  2. It refers to using it in the short term. Cbb will be available for some time to give users time to transition to Sonar which will be the only product supported going forward. I think we've all learned that lifetime messaging can be ambiguous right? 😉 The bigger question to me is why anyone serious about using our products want to use an old unsupported product, when a much better (and affordable) version is made available. If you want to see this product developed further, it's only fair that we ask for you to support us in turn. I don't think anyone expected that cbb would be indefinitely free forever. In the future there may be a free version (with some limitations) however.

  5. Don't forget, it's $225 if you plan to use Reaper to sell whatever it outputs.

  6. Oh, I so hope Cakewalk Sonar will have the same pricing structure as Reaper...

  7. It's good to know, that Sonar is not abandoned and is about to get a fresh new start. Can hardly wait for the release! I do hope that this new Sonar will be just as stable and fast evolving as it used to be. Don't want to stir up any highly emotional discussion by comparing it to other DAWs, it's safe to say, that Sonar ticks all the boxes for me. Go Bakers!

  10. @Noel Borthwick Thanks for the update and the clarification of the future of CbB. I’ve been trying to tell people exactly this but for some reason people seem to take it as a slap in the face as opposed to being the good news that it is. And I guess some are worrying about cost. I posted the pricing from the old Sonar compare versions page to demonstrate a possible pricing for the new Sonar. This includes Home Studio for $49. I got no reaction. It’s really just a few people who are negative about the company. And thanks for taking the time to fix the minor issues with activation and the splash screen as it was making the forum a very negative environment. You might be loosing a few impatient users due to Sonar taking longer to release than was originally expected. I think the majority of us would rather you take your time and get it right. We still have CbB and if this takes 6 more months then why would it matter. CbB is absolutely the best DAW for all us long time users and I personally couldn’t ever go backwards. The longer it takes the more time people have to save up. If you had put a dollar a day aside since last June you would now have $245 towards Sonar saved up.

  11. And you posted this in a topic about the latest release of Cakewalk by BandLab because....?

  12. So we actually see some action that I hope will get this forum back on a positive pathway instead of all the negativity and threatening to switch DAW nonsense lately. The new Cakewalk Product Centre will finally solve a few ongoing issues like offline activation as well as I can see that in the future it will be our go to for updates and future purchases. It would be very very cool if they also add our legacy products here as well! @Jesse Jost ? @Noel Borthwick? I like it. And did any of you recent Nay Sayers notice the release notes for the CbB update. I counted over 50 Bug fixes! They most certainly did not have to do any of this but they did, proving once again that the developer team really does care and listen. OK everybody back to work and please relax and let them finish Sonar in peace and quiet. If it takes another 6 - 12 months that's fine by me.

  13. Hey folks, I've been testing this in comparison with the AudioRealism ReDominator, which is ostensibly an emulation of the same synth. Compared to this new TAL synth, the aging ReDominator looks its age and sounds... like a Cherry Audio Juno compared to the Softube version, in other words the AudioRealism lacks mojo! This new TAL looks and sounds great, and I'm going to struggle not to buy it, even though my synth coffers are already bulging. But, as the saying goes, there's always room at the top, and I'll happily make room amongst my VST folders for this one, even if I have to delete a few temp files. Here's what TAL has to say about it: https://tal-software.com/products/tal-pha TAL-Pha Release 15.02.2024 We are proud to announce the release of TAL-Pha. A very authentic Alpha Juno emulation with a lot of powerful additions. It's been a lot of work, but it's finally here. 20% intro discount! TAL-Pha TAL-Pha is an instrument plug-in that emulates the sound of the analog 80's synthesizer Alpha Juno II (MKS-50 is the rack version). The plug-in produces the classic analog sound, combined with modern flexibility and many additional functions. The plug-in can read and convert sysex information from the hardware and can also be used as a controller. Authentic emulation of the 80's hardware synthesizer. Resonance boost for filter self-oscillation. The possibility to detune, modulate, and sync the pulse part of the DCO. Simple but powerful FX section with delay, reverb, and a bell-eq. Arpeggiator with different modes. Stereo UNISON mode with up to seven voices. Aftertouch and MPE support. Microtuning support (tun file import and MTS Client). Original factory banks included. More than 380 fresh presets by Electric Himalaya, The Unfinished, Saif Sameer, emptyvessel and TAL. Individual tuning for every voice converts the synths DCO into a VCO. Reads Sysex files and Sysex MIDI from the hardware device. Can also control a hardware device. If enabled, it sends Sysex through the plug-in MIDI output (only possible when supported by the DAW). Requirements: Windows: Windows 7 or higher (64 bit host) macOS: 10.9 or higher (64 bit host). Universal Binary 2 with native Intel and Apple silicon support (M1, M2, M3...). AAX: Pro Tools 10.3.6 or higher (64 bit). LINUX: 64 bit / Ubuntu 18 or similar. Demo restrictions: The plug-in produces a rising white noise sound every minute.

  14. Reaper is not FREE .. its $60. Its trusting people to use the "trial" period and then purchase a license after that. Perpetually using it without paying the $60 thereafter is technically illegal I imagine

  15. Yes, same as REAPER was once freeware and is now payware. Are you suggesting that if someone likes programs that go from freeware to payware they might also like REAPER? Seems like an odd criterion....

  20. Because they won't be able to install the new version on their pc even if they wanted to ? Also, until fairly recently I think it's fair to say that the impression was very much given that users would never be locked out of their older projects- that even if the program/company ceased to exist - something would be done to ensure that scenario wouldn't happen. That doesn't seem to be the case any more so if some people are now feeling a bit nervous about being a Cakewalk user all over again then I can understand that.

