  5. In the past, this usually meant a big feature was being reworked or added and was taking longer to shake out. The results were always worth it. Let's post our guesses in The Coffee House...

  7. 😆 A little gasoline on the fire. If anyone actually tries the analogy, the way I'd approach it would be with something more humble, "I dunno, sweetie, I guess it's like clothes. Different outfits for different occasions? Each one sounds different and feels different and plays different." Or you could snap "You just can't stand the idea that I have something I enjoy!" No. Don't do that.

  8. Let's hope they'll at least reset the voucher a couple of times like before.

  9. I always knew the vouchers would make a return visit 🤪 It's all supply and demand.. and while they would've got greater exposure with Soundwide, they lost a lot of regulars. I'll wait this round out and wait to see if they return with the $20 voucher down the track. It's a good sign that there's still hope they might get back on track though.

  10. Have extensive UAD collection. Been without my Octo card for a while due to working mobile, and lack of non-Thunderbolt support on their Apollo interfaces. Have replaced almost everything I had on the UAD platform...for like 1/10th of the price I original purchased the UAD plugins. There is almost no reason to stay in that ecosystem unless you're invested in the hardware. Even the Spark sub isn't appealing, considering the PA sub is the similar price, has a far more diverse / extensive collection (many of which are in UAD collection), and they give a bunch of free plugins with sub. Having said that, if I can access my UAD plugins that I already own for free via Spark - and not need a subscription - then it'll be nice to get the LA2A collection back, as it's my favorite emulation. Everything else has been replaced.

  15. Skaka is one of my most-used instruments, despite having far more sophisticated percussion sources on call, such as Shimmer Shake Strike. I often just want to add a subtle shaker pattern behind a drum track. Skaka lets you do that with minimal effort, as it's basically a simple sequencer with each shaker having its own sequence. I'll typically pan one type of shaker left and another right. Even with custom patterns it takes just seconds. Plus you can save your favorite patterns for re-use in other projects. I do wish they'd add some more instruments, though, even as a paid add-on. There are currently 18 instruments, but many sound similar. This could be a game-changer if they added bongos, congas, sticks, etc. But it is what it is, and quite useful as it stands due to its simplicity.

  22. I just replaced my broken i7 with an AMD Ryzen 5 5600x 6-core (which was half the price). Although technically a downgrade (8 cores to 6), I have noticed no difference in performance, either in the number of tracks Cakewalk can handle or in video game FPS. The only benchmarks that matter. Also not impacted: the speed with which I can impulsively order unnecessary sample libraries.

  25. I think we've been through this a couple times before. Per the documentation: "The Piano Roll view always obeys the global Snap to Grid on/off setting, even if you specify an independent snap resolution in the Piano Roll view." What this is saying is that if Global Snap is off, PRV snap will also be off. 'N' is bound to 'Snap Toggle Extended' by default. If you've changed this default binding to 'Global Snap On/Off' the PRV snap on/off status will not follow the Global snap on/off.

  27. For anyone considering, several (though not all) of the 4-5 plugin bundles are also $29 during the sale - including the Percussion Bundle, which includes Skaka. EDIT: Apologies -- see below, as this may not be the case. Notes on some of the bundle pages suggest that the bundles are also $29, but that's not showing up in cart. Sorry for the false alarm. EDIT to the EDIT: Not sure whether the text on the site was clarified or if I originally misinterpreted, but it seems the bundle prices have been adjusted during the sale so that each individual plugin "counts" as $29. Makes sense now. Ah well.

  35. I just did my first ever demo (I stopped playing music professionally 23 years ago after a repetitive stress injury resulted in really bad tendonitis' I started playing again early last year and can only play for short periods at a time -- literally, sometimes only like a few minutes if there is, say an 8th note cymbal pattern a fast tempo; so my playing is pretty much never going to be good again. But I'm trying to play again and can handle very simple stuff. This uses all Orange Tree Samples guitars and their bass (they're all KONTAKT libraries), NI's Abbey Road 60s Drums, Spitfire's Jangle Box Piano, Sound Dust's 1900 Dulcitone and GForce's Mtron Pro. All of the instruments are virtual and were played in real time (as opposed to writing in MIDI or step sequencing, etc.). I was once a very good drummer -- Jimmy Chamberlin of the Smashing Pumpkins once said I was one of his favorite drummers (back in the 90s definitely not today! And he did say "out of Chicago" which is less impressive. Oh well, it's still my favorite brag! Today I can't even play as well as I could at 8, literally, I'm just focused on trying to play beats decently). https://www.orangetreesamples.com/audio/PeterDeLegge-DearPaul.mp3

  36. I used to think that, until I realised that the only reason more modern sample-based synths sound good is because of the FX units built into them, and in the case of the soundfonts, putting them through the E-MU filters did wonders. Try listening to the raw samples of a JV1080 and you'll get what I mean. Likewise, any early to mid 80's digital synth can sound amazing just putting it through some chorus & reverb, and even better though a decent multi-fx.

