  1. I understand that users want to get definitive answers on final pricing and purchase options, but please don’t read too much into this,. As mentioned earlier, BSP was the quickest way we could make it the software available to users while all the other moving parts are sorted out for an official release. The wait to final releasse was completely expected to be a few months. BandLab is a big company and Its not just engineering - management, marketing, back end, social, support, all of those have to be coordinated to make it happen. Our team would obviously like this to happen sooner than later and we’ve done our part to communicate whats needed within the org. If you need it now go ahead and use BSP, or wait for the final announcements on purchase options. Its pretty simple.

  4. tbf, we all have way more tools than we need, and the newest stuff seems to be all "ai"/you don't need to understand what's happening to get an effect/big hit song, basically marketing bs, so if we don't like the new offerings let's just stop buying stuff, i certainly have 🤷‍♀️

  5. Well, the sale price for annual membership is a fair price and it comes with Sonar and the membership extras (which I do not care about). $105 for a year - with this discount that expires April 6 - two days from now. Will the price several months from now be less? No one knows. I really appreciate Noel's recent response. He is a class act. And frankly between him and other Bakers, the real extra perk is the fantastic customer support on issues and the like. I know I have made requests privately and they have gone out of their way to help me. I imagine there are many other great things they do that do not get publicized.

  6. Example for me two that are very important Smart tool. And tempo map created by a simple drag and drop to timeline. Actually the whole of Sonars PRV I think is one of the best. I didn’t see one that had the built in track selection inspector which also allows layers as well as soloing muting of midi and audio tracks. I think the people who find no difference are just people who don’t use all of Cakewalk/ Sonars features. Fine. The smart tool alone is a deal breaker for me. It totally depends on your personal workflow. Some of the DAWs I tried you can see would be way better than Sonar if you are using only loops as example. Some DAWS have much better tools for manipulation and randomly changing stuff around for creative composing. As a musician who can play a wide variety of instruments and sing I need totally different tools than people who are just experimenting with sound. Modern DAW’s are mostly aimed at non musicians. Cakewalk/ Sonar has just about everything to record and more importantly edit midi and audio. This is what I found lacking in most of the others.

  15. To me, it's very flexible UI, where you can disable all unnecessary bologna. The only DAW (besides mobiles like Cubasis and N-Track) that truly works with touchscreens. Extremely smooth workflow with take lanes /take lane clips when tracking. Not invasive> pushing paid content (I hope it stays that way). Very natural track viewing management: resizing vertically, horizontally independent of others. Bitwig and Mixcraft which are closest in that respect in my view are still miles away. Bunch of others, these are just from the top. P.S. Ohh yes, one of the best musical community forums. If I get stuck, I usually get help within hours if not less (Thank you!!!)

  16. In years past I just habitually bought updates to all my DAW software. If it's new it must be better right? SO was no exception, and I would do that not even knowing what was new. I must already have like 10 subscriptions to various services and I'm finding I don't use most of it. We really don't 'own' software in the sense of true ownership. Gone are the days of having that disk there on my desk that felt to me as if I would have it for life, and yes we still have those disks, but many generations of it have followed it. We sort of gave up that "it's mine for life" idea before subscriptions. It was even fun to buy the new stuff. Not a chore. It's fun to build a new computer too, so it all kind of goes together and then you think. I'm going to kill it now lol. I think it's a part of the hobby for those with GAS. But for me, I'm beginning to watch things more closely and sure I'll update still but I am more reluctant to do so if the new features really aren't something I see myself using, and which would not be the same for everyone. I might wait two or three generations of a product now. TBH most of us are loaded to the gills for pretty much anything with what we already have, so I think there is a "shiney new thing" factor in all of this or we would just wait until the next computer OS or major update to consider it. And sure they could miff us all by making the old version unfunctional after two years. That's really where I see subscriptions eventually ending up. It's fun if I WANT it, but if you tell me I am forced because if I don't you'll take my goodies away that's different. We aren't there yet, but getting close. I guess some of that GAS has worn off. I'm like meh. Sorry, but my tude is changing probably because A. New stuff doesn't ever make better music and B. The novelty is wearing off. When has anyone ever said "Oh no, I am still on version 5, I can't make music"? So there it is, what there is of it. Call me passive to the max. There is surely some consideration as to the learning curve coming into or out of anything else. None of that has ever held me back or I wouldn't have like five DAWS. In fact I encourage at least trying demo versions of others to see what fits you. I found one I like, so it's going to take a lot for me to buy an update so I can stare at it and say I updated. Or at my funeral noone is going to say, " Well at least he upgraded to 6.6" If we do it, it's for us, and if you enjoy it I will be the last to try and steal that or suggest anything negative. It really a way of rewarding the devs for their hard work and continuing to help the industry. That's how I sorta seen it. I say that tongue in cheek because I don't think any of us will get thank you letters. Probably not a good reason to buy anything you use on a regular basis. You have to like using it. Maybe similar to my garage which is littered with stuff I thought I might use lol.

