  3. I think this is very good and exciting news for everyone cheering for BandLab to succeed -- which certainly includes me -- and it makes clear that BandLab is a healthy company with an aggressive vision and the resources to continue growing. For those who haven't figured out BandLab's strategy and why they give away software that used to cost us hundreds of dollars, they spelled it out in that press release. Think of them as building a platform for musicians/artists, with the objective of driving as many artists as possible for their platforms -- and consequently, as a result of the artists utilizing their platforms --that music consumers / fans are driven to their platforms, and therein lies their plan for revenue -- from music fans and musicians promoting their music. They've combined music production tools with a distribution platform and social media. I think these guys are pretty smart and I'd love to see them succeed. It's the evolution of what was once the record industry and having seen how that industry works, I like the way this one works much better. Yes, promotion still makes a difference, so it's truly never a democracy, but it's much closer than the record label industry driven model that was bad news for most artists.

  11. Me, too. It doesn't get much simpler than plugging in a pair of headphones. 😊 Shoot, b, this is all supposed to be in good fun. If your response isn't just roughhousing (it's hard to know in this context), I'm truly sorry if I came off as attacking or too argumentative. I'm a geek, I'm curious about whether my beliefs about sound quality and latency ( that they'll both be better with the Audiophile) are borne out in testing. Not trying to prove that anyone's "right" or "wrong." Noel says that he tests Cakewalk on a system with a Realtek and gets decently low mixing latency, so I'm extra curious (that was not an Appeal To Authority, BTW 😂). I agree with almost everything you've said. From where I stand, the only thing we seem to disagree about is at what point the budding recordist should invest $100+ in an audio interface. It's just earlier from your point of view than it is from mine. For you it seems to be ESSENTIAL NOW. For me, it's more "a good idea at some point." From my POV, someone running a rocket sled like that in MME 32 has issues to correct before shelling out for the interface. Numero uno, switch that thing to WASAPI ASAP. Numero dos turned out to be getting NON bluetooth cans. There are multiple reasons why a n00b might want to wait on buying an interface and do it out of expanded needs rather than under pressure of trying to get their system to play back audio smoothly. Maybe they're a young person with little income who just dropped some big coin on that motherboard and RAM and they have to juggle expenditures. Could be that the onboard CODEC was defective and a warranty issue will be uncovered. They advertise the onboard sound as being somehow fancy-pants, so he surely paid something for it. It's not the worst thing in the world for someone to listen to their stuff through a lower-end DAC for a while, get used to how it sounds. Then when they finally pop for the Scarlett (it's always a Scarlett, isn't it?), they can better appreciate the differences. Can we just have a difference of opinion? It doesn't have to descend into virtual fisticuffs when one guy says buy a new interface and another guy says hold on a sec. Does it? Heck, wouldn't a "producer" just download percussion samples? 😆 I was working on something recently where I was mixing and absently fiddling with one of those plastic LP Egg Shakers, and sure enough, I came up with a rhythm and just HAD to record it, in a continuous take the full length of the track. This when I have a Kontakt library of plastic fruit-shaped shakers, I have samplers and ROMPlers all with beautifully recorded shakers, but as the lord is my witness I rocked that sucker old school into the MXL2001. No edits. I'm like The Doors of plastic egg shakers, just nail that sucker and press it. If someone made a video it could blow up on YouTube: "Watch How This Grey-haired Wannabe 'Producer' Makes a Shaker Track." 🤦‍♂️

  12. Well, I am not an accomplished keyboardist, so this may mean nothing to those who are. But from my stand point, this $20 Rhodes knock off is the best one I got. I tested it out against my AAS Louge Lizard, ST4 Stage 73, and Kontakt regular ( I guess the one that came with Kontact or the KC free bundle). To me it can get a lot quieter response wise than these others. It just sounds more rich. If I need a Rhodes, I will reach for the SoundPaint one.

  15. Tip for using it live. Turn off dropout detection. This will let the app keep running even if it runs into a potential dropout condition. Much better than stopping playback! Set this to TRUE in preferences | configuration file.

