  4. I realize that you were asking Larry, but I just wanted to share that I really love a lot of the KLANG libraries. I've downloaded the freebies and also paid for some (they're really inexpensive, small sound design libraries). Check out the demos and you'll know if it's to your liking or not. But I really like what Cinematique Instruments is doing with this line.

  5. You can leave a spreadsheet with license keys to your heirs. I can see my grandkids getting emails "Russ, congratulations on having been a NI user for 75 years. Check out these great savings on Komplete 37". Or whatever they use to send messages in the future.

  6. I already own Total Studio Max 2, which includes ST3 Max. I already own SampleTank 4 I already own ALL the additional products that are included in SampleTank 4 Max (and then some) My cost to upgrade to ST4 Max is $149? (And THAT PRICE is "on Sale"?) By the SAME token I already own Amplitube 4 Max, Amplitube 5 SE, and ALL the "add-ons" except Satriani, and THAT is besides owning Total Studio Max, which includes ANOTHER Amplitube 4 Max, and my cost to update to Amplitube 5 Max is is $299? How can IK NOT see the SHEER AND UTTER STUPIDITY of their business model? It's mind numbing!

  7. At Audiodeluxe. At checkout, it automatically applied a discount code that brought the price down to $26. This is a bundle of three percussion instruments, for foot stomps, claps and finger snaps. The regular $80 price is a bit unrealistic, but for $26 it'll be a useful addition to my percussion toolbox. I'm starting to like such little single-purpose percussion instruments. Skaka was also a recent purchase, an easy-to-use hand-percussion looper. I bought it on a whim because it was cheap but ended up using it a LOT. Unfortunately, its $25 intro price is done now and it's currently double that. Still a cool little plugin, though, and worth watching for it to go on sale again. [EDIT] Note that it's also $29 direct from Boz. I should have checked there beforehand, as I've no problem paying $3 more for a more convenient buying experience.

  9. Kirk Hunter has just released Traveling Pianos for Kontakt. It is a collection of two Yamaha pianos: Kirkโ€™s very own G5, along with a very special C7 belonging to Michael Lehman Boddicker, and has been played by many wonderful artists, namely Burt Bacharach, James Horner, and many more. It is available at an intro price of $99. More info here: https://www.kirkhunterstudios.com/products/traveling-pianos/ Kirk Hunter Studios | Traveling Pianos | First Look

  11. Whatever. Maybe I exaggerated, but it's impossible to know what the percentage is, as nobody has done an exhaustive study. But the issue really is about the companies we like to buy stuff from. Do they allow it? For starters, these companies do NOT allow resales: 8dio - ArtVista - Auddict - Audio Bro - Audio Imperia - Bela D Media (stated in EULA) - Big Fish Audio (source: EULA) - Cinematic Strings - Cinesamples - EastWest - Fable Sounds - Garritan - Ilya Efimov (source: EULA) - In Session Audio (source: EULA) - Light and Sound (source: EULA) - Loops de la Crรจme (source: EULA) - Musical Sampling - Orchestral Tools - Performance Samples (source: EULA) - Realitone (but has 30 day refund policy) - Red Room Audio (source: EULA, this thread itself) - Sample Logic (stated in EULA) - Sonokinetic - Spitfire Audio - Strezov Sampling (source: VIControl thread, EULA) - Vir2 - Virharmonic - Wallander Instruments - Zero-G (stated in EULA) Also, there are companies that do allow resale but charge a LOT more money than IK--like VSL. Or they only allow it on a case-by-case basis, like Soundiron, Spectrasonics, etc. I think that it is unusual to find companies that make transfers painless, like NI and Orange Tree Samples and IK do. In many cases, a lot of emails are required.

  14. I'm part of a Sonar Facebook group that I am seriously considering leaving. Every couple of days someone asks the same f****ing question: "I've been using Sonar (1 - 8.5) on my (Win XP-Win 8) machine but I don't know if I should upgrade to CbB or Win10? What's the catch?" You can only 'friendly' respond so many times before the answer becomes.....just f****ing bite the bullet and upgrade....you don't need a f****ing forum to make the decision for you. Do some f*****ing research....seriously XP???? *I'll go have a drink now.

  19. WAY easier to just top and tail an exported track in a wave editor. Lot's of free wave editors out there. I use Wave Lab ( $100) but I also use Gold Wave which is free to use with nag screen http://www.goldwave.ca/ There's also Audacity and Sound Forge. Cakewalk is your multitrack tape deck, A wave editor is for mastering. Just open or drag and drop the file and in 2 quick mouse moves delete and unwanted material from beginning and end. Cakewalk cant ever export exactly what I want.

  21. I've used it. It's OK. Like Pollux warns, use it gently for best results. There are actually better solutions out there for spectral ducking, but all are more expensive and/or more difficult to use than Trackspacer.