  18. Wavesequencer Hyperion Releases 1.51 released 04/3/24 New features: Notes input node: Polyphonic portamento (Glide knob) with 3 modes (pull down list selector) - Default - last voice frequency: Bend from the voice frequency that the selected voice in the voice pool was previously set to. Closest voice frequency: Bend from the voice frequency in the voice pool that was set closest to the current note frequency. Furthest voice frequency: Bend from the voice frequency in the voice pool that was set furthest from the current note frequency. (Any existing patches prior to v1.51 where multiple voices are enabled and the glide parameter is greater than 0 will have that parameter value reset to 0 when loaded to prevent un-expected results.) New pre-mapped E output pin for expression pedal MIDI cc output. P channel pressure pin is now merged with the A (polyphonic) aftertouch pin - in general all external controllers will either transmit channel pressure or polyphonic aftertouch - in the unlikely case they are received at the same time the input data will be mixed together. This makes patching easier and allows all existing factory patches to take advantage of polyphonic aftertouch controllers without re-patching. The default mode of the notes input node is that if the aftertouch pin is not connected to a target, then the modwheel output will also include the aftertouch value - this can be turned off with the 'AT to MW' checkbox. (Existing patches with connections to the original P pin will have those connections automatically connected to the A pin.) New control knobs for: aftertouch pin smoothing rate control, Expression pedal output pin rate control, Y-axis pin rate control. This allows to smooth out those controls to avoid jerky input data or with extreme settings to allow very smooth transitions. This does not affect data received with the MIDI CC input node or any of the Macro control knobs. New filter buttons on the layer controls panel: Layer settings lock control prevents the layer settings (zones, transpose, volume and also the arp settings) from getting wiped when loading in a new single layer patch. This is very helpful when auditioning different sounds for a combi with split and different layer volumes or arp settings that you want to maintain when trying different potential sounds. The other toggle buttons are filter controls to block or enable pitch bend, modwheel, aftertouch, expression pedal, or sustain pedal output.. really handy for multi-layer combi patches where maybe you only want one layer to respond to the modwheel etc. The filter controls as saved as part of patch data. Bug fixes: Some tooltip bubbles were getting clipped at the edge of the plugin window - this is now fixed. Theia Releases 1.08 released 04/3/24 This update adds support for Hyperion core synth processing engine features added in the latest release of Hyperion to maintain future patch compatibility. Polyphonic portamento is now available via the Glide parameter - previously this was limited to 1 voice mode.

  21. I don't give two hoots about DAW addons or DAW specific tools. As y'all know I have a plethora of 3rd party tools to choose from. The DAW needs to work the way I need it and as of now Studio One 6.6 perpetual does what exactly I need. I will continue to pay for updates to Studio One Pro perpetual just as I will continue to pay for updates to all the perpetual licensed DAWs I have (except Samplitude 🙂 ).

