  1. Just to chime in here, when it comes to Scott's plugin settings disappearing, it's possible he's having issues related with using VST2 and VST3 of the same plugin instances. I haven't used Fab Filter in a while, but I regularly work with a number of different third party plugins (including Waves) and have not seen that issue myself. If there's a concrete case where we can see a problem with Cakewalk not retaining settings with a project, we would fix that ASAP. Sometimes problems like this are on the plugin side, and we frequently will work with third party developers to troubleshoot where any potential breakdown is happening. As for his spacebar issue, that's the first I've heard of it. It sounds like possibly he was doing something on his system that was preventing Cakewalk from having the proper focus for the shortcuts to work. We are always interested in resolving pain points for users. If something doesn't seem right, we recommend you contact us. A lot of times, something on the system might just need to be adjusted, and we can help with that. Otherwise we can verify any potential issues and fix them. We're always working to make Cakewalk by BandLab be the best program it can be.

  4. Those M50x's are nice head phones as well. I brought 4 - M40X headphones for vocalist a while back, and a pair of KRK KNS8400 for myself. Now I have my eye on those Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro. Darn that Larry for tempting me again 😖

  5. I you have H-EQ, it has API mode, which is indistinguishable from Waves' take on API (and Neve and Pultec and SSL).

  6. We may have a different definition of a deal. Don't recall Sean ever offering his plug-ins at a discounted price. Do consider $50 a good deal for this plug-in though.

  9. This is not as simple as you think. Firstly, the Mackie HUI protocol is "closed" - in other words, you have to get the protocol docs directly from Mackie. I've actually got some notes from someone who reverse engineered it to some extent, but they're are just notes, not full documentation. Secondly, a real HUI controller is needed. Hardware like the SL-MKii only implements part of the protocol and doesn't have all the displays & controls a HUI has. Even the MCU has only some of the controls. You'd need a real HUI to test with in order to claim that you offer true HUI support. Even with the docs & hardware, this would take several weeks of development. I have actually toyed with the idea of doing this (based on the HUI mode of the MCU), but I really don't have the time to spare (and it would be a significant amount of time, seeing as I'd probably have to further reverse engineer the protocol), on something that would serve no benefit to my setup - MCU mode works fine for me. Maybe if enough people really, really want this I can be otherwise persuaded.... It would be great if Cakewalk picked this up, but even Cakewalk's Mackie Control support was written by someone outside Cakewalk (Chris Boucher).

  10. I think you are right that it can depend on the music style/genre when it comes to using some of the more"creative" effects. I have many projects that have more effects tracks/busses than there are audio tracks...

  13. This is the latest maintenance update for all Cubase 10 versions. In addition to several fixes, 10.0.20 includes improvements for the color handling, the context menus, the hitpoint detection and other areas within Cubase 10. A number of plug-ins have been updated to include updated graphics for high resolution displays... some of them even have had a complete re-design. Our tip: check out the updated ModMachine. downloads- https://www.steinberg.net/en/support/downloads/cubase_10.html

  22. Given the vagaries of the VST specification, it's not at all impossible that CbB calls various VST APIs in a different order to (some) other hosts. And some plug-ins expect one order, and others another, and a third kind don't mind...

  24. That is an interesting theory. Like a "race" condition in programming? One of the things that I've run into time and again in my software QA career, both as a pro and as member of various beta programs, is that developers invariably test and repro on their own incredibly high-spec systems, whereas we mere mortals are still using Core 2 Quads, or maybe a spinny drive, or we're tracking projects with 10 drum mics or whatever. Yes, Noel is a recordist, he goes into the field and does projects, but not with clunker hardware that he's saving up to replace or upgrade a bit at a time. And is he recording metal like Scott? Does he have a friend like I do who likes to hit the vape stick, put on the cans, and literally, loop 20 takes on drums until he finds his groove? That resulted in 80 clips, all of which he kept sitting in the lanes until comping time rolled around, in case we needed something from one of them. Which was his right. On QA teams, they always put the new person in charge of "low-end testing" where they would have to maintain one computer at the lowest advertised spec and go through the agonizing process of testing the program on it. And then be present for the product manager's arguments with the programmers about whether or not we should raise the lowest advertised spec. Programmers: yes. Manager: no. But that's one cause I have observed for bugs like this happening in the field more than in the office. Diversity of hardware.

  25. This threw me for a moment when I was reading this thread, but then I tried what you were doing. I hadn't realized it, but in the Inspector, the Track Name does more than just display the name of the track, it is actually a button. When you click on it, it pops up a context menu that lets you select which track, bus or hardware output you want to display in the Inspector pane. This is kind of trippy to me, I thought the Inspector always showed the track you had selected in Console or Track view. You may also lock the current track, bus, or hardware output in the Inspector pane so that it can't be overridden by selecting a track elsewhere. I can see the problem, though, he doesn't label it in the illustration as the Track Name Control, so when you read it, WTF? So much to be learned by reading other people's questions and answers here on the forum.

