  3. Not only can you have different delay times for different instruments, you can have different delay times for different note ranges and/or velocity ranges within the same instrument. This can be useful if you have a string sound that has a slower attack at lower velocities.

  5. I heard back from support. After a few brief exchanges back and forth and suggestions from me on how they should clear things up for their Ultimate customers, the support person emailed back and said he saw that I have been a customer for a long time and purchased many of the free (now) plugins. So he kindly issued a license to my account. 🙂 While I think this pricing is stupid, it's nice to know there are decent and reasonable people on the other end.

  9. https://gigperformer.com/the-decent-sampler-xml-generator-free-download Gig Performer has just released a free application called the Decent Sampler XML Generator for Windows and Mac. This standalone app lets you employ the free Decent Sampler to load and trigger a custom collection of samples quickly and directly from the plugin host. It can be helpful when you want to have a small collection of sound effects pre-loaded and mapped to the keyboard of a basic sampler like the Decent Sampler. https://bedroomproducersblog.com/2024/03/20/decent-sampler-xml-generator/

  17. My understanding has always been that theory was developed to explain why music works and sounds good. It’s kind of like what came first, the chicken or the egg. When theory is not followed, but something still sounds good, then it’s often written in theory as an exception. I think it’s good and OK to understand theory, but I do think that it sometimes keeps people from coloring outside of the lines. Some people can’t stand coloring outside of the lines and others find that to be interesting and creative. Similarly, blue is a primary color and that is a rule of design….but does the sky need to be painted blue.

  25. So far, users have to wrap our heads around, 1. The announcement was made, what, nine months ago? It's uncommon to say the least for a rollout to take this along. Especially since.... 2. There really are no feature updates. Just a HiDPI update and some bug fixes, which is expected from any product. 3. There has been zero clarity as to how much the thing will sell for and how it will be paid. The "pssst, over here" Bandlab sneak peek thing is lame. Sorry, it just is. Someone who subscribes to Bandlab just for the Sonar access might end up paying twice one the real pricing is rolled out. This is the weirdest, softest rollout of any software I have ever seen, bar none. 4. And Bandlab...some legacy Cakewalk Plugins and Virtual Instruments aren't really worth much of anything in 2024. Session Drummer? Concrete Limiter? C'mon man.

  27. I like that he goes over features that I don't usually use / haven't explored, but might now that I see he pointed them out. Also, nice that he highlights some of the new features. Glad to see the content is about Cakewalk's features and not secondary to his personal preferences for another DAW.

  37. @mark skinner, @garybrun . . . I listened to this last night (headphones), so looks like you've updated the mix . . . first of all it's got that "classic" different guitars panned left and right thing that Mark does so well, and the recorded acoustic instruments are captured to perfection I think. From my memory of the previous listen I think the arrangement got a lot clearer, especially in the low end . . . bass guitar pops a lot more, and the tabla sounds really good and punchy. Certainly goes through a lot of moods, Indian jazz, mix collab sounds excellent, and you know I love that cello !

  38. MIDI files do not have the capability to store time offsets of any kind, ticks or milliseconds. CbB generally renders any non-destructive MIDI effects/transformations into the MIDI events on saving as MIDI, basically the same as it does when rendering MIDI through a soft synth. I haven't tested this with articulations but I would expect that to be the case.

  40. Same and I agree! --- edit --- https://kilohearts.com/products/kilohearts_ultimate Now I'm a little annoyed. They should have done like IK or Arturia and labelled it "Ultimate 1", "Ultimate 2", etc. The way it is now is simply says "own the entire collection". So do I own Ultimate or not?? (For the record, yes, I do.) Hrmph. --- edit --- There. Now they have another support email to answer. (support@kilohearts.com) 😉

  41. Same here. I don't subscribe to software.

  42. Not only they should be crisp at all res, but also scalable at all res as well. As soon as you see someone moving for a format suitable for 4k panels, you seem to always lose the ability to either scale lower than 100% or you lose screen space because, as I mentioned before, the vector UI seems to be a change made for 4k users by 4k users with little to no consideration for other screen resolutions. And while you can technically use resolution scaling to put your monitor at 4k then scale it down to native res, you're gonna have worse results if you already start with poor readability. And to say this is not people nitpicking on changes because of preference, the UI changes implemented in Cubase 13 were similar to the Sonar ones and a lot of people complained about poor contrast and also citing visual impairments which made the interface hard to read. Though my main personal nitpick with the change to the vector UI is the 15% size increase. How is it not possible to maintain the exact same interface size from before when you have freely scalable graphics. And let's consider that CbB already had quite a bit of screen space lost to dock borders and such.

  43. Interesting. I have 2 identical 24" Dell screens so I've had it side by side and CbB is definitely easier on the eyes. Cripser, more contrast - better demarcation between items. Whether that's just design choices or other more technical reasons I don't know. I just call it as I see it.