  16. [UPDATE 10-Nov-2021: Cakewalk 2021.11 Update 1 (build 27.11.0.018) now available] We're pleased to announce the 2021.11 release! This is primarily a maintenance release that includes fixes for a few user reported issues. It also includes several optimizations and improvements to export audio and behavior when using Track/Bus Solo, exclusive solo and solo override functionality, especially when used in more complex routing scenarios utilizing aux tracks and sidechains. Please note that in order to automatically keep your activation status up to date, Cakewalk will renew your activation status whenever a new version of the application is installed and run for the first time, and when you sign in to BandLab from within Cakewalk. If you have never signed in to BandLab from within Cakewalk, you will be prompted once to sign in. Thanks, The Bakers For new feature details, see New Features. Should you need to revert to the 2021.09 release, you can download the Cakewalk 2021.09 Rollback installer. Update Nov 10 2021: 2021.11 Update 1 (build 27.11.0.018) Bug fixes: Incorrect filename when export single track as Tracks through Entire Mix Allow more than one export task to have the same task name Step Sequencer not recognizing first note 2021.11 Highlights Solo, Exclusive Solo and Solo Override improvements The internals for track and bus solo have been greatly improved to handle more complex routing scenarios with tracks and buses outputting to aux tracks and sidechains. Prior to this release there were scenarios where soloing intermediate tracks or buses would not solo all the parts of the signal flow. Additionally, solo override now works consistently with aux tracks and tracks containing active sidechains. Dim solo has also been made aware of the solo override state and works consistently. Bug fixes Solo: Soloing a bus silences any sidechain sends to plugins in tracks/buses unless sending tracks are soloed Switching exclusive solo between aux tracks can cause the solo state to get out of sync Regression: Exclusive Solo Mode not working after unsoloing track Regression: Exclusive Solo "solo override" fails to work properly Exclusive soloing a mix of tracks and buses not working properly Solo overriding a bus sending to another bus won't pass through audio Solo Override does not behave as expected on Aux tracks or buses Solo Override does not behave as expected with Dim Solo Sidechain fails to trigger when soloing bus Soloing buses without an input streams audio not sent to bus Soloing a track with a send to an aux would not make the aux audible Soloing track routed to aux with dim solo results in unexpected dimming Soloing a bus now includes any sidechain sends to plugins in tracks/buses Export: Melodyne used as track effect hangs on export audio Some Mix Enables check boxes too large for dialog Duplicate filenames warning appears whenever using {taskname} tag Export Audio dialog not clearing/restoring exclusive solo / track solo override status Export Audio: Use same settings for all option not appearing for Tracks Through Entire Mix Export audio directory should be deleted if not used, and only created for cwp projects Improvements to plugin silence flushing Crash when exporting in ASIO with certain drivers when using high bounce buffer size Exporting with source category tracks through entire mix and range set to entire project doesn't respect track length Export audio from tracks now includes sidechain sends in more complex routing scenarios Bouncing Step Sequencer clip results in no clip in some projects Misc.: Preferences dialog categories illegible in High Contrast mode in Windows CTRL+SHIFT drag import of MIDI causes clips to overlap unexpectedly Step Sequencer clip fails to loop in user project Articulations ignored when scrubbing in Piano Roll view Piano Roll scrub stops working after using Clips scrub Add StickyFileExportNotification registry setting Softube plugins not scanning properly, resulting in errors in plug-in inventory Clean audio folder suggests deleting files in default export audio folder Disable project auto-save while File Export/Bounce to Track(s) dialogs are open Aux Track has unexpected volume boost after opening project Delete key not working in certain circumstances Latest release notes are here. 21. Me, too, with the sole exception of panning my drum overheads. I do find that with electronic music, the sounds I'm using often have huge stereo images baked in, so I have to be careful with big wide basses with a hole in the middle. Sum that down to mono and that bass can really build up. When I throw my own wideners on sounds, I stick to the ones that sum to mono well. And hit it with Panipulator at the end!

  23. My issue is they basically PISSED ALL OVER customers who owned HOD, and told us it was raining...$300 upgrade to a product you basically already own 90% of minus Opus and Orchestrator is a pretty hefty slap in the face

  26. FWIW, I had several previous Libs that showed locked in ST4 after installing GB purchases including the Hitmaker series. I just reinstalled them in PM and they are all working fine now in ST4 without PM.

  27. I always start my mixes in mono. Then pan out later when I have them fitting together I then use panning. Youll be amazed when you get eq correct and cut out masking in the mono... then out to stereo... youll be amazed at the difference. As a live sound engineer... mostly work in mono... this is where I got the habbit from.