  26. MBitFunMB is a serious tool for extreme distortion lovers. It converts incoming audio into limited fixed-point precision of 1-16 bits per sample and lets you access each bit with several operations and finishes the processing with a low-pass filter. All with up to 6 independent bands, 4 modulators... from light distortion to extreme brutality. Now on sale at 75% off (reg. $53) now just $13.30 USD. Limited time only. https://www.waproduction.com/plugins/view/mbitfunmb

  27. I'm afraid to have an Alexa in my home. I really don't know why. It just creeps me out. The center switch in the pic was for the ceiling fan. The fan was wired to have the light and fan come on with a single switch. I ended up having to run new 14-3 up in the attic to separate them. I built the fireplace in this pic. The company I bought the fireplace insert from was having a sale and I upgraded to the wifi one for less than the non-wifi one. It said you had to download their app. At that point I was up to 5 different apps and it was a real pain. I was pecking around the settings of one app one day and it found everything in the house. I set the app up and it controlled everything, including the thermostat and fireplace. I could control the entire house inside and out from one app. Here's the fireplace I built. Indid all the trim and stone work. Everyrhing was done except for the top. I had a massive dead black walnut tree in my yard I was going to cut down and make a top for it, but I moved on before I got to finish it. I ran all the wires inside the wall for the TV and hdmi cables and put a box behind the TV and on the wall on the cubby hole below so you could set blu ray player down there. I had an outlet with USB ports. I also ran a dedicated circuit just for the insert. It was really nice. Even the recessed lights in the bedroom were wifi controlled. And it wasn't expensive at all. Amazon is a great resource. If you can do wiring yourself it's really not bad at all. Sorry, I'm rambling. Hah. I put a ton of work in to that house and I really miss it. I more than doubled what I paid for it when it was sold and all that stuff made a big difference, not to mention the labor was free.

  29. Hey all you Cakewalkers . . . here's another collaboration I've done with Mark Alan Skinner. I had this strumming acoustic guitar piece in my studio for a while , and just couldn't take it much further. Was trying to record a sampled mandolin part, which wasn't working right . . . so I sent a mix to Mark, who can actually play a mandolin ! Well, a few weeks go by and Mark recorded an acoustic guitar, a mandolin, and an upright bass . . . yeah, that's me singing and strum whacking acoustic guitar in the background. What can I say, the piece was transformed. Let us know what you think, and how the mix translates . . .

  30. Because you asked: the ability to theme CbB is a very strong reason why I am still using it today. I have two themes I use and neither of them are Tungsten or Mercury. I'll wait and see what the future holds for theming Sonar before giving a final answer, of course 🙂

  32. What activation issue? In my experience, if you cannot sign in at all using the standard web based auth then that is caused by some system side incompatibility with traffic being blocked from the browser to the app. For such cases there is an alternate sign in mechanism using password flow that uses an in-app sign in process.

  41. Bear in mind that you can quick group tracks and/or buses and lower the volume of all with one stroke. Depending on your levels, one way to go is Quick Group and lower all the tracks involved. If the tracks have acceptable levels, then I would do the quick grouping at the bus level. I do both all the time. I never touch the Main Output.

  42. Any additional info you can provide about the hang would be useful. Any chance you can post an image of what this looks like? Yep, I totally get wanting to operate offline. And of course you can, but currently if you're restarting often then of course you'll get the screen. But as I said, I'm sure we can make refinements to improve this use case. Any plans that will would affect CbB's future availability would be clearly communicated well in advance on these forums and Sonar home page. CbB will never just "stop working" without plenty of advance notice and a viable alternative.

  43. Tempo changes are still discrete jumps, but just at a more granular level. The tempo map is derived from the tempo envelope each time it's edited so it doesn't have to calculate it in real-time. However, an absolute time offset it's still quite complex to do, due to the way MIDI events are queued up in time ready to play. Part of the queuing process is determining which events to queue and when to queue them. This is all done in batches of musical ticks at the moment. If the delay (negative or otherwise) was specified in milliseconds, this would ultimately have to be converted to ticks - but when tempo changes are in play, the amount of ticks could be different for the start time for searching through what to buffer and the start time of each MIDI event. Getting this wrong could result in either missing notes or notes queued up twice. As far as it being computationally intensive... this is partially true. Retrieving the tempo at any point in time is a fairly quick process, but does involve a binary search of the tempo map. Doing this for every note may have an adverse affect on engine performance, but then again, it might be fine on faster machines. Not saying it's impossible, but it's not trivial. That part of the code is pretty involved (even more so now that we have articulations). Part of me thinks this might be better served by extending the articulations to allow +/- delays. The reason being, is that: 1. You could incorporate it into existing articulations, for example all legato articulations would be delayed by "n" ms, whereas pizzicato wouldn't 2. You could have a more granular control over what was delayed and when - for example, you could filter out channels, or have different ms delays for different octaves; or you'll have the ability draw the delay articulation over a specific region of notes in time.

  44. Ditto with @mettelus on Comping. In the real studio... we get the vocalist warmed up, in the pocket, in the groove, and then run them down at least 6 track lanes so that we can comp the best. That way there are very few timbre variations in the performance.
    1 point
  45. Look up "Comping"... you can record multiple takes without the need to undo anything, then choose the best phrases from the take lanes.
