  1. Got a response back from PA, "it is not a problem if you want to take advantage of the voucher. Some Tantra owners received the Thorn voucher by mistake, please don't feel like you would be cheating us." So I guess they are good with it.

  2. I've had the flu for 2 weeks, so I've been limited to playing my Yamaha digital piano when I felt up to it. I got really frustrated that anything I recorded sounded radically different both sound-wise & expression-wise when using any of my usual piano sounds (MiniGrand, AddictiveKeys etc), so I took the plunge and sampled my piano. So here it is, all 88 note's sampled at 7 velocity levels: Kontakt: http://msmcleod.co.uk/sounds/GPiano.nki SFZ: http://msmcleod.co.uk/sounds/GPianoSFZ.zip SF2: http://msmcleod.co.uk/sounds/GPianoSF2.zip The SFZ/SF2 will need a release time of around 0.5 secs. Personally, I find this piano sound radically different from all the others. Hopefully some of you can find a use for it too.

  3. Excuse me Sir/Madam but I am a plugin slut, not a plugin whore. Minor distinction but one none the less. I respect your moral stand but disagree with your premise. Thorn is a fine synth but like many on this particular forum I already have a glut of soft synths. No disrespect to Dmitry or Thorn but the only way I'll purchase a synth at this time is if it's priced in the truly no-brainer region. So in this case PA/Dmitry have collected $19 from me that they would never have otherwise received. I have no idea why this 'situation' occurred - be it intentional, as KK suggested it might, or otherwise. But as it appears from comments posted on this thread it was not universally offered/distributed to Dmitry's user base. If nothing else it has generated attention to the PA/Dmitry relationship. One point that you don't take indignation over - - making people who've already purchased Thorn pay $19 just to obtain the rebranded PA version and perhaps be able to get future updates (assuming those don't require a fee). The amount is IMHO a bit steep, I'd not be thrilled if I fell in that camp.

  8. This might help someone fighting static and noise in audio. This is on my HP 8560p Elitebook laptop with i5/16GB ram/dual SSD drives. I've been fighting a situation where Cakewalk with audio tracks (several) would start off fine (noise free) but slowly start giving static/scratching noises during recording and playback. I might get 30 minutes before it started. I messed with just about everything possible. If you suggest something, I already tried it. I was sitting here and noticed the fan was running at full speed. I loaded a CPU temperature app and the temps were very high. Hmmm. I pulled the bottom cover off and the processor heat-sink and air channels were full of dust. Some compressed air later and the fan is either off or at slow speed all the time and the static/scratching is gone. I've gone 8 hours with no noise. I believe the processor was slowing down from the heat or in technical terms "going goofy." I know this might not be a typical problem for people but it's something to rule out if you are fighting the noise. And anyone that knows of a theme that matches or is similar to the original Cakewalk for Windows from the Twelve Tone era I'd love to try it. I don't like the dark themes. AWATS

  9. Bandlab seem to be a forward thinking company and I believe their App will draw in a lot more EDM, Hip Hop and R&B Music Producers to Cakewalk I know we have had various things like Dropzone - Cyclone - Beatscape over the years and there is also the Matrix view but I feel there is a gaping hole in CBB for musicians who build tracks around samples which should be addressed. Competing platforms have their own well thought out and intergrated samplers and have flourished and overtaken the DAW formerly known as Sonar because if it. It's an ideal opportunity to redress this. My starting point would be the Browser. It's already the default place to audition loops and one shot samples so why not put it on steroids ? Imagine undocking it and dropping it into the MultiDock to view the fully fledged sampler. This could incorporate all the best attributes of those old plugins as well as new features but much more seamlessly. No VSTi to instantiate, a fluid workflow as you move from browsing sounds to working with them. Looping , chopping, editing, mangling and making samples playable across the keyboard would all be possible within the expanded Super Browser. Once you're happy with how it sounds, drag across to the track view and drop your newly edited sample instrument into the project ready to perform within your track. This will now act as a standalone sampled instrument that can be refined within it's own instrument if needed. Quick easy worklow for modern producers - Let's make Cakewalk best in class for sample based musicians

