  1. INTRODUCING THE GEM MOD (Roland Dimension D clone) Overloud releases the Gem Mod, a new plug-in of the Gems series, inspired to the legendary Dimension* 320 modulation unit. The plug-in is FREE for 7 days starting TODAY. Only 1000 free licenses/day will be delivered! REDEEM A FREE COPY AN ICONIC MODULATION UNIT The Dimension unit offers a very soft and organic modulation. It was the go-to unit for vocals in the 80s and 90s but it can also be used on a full mix to increase the space perception without adding reverb. Its input section has a very musical harmonic generation when pushed into saturation. BEYOND THE ORIGINAL HARDWARE The Gem Mod plug-in allows to extend the original tone capabilities by adding many features not available on the analog unit, like: Envelope controlled parameter: all the main parameters can be dynamically controlled by the input envelope. Input Saturation: You can push into saturation the input stage of the unit to drive their super-musical harmonic generation. Custom LFO shapes: you can experiment with LFO shapes different than the original, to change the motion of the modulation, or add resonances to transform the chorus into a flanger. Stereo width control: you can change the amount of the stereo width, from mono to double the original width. 2. Things appear to be picking up a bit tonight, after a slow-ish weekend. Not yet back on pace for 20k, but inching upward. For anyone concerned about the really important number in this group buy period, though, don't fret. Things are going just peachily:

  3. Also, nobody can accuse me of not using all the tools at my disposal just to win a casual bet Since... We have a new challenge! The Group Buy is in full force. Things are going so well that there's an exciting new challenge about to begin: reach 20,000 participants by the end of September, and we'll extend the Group Buy through October!

  4. Thank you for your great support and feedback so far. A final build 137 was posted (see start of thread) containing the following fixes. If you can please test this build and report back ASAP if you find any regressions. In particular, try exporting in ASIO mode and specifying a larger bounce buffer size. Please note that some plugins are unstable with larger buffer sizes (> 50 msec) Hang exporting project with arrangements containing IK Multimedia Plugins Bounce buffer size value was not respected in ASIO mode Exporting project with mono sidechain track send could cause problems flushing effects tails Exporting tracks with sidechains doesn't work if you don't make a direct track selection File Export dialog should default to Arrangements when launched from Arrangements Inspector Add new default config variables for "BounceFlushTailsMaxDurationSec" and "BounceFlushTailsThresholdDb"

  6. Ah yes, technically I can't win the bet any more. We get to 20K, the group buy is extended and it goes beyond my entry. Happy to lose in that case!

  12. Unfortunately, the possible "bump" turned out to be just a decent hour or two that inched the PM count a little higher than this morning: There's still time for another flurry or two -- and it seems likely we'll see one in the last day or two, at least -- but the trends have settled over the past few days such that the total projected with 10 days left would be somewhere around 19.6k (if you use the rate from all of September, with four major bumps included) or around 18.5k (if you expect the current lower rate to coast to the end). In graph form, it looks something like this: Maybe those emails will help over the next couple of days. The time, she will tell.

  13. I prefer to just zip the project folder; zip files are generally quite a bit smaller than bundles, and they can include Audiosnap edits. Also, a zip gives a collaborator direct access to the audio files even if he/she isn't using CW.

  14. The sad thing is that it is not only IK who goes this "nonsense" way! There is also NI (just look at their new effects), AAS (I noticed a resource hug some releases ago) and others. It's a shame, but more and more I have to replace those resource wasters with other plugins. Happily, there are a lot that do a better job!

  17. I can load all the Melda effects that I own without seen even slight change in the cpu progress bar. I can't load all the IKM effects without bringing my reasonable 8x 4.0MHz 6th gen i7-6700 to it's knees. To me it is a bit of nonsense all the high cpu demand vs high fidelity. When working with soft synths you don't create a song with just a single instance of Amplitube 5 and one other plugin, that would be obviously only one TR5 Tape Machine of your choice, as there would be not much cpu headroom left in that song. Plugins taking part in the song creation should have been optimized otherwise it is what it is, well a nonsense.

