  1. During the holidays, Epic Games gives away one free game every day, amounting to a total of 17 games. Each game is available for free for a limited period of 24 hours. The thirteenth one is Ghostrunner. "Ghostrunner offers a unique single-player experience: fast-paced, violent combat, and an original setting that blends science fiction with post-apocalyptic themes. It tells the story of a world that has already ended and its inhabitants who fight to survive." https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/ghostrunner Gameplay video:

  2. Learned the ropes at kvr, gearslutz and vicontrol but the cakies forum sure has the good vibe for over ten years, with oldies but goodies like @cclarry, @BassDaddy, @Bapu, @lawajava, @Grem, @Zo, @mettelus, @John Maar,@DeeringAmps, @TheSteven, @Zargg, and the dear ones I’m forgetting right now. Meanwhile, some fine newcomers have joined the band. Happy 2024, guyz.

  3. Bell and Bone is a free jazz trumpet and trombone library from Librewave. This seems to be another quality sample library that works in the free Rhapsody player from a talented sample developer that I've been a customer of for a few years. He has a background of making sample libraries for a number of well known KONTAKT developers and, while I haven't downloaded, installed and used it yet, based on the below video, my past experience with the developer and Guy Michelmore's praise, this is quite a nice library that the developer's giving away free in an effort to bring his business and his sample player greater awareness. This is a YouTuber's walkthrough/review of the free library: https://librewave.com/product/bell-and-bone/

  6. Also for $74 you can get two Spitfire libraries over at uaudio.com They have the Spitfire Chamber Strings, Symphonic Woodwinds and Symphonic Brass on offer. All are Luna only (Mac) though. But for about $37 each that's a steal for Mac/Luna users. How: Choose the Custom 2 pack for $99 and use the $25 off code GIFT25. Note: Also, I was able to buy Antares Auto-Tune Realtime Advanced Plug-In for UAD-2 as part of the two pack with my GIFT25 code just fine on my initial purchase and then immediately received another specific gift code for an additional $25 off on my next purchase. Other notables: Neve Summing (Luna extension only) Sonnox stuff C-Suite stuff Tube -Tech collection

Kind of music related in a sense without being directly music (if that makes sense). One has to sign up for the site, and that is free too, to get the free bundles which is offered regularly.

  14. https://viatordsp.gumroad.com/l/ihpwx https://viatordsp.gumroad.com/l/zxdeus Viator DSP have released Duplex Comp, available in 2 versions (full and free), the full version available for $19.99. Duplex Comp combines two serially cascading compressors, followed by a limiter, into one efficient package. This plugin streamlines a popular mixing method—employing multiple compressors in series, each with different settings—by consolidating the entire process into one convenient interface. Duplex Comp is available to PC and Mac users (VST3 and AU).

  15. Yep. I recognize the cclarry name for a long time now too. I was on KVR probably around 2000 as a lurker for years. Was into audiosoft since about '97. Time is flying. Plan to hang out here nowadays. Never got into gearslutz other than reading gear reviews occassionally. vicontrol I just found 6 months ago. Didn't realize it existed.

  20. I am going to go out on a limb here and speculate that Cakewalk by Bandlab 2023.09 Build 75 will stop working sometime between 6 months and 2 years after the release of Sonar (which itself is unknown). As to the definitive and precise date - I don’t think even the bakers themselves know that one yet.

  22. IK Multimedia make excellent software products. They don't force any of us to buy what they have to offer, they constantly run promotions with insane discounts, they give users/buyers JamPoints for further discounts, which can be used towards hardware products. Sometimes they also offer free shipping. And last, but not least - they constantly work on creating new great products and improving the existing ones. Their business model might not please everyone, but as long as it works for them and enables them to deliver goodies - I'm going to support them with my money.