  11. Back in the old forums there were statements made about the lack of videos made using Sonar suggesting its unpopularity. Well, there have been a plethora of quite recently uploaded video tutorials on YouTube using Cakewalk By BandLab. For any newbie coming into these forums asking questions, I think a sticky should be made of these videos which are very informative. Below are a few YouTube channels I've found. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwqZ0GPSfFgbc8gLCxaYngRGVvlaf57gI https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLSfPaEe4wG_TxprjqVLxh9yAH-zGhA8bH https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDkWv3OTMpOHb2hMjuNWBQWyuhhIF6bHj https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeySI9gLWqezjlplGQqTJyhrbvCvKdzTk

  12. I always hated dealing with the "Missing Samples" messages I would keep getting and browsing for the samples, every time I would load from certain libraries. Well, read the section on Batch Save, at the following link, to permanently fix this situation one time for each library this message comes up for: https://impactsoundworks.com/optimizing-kontakt-workflow-part-3/ I also just today learned about getting my 3rd-party sample libraries and instruments added to the Kontakt Libraries. For this, locate the Kontakt Factory Library, and click on the little arrow on Instruments, and then click on Open Containing Folder. You can add your 3rd-party Kontakt sample libraries to the folder structure here - I chose to create a new top-level folder called User Libs, at the same level as Band, Choir, Vintage, etc.... Then, I went through my 3rd-party libraries and chose the ones I frequently access, and copied/pasted them into my User Libs folder. A restart of Kontakt, OR doing a refresh in Kontakt, is needed, to be able to access the newly-added User Libs content. I LOVE learning kewl helpful stuff like the above, and hope some folks can make use of the above, as well. Bob Bone

  16. Interesting. I hadn't found that reference before when searching for this issue. So the way it stands with us now is this. In Sonar Platinum with Dithering turned on in the preferences all our projects load and play fine., (minus any new things added to CBb of course). In CBb with Dithering turned on in the preferences we get audio missing errors and corrupt audio region errors. In CBb with Dithering turned off in the preferences all our projects load and play fine. No errors. We still have not found out the reason for this but at least we have a workaround.

  17. This is one of my favorite libraries by far. Very helpful in working on orchestration if you are just getting into it. It's a lot easier to play something like this across your keyboard than to keep referring to a chart to remember what the standard range is for specific instruments. You just play on your keyboard and you hear how a string or brass or woodwind ensemble sounds. And the solo instruments and ensembles sound good enough to be in my template, and compare surprisingly well with some of my other libraries. Good sounds with lots of articulations. There are also some amazing multis that are very inspirational. Plus percussion and a choir. Well worth checking out

  20. Hiya Geoff, I'm not sure to be honest. I mean, it works for you, and it works for me, although so does leaving the offset at zero. In my opinion the manual is poor and the plugin is not intuitive. I just did a search on google for "sonar external insert instructions." The top item in the search was older documentation for X2:- https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?help=Mixing.32.html&language=3&product=SONAR X2 Which is pretty much the same as the latest SONAR User Guide. Third item in the search is an even older Cakewalk 8.3:- https://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/20090222/SONAR-8-3-External-Inserts-Enhancements-Tips I think that the important thing to take notice of is the part about "Testing the Delay Measurement" I followed these instructions:- Now this, to me, implies that we should only be using the "Offset" box for very small amounts of adjustment. When I tried the above, the initial delay applied did not totally cancel the sound, as expected with the phase inverted. Then when I tried adjusting the offset up or down the sound actually got louder and I ended up leaving it at zero. I think that this confirms that perhaps what we have been doing is in fact incorrect. It works because at the end of the day we are re-aligning stuff by other methods. What are you thoughts, Geoff? cheers, and thanks again, andy

  21. You might want to try cleaning out Windows temp files. Too many temp files or corrupted files left in the temp folder can cause issues like the one you describe. How to: First close all open programs and files. You don't need to shut down apps that run in the background. In practice I've never had an issue doing this procedure even with lots of stuff open but you'll get a better cleaning if you close the extra stuff. In Windows File Explorer open %temp% and it will take you to a folder similar to: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp Select all files in that folder, for example by hitting Ctrl-A, and click on Delete. When you see something similar to the screen below check the box "Do this for all current items" and click Skip. You can Google deleting Windows temp files if you need more info or just want a confirmation. If all this is new to you maybe have an experienced friend watch or help.

