Actually I want to give a shout out to all of the other mods! I hopped on board a couple of weeks back when we got absolutely belted so I could help clean up (being in a different time zone to most/all of the other mods is a handy thing!) and it was pretty bad. But then I had a look through the past reports and clean-up history and man... there was so much stuff we never saw as users! It was all nuked before it became a problem, and it was substantial. So LOTS of respect from this new guy! But yes, the first thing I said when I hopped on board is "what tools are on the backend to sort this out?" and there definitely was a lot of good stuff in place - it'd be many magnitudes worse if this stuff wasn't there - but I'm hoping the updated framework that's just being rolled out will help even more. I had a good look over the forum provider's docs and this new version looks pretty great. Also, big cheers to you guys for reporting this stuff too! We don't always see stuff, so the more of us keeping an eye on anyone crapping in our backyard, the better!

Confirmed here. Intended or not, I never noticed this before because I always select the input source BEFORE arming the track, which seems to override the aforementioned behavior. I'm not a fan of "automatic selection" from any source.

I have the 8Dio version, but considering how easy and fun it is to layer samples and create programs in SoundPaint, I think I'm going to delete my 8Dio version and stick with the SoundPaint version. After I spend some time with it, assuming it's relatively the same as the KONTAKT version, I'll add it to my curated list of freebies.

Read this before posting here for assistance when Cakewalk crashes. It might save you and the people trying to assist you some time. However, the troubleshooting method proposed seems hard to implement, for me at least. I have a couple of thousand plugins and plucking (then replacing) half of the 10-20 I'm using in a project from their folders in the plugin 10 +/- Plugin folders can take a while. Maybe renaming them by adding character to the .dll or .vst3 suffix (.dllx or .vst3x) might work and be easier.

I received a 250$ discount code to upgrade from Horizon bundle to Mercury. My upgrade price for a long time is around 400$, and that would bring the upgrade price to 150$. I never got a quote that low over the years. I know Waves WUP and pricing is controversial, but with this price, I would get many plugins missing and upgrade almost everything from them from version 9 to 13 to the current version without the hassle of many installers, so I’ll probably get it. And I’m on Windows so never any problems with OS upgrades over the years. Check your emails for similar offers for those not on Mercury.

Stay away from any 32 bit stuff, hobbyist plugins unless they have a following* and abandonware and you will avoid many issues. * Full Bucket makes some awesome instruments (mostly Korg emulations) that surpass some paid stuff. There are two threads elsewhere filled with good stuff.

If you go into Views > Meter/Key, what do you see? It's possible that there was a time signature baked into your default template that has 4/4 already in there (worth checking that in a new project made from that template). Possibly something to do with Ripple Edit being on and things shifted along?

Disabling the Nvidia audio driver in manage sound devices completely shuts it off and there’s no need to do anything else. But the above mentioned Experience app definitely need nuking

Yep! The best option would be to disable it, otherwise windows will just reinstall the regkey to it. Mine is permanently disbaled instead of deleting the Hotkey.

There is a good chance drivers like these will reinstall with updates or re-activate themselves if the driver is still present (what is happening to you). Another approach in Windows is to open "Sound Settings->Sound Control Panel (upper right)" then disable any drivers you do not want Windows to use (you can view the disabled ones by right-clicking in that window and "Show Disabled Devices" if you want to toggle them from there as well). As long as they are disabled in that window, Windows will never expose them to any programs (regardless of them being installed), which is what you are really after. Cakewalk relies on Windows telling it what is available and this will stop that for you.

One small thing to keep in mind for anyone considering is that with Waves' recent debacle, it's probably no longer safe to say that in the coming years WUP will max at $240 per year and even that you'll be able to WUP if they try another switch to subscription only. It's really hard to trust them with anything after that.

If the entry for the RealTek ASIO driver is not found in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ASIO the DAW will be completely unaware the driver exists. I have one RME Babyface Pro attached to my PC, the registry looks like this notice there is no entry for any other audio device. The only way CbB knows about ASIO drivers is by checking this registry area

The UI is being updated to use vector graphics so it can be scalable and DPI aware. The button icons will likely be updated but will all be in the same place as before, so there should be zero changes to your workflow.

It is possible. Unlike sample rate, there is no restriction on having clips of different bit depths in a project.

I would stay away from gimmicks like the light up keys because they can easily become crutches that actually end up being an impediment to learning. Also, if piano is what you want to learn, be sure to get something with weighted piano action keys. The playing experience is very different.

As for WUP, good advice mentioned above, but I want to say that the plugins received this year have been more than worth it, I might go back and count them up, but it has been a good number of plugins, and useful good quality stuff as well.