  24. @JoeGBradford I quickly came up with some of my favorite freebies for KONTAKT full version: 8Dio 1928 Steinway Grand and a number of other high quality libraries for KONTAKT for free https://8dio.com/collections/free-instruments Lofi Wurli There's a bit of noise if you hold the samples, but otherwise, this is really nice for a free Wurl library. https://drive.google.com/file/d/15U99DL5BJdPAwj3SDOYvI2EPJ1_eaL8K/edit Red Pack Drums - acoustic drum kit https://www.redpackdrums.com/product-page/the-official-ds-drum-library Prepatato Piano Free An awesome free version of a prepared piano library. It's good enough to have charged for. There's a glockenspiel, I believe named Jonathan's Glockenspiel that's quite nice. Pianobook See my list for recommendations, because a lot of stuff is poor quality. You can use my list to find the best libraries there, and you can also look for high-rated instruments at the site, of course. The Quarantine and Isolation pianos are two that immediately come to mind as some of the best there. Pick up everything from Dan Keen (he does mainly string and piano libraries, and they're very, very good). https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/topic/65790-best-free-sample-libraries-for-kontakt-a-curated-list-of-recommended-libraries/

  31. @steve@baselines.com , Thanks for the listen and responding. I know you are a pro at doing covers of great songs. @Ross Smithe, Appreciate the comment , this one was pretty easy to own. My guitars were tuned down a full step and the "Ain't No Sunshine" parts fit in comfortably. @Lynn Wilson , No credence for blasphemy here. I like it better also. @Sal Sorice Thanks for the compliment. It actually "does" take a while to get good results mixing your own work. If I go back to some older mixes I've done , I don't really understand "what in the world" I was thinking .. This forum has been a Big help. Hang in there. @Makke I appreciate it. I Really liked your last production as well. @garybrun , You know I Always value your opinions , and have learned a Lot from you. Thanks for the past help you've given me. Still have a "Gary Brun Masters" folder on my desktop. Thanks for all the plays and input .. mark

  32. Dear FORUM friends. We ended the year 2023 without the long-awaited BETA version of the new, brand-new SONAR, with the correction of thousands of bugs or non-bugs as many friends here reiterate, and countless other innovations having been made available. During this period there were many good approaches, others not so much and many even inelegant, bordering on bad manners. At the end of this year, I call on all of us, users of the tool, to be more united in helping each other so that the tool reaches a satisfactory point of evolution. Until then, I continue to use the current version for what suits me and, of course, I started using REAPER in its latest version, which is very consistent and full of features that I was unaware of and are fully serving me. I wish you all a great 2024.

I tried and tried to get a sale through but eventually gave up as folk were getting annoyed at me for not joining in the party.

  39. airplane mode is your friend. it will eliminate the wired network, wifi, and bluetooth connections which are often the main instigators of interrupts causing glitches. i'm currently running an HP Voctus laptop w/ W11 home, and honestly, i had pulled out all by "DAW strip-it " scripts to do what i have done in the past, but i ran a bunch of projects that normally would have problems, and nada. they just worked. so i just shutoff some the spyware type "services" and set my A/V exclusions, and most times don't even bother with the airplane mode except if i'm using some plugins which seem to be hogs and thereby are impacted by the networking.

  40. I used to be a regular at KVR (under the user name of eDrummist, which I still use when I'm occasionally there) and befriended a bunch of folks in real life from KVR that I've visited on three continents (okay, I live on one of those continents). But it's probably been a decade since I spent much time there. KVR, of course, is a pretty big community and can get toxic from time to time (not VI-Control level toxic, but bad enough that I prefer somewhere friendlier) and I simply find that not to my liking. While no forum is perfect, I think this one, overall, is excellent and I attribute that to a combination of a great community and the standards and moderation of the forum. Also, we have cclarry, which is nice. Please, stick around! - Peter

  48. The reason i'm negative to win 10 is multitude. Expand your thinking. With CakewalkbyBandlab, which i like. is this movement towards an extremely small niche for a daw. A daw that is to be not solely windows only, but windows with the version 10 only. PS. To give back something positive i propose to the developers: Fork the software. Release todays version of CbB as free software. Remove the update and authentication from it and give it a slightly other name. Copy Reapers way with a notification in the center when started. But have it to be manually exited so people can take their own time to read it carefully. The notification should state that it is released as is and are never going to be updated or supported. If they want updates and support they have to use CbB instead. In that way you can continue to develop CbB as usual and still have win 7 and 8.1 users contribute to the community. PPS. Music hardware seems to be of good quality. Folks take them out from their storage and fire them up without a problem 30 years later. People like that nowadays, reuse things and not throwing them away. But you need the old software to still be around to be able to use lot of the old hardware.