  22. I agree with most of what you are saying Someguy, regarding the vast majority of instruction videos are sort of long winded and most are never to the point. And ya, it's funny the audio is so bad, I just discovered I can use a lot of my hi end VST plug ins in the effect bin of Vegas Movie studio. But youtube seems to do something as the audio is perfect when I play the movies I make. I know all about how to take audio to the max. But once uploaded to b youtube the audio is always at a lower level and distorted. So I'm having to read up on this and it's a whole new ballgame. I'm almost tempted to purchase the Nugen mastering plug in. It has a setting for Youtube. As I make my tutorials I try to keep them at 4 minutes and pick a single topic. It's hard to do. I think I still prefer using screen shots. Then you can have the best of both worlds,, the picture and the text. But videos are easier to make and you do have the advantage of including the sound which is important sometimes when making a point.

  23. As I was saying, it was completely safe, that was the point of my whole post! I WANT to use Sonar to control the mixes for everyone, with the plugins I know and love, with the routing that's head and shoulders above any mixer that comes with your audio interface. Nobody was listening to tracks from the computer. It means when we listen back to the take, it's exactly the same as what we heard when we were recording. Did did hours and hours of recording at 64 samples at it NEVER ever even popped once. Once you get used to that it's nearly impossible to go back to having to deal with yet another separate mixer application. R

  24. I've been waiting for a killer sale on this particular plugin for ages, possibly years. But since I've been waiting I've picked up FabFilter Pro-Q 3, so... do I have a valid justification for buying it? Arguing with my GAS over this... Have you totally mastered Pro-Q 3? um, no Are there EQ plugins in your collection that have yet to be explored? ...maybe Is this bright & shiny? YES! If finances were different I'd jump on this anyway. But then if wishes were fishes I'd be having Sushi for dinner tonight... BTW you can stack coupons and use the discount code in the email for Brainworx bx_digital V3 and if you have one, your February discount code for an even cheaper price.

  32. Glad you found my post interesting! I forgot how first time posts are often frowned upon due to the superiority of the folks with 50k posts expressing nothing at all. And regarding the glitch, the email sent by PA clearly states, and I quote - “As an existing owner of Thorn V1 you can get the new Plugin Alliance V1.2 release for just $19!” Seems pretty clear to me. Glitch indeed. Cheers

  34. Try setting the driver mode to ASIO as the audio driver in preferences >Audio>Playback and Recording. Then go to preferences>Audio>Driver Settings and adjust the buffer size by clicking the ASIO Panel, you should be able to get a minimum of 200-500samples round trip latency atleast.

  39. I made a bunch of tutorials as I have 3 people I'm teaching how to use the program and thought some screen capture videos would be useful. They are working very well for my students. They said they are making good progress and nobody had to phone me so far. I shared them on my web site ( see signature) and Utube but seems I've only had 3 or 4 people watch them so I might as well remove them. It's hard to make effective videos that get to the point as it's easy to go off on a side tangent with the 3 or 4 ways there is to do everything. I found the videos posted in the OP contained to much personal workflow, and I could barely understand him. The older Sonar videos are well done and are more or less still relevant. What I found very cool was when I opened Vegas Movie studio for the first time I followed the tutorials which used the actual GUI window and animated how you did things. It gave me a whole tour of all the menus and tabs, I was up and running in no time at all and that software is at least as complicated as Cakewalk.

  41. Honestly, time is a precious resource. I'd much rather they distribute a PDF user guide so that we can search and view while on the go. I'd much rather read the manual while I'm riding shotgun or between sessions at the training center than waste hours of my time watching YouTube videos. Not having a PDF manual, at least the old Sonar Platinum manual with the obvious caveat that some things may differ, is awful. I have time in between activities while out and about, but I'm definitely not going to sit in front of YouTube and waste that much time. I want an actual PDF user guide.

  42. Thanks guys. I too make a habit of saving the track and bus ProChannel settings so I can restore as needed. I've experienced the non-saved-settings issue but never the gross EQ anomaly on many channels at once. Luckily, it hasn't happened since and i do have the important tracks and buses saved as PC presets. Ciao, Bill