  28. This FREE sound pack contains intense, booming recordings of the Soviet ZU-23-2 "Sergei" anti-aircraft gun. Its thundering cannons simply have no respect for helicopters. The sounds can be used for the original, or subbed in for any equivalent large gun. This pack is perfect for games, serials, and documentaries. https://www.boomlibrary.com/sound-effects/free-sounds-zu-23-2/

  29. Obviously something is wrong with the furry lugs today the bass sounds fine on my Adam's, if anything the mix sound a little top biased I agree the cymbal bell needs to be pulled back a tad. Other than that I liked the song it sounds well played and composed.

  35. The Famous "E" is a gem for sure, knowing it was the keyboard used on so many of the arrangements I really enjoy (especially Jarreau). The benefit I see with Soundpaint is first of all Cost. $20 for an accessibly Rhodes like this is really something, and I can see it being especially useful on a live rig as the CPU and memory resources are very good. Side by side with the Famous E, Keyscape, or other Rhodes titles will certainly expose some of the limitations but out of the box it felt instantly fun to play. The other part of having it in the Soundpaint universe is the possibility of using the sources to layer and morph with other titles in the library. I have done some experiments morphing it with the Steinway and it is very interesting. Now if I can just nail that instrument break!!!! 😎

  36. I definitely had to do the same, mostly (I think) for some or all of the older SampleTank libs. One odd detail, in case it helps anyone diagnose the issue: after registering in Program Manager and downloading, the libs in question were locked in ST4. But IK had unlocked ST3 for me earlier (so I could import a legacy library a while back), and the same libs worked fine in ST3. But until I ran the serials through Auth Manager, I got no love for them from ST4.

  37. Right, it doesn't make sense, but I seem to recall having to drop a few serial numbers into the IK Authorization Manager. Don't recall exactly which ones, as it's been a while...

  39. Wow and I thought my set up was complicated. Good job on that. I have played using backing tracks since the early 80’s Bars stopped hiring bands and were only hiring singles and duo’s. First the drum machines then the Atari driving midi. I miss the midi control of all my gear I had back then. Every song on the Atari pulled up the lyrics, set my Alesis Reverb, messed with the Yorkville lights and played live our Roland MT 32 , Juno, 505 , Yamaha FB01 and a Korg Poly 800. A local Jeff Kofftinoff wrote the Software we used called Performer, and we together made a foot switch out of a joy stick. Most important button was the Panic button to clear stuck notes. Later as a single it was too much gear to hook up and I went with mastering the backing tracks in stereo to Sony Mini Disks. Sounded great but I lost the foot switch, midi control of stuff and no lyrics. Since around 2004 I have used a laptop running WinAmp and a USB foot switch. I tried the playlist getting all excited about regaining midi control but it had 2 major faults for me. It was too slow between songs and I need flexibility of song order on the fly. The slowness was probably due to the vintage of the laptop at the time . But flexibility is important to me as I’ve always worked with very loose set lists Win amp allows me to look out at a crowd and go, oh oh. Lots of Grey hair, better start wit Elvis and Buddy. And quickly drag a few songs around. I guess the solution in Playlist is create a LOT of different sets. thanks for sharing your set up I enjoyed reading that.

  45. I clicked the link and my experience was similar to those described above. In my case: Cakewalk_by_BandLab_Download_Setup_1.0.0.013.exe was downloaded to my Cakewalk install folder When I launched the install file I was asked to chose add-ons I have all installed and selected all but Melodyne because I have Melodyne Studio installed and didn't want to disturb that. Next I was presented with a dialog announcing the latest version I clicked OK in the dialog, the installer terminated and my Cakewalk install folder opened. If that was the expected behavior it worked fine. Since nothing was installed, the installer must have determined that the add-ons were also installed and up to date.

  46. Update from within the app worked fine. A suggestion: since it looks like the Cakewalk devs are the ones creating this: could the latest Cakewalk Reference Guide be included with it? As it stands, as far as I know the only way for a user to get it (maybe even know about it) is to come to the forum, which many people are not going to do. It's such a valuable resource, one that I'm still referring to daily even after using Cakewalk for 3 years. It's so packed with great information. Theme Editor is included as an option with Cakewalk installs and I think that more people are likely to use the Reference Guide. It would allow for a Utilities menu entry to be able to launch it from wherever it's installed.
