Thanks to an inquiry by Alex, I did a quick search and found out why Bo (a.k.a., Space Cowboy) never made it to the new forum... Bo's Obituary He passed away over a year ago! March 21st, 2018... Besides the obvious, back when I was forced to do just about anything to survive, he bought one of my custom guitars with the stipulation that I could buy it back once I could afford to. Now it appears that both he and the guitar are gone forever... RIP Bo! ๐ (Or you can call him Maurice.๐)1 point

I use Cakewalk since Pro Audio 9 (circa 1999). I love it and its awesome mixing tools, but I feel in terms of audio editing is not the quicker DAW in the world. As you asked the users for requests... ...these are my basic ones: EASY CLIP GAIN NON-DESTRUCTIVE NORMALIZING QUICKLY ADJUSTABLE SELECTION SELECTION LENGHT INFO (I posted images based on Vegas Pro video editor, because I use it, but these are very common features in DAWs too.) Thanks Cakewalk and BandLab for asking the users๐ MarianoGF::.1 point

Your instinct is right in that a change of driver is necessary, but that aspect of that driver behavior pertinent to audio performance is to find a video card/driver that's "agile" in letting go of the PCIe slot. The video card driver of the R7 250 is possibly "hogging" the PCIe slot, but that behavior is not specifically related of the number of active lanes within that slot. There is an audio forum that I frequent that has good things to say about AMD RX580 cards regarding their compatibility with audio performance. I have an Nvidia GTX 1070 card in my machine which is supposed to be less good in that respect, but it's working fine with no audio issues. Many people have done well for audio work using the native Intel graphics functions. Here is a link to a long thread on the issue. In short, there are confirmations and counter-cases, so it's nothing absolute in either direction: [https://www.gearslutz.com/board/music-computers/1212416-dpc-latency-better-amd-graphic-cards-3-card-comparison.html ]1 point

As the old Cakewalk forum is quickly falling into oblivion, I might grab the opportunity to repost a Rapture Pro related post which I created there in December 2017. Those of you that have seen my Gran Vista and Carbon themes for CbB might already suspect that I suffer from a serious case of graphical OCD, and in order to remove all doubts Iโll give you (ta-da) an updated and improved version of the old post here: [old_post] Yes, I know this is the Deals forum. But in case someone didn't know (and actually cares), it is possible to add your own custom graphics to the Rapture Pro or Rapture Session browser. This can be convenient if you want to have a more visually appealing structure in the browser for third party preset libraries. And of course if you've got Rapture Classic and/or Dimension Pro expansion packs and would like to give them dedicated slot images. It's just a matter of creating a png file in the format 193x87 pixels for each such library, place them in the respective program library root folder and name them exactly the same as the folder but with a .png extension. For instance, in the case of the fisound Universal 120 V2 sound bank mentioned above, after installation on a Windows system with Rapture Pro installed, the default program folders would be "C:\Cakewalk Content\Rapture Pro\Programs\Universal 120" and "C:\Cakewalk Content\Rapture Pro\Programs\Universal 120 v2". If you've also got the free bonus pack you can place it in a folder called "Universal 120 v2 Bonus". Your actual paths may differ, but you get the general idea. You would then create three png images called "Universal 120.png", "Universal 120 v2.png" (and in case you've got the bonus pack, "Universal 120 v2 Bonus.png)." Restart Rapture Pro and the images should turn up. Here's how it looks over at my place. Oh, and to make life a bit easier for anyone interested, here are my png files ready to be downloaded. Just right click and select "Save As..." (or whatever option your particular browser might offer). You would have to rename them following the instructions above though. [/old_post] Ok, old news, so whatโs the update, you might ask. Well, considering the current thread it is of course a similar png file which Iโve made for Universal 120 vol. 3. Here it is, based on the original image found over at fisound. I hope that Chad doesnโt mind, otherwise just let me know and Iโll remove it. For instance, if you have Rapture Pro and installed the sound bank to the default library, you would place the image in โC:\Cakewalk Content\Rapture Pro\Programs\Universal 120 v3โ and rename it โUniversal 120 v3.pngโ.1 point

The problem arises when you factor in, where would the frozen content go in a bus ? Buses aren't designed like normal audio tracks but more of a patch point, thus the AUX tracks feature that was introduced a year or so ago.1 point

It would be great I agree. I believe its pretty easy now though using AUX Tracks.1 point

Got the ENGL E646VS for 4$...... Really, I can't miss on amp sim, however bad reviews might be Played on it and found it be quite decent ! Especially good on the cleans..... For Hi Gains, anyways I use a PRS Archon from Waves (for my 8 stringer) which I feel is the ultimate high gain amp, and Kuassa Creme (for more 80s style high gain), . For all other purposes, I use the Audio Assault amps which are too good for their price. The only amp sims I'm disappointed with are Kazrog Thermionik.... Somehow, they seem to have that fuzz one encounters in Bias FX and other such suites with high gain.1 point

