  2. Sure, you can do a lot of this in a DAW with some effort. But here are a few of the reasons that I like Unify... A big # 1 is that Unify assigns each instrument to a separate CPU core/thread for performance optimization. Hides the interface for instruments that you don't care to look at. Here's looking at you Spitfire! Provides a preset browser via Unify patches for plugins that don't have modern browsing or search abilities. Also has a "favorites" tagging system. Ability to search across all owned plugin libraries for presets that have been "Unified". Can't do this with a DAW. Since Unify is also a plugin, you can use any Unify preset in any DAW. A Unify preset is portable, so setup once and use it on any computer with Unify (and the respective instrument plugins) installed, even if it is running a different DAW! Extensive macro knob control (4 banks x8) of plugin automation parameters on any layer. Great if you are playing the instrument in real-time. You can MIDI learn the macro knobs by CC to any controls on your controller. Keyboard splits and layers are a breeze to setup. The ability to quickly find and stack sounds from different synths together. Happy accidents! Lots of MIDI FX to work with on MIDI layers. I currently have 21,577 Unify patches to work with...

  3. A few thoughts: 1) If there is a program with an interface you don't like, Unify may be able to fix it. A little work there and it is easy to use. Any many programs come pre-Unified. For example, I really don't like the new Spitfire interface. It stopped me from buying anything from them. I didn't even download the free LABS instruments. But after playing a few with Unify, I downloaded all of them. I haven't tried to use it for my Tarilonte-engine stuff, but I'm sure it would work. Make a bunch of presets for the patches you like--which should take fifteen minutes, and you'll never be cursing Engine again. 2) If you have a program like Falcon that is single thread, it is going to totally poop out your computer when you try to layer the sounds. Take two or threpresets from any of the Falcon presets or expansions and put them together and wham! It can crash with as little as that. Because a lot of the presets they sell are loaded up with a ton of stuff inside. Load as many Falcon Patches into the multi-threaded Unify and use the full power of your computer. It's been able to handle everything I've thrown at it. And you can save the whole thing as a preset. And you can make new knobs that can move a lot of the other knobs at once. 3) Hooking up MIDI programs that drive VSTs from another trackcan be a little tricky in DAWs. You have to put the MIDI device in the right place and have it drive the other, etc. And sometimes I have to remember how to do it. It's a breeze to do in Unify. Once you've done it and saved a preset, you can call it up any time and change the instrument you want to control. 4) what if you want to try out a new VST, but don't want to have Unify scan all your VSTs? Just drag the .dll in and you're good to go. I usually go there if I quickly want to try something out. While you're checking out a new VST put in a tag like "piano" or "guitar" etc, save it and then you can find all your pianos with a quick search. There's a lot more stuff it can do. The biggest problem is you have to take the time to learn how. The UI is not the greatest. But i do think the sounds are worth more than $47.50. It's not much more than the price of some expansions, and less than many. Lehmkuhl is a giant as a sound designer.

  6. At first I thought it might be nice to have a substitution table that allowed for user control of which manufacturers and which specific products would be automatically substituted when new versions came out, but I agree it would be a nightmare to implement. Plus, I can imagine some people forgetting they set up customized substitution tables, coming into chat, and in frustration rudely bad-mouthing good old Cakewalk because their projects no longer worked as they did before. 🤪 Conclusion: Best to let the users take responsibility!!! Just say no to Automatic Automatized Intelligence. 😉

  9. From that link: "The BBC Symphony Orchestra plugin by Spitfire Audio is a wonderful entire orchestra in a single plug-in. Given the patience to sequence out multiple tracks, it is a very convincing sounding! BUT….. What if you would like to play it LIVE? All 5 String Sections, all 5 Woodwind sections AND all 5 Brass Sections, on the keyboard, ready to knock your socks off? There is only 1 way to pull this off and then change to another of over 180 variations/combinations of these instruments = In Unify! And this is just the beginning!"

  10. Ok...so, after trying to register the serial # for a third time I got the same message Serial # registered successfully...but STILL didn't show up as a "new" product or under "Cinesamples", under "Vendors", OR under "Kontakt", so I hit the "refresh" Button and TA-DA....it showed up. This is just FYI in case this happens to you!

  11. As a Bitwig and Unify owner one thing I think Unify can do that would be difficult in Bitwig (maybe) is easy conversion of mono instrument VSTs into Poly ones using I think midibox plugin inside of Unify Ive used it to create poly versions of Monark etc

  12. Personal, important, certainly, all the manifestations brought up to now, but, when I created the post of suggestion of implementation, I didn't think to enter in controversies, nor debates on political/social/idealist issues. I thought precisely of bringing up the possibility of inserting AI-based tools that allow the execution of different tasks. I think that, if we enter into this approach, we would have to critically focus on the first ones who recorded messages on stones, those who recorded them on k7 tapes, etc. Today we have several features that implement AI rudiments such as hotkeys, cal scripts, keyboard macros applications. It was with this approach that I inserted the suggestion.