  19. Since I have not yet made a guess, I'll go ahead and enter 24 freebies now. That will leave some selections on the table as I only have 7 more to go to check all of the boxes but I'm more than okay with that. 😎

  20. Wait a minute...I WOULD HAVE guessed 24 freebies if this new challenge was a possibility. Jacques, you must start over.

  23. I'm 2fer. And that left me with beaucoup extra freebies that make no sense to use since I now own the whole kit and kaboodle that IK offers (and I even paid for Resonator).

  26. https://forums.steinberg.net/t/cubase-11-0-40-maintenance-update/741088 Cubase 11 Release notes Cubase 11.0.40 What's new? September 21, 2021 – We are happy to announce the release of Cubase 11.0.40 with several fixes and improvements for audio export, working with Broadcast Wave files and other areas. A lot of the fixes have been initialised by feedback from our artist community and user reports in our community and beta forum. Thank you for your constant support. Your feedback is highly appreciated and helps us every day to improve our products in your interest. Please download and install the Cubase 11.0.40 core application in the Steinberg Download Assistant, which should already be installed on your system. If not, you can find it here. Please share your feedback on the 11.0.40 update in our community forum. We have corrected the following features and functionality: Audio Export Using Export Audio Mixdown in Split Channels mode no longer causes the length of the exported track to be inaccurate. Using Export Audio Mixdown with job queues no longer results in error messages. Exporting audio with a different sample rate no longer changes the origin time in Broadcast Wave files. Exporting audio from projects with 5.1 channel configuration no longer produces audibly inconsistent results. Miscellaneous Different track actions, such as duplicating or disabling/enabling tracks, no longer causes Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol to lose sync. The name of a channel in the MixConsole is no longer truncated at certain zoom settings. Broadcast Wave file settings are now correctly saved in the project settings. Render in Place now creates Broadcast Wave files (instead of Wave files) to include data like origin time, track name and more in the file chunk. If HiDPI is enabled in the Preferences dialog on the General page, ARA Extensions again work as expected. Vertical scrolling on a trackpad is no longer reversed in macOS. Horizontal scrolling with Apple’s Magic Mouse is no longer reversed in macOS. Adding track pictures to multiple selected tracks at once is now possible, by pressing the Shift key and double-clicking on one of the selected tracks. Stability We have improved the stability in several areas of the application: When working in Cubase with a sample rate of 96kHz When editing chord symbols in the Score Editor

  29. Dropouts generate a toast message with a code and a link to the help. This may be useful in diagnosing the cause of the dropouts. As a rule, committing Region FX clips ASAP is a good idea. If one is unsure of the Region FX changes, archive a copy of the original track. Then there is something to fall back to if the Region FX changes need to be undone.

  30. Since I first whined about this I've done a lot of component swapping and, as you'd expect, time-based plugins (reverb, delay) can cause a noticeable spike in CPU consumption. What surprised me is how all of my favorite amps (mostly the newer models like VH4) absolutely chew through the CPU. Bad news for me because the tones are specific to those amps as well as the quality coming through in the new models.

  31. Note they have a $20 per plugin transfer fee on the buyer side, so they can be a tough sell for more than a few bucks for anything but the newest plugins that don't hit massive discounts.

  35. I'm hoping so based on my entry but trend-wise it looks like it's going to need some help to get there. Edit - and I know many here are already in more than once and have spread the word, I meant generally we need more people buying in.

  36. In practical terms of audible fidelity, it doesn't really matter whether you use it or not. Leave it on if doubling your memory usage isn't an issue and you just feel better knowing that any cumulative math imprecision is going to be buried so far below the noise floor that it can never matter. But I can think of no real-world use-case where it would be a necessity. Sure, you can go off into the weeds with the math and convince yourself there's a benefit, and an abstract case can be made that there truly is. But I'd challenge anyone to actually discern a difference in a blind A/B test. It's certainly easy enough to test for yourself: just export the exact same mix with it on and again with it off, then ask someone to randomly select one and then the other while you listen.

