still use the G3 Rokit 5's. I have tried replacing them with other speakers but come straight back to them. I have a smaller area that is not really acoustically well set up in which to do music/video production. The Rokits are great because you can at least get a good balance of bass and treble at low or high volumes even with the 3 foot triangle I have set up. They don't aggravate tinnitus, you have control over high and low frequencies anyway so you can set up a pleasant balanced sound at low volumes. You can also turn them up if you want to stand back a bit. No other speaker I have tried comes even close to providing that sound in my space, in fact many were just unusable. It might be different if I was able to set up a 5 foot triangle in a dedicated room. I don't kid myself that I have the ultimate mixing setup but the Rokits allow me to do whatever editing I want with video or music all day long if I want without broken ears and with the best balanced sound I can get in the space I have and the results are fine for my uses. Yes, I would love to have 8 inch speakers in a dedicated sound dampened and insulated area with a tuned system but truthfully, even in that environment I would probably use the Rokits at low volume for most of the time in sorting out sounds etc and then use the biggies for final mixing.

I do see an increased (doubled) load with the latest version. Amplitube 5 - (tested with VST3) v5.0.3 Audio processing 0.8%; Engine load 5-8% v5.1.1 Audio processing 1.8; Engine load 10-15%

  36. I agree. My contribution was just to explain what is actually meant with a rather non-explaining term like "64-bit engine". Wether you see a need to use it or not, is everyone's personal decision. If you don't mind dc-offsets, denormals and other symptoms caused by it, leave double precision off. It of course is not doubling your memory usage, as it's just the engine that uses a 64-bit value instead of a 32-bit. I doubt you will even notice a memory difference, since apps are dynamically allocating and releasing memory. But yes, if concerned about some bytes of memory, while loading your 60 GB string library, don't use it. Yes, 32 bit is just fine with audio streams. If all audio streams had 32-bit each. Unfortunately, you're mixing like 40 tracks to just one stereo track, which would benefit so much from double precision while mixing. But if you're frightened of 64-bit data types, you better don't use it. Yes, do the blind A/B test. Erm, wait a second, you do this on your hardware, don't you? The hardware, that never gets in touch with 64-bit precision, but gets down-rendered audio, like 24-bit @ 44.1 kHz? Maybe even dithered? So you don't listen to 64-bit audio, but 24-bit or maybe even 16-bit audio, which says nothing about the 64-bit precision within your DAW. So what's the test then for? Ah, probably to see if your hardware really doesn't make a difference between 24-bit and 24-bit! Yes, that makes sense. In other words, using an apple to judge the quality of a banana. And of course, let's not forget that some years ago, it was 16 bit @ 44.1 kHz, that was considered the best possible audio. Yet, most studios expect you to deliver 24-bit @ 48 kHz nowadays. How strange that we have to work with formats that are better than the best possible audio format. Don't progress, I say, let's keep things, where they were. Like 40 years ago, when OS developers stated "640 kB of RAM is enough". And it was. For like half a year. Then things progressed. With bitflipper and my remarks, you now have a lot of personal opinions, which you can either use or not, to decide wether to use 64-bit precision or 32-bit precision, when calculating numbers.

  37. Another great song here Barry ! Enjoyed this immensely. You've got that driving folk sound you were going for, but seems more electric folk ? At first I wanted to hear more high end in that driving rhythm guitar, but it works in well as the song goes along. Your vocals are so well sung, and clear through all of the song, you have a great and strong voice in this one. Also, really like the driving bass guitar line, you might even reinforce that descending bass part that you use throughout with another electric guitar going along with it, that's got some hook to it for my ears . . . it works OK on headphones, but if you accentuate it with an octave up guitar part, it would work even better with the speaker listen. That's minor stuff . . . overall, it's just an excellent listen !

You're gonna be pleased that all your old SONAR projects will open in CbB just fine (as long as plugin paths haven't changed) everything you learned about SONAR still applies, so there'll be very little you'll have to figure out if you don't uninstall X3, you'll still have all the SONAR extras (e.g. Addictive Drums, R-Mix, Rapture) CbB is more stable than X1 through X3 - Noel drives the bus now, not marketing geeks there are lots of useful new features since BandLab took over (e.g. arranger view, articulation maps) John is still here