  38. Every thread in this forum so easily goes astray! And, hey, I'm not taking shots at anyone else, because that would be total hypocrisy. Just kind of having a laugh at how far we go off topic. With regard to Johnny calling Steven Slate "an arrogant mother," I've only had a couple of conversations with Steven Slate and I quite like him. Yes, he's from Boston and definitely moves at a high rate of speed (I'm a Midwesterner, am a total people pleaser and have often been told that I'm "overly polite"; so yes, even while I'm not as aggressive as some folks, I still can appreciate them), but I think he's actually a pretty nice guy. A LOT of the well known sample and plugin developers have pretty large egos, some of them don't have great ethics either (I'm putting that mildly), and I don't know Steven that well, but in my conversations he was always a straight up guy and very respectful to me. He also has a good sense of humor and we share a great love of The Beatles (he even named one of his businesses Yellow Matter Entertainment -- of course, in tribute to The Beatles, a reference to their song "I Am The Walrus") Our first conversation he asked, "Did you catch the Beatles' reference in my company name?" And being a huge Beatles fan, of course I couldn't miss that. Anyhow, Steven has always been a really nice person in my experience and a lot of fun to talk to and I'm not saying that because I have a business relationship with him, I don't. I just sincerely like him.

  40. Update. I downloaded and installed the piano (KONTAKT version) and really like it. BTP posted that the deal expires in two weeks so act on it before then. I did find that the download includes a version for the FULL version of KONTAKT plus the piano in the SFZ format, so you can use this free piano in a free SFZ player like Sforzando. For those low on funds, pick up Sforzando (the free plugin SFZ sample player) and get this library.

  42. The problem I have is with your videos is that when I end up buying the libraries, they never sound as good, which is entirely due to the guy playing them being incredibly less talented than you. It turns out, that's the most significant factor in how good a piano library sounds. Who would have known?

  43. https://www.musicradar.com/reviews/tech/cakewalk-z3ta-2-490547 Like friends, soft synths come and go, but only a few will be there for you year after year. In this sense, Z3TA+ is a firm ally of ours. It's been that way ever since the first version, programmed by René Ceballos of rgc:audio, debuted in 2002. A few years later, Cakewalk took on rgc:audio, and in 2007 gave us Z3TA+ 1.5. After that, though, it looked as if Z3TA+ was going nowhere, until v2 was unexpectedly announced a few months back. While the interface has had a significant functional and aesthetic makeover, the synthesis architecture hasn't changed. Z3TA+ 2's most distinctive feature remains its oscillator section, featuring six wavetable oscillators with waveforms ranging from analogue favourites (saws, squares, etc) to grungy, harmonic-laden affairs. There's an eight-voice unison mode, oscillator reset/sync and typical pitch controls.

  45. John, Cool song. The drums seem like they are pulling back on the song, I might look at a half-time shuffle to propel the song forward while not distracting from what is there. I think it would work with your current bass line as well. Listen to a song like Home Again by Steely Dan as a reference for this idea. If you have the Toontrack Custom and Vintage kit, check out Grooves ‘Swing 4/4 > Song 3 > 120bpm’ Some great fill ideas and cymbal variations in there as well. Regards

  46. That's the truth! The dollar and the pound are almost at parity (1.0 BPS = 1.08USD). If anyone is a Nebula user this would be a good time to buy TimP libraries since he's located in Britian and lists his prices in pounds.

  47. All depends on what you want and are looking for. This puts many of the amps at all time lows with the voucher. $5 (Chandler) and $10 for a plethora of the newer amps is basically as good as it has ever been. The lack of $20 is annoying since we would still have to pay for transfers with this current situation. But those looking to pick up amps, even when they ran the $20 vouchers - many of these amps would have been at a $40 tier with a few at the $30 thus this is as good or better for those prospective buyers.
