  7. I own CTC-1 and I have to respectfully disagree with TheSteven in this particular instance. The Mix Engine FX are something special and add a 3D-ness that I have only ever experienced with the Nugen Stereoizer plugin. (I know they are doing different things, but these are 2 of the few plugins I've ever had where I got that "holy crap" reaction after putting them on a mix and toggling back and forth.) Unfortunately... this one comes at the cost of HUGE CPU cycles which is why I rarely use it. I'll only ever put it on at the end of a mix if I can spare the overhead. But I would love to have a PC where I could mix into this. To TheSteven's other points, I turn off the Noise and Crosstalk by default and do not understand for the life of me why we would want that to re-introduce those things into mixing. However, I do admit to using the Crosstalk a few times and can't deny the "gluing" effect. But I have also soloed tracks a few times after I forgot I had the Crosstalk on and spent stupid amounts of time tracking the "leaking audio" to that "feature". I never got the "Retro Legends" because I didn't want to spend more $$ to annihilate my CPU. I have been curious about the Softube Tape for a long long time though... As The Steven said, YMMV.

  8. It would be so very time-saving to be able to select a default preset for each and every VST plugin. The preset would then always be the default loading state when a specific plugin is instantiated. Please consider it for the new and flashy soon-to-be Sonar.

  14. when i need to be surgical on an audio clip, i just use the right tools like audio file editors (SoundForge, Acoustica, RX, etc etc) and leave the DAW stuff for the, er, DAW stuff... nice that the paid $$$ version of Adobe Premiere Pro does that, but why not just use tools meant for the job?

  15. Nicest Gibson that I've played recently was a Les Paul Axcess Floyd Rose (at Sweetwater). Played and sounded (to me) better than several R9s... which were more than double its cost. While not cheap (in any sense), that Axcess was $3k (two thousand off normal price). Amazing deal for a Gibson Custom (about same cost as a Standard).

  16. A year or so ago, my machine-registered iLok registrations decided to go sideways. I submitted the reset requests via the iLok manager, which worked in most cases. For the AIR licenses, I had to contact their support staff directly. Take a look at AIR's KVR support forum for how to contact them directly. I much prefer physical iLok for registrations, but on a laptop, there is a vulnerability factor where that dongle is too easily damaged. Fortunately, the AIR synths register just fine to the first generation iLok, so as long as you don't have iLok'd plug-ins (such as the iZotope Exponential reverbs) that require an iLok II or higher, you can get a cheap and plentiful first gen iLok for your AIR synths.

  18. If I was the CW developers, I would focus first on professional users and those that have shown they use a large number of the features as much as possible. Among several reasons, I don't see myself being in that group. I started with DOS and bought various versions until Sonar but didn't expect that to have any affect on their decision. Based on what I have seen on this forum, I'd bet we could guess at least 10 people that were selected and rightfully so. My expectations for selection were low. So I've decided to focus on being impatient!

  25. Until I moved to RME and picked up the desktop controller I was using a Dangerous D-Box as my monitor controller. I've loved this thing and the headphone amps are LOUD. You could feed a digital and an analog signal as sources but I think you only get two speaker outs. Needing three changes the equation. Fun fact, I sent a digital signal from my old UAD Apollo silver units to the D-Box because it had better converters. When I went to the new Apollo X I switched to sending an analog signal because the converters in the X were better than the D-Box. Moved to the RME and it's converters beat the Apollo (to my ears) and the desktop controller is a sweet piece of kit. Now to pull the D-Box from the rack and get it on Reverb... Good luck!

  27. SI Bass's tunng control is very coarse with a range of +/- six semitones. A quick calculation shows 420Hz is ~81 cents (0.81 semitones) flat from A-440 . Holding Shift will allow you to get fine control of the Tuning knob to get to -0.8. I checked, and the actual tuning of SI Bass doesn't change with every tenth of semitone (-0.8 and -0.9 produce the same output) but -0.8 should be close enough.