  24. I have it and like it very much. You just have to be careful not to over use it. works nicely for me to make room for the kick on the bass track, and to make room for the vocals on heavy guitar tracks.

  26. MODO Bass is better than any of the sample libraries I have for bass. I still use Amplitube over Guitar Rig in most cases. The Mesa Boogie collection is really good. I also Like the Princeton, Wampler effects, Fulltone collection and a few others. I use a few of the compressors in T-Racks, mostly the 1176. I don't care much about their samplers and sampled contents, although I will say that if you are doing an 80s production, the Hugh Padgham drums will work nicely.

  27. CPU power should not be an issue at all with fast bounce irrespective of 64 bit, since the bounce speed is gated by the CPU power available. If there were clicks its likely one of the plugins introducing them. Perhaps you can try disabling the plugins one by one to try and find at what point the clicks stop.

  28. HALion Sonic SE is the Steinberg equivalent of UVI Workstation. No, they aren't going to give upgrades off of a free product that anyone can get from the Steinberg website. Yes, it's literally the same product. It's bundled with Cubase because it's their product, and their sample/synth playback engine, for the content that comes with Cubase (and Dorico) and from Steinberg (and partners that create for that platform). There is no logical reason why they would give upgrade discounts to that, the same way no one expects UVI to give upgrade discounts off of UVI Workstation, for the same reason. Should they also give upgrades from Cubase to Dorico because Cubase has a score editor? Absolutely nothing stupid about it. No one is paying for HSSE3 to be bundled in Cubase. That's why it's in literally every SKU of Cubase, down to AI and LE. What people pay a little extra for are the sound libraries that Cubase bundles, and those are played back through instruments like HSSE3. You paid nothing for HSSE3, so why should they basically give you money for having it?

    2 points
  35. It's been said here already that you need to treat IK's products as singletons: don't collect them for upgrades, don't expect special discounts because of them. This is especially true when you consider that: - their occasional freebies already qualify you for their typical crossgrade offer - they run a lot of sales which are focused mainly on customers that are new to their different product lines - there's no shortage of cheap IK plugins on the second-hand market, despite the license transfer fees - they generate a lot of marketing hype, which makes some (especially new) buyers disregard alternatives that might offer equal or better quality/value

  36. I believe many reason of such terrible approach to customer raises from lack of proper and strong feedback. They are not many companies over whole world that have built-in self improvement in their gens. And trying to do state of with art everything they do. Usually they are focusing on what they are trying to deliver, underestimating the rest. It is in fact hardly seen in big companies at all as they have many departments, people, procedures, passive approach to feedback (waiting for complains, counting them and reacting to counters in they development). Of course it looks like logical approach at first glance, complex product, big company lots of work,so you must chose what do do first... But they often miss what should be really important as user experience is more than just putting something to input and getting great output. I have some plugins that I am using more not because they are the best from my collection but providing the best experience... They can hear several guys like us complaining but they read enthusiastic reviews how good it is, where more likely nobody bold things like terrible installers blindly and stupidly trashing disk with all possible versions everywhere (like McDSP and many others), like providing poor support for download (IK requires payment for libs after some time, but JST is permanently cutting off download after year, you bought so bye), like reasonable upgrade paths for customers who invested already lots of money, or those who are promising fake loyalty coupons (which are worthless as not working during deals where any person gets the same price and lower than catalog price - voucher) etc... What I am trying to say here is if we would have a way to convince them such things are more important, if for instance review authors also could take such things into accounts when giving a rating, it would be game changer. We are not strong enough to change it just with some random complains.... For instance, reviewer probably think, install you are using once and done so not so important to mention about it. But it only means lack of understanding whole process, like wasting time to clean manually, lack of control over our own environment and repeating with every next update. Also upgrade paths... How many reviews did you read where there were compared cost of products and also upgrade paths?

  37. Right. When you bought a "packaged product" you ALWAYS had the disks for backup, should you need them. So basically they have eliminated packaging costs, disk costs, and shipping costs, in Favor of CHARGING YOU EVEN MORE to get what you ALREADY paid for!
    2 points
  38. I think that along with Steinberg, IK is one of the worst. They charge you for downloading the sound files you already bought! This is they give you 6 month to download the soundpacks, if you have to download it after those 6 months you must purchase a download pack in order to be able to download it again. The only thing they get with those practices is to discourage anyone from purchasing they products. Aaaand you have that stupid installer that install all of the plugins they sell even if you purchase only one of them... I have Amplitube, Sampletank and T-Racks and for sure I would buy more products from them cause I really like them, but I am not going to support a company with those stupid practices that only looks for getting money from their customers at all costs. PD: I hate steinberg for their e-License thing and because they charge you and update fee for x.5 versions updates that corrects their own bugs. I really don't understand a company that charges you for correcting their mistakes. Is there any other software company that charge you an update rate for going from x.0 to x.5 version? ridiculous. This is why I move from Cubase to Reaper.
