Personally, I'm pretty excited about AI. IMHO It's here to stay so we may as well start making our peace with it. In terms of its application in music I have some plugins that already use a form of AI. When I use them I find they sometimes make suggestions that are fairly strange and not at all useful, but I also find there are times they make better moves than I would have (which, given my skill level, isn't hard to do) and really improve things. As this stage in the game I'm seeing AI plugins/DAWS/composition software etc. as offering a starting place and I can either take its suggestions or not. For me, it's just another tool that sometimes does better than I could and sometimes doesn't. I'm waiting to see what's next.3 points

Early Autumn — Jazz standard by Ralph Burns and Woody Herman with lyrics by Johnny Mercer. There are quite a few nice versions out there, but Stan Getz is one of my all-time favorite tenor sax players.3 points

Stop using Edge! As in now! In fact, you might even find and install some software called EdgeBlock. Then use Brave with Adblock Plus. Edge sends all your information to Microsoft, Chrome sends it to Google. Brave doesn't send it anywhere.3 points

Tested a new plugin Stutter Edit 2. Supposed to give cool effect on various synths. Got tired of ping pong ball sound and just kept the flanger. And the tune turn perhaps to funk/fusion style except for the middle part. https://soundcloud.com/mikael-schulin/stutter?si=8d60fb3630dd468a8fd5dbe6c100d2f4&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing2 points

Quoting myself here, I have to retract this statement. As I posted on the Pianoteq forum, it seems the difference I was hearing and measuring was mostly due to FX in CbB differentially reinforcing the more prominent low-mid frequencies in the new voicing. In other words, my FX settings were already modifying the tone in same direction as the re-voicing.2 points

I've never had to "reactivate" any of my NI instruments in 7+ years, so you have something funky in your system. There are two important services (whose names escape me ATM... both start with NI though) that should be running all the time or things will go sideways really fast. If I find time I'll return to post them here. I also spent some time as an adjunct product advisor for NI over the last couple of years and foresaw most of the ridiculous marketing moves that were coming down the pipeline, so I've decided to stop at Komplete 13CE. A brief perusal of the NI forum shows me that was a brilliant decision, cuz they're gonna be fixing stuff they broke for the next couple years. When I need new instruments lately, I don't get them from NI.2 points

I remember seeing Metallica, Metal Church and Sword (Canadian band) for $11 in 1986. Got the t-shirt for $25, and a burger, cola and fries for dinner at A&W for probably $6 or $7. That was on the Master of Puppets tour, so they weren't that big yet, but still... Bigger bands that I liked with more extravagant productions like Iron Maiden charged $15 - $18. Even if you were a kid working a minimum wage part-time job on weekends, attending shows was possible. Personally I can't imagine spending more than $50 to see a band. I think that was roughly the price to see Accept at Vamp'd here in Vegas, the last show I considered attending, early last year. It's a small venue, with a capacity of 280, and I've played there a few of times myself. I would have enjoyed that kind of intimate show a whole lot more than a big arena rock show. John 5 is playing there in a few weeks. $25 on pre-sale, $30 at the door. Paying hundreds of dollars to watch displays behind the stage because you're too far to see anything makes no sense to me. If I'm to stare at a screen, I'd rather buy the blu-ray. But that's just me.2 points

Bapu, not sure if this applies to your situation, but if the videos are on YouTube, you might want to bite the bullet and subscribe to YouTube Premium ($140/year). I hate subscriptions, but watch a lot of tutorial videos, etc. on YouTube and the cost is worth it for me. YMMV.2 points

The brittle sound of piezos is an issue. You should be able to EQ it. There have been a few threads on people using IRs of acoustic guitars; you might find some IRs for violins.2 points

My main New Year's Resolution was to leave Facebook. I realized I'd been on it for 15 years now and haven't really done much with my life since. I've also been in a terrible music-making rut/block. Lo and behold, I've been firing up CbB A LOT this month...I recently finished this remix of Laufey's "From The Start" - I was somehow inspired to make a drum n bass remix of her bossa nova/pop song: laufey - from the start [e:trinity drum n bossa remix] NOTE: Headphones or a good monitoring system (preferably with subwoofer) highly recommended.1 point

https://www.decentsamples.com/product/decent-sampler-plugin/ Decent Samples has updated the free Decent Sampler to v1.9.15 for macOS, Windows and Linux and to v1.9.14 for iOS. Changes from the last few versions: 1.9.15: Fixed a bug having to do with velocity-based filter bindings. 1.9.13: Added internal support for a one-pole low pass filter. Samplists, this is useful for simulating extra velocity layers. 1.9.11: Adds internal support for a notch and peak EQ effects. 1.9.10: Fixed a bug that was causing the sampler to intermittently crash on presets that make use of tags within bindings (Motorlab, for example).1 point

Well, I'm apparently not that HUGE of a fan. lol I guess I have all the music they officially released, and then some. But I've learned pretty much all those songs on the guitar. That's when I started moving away form playing only root/5ths heavy metal sort of things and learned chords and stuff. I remember using this book which had über simplified arrangements for the guitar as a starting point. As simple as it was, it helped me understand how music works a little better, and that was good place to start from. Of course, I eventually learned to play those songs properly.1 point

That was a very interesting video. I watched it as soon as it was posted. If it's all true it explains a lot of things. The musical middle class has been eliminated. You've got people scrabbling around trying to get gigs, but in my town most of the venues have closed down. The concept of bands seems pretty much dead and replaced by various solo artists. Those that do rise to the top are doing big arena tours and many of those have just become their own tribute bands. Madonna is coming to Toronto this year . The cheapest seat at the venue is $200 and they range up to $7,500 for the best seats. Taylor Swift is another one. She actually affects the economy of towns she plays in. For example, she's coming to Vancouver this year. There's a hotel close to the venue that usually charges around $150 a night for the basic budget room. To get a room when she's in town they're charging $3,500 a night. I can remember being able to see the biggest acts, buy a T-shirt and have dinner for $100 and have change in my pocket.1 point
