  1. We just launched a new free course platform on our website — along with a brand new 6-hour mastering course. https://courses.mastering.com/ You can also find ALL replays from past Fix-The-Mix events here under "Event Replays". Even paid VIP events. Everything is there. We don't hold anything back in our free material. A 6-hour mastering course will never be as in-depth as the mastering module inside The Reverse Engineer, which takes most people several months to complete... But we aren't holding any secrets back. We do our best to deliver as much value as possible in these free courses within the time available. So, I feel confident that you're going to walk away with a whole new level of understanding — and notice an improvement in the quality of your work. We now have free courses on mastering, EQ, compression, reverb, along with all the FTM/VIP replays... and this is just the start. Go to this link to check it out: https://courses.mastering.com/ You can also get there any time by going to Mastering.com then clicking Free Courses in the menu. Enjoy!

  5. Be aware that you can delete the dead space inside Melodyne (along with any unwanted noises). I used to clean up the clips before applying Melodyne, but nowadays I find it redundant, as all editing can be done within Melodyne. My workflow for vocals is basically: record (using comp) - create the master comp track - duplicate this composite track (for safety reasons) - apply melodyne to the whole track - edit, edit, edit.... - render the edited track. But this is a workflow that suits my needs. I'm sure everyone develop a prefered workflow that serves them well. For complex recordings, you can even apply melodyne to assorted clips inside the comp track to adjust timing, etc, before commiting to a master track.

  6. Price isn't that surprising given the market. Pretty standard pricing for a made in the USA hand wired amp that has a tube driven tremolo and reverb with built in power scaling They certainly could have done an overseas job here, but when you build amps in CA the price tends to be top of the market.

  12. https://www.musicradar.com/news/korg-microkorg-2 microKorg 2 will be released in June of this year. We'll be checking out the synth at NAMM next week the most noticeable upgrade is the synth's 2.8-inch colour display, which offers advanced control of the synth's parameters alongside animated effects and an oscilloscope view that visualizes your patches. Like its predecessor, microKorg 2 is built around a virtual analogue synth engine. The synth's polyphonic architecture can handle up to eight voices, and sounds can be layered in Dual mode to create multi-timbral patches. The synth comes with 512 presets categorized into eight banks labelled by genre, and custom sounds can be saved in its 64-slot patch memory.

  16. That was a very interesting video. I watched it as soon as it was posted. If it's all true it explains a lot of things. The musical middle class has been eliminated. You've got people scrabbling around trying to get gigs, but in my town most of the venues have closed down. The concept of bands seems pretty much dead and replaced by various solo artists. Those that do rise to the top are doing big arena tours and many of those have just become their own tribute bands. Madonna is coming to Toronto this year . The cheapest seat at the venue is $200 and they range up to $7,500 for the best seats. Taylor Swift is another one. She actually affects the economy of towns she plays in. For example, she's coming to Vancouver this year. There's a hotel close to the venue that usually charges around $150 a night for the basic budget room. To get a room when she's in town they're charging $3,500 a night. I can remember being able to see the biggest acts, buy a T-shirt and have dinner for $100 and have change in my pocket.

  17. I'm sure you have plenty of feedback that $169 is a tough pill to swallow for many of us that just fiddle around with opening some VSTs with low latency outside a DAW I'm glad I got v3 and v4 at a heavy discount, but personally wouldn't pay any more for it due to the value I personally get out of the product. Thankfully TONEX now has a pedal form (in addition to the ITB) and for me this dramatically decreases the need for a real time VST loader.

  18. https://www.korg.com/in/products/synthesizers/grandstage_x/ The interface on the Grandstage X has been designed with live players in mind, and promises to be very intuitive. You can layer and split at the touch of a button, and there are dedicated level controls for each part. The keyboard has Korg’s RH3 weighted hammer action, and we’re intrigued by the key-touch slider, which promises “instant control over volume and timbre changes with each keystroke”. There are Nutube-powered analogue-style effects, an EQ and multiple delays and reverbs. The Grandstage X also has a slight arranger keyboard vibe with the inclusion of a rhythm and chord progression function, which creates a backing track that’s said to complement your playing. There’s no shortage of competition in the stage piano market, but with its distinctive look and (hopefully) high-quality sounds, the Grandstage X could definitely be a contender. There’s no word on a price yet, but you can expect it to arrive in June.