  33. ChilloutEngine turns your chord progressions into relaxed keys, smooth basslines, memorable hooks, and lovely arpeggios. If you don't have your own chord progression yet, ChilloutEngine can generate one for you. Different progression algorithms make it easy to start a new song from scratch. The plug-in is suitable for all Chillout styles, but it is a good fit for other genres as well. ChilloutEngine is available as a Standard version and as a Pro version. The Pro version contains a MIDI mass-exporter that makes it easy to create hundreds of files within seconds. When you buy the Standard version, you can use all generated phrases and melodies in your own productions (both commercial and free releases). But if you want to sell the generated MIDI packs to other musicians, you need to purchase a Pro license. In all other aspects, the two versions are the same. Price: $52 / €49 (Standard version) and $416 / €392 (Pro version). The update is free for all customers (simply download the demo and install it over your old version). Introductory deal: Use the code "CE2Std" at the checkout page to get 20% off on ChilloutEngine Standard. Use the code "CE2Pro" to get 50% off on ChilloutEngine Pro. The offer is valid until 2024/05/26. (Please remember: If you already own ChilloutEngine 1, this is a free update.) Download: https://feelyoursound.com/chilloutengine

  34. This is a nice update. Hauke Menges is a terrific dev and a heck of a nice guy. Buy once. Get the license code. Use on as many computers as you own. At the same time! Updates free for life, including new major versions like this one. I have most of his products: Sundog Song Studio, Chord Potion, Trance Engine, House Engine and Chillout Engine. BTW, his company name is "Feel Your Sound" as in the URL for his website, not "Hauptwerk" (those are some EXPENSIVE virtual instruments).

  38. SonoBus. A free app that can be used as a plug in on your Master Bus. It is also a stand alone PC, OS and Android app. I use it to send Cakewalk playback to my cell phone as a proofing tool. It uses your network. So I could play my latest mix for you anywhere in the world. Sound quality is subject to settings and bandwidth. So in my home using CAT5 networking, computer to computer, I can have higher sound quality.

  39. I'd be shocked if they haven't hit the number already - but haven't seen anything and agree they likely won't rush to change the wording or to send it out - as that will certainly get posted in a variety of places the extra deal is off. I grabbed it in less than a hour of the OP with hopes to get Galaxy as that is likely of more appeal to me than this one knob, 3 flavor saturator is.

  40. Well done, well written guys . . . now that's a chorus ! Lynn really jumps boldly into the spotlight for that guitar solo, really excellent I thought. In my studio, on my Tannoy Active monitors, the mix sounds great . . . I like the drums and bass right where they are in this latest mix. Also thought the vocals, and particularly the lyrics are quite engaging, rounding out a simply great tune to listen to !

  41. I have converted possibly over 100 bass tracks to midi so here’s what to expect. Yes it will be an octave lower for most VSTi like SI and AmpleP Bass. Yes the duration will be overlapping which can cause the following note to be cut off. Yes there will be missed or additional notes. Tips: Record the bass loud. Don’t worry if you go red as it won’t matter in the end. It is best to be max at -4db. If it isn’t then use Normalization to -4 db. Use only 1 PU that is the cleanest sound. Muddy sound won’t give good results but a brighter clean sound will. Those false notes are caused by unwanted notes being played or harmonics. So focus on clean and simple. It’s easy enough to add the fancy stuff later. Yes no matter what editing will be required. My routine is drag the bass audio track to AmpleP bass track holding Shift to keep it in time. Use melodic setting. Select all - Transpose 12 then pull duration back about 1/32 or until notes don’t overlap. Still selecting all, grab the lowest velocity tail and drag it to max. Let go. Now drag them all back to around 106. That’s a sweet spot for AmpleP bass which is definitely the best I’ve ever had. Now start playback and edit duration and move notes around etc. I can do this pretty fast now. I might also open the drum track and then open the bass lane while holding CTRL so I can see the kick drum placement ghost in the background.