  19. Thank you! I sincerely appreciate. I know it can make some people uncomfortable too, and I usually try to be mindful, but that's just the way I grew up. I'm actually working on a book about it because people have been encouraging me to do so for years - apparently, it can help them process things and find perspective on thir own mortality. So if it can at least be useful for that - if I manage to finish it, anyway. But thank, really.

  29. So you might have seen my recent post about an old music folder I found in my attic, dating back to circa 1980. Well, this is the first track to emerge from what has become known as The Lost Attic Tapes project. This particular song has an interesting back story, I actually wrote it on guitar as an entry for a local (and I mean local) song competition – I’d have been about 17 or 18 I guess at the time (so you’ll forgive the lyrical naivety I hope). We had to submit a recorded take (on TDK's finest quality cassette tape) as well as lyrics and music, so I had a piano arrangement written by a local semi-pro musician who was a mate of a mate. The bass player from my band played bass and my mate did drums and BGVs. My then guitar teacher played the piano and also composed the guitar solo (after two listens he recorded that in a single take). I then had to learn it and perform it on the day, as well as doing the lead vocal. In the end, we came second to a girl with an acoustic guitar and a song called ‘Suicide Letters’ (I told you it was a low bar). So we all retired to the pub afterwards to drink our £15 prize money – life changing stuff eh. We used to perform this song in my band, Jetlag, (guitar, bass and drums) and once, the drummer got so bored, he put his sticks down and went to the bar (don’t you just love drummers), I don’t think anyone noticed. As to the track itself, I started by re-creating the piano arrangement in Notion from the original dots (that’s the track with the higher register notes). I then made a chord track from that arrangement (programmed in PRV and played using a Soft Rhodes), which I then used in EzKeys - using one of the contemporary soul MIDI pack arrangements as a session pianist – this added a lower register to the piano to fill out the sound. The VSTs I used are Pianoteq 7 Stage and Synthogy Ivory II. I used EzBass to create the bass track and EzDrummer for a drum track. The ‘acoustic’ guitar is actually my T5z, patched through a CLA guitars plugin and the guitar solo - which is the same guitar - is patched through one of the TH-U All packs with a touch of added delay. I’m not sure this was ever in my vocal range over 40 years ago and it’s even less so now, but I really didn’t want to change the key. I did my best with the vocals and BGVs (give me some credit for attempting a four part harmony on the outro). The lyrics are very simple, but they have an innocent naivety I rather like – the World seemed a far simpler place back then. Any improvements in my mixing are entirely down to the efforts of Mike @Creative Sauce (do check out his channel on YouTube if you haven’t already). This is the most complicated project I have ever attempted - with more tracks, buses and sends than enough. My projects used to be ever so simple (crap, but simple 😉 ) until I started watching Mike's videos and I now have delusions of capability 😂 - any production howlers are entirely mine, despite Mike's best efforts to make me better at my craft. Anyway - here it is – the first track off the Lost Attic Tapes: Breaking Away, circa 1980. I hope you enjoy it, nits and crits welcome as always. I had a lot of fun re-creating this – a real nostalgia trip. Andy

  30. The only real way Cakewalk could implement true score editing is if they bought an existing package like Presonus did with Notion - starting from scratch would require dedicated staff 😉. For MIDI editing in notation, things could be a lot worse than Staff View. Regarding a chord track, I've come to the conclusion thatthe addition of scale capabilities are necessary to properly handle melodies and bass parts.

  31. Unfortunately, on the Pluginguru website you can only download an old version (v1.41) DEMO which, in my personal opinion, is very limited in terms of not being able to load the previously named free presets and it already demoralizes me to buy it, Pluginguru should at least update the DEMO. On the other hand it is nothing more than a tool to organize instr and fx plugins which could also be achieved with any DAW and a lot of patience...

  40. You get everything stated. Read the descriptions carefully, as there are sometimes trial subscriptions included in the bundle. Your downloads and licenses are stored in your Humble account for future access. You can pick and choose the items in your bundle that you wish to activate and install. Humble Bundle is legit. I have been buying from them for several years, no regrets!!!

  41. Waves plugins you buy today and register before the deadline will always work. They are not leaving anything behind. They are changing their Authorization system. Not leaving plugins purchased before March 26 behind. I just hope it ain't going to Pace bs. Then I am outta here. Other than that I will always use my Waves plugins. They are just good stuff. Some of the best bang for buck around.
