  3. Reading and looking at your screen shots on the other thread your issue is totally a matter of using the correct theme for Cakewalk You’re using a theme with a dark background which for some reason is the default. I also totally cannot work with that. So we have custom themes that fix that issue BUT. The new Sonar doesn’t support custom themes yet. The only theme with a white PRV is Mercury. Then track view looks terrible. So try Mercury the PRV has seen a million improvements since Sonar 4 and once you learn about them you would never go back. Id say it’s strongest asset is the smart tool. You really need to learn all its options to see how powerful it is compared to all other DAWS. You really have little choice but to move forward. We all had to do this and there’s always a short period of transition. All of us are going though this right now with Sonar. Just look at the thread titles on this page.

  7. I've bought libraries from Dream Audio Tools in the past and they're decent. 5 bucks is pretty hard to beat for what they're offering. For those unfamiliar with the developer, they make KONTAKT libraries. This library requires the full version of KONTAKT.

  9. I have two 2 TB Samsung T7 USB3.2 external SSDs, one for work files and seldom/never used Kontakt instruments, and the other for backups. They're great. I spent the money for a 2 TB Samsung X5 Thunderbolt 3 external SSD for a samples drive. It was between 2 to 3 times more expensive and 2 to 3 times the size. And it runs warm. But where the T7's are about 9x faster than a 7500 RPM spinner, the X5's are about 40 times faster. I've never had a single glitch running a sampled VI.

  10. All I can say is anyone who has used Cakewalk would never survive using Next. The best example is Cakewalk’s user manual is over 1,900 pages and Next’s manual is only 246 pages. It is totally nothing todo with Cakewalk or Sonar it is like using a completely different brand. You can’t open Cakewalk by Bandlab projects. It is more aimed at the people who have been using the Bandlab app so they can work on a computer instead of a mobile device. You have nothing to loose by signing up for the free 3 day demo.

  18. Exactly, as with most things. Sort of like MS Word... fine and dandy for text... I only get irate when someone sends me a file that the headings are all FUBAR because they copied/pasted from numerous documents and Word pastes that formatting by default. So many programs have features you will never need or use.

  27. There's really nothing to screen shot because everything looks normal. Anyway, I don't know what caused it, but the solution was to make sure "Select controllers along with notes" is enabled, delete the entire bar in which the zero length notes start happening, and re-enter that measure. If I delete the notes WITHOUT "Select controllers..." also enabled, the problem remained. Even though there were no visible pedal markings in that bar! Moving on...

  28. Well it seems my Cakewalk doesn't do what everyone else does. Could it be my version 2024.02 (build 098, 64bit) has had all the best features removed as there will be a new pay for version coming out. I am going to uninstall and re-install in case there was something I missed. If anyone knows this version to be restricted can they direct me to an historic download site with a previous version?

  29. What consistently astounds me, repeatedly witnessed, is when individuals inquire on the Reaper forum whether a particular function is possible, only to receive a response along the lines of, "No, but I've just created this script, that should do what you need, and you're free to use it."

  30. While all the above are the correct answer, there is another one to think about, at present you can have them both for a year st s discount of 30%, either $10.99 for the first month the $14.99 for the remaining 11, or $104.99 for the first year, then $149.50 for any further year/years you choose to continue. You can cancel at anytime, but you best read up the terms etc if you decided to go down this path. You basically get both Cakewalk Next and Cakewalk Sonar and a heap of extras, 'perks' that may or may not be of interest to you. https://blog.bandlab.com/bandlab-membership/ I think that will get you there, how long the 30% discount lasts I know not.

  33. Sup dawg, I heard you like drums. Well, BestService is beating their own prices on these beats. Get it on. Bang a gong. SD3 and all SDX have dropped in price from when the deal was first posted by trager at the start of March. I'd kept the tabs open the past few days after the Easter codes came out and I refreshed the page earlier, just in case, only to be rewarded with some extra sweet last minute price drops. I'm not sure how long these prices will last, but I'm guessing it won't be long. Superior Drummer 3 was $276 now $251.26 and use #CHICK20 code to get it down to $231.26 with 8.97 BestCoin towards your next order SDX Orchestral Percussion now $234, I didn't manage to capture exactly what it was previously but it was at least $20 more. After #CHICK20 and BestCoin from SD3 I got it for $205.48. SDX Value Pack was $322 down to $293 and use the #CHICK20 code to get it down to $273 minus whatever BestCoin you have. As I bought this after Orchestral Percussion, it brought the avg price for Rooms of Hansa, Hitmaker and Death&Darkness to $88 each, for a total of $264.91 and left me with 10.47 BestCoin for my next purchase. https://www.bestservice.com/en/sdx_value_pack.html https://www.bestservice.com/en/sdx_orchestral_percussion.html https://www.bestservice.com/en/superior_drummer_3.html

  37. It takes work to understand REAPER, but I ask: what useful enterprise does not require work? To comprehend REAPER one must understand that a track may be anything you can wish or imagine. An audio track, a MIDI track, a video track, a bus, a send, a submix, an aux track, a warm Summer afternoon, the memory of a lover's kiss, the idea of true brotherhood, or even the idea of ideas themselves. A track may contain matter in all of its states, gas, liquid or solid (plasma support is expected before the next dot release). It may contain light, sound, vibrations of all frequencies. Infrared! Ultraviolet! A track may be routed to a bus, or another track, a bus routed to a track, another bus, and any of them may be routed directly to the user's soul, and to the collective soul of all living creatures. REAPER is the yin, the yang, the alpha and the omega. It is the first DAW you should try and the last you'll ever need. REAPER! REAPER! REAPER.