  42. Seems like user feedback would be a metric they would or should look at. I'm sure I'll get on board myself as the bugs are ironed out and the pricing is set. (Unless it's something crazy, which I doubt) Hearing opinions of people either happy or unhappy with the rumour mill can contain some useful info. I've been on these forums since the 90's and have seen a lot worse than the complaints here. BTW I've seen some blowup from Studio 1 users about their marketing and sub plans. All of this potential pricing and subscription upset is not happening in a vacuum

  43. This is a good idea. Warning, incoming jibber-jabber: The Image Linesque FUD used to come up on the MeldaProduction forum years ago. "Lifetime updates but what if the company fails? They won't be taking in any new money! What if the guy this business is built around gets hit by a bus?" My response was always "then you get to use the plug-ins you paid for until they no longer work." Are you happy with what you have? Does it work correctly? Fine, then. Their policy is nice, but if you would feel cheated if the company ended tomorrow, don't spend your money. That's a substantial pile of software that PreSonus have shifted over to sub-only. I'll devil's advocate here for a second, but don't worry, I do think it's a bad move. On the one hand, one could say that at least the people who already had a 6.5 Pro license will be able to use those add-ons until the wheels fall off SPlat-style. Nobody has had anything revoked from them, if I get it correctly. Who loses is perp license fans who maybe were still saving for a Pro license, maybe Artist users who were planning to upgrade. They've been locked out of buying audio software from their favorite audio software company. That is a bummer to be sure, and it creates FUD about possibly future core features of SO getting walled off behind a sub model. Still, I don't see anyone being cheated here. Disappointed and disturbed, sure. Why I think it's a silly move on PreSonus part is first, the FUD. Favorite audio software company can't learn from all the poop that was flung at Waves for trying to sell plug-ins sub only? That signals market blindness on their part. Second, WTF, Fender? After 70 years of selling guitars and amplifiers, the don't understand the value of upselling accessories? These now sub-only programs and plug-ins are accessories, and now, while they may very well keep most of their perp license userbase, nobody who buys a perp license for Pro in the future will be able to buy these other products that they make. Seems silly to jettison potential sales that way. Of course that's the sad thing when dealing with a publicly-traded company and why I swore 25 years ago I'd never work for one again: Fender are not in business to trade music gear and software for money. They are in business to make the price of their stock go higher. That is all that matters. If Fender looks better to the Wall Street analysts because a certain percentage of their revenue is from subscriptions, then they'll try to force as many people into subscriptions as they can. And if they think that the best way to herd them in is making some products sub-only, then public opinion be damned. Wall Street analysts don't read KVR. They don't care if you pi55 off half your userbase. They care about how much you're spending on certain things, how many employees you have vs. revenues (and they're not great at knowing what industries require more or fewer people), statistics like that. Company reputation doesn't matter. If they thought that people's regard mattered, they wouldn't be stock market analysts. Fortunately, there are alternative products to everything on that list, including the DAW itself. Me, when I look at the psychology of what seems to work for subscriptions, what I see working historically is entertainment content, services, and consumables. Not so much for things that are "durable." Content is fine, I'm okay with my $15 a month Netflix, I get that much entertainment out of it, it's worth the price of a burger and fries. Consumables and services....yeah, there are deals to be had on razor blades, auto maintenance and the like. I don't have room for a gym in my home, so if I wanted to work out on machines, gym membership. And if you're a business, the lease model may be desirable, not having to deal with buying a building full of new furniture when the old stuff gets too banged up, just have the accountants send the payments off, makes it easier to see how much you're actually spending per year. But for individuals, I think we (or at least a large percentage of us) see software as more like "durable" goods. We want to choose just what we buy individually (I like this company's compressor, I like that company's reverb, etc.), we fear lapses in our ability to pay the subscription, and we want to be able to take a break from using it without having it nagging at us that we're not using it enough to justify $20 a month. People don't like feeling forced or coerced and we really don't like having things taken away from us. I can see where PreSonus' move feels like all of those things to loyal users. Also, it violates one of my principles, which is, to get people on board with one of two alternatives, do it by making the alternative you want them to choose better, not by making the other one worse. PreSonus are trying to do it by making the perp license worse. How should companies do it instead? Have subscriptions that grant you a discount over the perp license over a year's time, along with exclusive premium services and/or content. Don't make entire pieces of software otherwise unavailable. Loop libraries, presets, soundware, distribution, premium support are all great subscription perks. And never, ever block off something that used to come with a perp license.

  44. Consumer prices and values aside, I think this is also the biggest problem. In the YT comments the CS rep keeps touting how perpetual hasn't gone anywhere. Yet, they did remove perpetual licence for addons/plugins. They deserve all the manure being flung at them for that.
