New plug-in from Smacklabs the SL473 Compressor Based on a VCA design, this compressor has a unique compressor / limiter / expander function that can shape the dynamics of your source. This compressor was the main one for cutting vinyl records from the late 1970s onwards. Known for clean and transparent compression, you can actually compress the source without the typical negative effects. Expander controls are found on the left with yellow buttons. The expander has a fixed attack and ratio, giving the user control of the expander's Threshold and Recovery. The compressor is controlled by the black knobs, with the aspect ratio knob being red. The compressor has a fixed limit, to manage the fixed limit, user can add gain with "Compr Gain" button. This compressor really excels in mastering, mix bus, drum groups and vocals. Apparently FREE - Windows only https://www.buymeacoffee.com/smacklabs/sl473-vintage-vinyl-disc-cutting-compressor4 points

Oooooh yes Bernard Purdie slipped my mind. We also lost a great one about four years ago, but funk drumming (and the many other genres that sampled him) would be nowhere near where it is without Clyde Stubblefield.3 points

Only now I've noticed that the monthly PA voucher cancelled the previous one effectively bringing the price down from 39,99 to 14,99.3 points

I believe the calibration is built into ARC3 given the consistency of the MEMS mics. Here’s an interesting read on the mics. https://audioxpress.com/article/fresh-from-the-bench-ik-multimedia-arc-2-5-mems-test-microphone3 points

Talking about the Crew, you can’t discount the remarkable and bizarre story of Jim Gordon. In addition to doing thousands of sessions, also played with Traffic, Derek and the Dominoes, Zappa, Delaney and Bonnie, Alice Cooper, Plastic Ono, etc. Geez, he even co-authored (arguably) the coda to Layla. Amazingly versatile and distinctive drummer. Undone apparently by his then undiagnosed schizophrenia, and murder of his mother (for which he now serves a life sentence at Vacaville). Other “character” drummers I dig are the inimitable Bernard Purdie, and yes Charlie Watts whose meanderings around the beat with Keef have always been an integral part of the Stones sound. Feel better Charlie!!3 points

I binned Netflix when they increased the price after gaining 30 million extra customers due to lockdowns, which also meant that they spent next to nothing on new content, which led to them swimming in cash which then drove the share price up considerably. I figured that I would probably resub at some point that still left me up on the deal compared to if they had just let it be as it was, but I haven't really missed it TBH. Binned Sky before that because of their policy of giving far better deals to someone new that is prepared to sign a 12 month contract than someone who had been paying for 20+ years. Prime...........good value of you already order lots of stuff, but I don't so as just a TV package it's not all that IMO. Anyway, Izotope...........not a bad price, but no thanks. Putting Pro on the end of the name of products you already own may work for some, but not for me.2 points

I constantly ask myself this question when it comes to Izotope MPS, being an owner of MPS3 Am I that sh*t at this mixing/mastering game that without the latest subscription, the end product will be rubbish? The answer has invariably been No I did this in the hardware era and still produced quality stuff, I have done this in the software era and produced quality stuff. Don't get me wrong The suite is impressive, I use Ozone a lot in addition to other plugins, but nothing here says without the pro version I cannot deliver a broadcast quality, professional result. It is the equivalent to walking on crutches before you have a leg injury just in case you have one in the future. You end up reliant on the crutches even though you don't actually need them If Izotope had released Ozone, TBC, Insight and RX as a subscription model in the first place, they would have been swamped with sign ups, but for a mature (and brilliant I must add) product suite with little headroom for improvement, the words "Cash" and "Cow" come to mind.2 points

There are other features that are limited/not included, the easiest way to see and compare is via the charts on the AmpliTube 5 page. Edit - but if updated amp impedance is what is being mentioned/asked about, that is in AT5 CS.2 points

It's pricey for me. Meanwhile all of my 8dio stuff is installed on 3 systems ready to load up with no gotchas.2 points

It would certainly be detrimental to Izotope if a "Subscription" messed with your Perpetual Liceneses. To the best my knowledge you could not transfer it to a different email address because it would be in the same email address as your other products, that is unless you sold your entire account.2 points

You realise that the free version does not have the new cabinet technology? If you have only been playing with AT5 and not AT5CS you might not have had a chance to hear the difference. I am still using AT5CS at the moment and I would upgrade to AT5SE to get that.2 points

Agreed. The $49deal is really sweet with what you get for it. And the fact that if you do cancel, your projects remain the same. That feature is welcomed in the subscription world.2 points

I think its pretty good. I dont regret my purchase. But is a bit of a slow loader. FWIW.. I still switch back and forth between AT4 and AT 5. Depends on the project. The ability to drag and drop fx and cabs is pretty cool and handy when trying new sounds.2 points

It’s a D thing. The opening riff is something I realised I frequently play quite unconsciously when auditioning or creating synth voices. Created using; Three of Arturia’s Mini V (Mini Moog) Each one is the same basic voice that has had a little tweak of some kind, filter envelope reduced, different footage oscillators, filter cut off start point changed, Emphasis as Moog call it. Cherry Audio’s: Eight voice, and their new MemoryMood (Memory Moog) emulation. Written in D major, because I have a thing for both D and Dm. Thanks for listening.1 point

It goes in my mouth? No wonder it sounded so muffled. I think traditionally the duck bill end goes in the mouth. But I could be mistaken.1 point

I just bought Izotope Production Bundle (first version with Ozone 7 Advanced) second-hand for $30 ☺️ No need for the latest shiny thing and, best of all, subscription free.1 point

2 questions (because I would purchase for Groove3): 1. does this purchase screw up your perpetual license? I assume not IF you don't register it in your account? 2. can you transfer the subscription to a different email than used for purchase? IOW, sell it.1 point

To change per-project settings for all future projects, change the project templates. If using BandLab supplied project templates make sure to save them under different names or use a custom folder location for project templates. Existing projects must be changed one at a time.1 point

I don't think the MEMS is specific to the particular piece of software you download. The mic should come with a calibration file you load into ARC3. Note also that you do not need to use an IKM mic. ARC3 can use other measurement mics as well.1 point

Yes, at this point, you need to be using a new(er) computer. A Pentium 4 with 4G of RAM and a spinny hard drive is not adequate in this day and age. It's a museum piece. The only thing I can think of to do with such a system is install Lubuntu and use it for web browsing. You don't mention what the full specs of your laptops are, but if they have at least 8G RAM and i5 processors, you should be able to record 6 tracks at once using Cakewalk by BandLab. Better still if they have SSD's. However, you also need to drop a couple of hundy on an interface that can handle 6 inputs. Look for used on Craig's List or Reverb.com. Your XP system has had a long, long life and you've saved a lot of money by keeping it running. It's time to invest that money in newer hardware.1 point

Speaking of "hired guns", the "Wrecking Crew" is an awesome documentary film about the session musicians (unsung heroes) famed for having played on numerous hit recordings throughout the 1960s and early 1970s. https://www.imdb.com/video/vi801225241?playlistId=tt1185418&ref_=tt_ov_vi https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wrecking_Crew_(2008_film)1 point

Creating drum maps is a typing exercise. One thing that can speed up the process is Ins2Map a tool available at http://dis.sesseler.de/ From the old SONAR & Cakewalk by BandLab (CbB) Resources and Utilities page UPDATE: This is an old thread. Since it was created, starting with CbB 2021.06 supports persistent alternate note names in the label pane next to the note pane. In most cases, for me, this is enough to forget about drum maps. Alternate note names use instrument definitions. I have created several instrument definition files for drum synths and posted links to them in the instrument definition section of this forum.1 point