  37. That's the point. A 64-bit CPU communicates based on the length of 64 bits (or multiples thereof). Be it busses or address registers. Everything can be done on 64-bit wide communication. But that's the hardware side of things. On the software side of things, apps at all times use data types, that are totally detached from a processor's architecture. We wouldn't have seen the game Elite, which used 32-bit data types although running on a 16-bit processor architecture. Cakewalk internally uses certain data types to represent audio samples. A sample in dsp is the smallest slice of data in audio streams, a sample point. Because recording audio is done by getting a sample of the original every x seconds, where x is usually very small, like 44100 times per second. The value of a sample is a representation of how strong it makes the membrane of your speaker/headphone/etc deflect outwards or inwards, which is why it is considered to be in the range of -1 and +1, and so naturally such a number will have quite a few digits at times. In the past, for example when working with 16-bit data types, this was less of an issue, because the number was actually stored as a so called 16-bit signed integer, in the range -32768 to +32767. But that means, you only have 65536 descrete steps to represent a sound wave's "curviness". And so DAWs soon switched to using what's called a single-precision floating point format, or single float in short. This is a format that instructs the CPU about the actual value, instead of really being a value by itself. It is 32-bits wide, and this range is divided into 3 fields, the sign, exponent and mantissa. The CPU uses a single to do this calculation: -1^sign * 2^(exponent-127) * 1.mantissa the sign is 1 bit, the exponent 8 bits, and the mantissa 23 bits. To pass this scary part, let's just say, both exponent and mantissa are limiting. This format can't represent every possible value. And so the cpu rounds numbers to nearest neighbor, if the exact value can't be reached. This makes things imprecise on edge cases. For example, a sound wave's value could become a very small number instead of 0. And many more unwanted effects. When using "64-bit engine", Cakewalk switches the whole audio stream pipelines to so called double-precision floating point format, or double float in short. A double is 64-bits wide and its exponent is 11 bits wide and its mantissa 53 bits wide. This is still error-prone, but now there is way more headroom, before inaccuracies appear. This higher precision of course means, that everything takes a tiny bit longer to calculate and the memory usage of course is higher. Both is of no concern if your PC is a rather recent one, say, 5 years old. You also get a higher dynamic range (but of course only inside Cakewalk). As soon as you render to anything other than 64-bit, you will raise the noise floor again. So just use 64-bit engine mode, whenever you want (best, by activating it via Edit > Settings > Audio > Driver settings, I'm on the German version, so the path might be named a bit differently in English), the downside is neglectable and the higher precision will yield more accurate results (even if often we won't notice them).

  41. It just seemed awkward to me that with little changes in the release notes a plugin would double its CPU utilization. We can all upgrade our PCs so we have enough horse power, but I hope these companies take the time before a release to see what impact their changes do and if it could be optimized if needed. For now, I have rolled back the version of these plugins. It works better for me that way, although I know the day will come where I will feel the need to upgrade.

  45. I admire anyone that understands more than one language. I wish I did. I consider it a personal short coming on my part that I don't. This forum is for anyone that uses Cakewalk. Not everyone is a an English speaker. Thus as long as a member can answer in the language a question is asked in I think it would be great if we that are limited by having only one language be a little more tolerant. For the rest of us there are solutions for translating if we wish to do so. I have noticed many helpful members supply a translation often. That should be enough.

  46. In that case, you're stuck. Frozen means frozen. Maybe you can identify other tracks that can be safely frozen and thus free up resources for the harmonizer. I deal with this conundrum often. My favorite drum synth is Superior Drummer, which is a huge hog. But I like to be able to tweak the drums right up until I'm done with the project. Consequently, I freeze everything else first and leave that one instrument for last. Sometimes my computer just runs out of steam and I have no choice but to freeze the drums, too. After that, if I need to make a change I have to un-freeze, edit, and re-freeze. Just a fact of life until we all have supercomputers.