  26. While I was looking around the net for a Cakewalk video I came across his YT video where I felt he was actually bashing the software, to an extent where I left a comment saying "You seem like a very bitter man"... because that video was just uncalled for. The videos are malicious, including the one on the OP... he also puts a category of people for whom it would be worth it downloading Cakewalk, "those getting used to digital audio etc", really? Quite a lot I could say but it's really not necessary.

  27. Could you develop your opinion more? I think that this guy is making a real effort on creating free content for the people interested on Cakewalk but he cannot continue due to those bugs. Nevertheless, he is a reasonable person and he mantains his commitment of creating tutorials for it.

  28. Not FAQ's plural, just this FAQ. And added to the top of the main Cakewalk section. We already have one about the fab new PDF Reference Guide. This matter appears to still be a point of confusion for legacy Sonar users, and stragglers still wander in here all confused. Some of them don't even know that there is no longer a Cakewalk Inc., that there is no more Sonar, that they don't have to pay for upgrades....how they make it as far as creating a BandLab account and posting on this forum without learning that must require real determination. Having a big sign in the main parlor telling them what they need to know about upgrading to Cakewalk by BandLab would be a nice courtesy to them and to those of us who like to answer questions and would rather not answer these same ones over and over again.

  29. I think that him should stay considering that he has the biggest Cakewalk oriented Youtube channel... In fact, I think that Bandlab should contact him for keep making content and also try to fix these bugs as soon as possible (Fabfilter is not a underground plugin company and all of reported bugs on the video are severe).

  30. Yeah. You can automate the "mute" function, which means some people surely do mute/unmute as part of their mixing process. I feel ya. As a former studio owner I learned to be up front with clients about just what was possible and what was not. I tried to accommodate their every wish, but I told them they can't have everything (this was in the 24-track tape recorder days), and I made sure to warn them that one more guitar solo was going to erase something, take yer pick of things you can do without. When I had the chance to be in charge of a project, I tried to have a clear idea of where it was going, and kept only the keepers. I wasn't always right, but often enough. With modern digital recording, it feels as if you really can have everything, but as you've discovered, you can't. Now I work only on my own projects, at home, and part of the challenge is managing all the choices. I'm a very understanding client, though, so it's not too bad to work with me.

  36. Thank you for your kind words in the previous post (and this one). I think people think "they're not NEW so they're not as good" but as far as algorithmic reverbs go, if the algos are nailed nicely and the controls work well, then it is almost timeless.

  37. Which reminds me...I wonder whatever happened to the content I created for Sonar (like the 30th anniversary material and the Anderton Collection FX Chains), and the Rapture Expansion Packs that were never released. As to the video, I'm about ready to do one like that on the latest Windows 10 update, which bricked my computer (even with multiple attempts), until I did a pre-update system restore. I think Cakewalk and other companies might be having a hard time trying to keep up with the moving goal posts. I realize some of these bugs have been around for a long time, but as Mark said: ...and it would be even worse if the problem is due to something that keeps changing. Also, Brian's comment is telling: So if Mark's theory is correct and CbB loads the plug-in before it initializes itself - i.e., Cakewalk is faster than another program - then the other, less efficient program would appear to be working correctly whereas Cakewalk (and similarly efficient programs) would not be. For any program, I try to stay within the program's ecosystem as much as possible. Thankfully I still have all my old Sonar plug-ins so I can still use mostly Cakewalk plug-ins in my CbB projects. The other stalwarts I use in all my other DAWs - Waves, IK, and Native Instruments - don't give me any problems. I haven't personally experienced the issues the video references.

  40. I agree, it's important that BandLab take these bugs seriously. IMHO the main issue raise by the video is the plugin settings one. I appreciate that there's a workaround (i.e. save it as a Cakewalk preset), but to be honest this workaround is totally impractical for any reasonably sized project. Even on a 25 track project with 3 plugins per track, that's 75 presets, which you'd have to save individually each time you tweak a setting. Not to mention the mess your preset folders would get in once you've got a number of projects. To be honest I've not noticed this issue personally (i.e. it might have happened, but I've missed it), but it is a real worrying one. I suspect it's a real nightmare for BandLab to reproduce reliably as well, and as to finding out what the underlying cause is, that would be another nightmare. My guess is it's a timing issue, where Cakewalk is restoring the settings before the plugin has fully initialised itself. The plugin then initialises itself to its default settings overwriting the settings Cakewalk has just applied. I wonder if when you load a project, and the project immediately thinks it's changed (i.e. there's a * next to the filename at the top), is an indicator that this has happened. If this is the case, I suspect taking a mix snap shot just before you save a project, and restoring the snapshot just after you load a project would be a usable workaround.

  41. Hi everyone.. The only reason a share this is because the bugs are real and think that bandlab people have to see this. I spend too much time too dealing with a few bugs that delays me in my jobs and dateline.. Forgive me if I did not do it in the best way. I am trying to delete this "Topic" but i don't how.... Sorry for my little english.

  43. Like Lynn, I bought SF12 Suite a bit ago and had previous Sound Forge versions since its Sonic Foundry origins then through Sony and now Magix. I didn't think SF12 was all that much better than previous versions, but it was nice to get 64-bit support. If the upgrade were $50 or so, I'd buy it just to show support. I think I'll probably skip this one.