  29. Depending on when your application was received you may yet get a response, it's relative to when it was received and how many other people have already been admitted. It's not a fully open beta, so it's a restricted size pool, so not everyone who applies will be admitted, nothing personal if you don't a response.

  34. Yes that’s definitely the least expensive interface on the market but- only 16 bit and RCA outs. You see the Presonus are about the same price are 24 bit & ASIO but with a warning about the pre amps which were rated the lowest in a test someone did. I would personally choose the Zoom AMS 24 in this price range . It has much better features, specs and drivers are 1st class It’s funny how people always recommend the Focusrite interfaces but they are actually lacking in features compared to others. For the same price as a 2i2 you can get the SSL 2 which has way more features as well as it was the top of the list for best pre amps. Motu M2 is also a better option. Below is my list which is priced low to hi.

  35. Air just got back to me with a very detailed instructions on what to do. I am to contact iLok and ask them to reset all my licenses on the server. Then I’m to deactivate them locally. Then there’s a long list of steps to delete things stored on my computer. It’s a complicated process but we’ll see if it works. Air said don’t do anything until iLok confirms they reset. Question is why did it happen in the first place? Who’s to blame for wasting all my time? ILok or windows 11? I have a Steinberg e Licence dongle that I had to buy for Cubase and Wave Lab. I just used that and managed to wrestle Cubase and Wave Lab 7 on to my old computer I'm slowly re building. Had to Hack the DVD and then run from the installer in W7 compatibility mode.

  38. Open the <Inspector> [shortkey I] which will pop open the two channel strips to the left of the Track View [TV]. At the very bottom there are two tabs labled Audio and MIDI. Click on the MIDI one and you will see that the leftmost channel strip changes appearance to a MIDI channel. RMB in the FX bin in that chan strip and you will get the command. If you RMB on the Track Number (or in the blank space to the right of the track name) you will get a fly-out menu with the command <Split Instrument Track> available, which will split the inst track into associated synth & MIDI tracks. Read in the help facility on Split Instrument Track and Make Instrument Track.

  40. I am not sure if you have done much guitar work, but many lower end guitars will need finishing work on frets, nut, and possibly hardware (bridge specifically). This is in addition to any PUP swaps or wiring changes. If looking for mahogany specifically, China has one of the largest reserves, so is easy to get one-piece bodies cheap that way. With the amount of work you may be facing (just keep that in mind), kits are another option, but you would also need to final finish the wood in addition to the above. I built a LP kit a couple years ago and only needed to replace one PUP and the bridge. @Grem also picked up Strat-style kit and just finished it recently, but some of that set up was a bit more than he was anticipating. Because of the level of attention I gave to that kit, the only guitar I own that plays better is the one I had PLEK'd.

  41. There are DAWs that compensate for this - much like 0dB center balance control with panning in Cakewalk. The same goes for when you do a send. It adds the same 3dB as collapsing the L&R channels together.

  43. Cakewalk by Bandlab 2023.09 Build 75 should install on a fully patched Windows 7 PC (Well patched up to January 2020) Of course there will be a warning. However, it’s just warning, not a show stopper. It should still install. Just don’t expect any support. Note, you should be using the Web installer, not Bandlab Assistant to install Cakewalk by Bandlab 2023.09 Build 75. https://downloads.bandlab.com/cakewalk/setup/CakewalkSetup.exe

  48. In later versions of Win10, Microsoft broke the ability to disable CPU Core Parking (when running 12th or 13th Gen CPUs). That was that pivotal moment I'd been waiting for to move to Win11. I've heard that's since been fixed... but I'm not going back with any new builds. For a new build, I'd install Win11 Pro. Pro lets you fully disable Automatic Updates (Home does not). You also have the Group Policy Editor (which allows shutting down Cortana, OneDrive, etc). As @DeeringAmps mentioned, the Pro version just gives you more control.
