  2. In 1975 I was 14 and happened to catch this weird UK band on In Concert. The guitar player was made up like a mime, the singer was 40 if he was a day, wore jeans and a striped t-shirt under a pirate coat with tails, and prowled around the stage like he was James Dean or Humphrey Bogart. Blew my little teeny bopper mind. People from across the pond will know right away I'm taking about The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, and they came to mind as of late. It's who I got into when the rest of my class were into KISS: I bought the live album that had just come out. They were, among other things, an instruction in how lyrics don't have to make a damn bit of sense as long as you deliver them with emotion. That thing that he and the bass player and guitarist do where they all put one foot on the monitors and lean forward, I was later slayed by Johnny and Dee Dee Ramone doing that in sync, as their entire stage schtick.

  3. <shrug> generally, people on here don't like resurrecting ancient posts whose content may not be applicable any more And I'm not prepared to wade through pages of dated information to see if any of it is still valid or not.

  4. I have AD2, EZD2 and EZD3. I think they’re all great. The fact that AD2 hasn’t been updated in the last years is to me of less importance; the 21 drums kits, 14 additional kit pieces and 32 MIDI packs available should cover most genres. As for MIDI packs, if you indeed want more MIDI in AD2, you can always buy MIDI packs from Toontrack and use them with AD2. To do that, in the AD2 Hamburger menu, just change the default mapping to EZD by selecting Map Window > Map Preset > Other Plugins > TT – EZ. You don't even have to go through your DAW; just drag the MIDI from EZD right into the BEATS tab in AD2. And hey presto. Of course, for this to work you'd also need EZD installed.

  5. It was at a Guitar Center demonstration that I first saw Cakewalk v1.0 waaaaaaay back in the mid-1980's!

  6. Yeh, they used to do that. I attended a session at Guitar Center in Seattle, c. 2005/2006. It was pretty good. GC supplied the venue and sold a bunch of stuff as a result. I distinctly remember seeing one of the attendees afterward holding a pair of brand-new Yamaha monitors under his arms, being picked up by his wife at the curb, grinning from ear to ear. I remember wondering if his wife was going to be as enthusiastic as he was, and thinking "good for you, stranger - I hope you put your foot down and let her know that your happiness counts for something, too".

  7. Hey all you Cakewalkers . . . here's another collaboration I've done with Mark Alan Skinner. I had this strumming acoustic guitar piece in my studio for a while , and just couldn't take it much further. Was trying to record a sampled mandolin part, which wasn't working right . . . so I sent a mix to Mark, who can actually play a mandolin ! Well, a few weeks go by and Mark recorded an acoustic guitar, a mandolin, and an upright bass . . . yeah, that's me singing and strum whacking acoustic guitar in the background. What can I say, the piece was transformed. Let us know what you think, and how the mix translates . . .

  8. Minor annoyance but I hope it will change in new Sonar... Whenever you change the Plug-in Layout view, it's almost always because you are looking for an FX (or Instrument) to insert, so the menu should not disappear, forcing you to open it again. Example: In screenshot below, I want to find an FX to insert, but want to change the view from the current "Sort by Category" to, say, "Sort by Manufacturer", so I can continue my search. But when I make my selection, the menu disappears! Now I have to click the + sign to add an effect, etc. to get back to the same menu. Very counterintuitive and a waste of mouse clicks.

  9. Nice little jam. I was going for a more mellow vibe with a clear melody (I tend to get a bit muddy sometimes). But suddenly the Edge started to do what it does very well, a bit of industrial beats. So I went with it and made it a section in the track. Fun fact / happy accident: the high drone sound from 2:10 all the way through 5:10 is the MS20 which kept sustaining the note. It wasn't planned but the patch turned out that way and I decided to keep it in. That's the fun of hardware!

  10. "I was wrong; it's actually badass." 'nuf said. My only complaint is that watchers might be more convinced of its badassness if he showed something like the Gloss EQ flyout instead of Sonitus compressor and the Step Sequencer instead of Step Recorder.

  12. OK I was game. So last night I set up my retired Office computer which has been sitting since November. It has the last release of Cakewalk installed from October. It also has a Backup of the Download folder from November 2022 full of Cakewalk installers. There was also a few installers still in the regular Download folder. I didn't plug in the LAN cable so it is offline. I fired up Cakewalk and got the offending splash screen. You can see it says no internet and is counting down. But it opened as expected. Ok so lets try this revert to older version that a few are claiming will work. Here's the first attempt ( we are still off line remember) this is the message I got when I tried any of the bottom 3 installers. This is the message I got when I tried the top few. I searched the computer which has had Cakewalk installed since 2018 and found a few older installers. I found one that worked but only got so far- I got this screen another dead end. So I fished around for the LAN cable and plugged it in and tried again, Now I get this message. Then I got this screen--- read what it say's-- " This Wizard will download and install the latest version of Cakewalk" No option to not let it do this. So I am finding it hard to believe this Myth that you can install and activate older versions. I had at least 10 ranging over the last 5-6 years and none of them work. On line or Off line. My conclusion is if you are off line the installer stops working at a certain point. If you are on line it will install the newest version. I even tried totally uninstalling Cakewalk and starting over , both off line and on line. I followed the link Mr Mirando posted to the product release page but there is no installers posted there. Just the rollback, and when you try and use a rollback you get the same error messages as above. Another dead end. Please advise of your steps you took to re install older versions.

