  2. It's amazing when you look through change logs what proportion of time is spent supporting Apple issues. It makes you wonder what kind of cool stuff the developers could come up with if they didn't have to waste that time supporting Apple's changes.

  3. VG Jazz Clarinet - 45% off intro offer. $22.00 (Reg. $39.99) Until April 12, 2021. NI Kontakt Sound Library, WAV, NKI https://vgtrumpet.com/product/vg-jazz-clarinet/ Actually I don't know anything about VG, although I've just seen some good reviews of their trumpet and other stuff. The demos look and sound convincing

  7. Of the biggies, only Waves stick out as far as not being cool. It's about single-seat licenses and grubbing for WUP fees. I'm not scared about my v.11 plug-ins being "unsupported," if they work fine now it's likely they'll work fine in the future. Charging more than $10 to transfer a license is unnecessary, so Plugin Alliance takes a hit for their $20 fee. Otherwise, hey, good discounts, 3-seat license, what's not to like? I'll chime in with Meldaproduction love, the one hitch is that there's no discounted upgrade path for individual plug-ins in a bundle. For instance, if I wanted to upgrade my Essentials Bundle MSpectralDynamicsle to the full version, I have to pay whatever the going rate is for it. Whatever, I've benefited greatly from their generous upgrade policies and referral credits to get some really great top quality plug-ins.

  8. Excellent advice from John regarding the Maximizer or similar harmonic enhancement tools on old recordings. Something I neglected to mention earlier, since you're trying to give the old mix a better overall tonal balance, reference it against a better-mixed song while using a spectrum analyzer on each. My choice for spectrum analyzers is Meldaproduction MAnalyzer (nice because there's fully functional free version), and Voxengo SPAN is another popular choice. I prefer MAnalyzer because it shows numeric readouts on the peaks, which would help with that midrange lump. MAnalyzer also comes with presets that allow you to overlay analyses of tracks in a variety of genres for comparison. And your analysis can be copied and pasted into MEqualizer for direct reference while you're working on it.

  9. One tool that has worked for me is BBE sonic maximizer It brings out harmonic overtones sort of like tube overdrive does. I’ve never used it on a finished song but it certainly works with badly recorded drums or bass to get that mud out. I read once were someone took a dull recording and copied it to 6 tracks and then processed each to highlight parts and then used these to remix. I think it might work but would be careful about phase issues

  10. I've done a bit of polishing of challenging material like phone captures and old cassette recordings. I actually find it great fun to see how good I can make a poor recording sound. The tools I turn loose on them are EQ (using a plug-in like MEqualizer that can do mid, side, left and right independently is the best) stereo image processing (Voxengo MSED, and JST Sidewidener or Polyverse Wider), and transient shaping (I've used fairly simple ones in the past, but I acquired WA Production Imprint multiband transient shaper several months back and am looking forward to deploying it on one of these someday). The transient shaper can bring up or push down various elements in a mix by emphasizing attack and decay.

  12. I just have bought Amplifikation Caliburn. Actually I didn't need any more amp simulations, but I couldn't resist! 😄 Nowadays I use a real amplifier with a D.I. for recording to avoid the irritating delay. But the Kuassa amp simulations are really first class! Most other (more well-known) amp sims are not nearly as remindful of the real thing like theirs! Caliburn's JCM800 emulation (2nd amp type) is absolutely superb. Many years I owned a JCM800 guitar amp combo and I loved it. It's a pity I had to exchange it with a bass amplifier (I had to replace our bassist at that time). By the way for the bass I bought a JCM800 Bass Series with a JCM 1984 Bass Cabinet, but regrettably I had sold them, too.

  14. The opening is strong, when the vocals come in though they seem to be just behind the pocket. Not sure if that's intentional. Vocal seems far away, but that could also be a style thing. Mix seems balanced to me, sounds like good musicianship all around. Lots of attractive parts to this song. If it's done, it's done and that's great! It's so hard to get to this point. If you're looking to work at the production some more then I'd suggest more effort spent on the cadence of the lyrics as at times I feel like the words lose their musicality and just become poetry, nothing wrong with that, but if you don't want the listener to lose contact with the melody, the cadence is key. Then, I think perhaps the timing would just find its proper abode. That's my thought. FWIW. Awesome work getting to this point!

  15. Rigid Audio is running rotating sales for April. New deal every 72 hours. ALSO- the bundle prices are excellent, if you are new to Rigid Audio (Not possible on this forum ?) Use the code GIVEME10 for another 10% off at FastSpring. Note- It looks like the bundles ARE the current 72 hour special, which will rotate out in about 30 hours.

  19. I put my license on a USB stick and I can install on as many computers as I want. I can work on my PC and if I need to switch to my Mac I move the USB stick from the PC to the Mac. However unlikely it is, I can go to any studio in the world install all the Waves bundles I own and plug in my USB stick and I'm off and running. For me that is a close to multiple-seat licenses as I need to get without paying for it. I've always felt that I got my money's worth from WUP for all the new plugs I've gotten every year in Mercury. My only gripe is that new Abbey Road plugs come at cost (usually quite small though). I'm perfectly happy to pay my WUP.

  21. The email would come from Fastspring with download links from Fastspring. Try going to this link https://rigidaudio.onfastspring.com/account and enter the email address that you used for the purchase. If you don't get a reply, is there a chance of typo? I picked up a bundle last night and had no issues. Good luck!

  26. You can do a lot in CbB alone. Experimenting with multi -band compression and eq and channel tools can change a lot. There is a new trend to have single do it all plug-do all things possible. They work really good. The presets can be a good starting place and you can learn quickly by sort of reverse engineering them. I think some are a little over the top. There's a production techniques forum here, this is a good thread to add to it.

  27. I got Fuchs Train II... AND the Overdrive Supreme guitar amps. Didn't expect very much, but sure was positively surprised. Been playing with them all day, and I have to say you can get quite big and soulful sounds out of these, no matter what guitar you feed 'em with. All the PA plugins I have are awesome. They're quite expensive, but they are excellent, seemingly without exceptions.

  30. I finally picked up M-Tron Pro and the M300 library. If you're into Trons, this is a must have. As Fleer posted, it is the best -- and I own a lot of other Tron sample libraries and VSTs (yes, my name is Peter and I am a sample hoarder).

  35. Hi KurtS, thanks for listening to the song. I have to check the vocals and timing again, I haven't noticed anything so far. But that's how it is, the more you listen to the song, the more you get used to it. Also to inconsistencies. Therefore, this forum is good to learn what other ears notice. Thanks again.

  37. John, you have come far in the last few years with your vocals. A very short delay can "thicken" a voice without much effort, or just sing a double of the lead. However, I'm not sure you need it. This song is quite good, and the arrangement is sophisticated enough that it stands on its own. A+ effort!
