  15. You can't draw conclusions from statistics you don't have. In the US, we have tested less than 0.2% of the population for the virus. Based on sample sizes like that, one could conclude that not only are sharks not dangerous, they probably don't even exist. Ask anyone in Nebraska if they've ever seen one.

  20. I don't know if this is yet in the planning - or if there is some obscure setting I haven't found yet, but . . . it sure would be nice if we could adjust the system font type/size within the track view and other places. Should I make a formal feature request for this?

  22. How many of you have reduced your drive storage? I was thinking is using a few 1TB SSDs and removing stuff I never use. Much of Komplete never gets used like their string libraries. I have Live 10 Suite and most of it is old stuff never updated. The Suite library takes up 60GB. One of my systems has a few 2TB drives and I have EWHO Gold and my VSL collection on a 500GB SSD. I thought maybe I should remove stuff and if I need it put it back on a drive. I can really pay for 2TB SSDs and the 1TB seem to be on sale more often.

  29. In order to use this a serial number is required, but none was sent to me and the manual does not specify where to obtain one. Any suggestions? Never mind, I tried an old S/N from the previous version and that worked. Actually, that did *not* work. The Authorization Manager accepts the old code but all the content within the plugin is still locked. I think this one may not be worth the effort. 😞 Finally got it to work: https://cgi.ikmultimedia.com/ikforum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=23583 Well, almost ... the new ST 4 CS content does not load (it remains locked). Others are experiencing this as well: https://cgi.ikmultimedia.com/ikforum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=23583&p=100049#p100049

  31. Hey Mesh sorry to hear of your GPU woes 😣 I have had a few different GPUs in my current PC and have gone from NVidia to AMD then back to Nvidia in recent years. The move from AMD was due to driver instability and I must say that I have found the NVidia cards to be reliable (maybe I was lucky). Your upgrade process looks OK to me although I didn't use DDU or update my onboard HD graphics drivers; just uninstalled old drivers and re-installed new ones. So I would go with Jim's suggestion.

  32. Nvidia video cards aren't particularly problematic. It's more of it either works... or doesn't type scenario. Check cables first... If that doesn't resolve the issue, I'd swap out the Nvidia card.

  33. Things to check: - Zoom drivers installed and Zoom is set to Interface mode in its menu system. - Appropriate driver mode selected in Preferences > Audio > Playback and Recording (not sure what Zoom R8 supports) - Zoom I/O ports are available and checked in Preferences > Audio > Devices. - Zoom drivers are selected as Playback and Record Timing Masters in Preferences > Audio > Driver Settings. - Track meter shows signal. - Track outputs to Master bus. - Master bus outputs to Zoom and meter shows signal. - Monitors are connected to Zoom outputs and powered up.

  34. Thanks Peter! The 50 Free Instruments and 200 MIDIs are listed here for anyone who's interested. https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/include/st4/soundlist/SampleTank_4_CS_Instruments.pdf It integrated seemlessly with my existing ST4 MAX installation. I just downloaded v4.1.0 from my account along with the SampleTank_4_CS_Sound_Content and installed both. There's some good stuff in there like the Classic Tonewheel Organ OD with Leslie on the Mod wheel.

  37. Be very careful with manipulating "statistics" in your favor. This statement is all kinds of wrong, especially related to the paragraph directly above it. China turned away a lot of patients and refused to test any postmortem, so the infection/mortality/transmission rates have been downplayed from the get go, and continue to be. Mortality rate has already ramped up to 3.8% world-wide (4200 out of 115,000 as of the Tom Hanks report six hours ago), and the true numbers are not yet clear. Without a vaccine/cure, the transmission statistics are critical... especially when suddenly there are one-off cases who were very likely spreading it before they got symptoms and were tested. Downplaying things that can get people killed is never a good thing.

  42. Ironically, my TX81Z is the first hardware synth I've had die on me, well I say die, it's output is really distorted. I've just not got around to narrowing down the issue (I'm guessing it's the D/A converter(s)). You can do this, but it involves sampling far more velocities. I normally sample 4 velocities, but for some sounds I'll go up to 6 or 8. You can even sample different modulations (like mod wheel, breath control etc) but it takes forever to sample, and results in very large instruments. For the reasons mentioned earlier, I wouldn't even bother trying to sample a synth that was reacting to so many different controller types. I use the VL card in my MU100R, or my VZ-8M for my wind synth or SY77 with breath controller. That's one of the reasons they're still in my rack... but to be honest I don't get much use out of them. Like I said, it is possible to sample them, but you have to sample the synth at every possible combination of controller setting. It's just not worth it IMO... especially since I've actually got the synths!

  43. I'm a dinosaur too, and started out with MIDI keyboards and rack modules from Roland , Korg, and Alesis. But today I am comfortable with virtual instruments. If I played live as you do, I might have a different perspective that emphasize hardware. Still have a few Roland JV/XP series ROMpler synths sitting around. Not so sure about the forever part. Depending on wear and tear, something is likely to give out eventually. Then the search for parts and schematics will likely be underway. The part about software synths sounds correct, but hardware synths don't store everything in ROM. In regards to a digital ROMpler, typically just the raw waveform is stored in ROM, but then the hardware synth also processes that signal by combining oscillators, using filters, modulations for various envelopes and LFOs, and effects in real time as you play the instrument. This real-time workload is also what is being emulated in a virtual instrument using the CPU in the computer host. I don't believe the ROM theory is responsible for the reduced latency. Hardware is just dedicated to the real-time audio task, and a general purpose computer is not. But I can still easily get latency under 10ms with my virtual instruments. Doing that all on one computer is a balancing act for the operator. There are free solutions like freezing instrument tracks as you go, or expensive ones like a major computer upgrade. Freezing tracks can accomplish that as well. I'm not familiar with physical modeling hardware, but there are some interesting modeled virtual instrument solutions such as Chromophone 2 from Applied Acoustic Systems (AAS), Modartt's Pianoteq, Arturia's V Collection, and IK Multimedia's MODO Bass, for example. I agree that you will never get zero load on a CPU running virtual instruments, but computers are getting more powerful every year. So you can throw money at the problem and get more tracks. For reference to the path we have traveled, take a look at this comparison of CPUs from Intel 386 in 1985 to Intel Core i7 6700K 2015. 40 Years of Processing Power "To put the difference the years have made into perspective: 1 second of processing by Intel’s (2011) i7 3960X would have taken the best 1985 personal computer over 4 hours 29 minutes!"