  19. The link to the download was provided a few posts earlier. Even without that, I was just now able to get there doing a google search for "presonus studio one demo", so it can easily be found. You definitely do not have to agree to a monthly payment to get at the download. You do have to set up an account with Presonus, because they issue a serial number for the demo, which would become your serial number for the purchased product if you subsequently decide to do that. And you can definitely purchase a permanent license (no subscription) if you so choose. I know all of the above to be true because I have recently done it, as I'm sure a number of others have as well.

  27. That’s always my solution. Hundreds of free or cheap plugins out there. But sometimes the cheap ones can also cause grief. Example I only own Airs collection because it was cheap . I was fighting a battle with Air but my battle wasn’t exactly Air it was that they chose iLok as an authorization server. ILok just cost me 3 days of headaches. They finally fixed it but it was not very straight forward process. So that’s the last money anything that says ILok required will see from me. Not worth it.

  28. I downloaded the trial version and it looks very interesting out of the box. My use case would be for live-streaming and demo voiceovers, so one concern I had was overall latency which I am still working on figuring out how much, if any it adds to the processing chain. The noise reduction does seem to work very transparently without creating lots of odd artifacts which I thought was impressive. More testing to come. It was also Interesting to see the $29 price tag….hmmmmm ;^) Joyfully, Simeon

  32. https://www.presonus.com/en/new-eris-family/eris-pro/ PreSonus Eris Pro 4 point-source coaxial studio monitor compact immersive Dolby Atmos PreSonus refreshed their Eris studio monitor line-up in September 2023, introducing an array of new and updated models that included the Eris Pro, a coaxial design available with 6.5 or 8-inch drivers (along with a 10-inch subwoofer). Now, they’ve announced the launch of another model, the Eris Pro 4, which offers a more compact version of the design that’s well-suited to applications such as immersive mixing rooms. As its name suggests, the latest addition to the range is loaded with a 4.5-inch coaxial driver that incorporates a 1-inch silk-dome tweeter. It promises to deliver a detailed transient response, with a natural sound that helps to combat listening fatigue. The single point-source design also helps to ensure accurate phase alignment between the drivers, delivering a wide ‘sweet spot’ and maintaining a symmetrical dispersion pattern — factors that are always desirable, of course, but become even more crucial when configuring accurate multi-speaker immersive setups.

  33. I guess they ran into the same concerns that we did. But just to be clear, we don't charge a lot "more" ---- we charge the difference between what people actual paid. For example, if someone bought GP4.5 from PA at full price, then there is NO charge to get the latest version directly from Deskew even though it was a significant upgrade. If they paid $99 for it at PA, then they get a $99 discount for the cross-grade, etc. It's not that we charge a lot more, it's that they were charging too little! We are very appreciative that so many PA users did recognize the value inherent in GP and moved over.

  39. Funny. I used to have that synth bought it for $10 at a garage sale. Sold it for $25 a few year ago. I didn’t know there was a VST for the DW. I’ll have grab that. I have the Fury 800 VST which seems to be a good emulation of the Korg Poly 800 which was my first synth 1884? I think I paid $1,200 for it and it died long time ago. So I was pretty happy to get it back for free. To answer your question I’ve never figured out how to set up sys exec messages. Seems pretty advanced stuff. But I’m pretty sure if if works in Reaper it should work with Cakewalk. We have a few forum members who know this stuff better than me for sure. The question is? if the VST instrument sounds the same why not just use that?

  41. Hey Gregy, just an FYI, I figured out what was going on on my end here. You have to put the keyboard in DAWRec mode in it's settings for it to track out properly in cakewalk. You lose Arpeggio functionality, but it lets you hear only the track selected when highlighting different tracks as intended.

  44. After you've added your custom color to the first box in "Custom Color" via clicking the "Add to Custom Colors" button, press the Tabulator key on your keyboard twice. The first press will put the focus to the "Basic Color" palette, showing a black quadrat around one of the color boxes; the next press will shift that quadrat to the "Custom Color" palette. Now use the arrow keys on your keyboard to put the focus/quadrat to a different box where you want the next color added.