  39. Why did the musician get locked out of their own gig? Because they had too many bars and couldn’t find the right key! I tried writing songs about the electrical grid, but I couldn’t generate any current hits. Guess I'm just not well-grounded in the genre. Ever heard about the Motown band that also worked in IT? They were called The Temptations to Hit 'Refresh'. Their top track? "My CTRL".

  42. Thanks Grem. 🙏 My wife thinks we can pull it off sooner but I don't think so. We travel in April, then I'm gone 10 days in May and then we both travel for a week again in July. Plus we have to pack the house we've been in for 25 years AND get all the water damage repaired and prep this house for sale. I'm freaking out a little to be honest. I feel like August is more comfortable but we need to sit down and draw out a timeline. When we got back we just wanted to decompress for a few days as the weight of it all was kinda crushing me. lol Here are some pics for the future studio. The bookshelf will come out but I'll probably leave the built-ins at the end. I probably will move them to do a double-wall construction with thicker doors but the room is a peninsula - only the wall with the door is shared with the rest of the house so I am hoping containment will be easier to manage with that. Acoustic treatment could be a challenge with all those windows (I wish I had a pick in the daylight - the scenery outside is beautiful and they tell me deer come up to the window). I intend to hire a professional studio designer to help with it all. 1

  43. If your friend's guitar plays more easily then you need to get a setup. You'll be amazed how much difference a properly cut nut and bridge can make to your playing and also the intonation. Shouldn't cost much. There are literally hundreds of YT vids showing how to do it. Back to the barred chords. On an acoustic? Occasionally a Bm. Otherwise use your thumb! Start with that C chord, using 4 fingers (string - fret - finger:) 2-1-1 , 4-2-2 , 5-3-4 , 6-3-3 Alright! Play that for a bit. Now, keep your 1st finger where it is, and move the other 3 - in that exact same shape - to the 3 strings directly below where they now are. And stick your thumb on the first fret of the low e-string. Ta-da! An F. You can use that shape all up the neck and you'll never need a bar chord again. Just like Jimi Hendrix 😉

  44. Well, at least if Samplitude users get orphaned, they can always come over to Sonar. Back during the Gibson Troubles, I bought Samplitude and used it for 2 months as a potential Plan B should Sonar unexpectedly come to some horrible end. Of all the DAWs I experimented with during that time, I liked Samplitude best. Mainly because it was the most like Sonar. But their insistence on re-installing that bogus ASIO driver with every update put me off and I said "fudge it, I'll keep using Sonar until it stops working". A couple weeks later the BandLab deal was announced.

  45. A decent guitar set-up is essential. If you don't understand the mechanics enough to attempt a good set-up yourself, It might be worth having a local tech have a look at it.I can tell you that it's a pretty rare occurrence that you can't make significant improvement.

  46. This is sort of subjective, but may have impact as you go up the neck with barre chords because it can throw intonation off (and become significantly harder to fret the barre). You also want to use the side of your index finger rather than face, because it is more bony and will fret the barre better. The basic barre chords are pretty simple. E/Em is the open chord using all 6 strings, and A/Am is the open chord using only the top 5 strings. If you barre where the nut is, you can transpose that up the fret board by shifting the root (where your "cheat F" came from). Power chords just use the bottom three strings from either (same fingering) and get used a lot in music, more specifically because they only contain the root, 5th, and octave (no 3rd), so they have no innate major/minor character and can be placed on top of anything. Back to the first part... if the neck has any bowing, the pressure required to barre a chord may increase a lot as you move up the neck. For Em, you can also wrap your middle finger over your index to get more force. Depending how hard it frets, you can also consider power chord for some things and use a barre chord based on D to do the upper strings as needed. Also, if you are focused specifically on the E barre chord (all 6 strings), you can alternatively tune the guitar to E (or Em even) at the nut to allow you to reinforce your index finger by wrapping your middle finger over it. Em would allow for using the barre more simply (as your ring finger can make it major), but for some songs, guitars have been tuned to E (which makes all the harmonics also in key), just beware to use a lighter string gauge if you do that since you will add more tension to the neck. She Talks to Angels is a good example of a guitar tuned to E (and use of the harmonics for the piece).