Well, I have learned something, namely that part of the problem appears to be the result of having activated the native reverb on the Synchron and Vienna players. So I turned it off and used Lexicon Pantheon on the synths instead. I'm working on a three movement piece, and the first movement had the native reverb on, the second had it off. The second movement sounded better, there was less latency. I have gone back to the method of not using any native reverb on my vsti, instead using Pantheon on the synths, then sending them to the EW Spaces Reverb bus. This also results in better sound overall. Still some minor latency but much better.1 point

Again, thanks everyone. Mark, the Linux-based option sounds good...now I just need to learn enough to be able to do it. I thought that making images (with Macrium, I've heard Windows backup/restore is funky, even though it worked once for me) and recovery discs would take care of any issues...apparently not. Thankfully, all my data is always backed up, including what's relevant from the ๐ drive. So at least no data will be gone. It looks like it's time for a complete re-install, unless I can somehow use a working computer to repair the disk that's not working, and repair Windows from a different computer. But that seems like a long shot. Then again, it's about time I had an SSD boot drive Oh well. I wrote a column for Pro Sound News years ago that said making music with computers would continue to get less reliable, and aside from my current experience, there are the "death by a thousand cuts" posts all over the web about problems, bugs, and glitches involved in running music software on a computer. I think that ultimately, the answer is going to be that you have to use hardware that's no more than 2 or 3 years old max, have two computers (one with the bare minimum of software needed to do what you do, the other with more specialized programs and non-music programs), and have all copy protection be licenses on hardware dongles, with backup licenses in the cloud, because you can't trust licenses keyed to specific hardware. I've already "dongled" as many programs as possible when given a choice of a dongle-based or computer-based license. Programs also need to include an easy way to backup all the data stored in folders like Documents (Windows) or Libraries (Mac) so that you can restore your preferences, presets, and other elements that don't install with the program, but are part of your using it.1 point

I have Win updates disabled and only enable it when I want to update. I often make image files of my boot drive and I can restore those images either inside of Windows 10 or with a boot CD that has Acronis or Macrium. I also have a 2nd HD with a fairly current Win 10 image from a few months ago. When I want to use it I disconnect the main boot SATA cable and plug it in the alternate boot HD. A few years ago I took a lot of time researching hidden Win updates and found out how to stop them too. I few years ago in Dec using Sonar, there was a mysterious MS hidden update that messed up a lot of DAWs. Even reverting to image files only worked for about 30 min until MS applied the hidden update. Noel explained the whole fiasco, maybe some of you remember. This post is such a wake up call for all of us to have several tools in our toolbox, because this sort of thing can happen to any of us. To have to reinstall from scratch is so time consuming. I never trusted system restore points and the recovery CD enough to not have these other tools. Sometimes I feel like a survivalist, always devising means of surviving a disaster. Murphy's Law sure applies to computers.1 point

Oddly, it's cheaper, if you already have Pro Q3, to buy Pro-R and Pro C2 than to buy the Essentials Bundle...there's no upgrade either...go figure. Personally, I'd rather have the individuals, as they're easier to sell (not that anyone would want to ๐)1 point

Tip for those who want to have their newly downloaded Cakewalk Reference Guide but a menu click away: I added a link to the Utilities menu in my installation that launches the Guide using @scook's ToolsEditor utility. The utility has far more uses than just launching a PDF, but it does that without even breathing hard. To find out how to add the new Reference Guide to your Utilities Menu go here: http://forum.cakewalk.com/Adding-programs-to-the-SONAR-Utilities-Menu-a-new-tool-Updated-for-CbB-m3237117.aspx1 point

Hi, Ken, You've got a cool piece of Dark Metal here with an almost operatic vibe!๐ค Interesting lyrics and powerful metal vocals. In the intro and some other sections, the vocal style reminded me of System of a Down. James also did some really nice shredding in there, and you can't go wrong with our buddy, Ed on the bass! Nice work by all three of you, great collab!๐ Have a good one, Bob1 point

OK it's heavy, which honestly is not my forte but I still liked it. So I will offer a ridiculous idea: in the section where you are trading between the two chords (like in the 2:00 area) you have a ringy snare? or tom? on the second and fourth beat. It is very much a pitched snare with a ring at a particular pitch. The pitch totally works for the second chord, but it's quite off pitch for the first chord. I bet with some fancy pitch shifting of it onto another track, you could pitch the snare right in tune with the key of the first chord. Or if the drums are virtual, just create instance #2 and pitch that snare up for the first chord. But that would be totally ridiculous! Did that make any sense? probably not. The main things is the vocals (gutturally great), the guitar lines in the lead (very cool) and the nifty drum fills. And that wall of guitars at the end, I wanted that to keep going. Very strong. cheers gents, -Tom1 point
