  1. I was thinking it was the TWO licenses 🤪

  2. First...it should be added to any license that currently has valid WUP...not have to wait until you BUY WUP. THAT is the BIG mistake.

  3. only valid during WUP? It would be more cost effective just to re-buy the plugins on sale, thus giving 2 seats per. Too little to late.

  4. It's quite often on sale for about £15/$19 at Plugin Boutique (just not at the moment). So if you're patient you could save another $20.

  5. I have Anthology XI so there may be some individual plug-ins in the collection that were not updated. All the plug-ins not in Anthology were updated except for SP2016 which was updated 2020-05-04. Installers available from https://www.eventideaudio.com/support/downloads The link also has Newfangled Audio updates from 2020-05-07

  6. The first benefit is how you feel when you WUP to get your second license. The second benefit is how you feel a year later when you WUP again to keep your second license.

  7. It should apply to all your licenses whether currently covered by WUP or not. This comes off off as another 1/2 @ssed method of wringing more money from their user base.

  18. Exactly. Which to me means to me they are trying something to sell more WUP. I see that as the original WUP plan ain't working out so well. Not like they thought it would. I ain't buying it. But like Starise, I ain't gonna hold it against them. What I have from them works, and works very well for the money I spent. Now that bang-for-buck value would go away if I was forced to WUP. But so far that hasn't happened. Not yet.

  19. Maybe more people than I realized move between two computers often? I didn't see this being a widespread thing. It's wasted on me. I have a laptop for anything I don't do in the studio. If I need it, I grab the usb out of my desktop which is almost never. For me, it's a nice addition to the WUP "just in case". I will probably never use it. I don't begrudge Waves. This appears to be another way to persuade people to upgrade their WUP since this doesn't go backward to older licenses as far as I know.

  21. The biggest difference I see (and yes, this is a generalization!) I see is that old skool engineers asked "what if?", while new skool ones ask "how do I?"

  22. I'll give them credit for trying. This means they realize that many other companies allow for more than one PC. And I agree with Larry that they should allow at the very least two installs for products currently WUP'd. With the second license staying active as long as you don't move it.

  26. Add Pharlight to the list for Komplete Ultimate 13, which may be out as early as August, but certainly in the fall. Already released: Mallet Flux Noire Session Guitarist: Picked Acoustic Session Guitarist: Electric Sunburst Deluxe Straylight Super 8 Mysteria Play Series: Modular Icons, Lo-Fi Glow Not yet out, but very likely: New Discovery Series 20 more Maschine Expansions/Battery Kits. New Modpack series of 3 effects plugins, including the Raum reverb And no doubt there will be more. Komplete Ultimate 13 will include everything that is released by NI before it comes out. Sometimes they include a product that isn't ready yet, like Massive X with Komplete 12. And sometimes they introduce a product at the same time as Komplete, like Symphony Essentials with Komplete 11. What will be in regular Komplete I can only guess, but usually they leave out the products that are the most expensive, so something like Mysteria ($299) is unlikely to be included.

  27. Hi Bjorn, I am always extremely reluctant to give feedback or advice to others. You've made a good effort. If I may share my experience (please take it with a grain of salt!) I would say listen carefully to the attacks and releases of your strings. Your bassoon sounds fine. Sampled wind hardly ever need the work that strings need to get that "singing feeling". The first thing I do is try find the right string sample for the passage. This might involve going through a half a dozen or more of samples to find the one that works the best, taking into account dynamics, tempo, phrasing, etc. After choosing the best sample-set, then comes the midi controllers to make sure the attack and releases also fit the phrasing. In the opening, the releases of the strings are too short; the phrase can be made more musical simply by making them a little bit longer so they don't' sound as though notes are being cut off too soon. I hope i am not overstepping my bounds, I am really hesitant to be critical of another's work and I don't generally receive constructive criticism often enough myself. But I think with a few tweaks of the string attacks and releases you'll get a better sound. String attacks are always slower than wind, percussion or even brass attacks, and certainly much slower than crisp synth timbres. Best, Jerry www.jerrygerber.com

  30. I've got to admit, I'm pretty old-school in my approach. When tracking, I try to record the sound exactly as I want it to be heard, which means recording it with compression + EQ etc already applied. The only exception to this is guitar, where I record both the dry and the effected signal. Vocals also tend to be recorded dry. With mixing, any edits are destructive. If I'm getting rid of bleed or rumbles in silence, I'll permanently remove it. Same with any pitch or timing correction. My reasoning being that if it sounded bad enough to need to be edited, then there's no way I'd want to keep the original... though if it's someone else's performance, I'll just keep a backup of the original files. In saying that, I'm much more likely to re-record a bad take than resort to editing. The end result is a much simpler session to work with, less plugins/automation, and much less strain on my CPU. With Cakewalk though, you can effectively do both by archiving / hiding the original tracks and work with copies.

  39. AMD's implementation is essentially the same. My 6 core Ryzen can run 12 threads (and appears as 12 in Windows task manager). From Windows' perspective, AMD' and Intel's CPUs are in this respect indistinguishable.
    1 point
  40. Intel uses hyper-threading in addition to multi-threading on certain processors. The way I see it is like this: Say you have four cores. If your software can run on all 4 cores simultaneously, that is done by using 4 threads. In other words, this is multi-threading. It is on by default in multi core Intel CPUs, but your application software has to be written to support it. Hyper-threading is when Intel enables 2 threads per core, resulting in extra "virtual" cores. So a 4 core Intel processor can run 8 threads when hyper-threading is enabled. So a quad core processor, with hyper-threading enabled, will appear to have 8 "virtual" cores. I cannot speak for AMD in this regard, as I have never used their processors.

  41. Thanks for the list, just what I need. Still going through it and already know a lot more than last week! Have you covered arps in your videos? I know that there are some inbuilt arps in Cakewalk but not really what I am looking for. What I need to know is how to create arps (ala Zimmer) that can play in any key once stored. Any advice? Regards.

  42. I find that a lot of the free VSt's are very dated and a lot of them are only 32's which is something I try to avoid. You definitely get what you pay for most of he times. Drums are probably the most needed VST for 99% of the people making music and I've never found a free VST drummer that sounded much better than SI drums. And so far for me, only Ample Bass is marginally better than SI Bass. I'm spoiled because I have a lot of the stuff that came with Sonar over the years, So far my total investment in 3rd party stuff might be $100. I bought the Air complete package on sale for $29 and then a few other audio effects and things always when on super discounts. My favorite freebie is Mr Tramp, http://www.vst4free.com/free_vst.php?plugin=Mr_Tramp&id=275 it really has that narly Wurly grunge. Another I use a lot is the Combo V organ. http://www.vst4free.com/free_vst.php?plugin=Combo_Model_V&id=1004