  14. Wallet Blues by Kluane Gross Jan 25 2024- https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=14719703 My Grandson took up songwriting and is learning the acoustic guitar. His dad just past away a few weeks ago and we put this song together so he could play it for him as he was slipping away from us. Not exactly what you might think as appropriate, but if you knew his Dad Jason you would get it. A guy who's favorite Christmas song was Grandma Got run over by a Reindeer. Well they played lots of his favorite music that day, The Band, Allmand Brothers and the Dead. Jason was a musician himself and was a walking encyclopedia of all things connected to those bands. He only liked Country if it used a Les Paul and was corny. So Kluane had no idea yet about putting chords to a song and I just came up with the progression and we had something that worked within a half hour. I wanted the chords to be easy for him to play. So it's in C. The next day I came up with the Band in a Box idea to see what I could come up with for the style and groove. I also thought it would be a good tool for him to use is he progresses. He picked this one and I quickly figured out how to enter the chords and create an arrangement. Of course it sort of sucked so I exported as a midi file into Cakewalk and proceeded to obliterate all but the drums and there was a guitar chord track assigned to the Lounge Lizard with the Phaser turned on. But the style he picked didn't have a Pedal Steel which this song was crying out for. SO I simple went back and changed the style to one that had the pedal steel and actually learned I could drag and drop it from BiaB directly to Cakewalk. I edited the bad chords in Melodyne, thank goodness I just upgraded to the full version which does chords. I redid the bass with a real bass that I converted to midi and the Ample bass, I added a piano and then a acoustic guitar and the Tele lead. I haven't polished the vocals at all yet so I apologize for the performance and lack of clarity of the lyrics. We had 1 day to get it posted. Here's a screen shot of the console. As I did this I was thinking it would be cool if everyone shared this shot when posting a song. I might even help troubleshoot issues with mixes.

  16. @Colin Nicholls As a personal choice I don’t answer high jack questions on old threads. Apparently there’s a majority of regulars that agree with this practice. The main reason is people are not aware they are reading an old post so it’s a huge time waster. And what if the high jacker starts getting answers and questions and so on? The thread becomes very confusing because nobody knows who is talking to who. High jacking is frowned upon in all user forums for good reasons. And most times the high jacker never returns anyhow. We welcome Mr Andreas to the forum and I'm sure all will be more than happy to help if they start their own thread.

  17. I am afraid that this situation with taking so long to release the new Sonar along with the pop up screen is starting to leave a bad taste in our mouths towards an otherwise wonderful relationship with CbB!!! Glad you got sorted out with the wifi on your phone. I am in an area in Macon, Ga. where there is only one internet company available in our neighborhood and they ruined the 10 year relationship we had with them. Long story!! Anyway, we have been on cellphone hotspot for about 5 years. Slow but solid for huge files. PLEASE, CBB!!! Stop shooting yourself in the foot and give us some definitive info on Sonars progress AND GET RID OF THIS GOD AWFUL POPUP!!!!! With all due respect and affection!!!

  19. Yeah, I asked them about that because it's really annoying. Especially since the Plugin Boutique installer can't be hidden automatically in the background, keeps logging you out, and requires a captcha to get back into it. Since it's a purchased plugin (not a subscription), I didn't like that it had to be activated through PIB constantly to work. They sent me a file that doesn't need their authorizer to run. I don't think I'm the only one with that issue because I noticed that they recently updated the product page to address it and they say they're working on a new solution (or something like that).

  28. Seeing as how I had fired up the old computer I started looking to see if anything important should be copied from it for future. I found it had a 4th drive that was not connected so in that I found this. I'm on line now and the latest version is still installed and activated. I'm also logged into Bandlab. So the install ran normally and odd thing was the release notes opened and they are for the latest version. I will post that because this contains what we were told about offline activations as well as that older version cannot be activated. So I opened Cakewalk and got the warning about activation as well as proof that I had actually finally succeeded in installing an older version. But this is once again a dead end because it will not activate. I am totally logged into this forum and to Bandlab. I even opened Google password manager to double check my user name and password all attempts to use those failed. So more proof that the developers are not lying to us and older versions are now history. So if you are going to spread misinformation please supply proof !

  40. Actually, let me rephrase. There are expensive suites out there like Helix Native, or the Neural DSP stuff, S-Gear, ML Sound Lab, ToneX for example. They are 30-40+ times the price of Audio Assault on sale. Are they 40x better? Of course not. AA amps are absolutely usable but just not at the level of the others I just mentioned. So you might think "well of course they're not as good, they're much cheaper," but my response would be if you're only paying $5-10 for an amp sim then is it worth spending any money at all? With the likes of NAM, Amped Roots Free, AmpliTube CS, ToneX CS, Tonocracy, Emissary Ignite and a few others available, my thinking is it's not worth spending money unless you're looking for something really high quality (the sellers in the first paragraph) or if you're looking for a very specific sound in which case Audio Assault is worth a look. Still, none of that has stopped me from saying "Installed!" in the past 😁

  44. My favourite is Windows/ PrntScn. To take a screenshot of both monitors and it goes directly to a folder in Pictures. Then there’s a lot you can do to it with the Windows picture app. Before all this taking a screenshot and editing required a lot more moves and using various other apps. It’s like using printer/scanners now you just tell Windows to add it to the list and it works. No more installing a printer software and a bunch of useless bloatware.

  46. I’ve had Dim Pro since Sonar 8.5 but I will now install it from CCC with no issues. I definitely depend on it for the acoustic bass which is on 60 or so of my backing tracks for our Folk/Bluegrass band. It is also in many of my original songs. I also use Dim pro for all sorts of different sounds either it or xpand2. I really don’t bother looking anywhere else than those 2.
